Chance The Rapper Calls To Bring The Family ‘Together’ In His New Video

Chance The Rapper has been teasing his long-awaited mixtape Star Line/em> for nearly three years. Tonight (May 14), he has given his dedicated fans the latest taste of mixtape. Ahead of the long-awaited Star Line, Chance dropped his new single, “Together.”

On the piano-driven track, produced by the illustrious DJ Premier, Chance calls for unity within his family and within his hometown of Chicago.

“We gotta stick together / Been looking at the puzzle / We gotta fit together / And looking at the struggle / We gotta lift together / And not just on the holidays / We gotta get together / It’s either now or never,” raps Chance on the song’s chorus.

The song’s accompanying video is comprised of clips of home movies featuring Chance and his friends and family. Over the years, Chicago has seen many changes — but amid all of the struggle, Chance’s lifeline has been his loved ones, all of whom, he has kept close, even through the fame.

Last month, Chance took to social media to hint that Star Line will arrive soon. In a clip shared to his Twitter account, fans got a look at a montage of videos, featuring studio sessions and performance rehearsals. Also seen in the clip are Vic Mensa, T-Pain, Lil Wayne, Lil Yachty, Jermaine Dupri, and Jazze Phat — which seems to imply collabs with these artists and producers.

Chance The Rapper & DJ Premier Reminisce On New Single “Together”

Chance the Rapper is on the comeback trail. He wisely stepped away from music following the horrible reception to The Big Day, but he’s back and he appears reenergized. There’s an emphasis on lyricism and musicality that was really lacking on his studio debut, and fans are hopeful he can get back to his Acid Rap prime. “Buried Alive” was the first teaser we heard, but now Chano has dropped off an official music video for his new single “Together.”

For starters, the production is much better than whatever was happening on The Big Day. Chance got a classic DJ Premier beat, complete with soulful vocal chops and stuttering piano keys. It evokes the same kind of nostalgia that Chance harnessed so effectively on the aforementioned Acip Rap. That being said, it does mark a distinct musical change.

Gone are the bombastic horns and gospel breakdowns, and in its place is something quieter and more contemplative. It’s the sort of beat Common would have rapped on circa Like Water for Chocolate. The comparison feels especially apt, given that Com was another Chicago legend who worked with Preemo.

“Together” also thrives on Chano’s improved pen game. The rapper dropped the preachiness that soured millions of fans and strips it down, focusing on his life as a child. “If you keep the house in the family, you can keep the family in the house,” he raps. “We used to watch ‘Annie, are you okay’ on the couch. My cousin used to slam me til I punched him in the mouth.” The video is perfectly suited to the material, as it’s made up of old video footage cobbled together from family parties.

Chance the Rapper isn’t breaking the mold with this song, but he’s proving that he’s back to making good music again, and that’s ultimately more important.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new music video for “Together” by Chance the Rapper and DJ Premier? Is this the best song Chance has put out in years? Does he fit over Preemo production? Chance the Rapper Fights Out Of A Tight Spot In His Epic, Self-Directed ‘Buried Alive’ Video

Chance The Rapper has begun the rollout for his album Star Line Gallery in earnest with its first single and music video, “Buried Alive.” In the single, Chance contemplates the bumpy road of the last six years, from falling out with his manager to getting a divorce, comparing the weight of these struggles to the titular condition. However, he also details how he managed to make it out: By using his main talent, which he compared to the escape plan enacted by Uma Thurman’s “Bride” character in Kill Bill.

The video, which takes takes inspiration from that film and the 2010 Ryan Reynolds vehicle Buried — and seemingly some unexpected sources like anime space operas Space Battleship Yamato and Macross and the Indiana Jones films — depicts this struggle visually, as Chance punches his way out of what appears to be a coffin. Once he’s busted out of those confines, though, he quickly discovers he may have just jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire when it turns out the “coffin” was actually a crate in a cargo hold. Dodging security guards, Chance goes to a porthole, where he learns he’s not just lost at sea — he’s in a spaceship, cruising through the blackness of space. The video ends on that cliffhanger, suggesting that there might be more of this narrative in store as he continues the rollout for his new project.

In the caption, Chance asked, “Buried Alive” (2024) 📓🎥 should I drop a video?” In the preview, Chance is really rapping and flowing on it, and it seems his making a return to the sound that got him to where he is now. There were some hints that this project was in the works at one point last year. On July 5, he dropped another little taste of a track on Instagram and said that “Star Line Gallery *eventually” would be coming. Chance The Rapper Unveils Star Line Gallery Art Piece “The Last Stair” In Collaboration With Thelonious Stokes At EXPO CHICAGO

Over the weekend, Chance the Rapper took center stage both in the art world and in philanthropy, showcasing his multifaceted talents and commitment to his community.

SocialWorks, the youth empowerment charity founded by Chance the Rapper, proudly presented a special benefit concert headlined by Chance himself. This one-night-only event was held on April 13th at the historic Ramova Theater in Chicago with 100% of proceeds going to the non-profit.

The highly anticipated event promised an evening of exceptional entertainment while championing a noble cause. With Chance the Rapper headlining and DJ Oreo opening, attendees experienced an immersive musical experience that reflected the spirit of giving back to the community.

Chance debuted his latest interdisciplinary work, “The Last Stair,” in collaboration with  Chicago-born, Florence-based painter Thelonious Stokes at EXPO Chicago, The International Exposition of Contemporary & Modern Art. From April 11 – April 14, the large-scale Oil on Canvas work was on view for the first time ever. “The Last Stair” is part of Chance’s highly-anticipated project, Star Line Gallery, due out later this year. Chance and Thelonious also delivered a keynote at the Expo with Asma Naeem Ph.D. (Baltimore Museum of Art), moderated by Nate Freeman (Vanity Fair). The conversation focused on their latest work and hip-hop’s ever-present influence on modern art.
Photo_Apr_15_2024__10_56_55_AM image“The Last Stair” emerges as a collaborative effort between two Chicago artists whose latest endeavors revolve around the concept of reclamation. Star Line Gallery represents a space both celebratory and vulnerable, providing a platform for Black artists to recount their narratives and share their rich histories. The forthcoming project features works created in partnership with visual artists across the Diaspora, redefining the notion of ‘album art’ and creating compelling conversations and meditations on Black life. The reclamation of the past is a powerful source of inspiration for Chance, whose Star Line Gallery works “Child of God” (collaboration with Gabonese artist and painter Naïla Opiangah), “A Bar About A Bar” (collaboration with Chicago-based painter Nikko Washington and filmmaker Troy Gueno), “The Highs & The Lows” feat. Joey Bada$$ (collaboration with Gabonese photographer Yannis Davy Guibinga), and “YAH Know” (collaboration with Chicago-based visual artist Mía Lee) have been showcased at art institutions around the world including EXPO Chicago, Art Basel, Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), The Art Institute of Chicago, and Los Angeles’ Museum Of Contemporary Art (MOCA).
Thelonious, the first African American oil painter to graduate from the Florence Academy of Art, is celebrated internationally for his pioneering technique of ‘Blackwashing’ to reclaim narratives by prominently featuring Black figures in his art. His recent portrayal of Emmett Till and his father, Louis, garnered global attention at Art Basel. In his latest work, “The Last Stair,” Thelonious continues this tradition by utilizing Judeo-Christian themes to challenge the worn-out tropes of the Western canon. Informed by his identity as an African American and his sense of being underrepresented in conventional Christian art, Thelonious presents the birth of Christ in a way that speaks directly to the diaspora, challenging prevailing mono-cultural norms.

As with any relationship, Chance the Rapper and his wife’s journey has seen its share of highs and lows. In February 2016, the couple broke up, and matters took a significant turn. As per records acquired by the Chicago Tribune, Kirsten purportedly submitted legal paperwork petitioning the court to officially recognize Chance as Kensli’s father and to maintain sole guardianship of their daughter. She also reportedly requested Chance to cover child support expenses, encompassing costs associated with pregnancy, delivery, and legal fees. This marked the onset of a custody and child support dispute. However, they eventually reached a court-mediated agreement that prioritized their daughter’s well-being in early 2017. Subsequently, the couple settled their differences out of court and reunited.

He was like, ‘Yo, you need to take care of business,’ and I came back home, and I proposed two months later.”

Following Marli’s arrival, Chance The Rapper made the heartfelt decision to postpone his tour to prioritize spending quality time with his wife and kids. He explained his decision in an Instagram post, stating: “When Kensli was born, I went on tour 2 weeks later and missed some of the most important milestones in her life, but more importantly I was absent when her mother needed me the most.
