Lil Durk is coming off hot off of the release of his latest album, Almost Healed. The highly-anticipated 21-song effort boasted many features, from Billboard darlings like J. Cole and the late Juice WRLD to up-and-coming rappers like Rob49. In addition to features from Alicia Keys, 21 Savage, and Kodak Black, Durk locked in for another record with country star Morgan Wallen. The two previously locked in for 2021’s “Broadway Girls” but it’s pretty evident that their bond has gotten stronger over the years.

The collaborators dive into the world of trap country. With production from Dr. Luke, who also produced “All My Life,” the two artists serve up a bubbly anthem with “Stand By Me” intended for TikTok and Billboard success. With both artists on the record, “Stand By Me” looks like it’ll be one of those songs that dominated Spotify and Apple Music all summer. However, it doesn’t seem like Durk might head back out to the waters any time soon. “Family is family can’t nothing change that p.s. I’m done with fish,” he wrote. Meanwhile, Wallen gave Durk credit for his skills. “Durk done pulled up and taught me how to fish,” he wrote in one post as he posted alongside the rapper. Lil Durk’s new album Almost Healed is well on its way to a massive debut for the Chicago MC, and it’s not hard to see why. Sure, some tracks like “Sad Songs” caught some ridicule online, but the project is filled with deeper introspections on dark street themes, mental health, and personal struggle. However, this track featuring 21 Savage is not for that, as it’s yet another hard-hitting and aggressive offering in his catalog. Moreover, “War Bout It” is one of a few standout collaborations on the album’s tracklist, and it’s one that’s right up the feature’s alley. That’s due to the eerie, sharp, and dramatic production courtesy of none other than Metro Boomin.

While this track is nothing new or particularly surprising from this trio, it does an effective job of providing one of the more villainous moments on Almost Healed. For starters, there’s a textbook Metro beat: crisp drum patterns and timbres, menacing synth pads in the background, elegant and embellished piano leads, and haunting vocal samples. Of course, 21 Savage can ride a beat from the St. Louis legend with his eyes closed, and his flows display that skill aptly. His verse, the second and last on the track, focuses on his untouchable status and speaking down on minions who think themselves to be moguls. There’s not much more you can ask for from the Atlanta spitter these days; even if it’s more of the same, there’s a quality standard to keep.

One of the most notable comes courtesy of Juice WRLD, who appears on the track “Cross The Globe.” Of course, as expected with a Juice appearance, it comes with a somber weight, and not much is known on how this specific song came about regarding his tragically cut-short time on this planet. Regardless, it’s still a compelling albeit loose collab.

For one, topically the two Chicago MCs focus on much of the same: sex, drugs, and street violence. Still, the eerie guitar-led beat gives the track a melancholy feel to it, accentuated by their understated vocal deliveries. Alicia Keys Guides Lil Durk Through A ‘Therapy Session’ Before He Revisits His Pain In ‘Pelle Coat’

Lil Durk is gearing up to release Almost Healed. The album’s spoken-word opener, “Therapy Session” featuring Alicia Keys, establishes from jump that the title isn’t empty. The Chicago rapper is inviting fans into the depths of his ongoing healing process.

Lil Durk released the video for “Therapy Session/Pelle Coat” on Thursday, May 25 — combining the album’s first and second tracks visually. The Steve Cannon-directed cinematic experience begins with Keys’ omnipresence. She and Durk aren’t physically in the same space, but he’s listening intently to her as she acts as his therapist.

Keys asks Lil Durk about his state of mind when he “heard the news about your friend, Von, passing away on November 6, 2020, and then the loss of your brother on June 6, 2021.” She validates how devastated Lil Durk must have felt before encouraging him “to feel completely safe in this room” and “express your vulnerabilities.”

“Today is May 26,” Keys says. “Remember that you don’t have to go through this alone. I’m here to listen. You have the voice in this room. I wanna hear from Durk Banks.”

Abruptly, we see Lil Durk startled in his car at night. Was that scene all a dream? A repetitive rumination cycle in his mind as a byproduct of buried trauma? A tear falls from his eye as the video transitions into “Pelle Coat,” and the rest of the video follows Lill Durk retracing the past.

Lil Durk’s New Album ‘Almost Healed’: Here’s Everything We Know So Far

Lil Durk has been generous lately. The Chicago rapper’s Neighborhood Heroes HBCU College & Career Readiness Cohort Program donated $100,000 scholarships to two Howard University students, and Lil Durk added another $250,000 to Howard’s GRACE Grant program for financial aid.

He also met with Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson to discuss his foundation and how they could work together to help the city’s youth. Some people claimed Lil Durk only met with Johnson as album promotion, but he firmly denied that. “Stop saying my name on all negativity I’m smarter then [sic] that post what we doing for these kids [trophy emoji, globe emoji] – the voice,” he tweeted on May 8.

An album is coming from Lil Durk this week, though. Almost Healed will arrive over a year after March 2022’s 7220, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and almost exactly two years after his joint album with Lil Baby, The Voice Of The Heroes.
