Big Sean Makes A Sure Fire Aim With ‘Precision,’ His Triumphant Comeback Single

Big Sean is back. And this time, he’s making a sharp return. Tonight (March 22), the Detroit legend has shared “Precision,” his scorching new single.

Over the past few days, Sean has been teasing a new era on social media. This week, he shared a series of clips on Instagram, each of them sharing one common theme — clarity. And in the four years since he dropped his last album, Detroit 2, he seems to have gained quite a bit.

On “Precision,” Sean raps over an energetic beat, reminding us that while he’s been away for a minute, he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

“I’m gettin’ harder to beat, Hadouken / They sendin’ shots but somehow I just juke it / Hittin’ my death mode, f*ck it, I’m B-I-G, you know I can’t forget, I adore it,” he says on one of the song’s verses.

Outside of music, Sean tends to keep a pretty low profile. In an interview on Amanda Seales’ Small Doses podcast, Sean said letting go of control and following his emotions has helped him elevate his craft.

“I had to just accept it, stop trying to control everything, and live in the moment and go with your feelings,” he says. “And I applied that to the studio, and that’s when things really started popping for me.”

Big Sean Seemingly Addresses Competing With Hip-Hop’s ‘So-Called Bigger Three,’ Drake, J. Cole & Kendrick Lamar

Last December, TMZ approached (read: accosted in a parking lot) Big Sean and asked him several questions about the term “rizz” before sneaking in a more pointed question about “the Kendrick diss,” a reference to Kendrick Lamar’s leaked alternate version of “Element,” an unreleased diss track that found Lamar (allegedly) roasting several of his contemporaries, including Sean.

“Ain’t no diss,” Big Sean told TMZ, ensuring everything was cool between him and K. Dot. And that may very well be true, but Big Sean seemed to allude to Lamar in a new freestyle posted on Wednesday, March 20.

“Look I been in the crib getting over this food poisoning (Norovirus),” Sean captioned his Instagram video. “I figured if Jordan can play in the Finals w/ food poisoning, least I can do is drop some bars! WE LETTING MORE FLY TOMORROW!!!”

Big Sean rapped “over this J Dilla flip Boi-1da, Leon Thomas, and Jahaan Sweet” sent him, as he explained on X (formerly Twitter): “I think where I lack most as an artist is consistency / I just haven’t had the energy to compete with enemies / Or y’all so-called Bigger Three.”

Lamar, Drake, and J. Cole are widely considered this generation’s “Big Three” in rap — so much so that Complex did an oral history of their unofficial race dating back to 2010. However, Big Sean has not conceded to any external pressure to use them as a measuring stick, especially considering the Detroit rapper hasn’t dropped an album since Detroit 2 in September 2020.

On March 15, Big Sean teased “new music [is] on the way” in the caption of a five-minute mini-documentary entitled “Clarity,” capturing him reflecting on becoming a new father and staying grounded. The video shows behind-the-scenes footage of Sean presumably working on his next album, including footage in the studio with the likes of Cole Bennett, Hit-Boy, Lil Yachty, and Tyler, The Creator.

Shortly after posting his freestyle, Big Sean also wrote on X, “This next run personal, LFG!!!” So, it would appear there is more where that “so-called Bigger Three” bar came from.

Eminem’s Destructive ‘Doomsday 2’ Video Causes Cameo Chaos With Big Sean, Cordae, Denzel Curry, And More

Lyrical Lemonade’s Cole Bennett has been on this interesting visual kick for the videos from the creative collective’s new album All Is Yellow. Black suits and yellow ties have adorned the performers, while locations have incorporated the titular color in the form of backgrounds, curtains, and pops of brightness amid greyscale filming.

In the video for Eminem’s “Doomsday 2,” Bennett even goes so far as to revisit the office building set from the first “Doomsday” video with Cordae and Juice WRLD. This time, though, the lyrical destruction has the office hallway in an even worse state than before, with ceiling panels falling out, exposed wires sparking, and bodies littering the walkway.

In addition to Eminem’s percussive performance, the video also features cameos from many of All Is Yellow‘s other stars, including Babytron, Big Sean, Cordae, Denzel Curry, JID, and Teezo Touchdown — all of whom you could argue take massive influence from Eminem as an artist. Even Swae Lee shows up.

A lot of jokes have been made about Eminem falling off in recent years, but if the “Doomsday 2” is anything to judge by, it looks like his respect among the younger generation is just as high as it’s ever been.

Big Sean Reveals A New Album Is In The Works

Big Sean has been a rapper who is seen by some as the “corny dad jokes rapper.” But, his lengthy career is one that does not get enough love. He may not be on the level of Drake, Kendrick Lamar, or J. Cole. However, he has had a big hand in the explosive 2010 decade/era of hip-hop. Sean has the hits in his discography such as “Blessings,” “Bounce Back,” “Pull Up N Wreck,” and plenty more. However, since the start of the 2020 decade, Sean has not dropped a new album. Yes, he did bring out a deluxe of Detroit 2, as well as bringing his famous mixtape Detroit to streaming in 2022.

But, if we are technical about it, four years have gone by since his last new album. Even in terms of features, Sean has not seen much activity there either. You can find him on Larry June and The Alchemist’s 2023 project The Great Escape. In 2024, he and Bryson Tiller worked together for the Kentucky native’s SLUM TILLER VOL. 3 which is on Soundcloud. But, a recent Instagram comment has fans excited that Sean is finally ready to give us something bigger soon.

Jay-Z’s “Beach Is Better” Was Originally Made For This Rapper, Mike Will Made-It Claims

Many of the biggest songs in popular music have long and complicated histories that led them to arrive at being big hits. That often includes tracks being passed around between various artists behind the scenes. Some of the most common pieces of music trivia include popular songs that were originally made for entirely different artists than they would go on to be associated with. During a recent podcast appearance, Mike Will Made-It revealed which one of Jay-Z’s songs wasn’t originally made for him.

The song in question is “Beach Is Better” from Jay-Z’s 2013 album Magna Cart Holy Grail. “Alright, so, ‘Beach is Better’ started off: Big Sean had ’10 to 10.’ He wanted a beat around ’10 to 10.’ So we had did a couple of beats around the a cappella voice note that he had. And ‘Beach is Better’ was one of them,” Mike Will Made-It revealed. Despite that, he never heard back from Big Sean to claim the beat. He reveals that in a session with Hov that followed shortly after the song began to morph into its final version. Check out the clip where he tells the full story below.

Mike Will Made-It Talks Jay-Z Song That Started As Big Sean’s

Lil Wayne, Jorja Smith, and Kid Cudi all pop up on various tracks. Additionally, Jay-Z himself even teams up with R&B legend D’Angelo on the 9-minute song “I Want You Forever.”

Recently, Jay-Z took to Twitter spaces to discuss the soundtrack. He specifically gave credit to Doja Cat for her appearance on “JEEZU.” She raps alongside Kodak Black on the song and Hov was impressed by her artistic process. Did Kendrick Lamar Diss Big Sean On His Song ‘Element?’

Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers continues to rack up impressive streaming numbers. However, thanks to a viral clip floating around online, his 2017 song “Element” has reentered the mainstream hip-hop chatter. Unlike the official version, Kendrick’s bars in this recording have very clearly named targets. So, did Kendrick diss Big Sean on the unreleased version of “Element?”

The lyrics in question make it hard to refute: “Big Sean keep sneak dissin’ I let it slide / I think his false confidence got him inspired / I can’t make them respect you, baby, it’s not my job / You’re finally famous for who you date, not how you rhyme boy/ Cute ass raps, get your puberty up.” However, during his causal chat with TMZ, Big Sean shut down the idea of any lingering beef between the two.

He went as far as to dismiss the supposed leaked verse, saying, “Ain’t no diss. If it was a diss, it would be a diss!”

Big Sean was the only person mentioned in the unreleased recording. French Montana and Jay Electronica both caught strays. Even Meek Mill and Drake are referenced. Since Kendrick Lamar’s verse on Big Sean’s 2013 “Control” song, supporters of each rapper have speculated that they’ve subtly taken jabs at each other on records throughout the years.

Big Sean Is In His Dad Joke Era, As He Couldn’t Have Been More Wrong About What ‘Rizz’ Means

In November 2022, Big Sean and Jhené Aiko welcomed their son, Noah. Simple math: Big Sean has had 13 months to embrace fatherhood, and the Detroit rapper was quick to deploy a dad joke — even if it was a slightly inappropriate one — when approached by TMZ on Tuesday, December 19.

In the 98-second video, The off-camera correspondent brought it to Sean Don’s attention that the Oxford Word Of The Year is “rizz.” Before she could ask him a question about it, Big Sean interjected, “Rizz as in ‘j*zz’?”

“No,” the TMZ correspondent responded, disappointment soaking her voice. Big Sean claimed, “I was just playin’,” but he asked what the word means. According to The Associated Press, rizz is “a term used by Generation Z to describe someone’s ability to attract or seduce another person,” and it is short for charisma, as explained by Jimmy Fallon.

Anyway, back to Big Sean, who teased he will drop an album at some point in the near-ish future — “it’s been a while” — but wouldn’t commit to whether he used “Gen-Z words” in songs on the very vaguely confirmed album. “I guess you’re gonna have to wait and find out if I used rizz on the album,” he said, and the tone of his voice suggests he was just saying anything to get to the end of this interaction — playful yet exasperated.

“Rizz, well, it’s kind of like RZA, right?” he said.

Again, no, Big Sean. Not at all.
