Quincy Homere, one of the two men convicted in the murder of Chinx, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison. After sentencing, Homere released a statement to the court.

“I’d like to express my condolences to the family and anyone else that was affected by what happened here,” Homere said. “I don’t believe there’s words that can express the way I feel about what transpired here.”

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz also shared a statement:

“Quincy Homere was sentenced today to 23 years in prison for killing Lionel Pickens Jr., a successful rapper, husband and father who was mercilessly gunned down in 2015. Homere fired numerous rounds into Pickens’ car while he was stopped at a red light in Briarwood and then fled, leaving the young man for dead. Nothing can undo what happened, but I hope today’s sentence brings some solace to Pickens’ loved ones as they continue to grieve.”

According to Billboard, Homere, 32, pleaded guilty in a New York City courtroom on Monday (July 15) to first-degree manslaughter.

Chinx’s widow, Janelli Caceres, told Fox 5 NY‘s Lisa Evers that she is grateful to the NYPD, the Queens DA, friends, and fans for keeping his memory and music legacy alive.

Homere and another suspect, Jamar Hill, were arrested and charged in 2017 with second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

According to New York Police Lieutenant Richard Rudolph, the pair allegedly “hunted down Chinx like an animal”  over a dispute that arose. At the same time, the rapper and Homere were both incarcerated at Riker’s Island in 2009.

In May 2015, the “Like This” rapper Chinx was tragically killed in his hometown of Queens, New York. Nearly three years following his death, local authorities formally made two arrests in the matter. Now, an official sentence has been handed out.

Yesterday (August 12), Fox 5 reported, that one man received a 23-year sentence in connection with the murder of Chinx (real name Lionel Pickens).

The alleged killer, Quincy Homere, will serve out the next two decades in a New York State prison after pledging guilty to the charges posed against him.

While addressing the court, Pickens’ widow, Janelli Caceres, relived the tragic moment. “I was told I had two minutes to say goodbye, holding his mother’s hand, watching his lifeless body praying and crying for him to wake up,” she said. “A mother has to bury her son. At the age of 28 I had become a widow. My children, who were 15, 11 and 4, are now without a dad.”

Following Chinx’s death, his past collaborators and friends Max B and French Montana expressed their condolences.

The Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz also shared a statement regarding Homere’s sentencing. Read Katz’ remarks below.

Sadly, the case is far from over. Homere’s co-defendant Jamar Hill hasn’t stood trial just yet, as he is currently incarcerated for an unrelated charge.

Chinx Estate Drops ‘Cocaine Riot 7’ On 8th Anniversary Of Rapper’s Death

As we approach the 8th anniversary of the passing of slain rapper Chinx, his estate and management team have been hard at work to release a surprise new installment titled Cocaine Riot 7. The 12 track album follows the previous CR6 effort released in December 2021, on the anniversary of the rapper’s birthday. There has been no shortage of street heat from The #1 Coke Boy as these projects follow up the previous release of the rapers Debuit Album Welcome to JFK in 2015, and Legends Never Die in 2016. Each track has been crafted to stand the test of time and proves Chinx had a timeless flow, machine like work ethic, and is still an absolute force to be reckoned with.

While the family awaits a conviction on individuals involved in his murder, they have proven his efforts were not in vain, and there is no better way to honor his legacy than to continue to feed the streets with his prolific presence.
Manager Douglas “Biggs” Ellison said, “Each time we sit down to do a project, I can’t believe how much work was put in to achieve his ultimate goal of releasing the first album. After eight years we have not only released the first album but keep delivering current timeless gems to the people. CR7 is no different, it’s pure and unadulterated Chinx speaking to the fans! I’m so glad that he can continue to live through the music. Cutting through the noise. What an accomplishment!”

Benny The Butcher And The Late Chinx Are Winning ‘Overall’ In Their Animated New Video

Just five months after he dropped his last full-length effort, Burden Of Proof, Benny The Butcher returned to the music scene in February with a new EP, The Plugs I Met 2. Now there’s a new video for the latter’s track “Overall,” which features the late Chinx. This month marks six years since Chinx, born Lionel Du Fon Pickens, died from a gunshot wound. In order to incorporate the late rapper into the video, Benny opted for an animated effort.

The “Overall” video is the fourth that Benny’s released since he dropped The Plugs I Met 2. He first teamed up with 2 Chainz for their video for “Plug Talk,” which saw the two artists attending a “Hustler’s Anonymous” meeting. Next came one for “Survivor’s Remorse,” with Rick Hyde, and another for “When Tony Met Sosa.”

While The Plugs I Met 2 was a solid follow-up to its predecessor, it didn’t come without controversy. Fat Joe, who appeared on the track “Talkin’ Back,” faced criticism for anti-Asian remarks he made on the song. A short time later, he responded to the backlash in a tweet writing, “I did that verse a year ago when the news was calling it the wuhan virus before they called it COVID i support and love all my asian brothers and sisters never hate.”

You can watch the video for “Overall” above.
