Childish Gambino’s “Lithonia” Music Video Takes A Horrifying Turn: Watch

Childish Gambino knows how to sell an aesthetic. He alters his look for each album rollout, and the music videos that accompany his singles follow suit. “3005” is worlds away from “This Is America,” and his new single, “Lithonia,” is different from both. The video for “Lithonia” starts off with a surprisingly minimal set up. Childish Gambino steps to the mic and sings. The camera focuses on his mouth, and stays put for the first 40 seconds before cutting to a wide shot. From there, a band shuffles in behind the artist and starts jamming.

“Lithonia” has a rock and post-punk influence, which is relatively within Childish Gambino’s catalog. The band members will look familiar to fans of both indie music and film. The drummer is Alex Wolff, who got his start in the Naked Brothers Band but has since gone on to star in the classic horror flick Hereditary. The guitarist is Ludwig Goransson, Gambino’s longtime producer and Oscar-winning composer of the film Oppenheimer. A small audience sits before the band, listening intently as the music swells. It’s the switch at the 1:30 mark, though, where things really take a turn for the weird. The band members begin to exhibit strange behavior, culminating with Gambino screaming until his eyeballs literally explode.

Childish Gambino Turns Feral In New Music Video

The girl in the front row gets covered in blood, and proceeds to run out of the studio. The video hard cuts to her running outside, but Childish Gambino chases after her. The artist can no longer see (obviously), but feral instincts appear to have kicked in, and he lets out an animalistic scream. It’s pretty unsettling, especially given how sudden the shift from weirdness to outright terror is. Gambino has never officially dabbled in horror, but he’s flirted with the genre in the past. He was the co-creator and producer of the HBO show Swarm, which detailed a woman’s disturbing obsession with a pop star.

The music video for “Lithonia” also harkens back to Childish Gambino’s breakout single, “Bonfire.” The 2011 standout from Camp featured the rapper waking up in the woods with a noose around his neck. He spends the rest of the video trying to warn his friends about an impending murderer. The video ends with Childish Gambino realizing that he’s a ghost, and that none of the other campers can see or hear him. We’re curious to see how the rest of the Bando Stone and the New World music videos continue the “Lithonia” storyline.

Slim Thug Says He’s Made More Off Mixtapes Than Any Artist Ever

Slim Thug has been rapping since the late 90s. He’s one of the OGs of Houston hip-hop, and he’s kept up his impressive output throughout the 21st century. He has 20 mixtapes, a half a dozen collab albums, and 15 studio albums to his name. It’s safe to assume he’s made a pretty penny off these releases, but Slim Thug went a step further during an interview with The Art of Dialogue. The rapper went as far as to claim that he’s made more money from mixtapes than any artist in history. No hyperbole or quotes taken out of context. Thug is legit laying claim to being the mixtape king.

The rapper was so confident in his claim that he detailed his retail process. Slim Thug told The Art of Dialogue that he figured out how to move tapes when he was a teenager. He credited Michael “5000” Watts, the co-founder of Swishahouse Records, for showing him the ropes. “When I first met Michael ‘5000’ Watts, he showed me that I can do something that I love to do,” the rapper noted. “I’ve learned self-value from day one. No n**ga underground made more money on mixtapes than me independently.” Slim Thug went on to assert that his mixtape hustle has been far more profitable than his peers. He said that New York sellers like DJ Drama would lose money by giving tapes away for free.

Slim Thug Has Been Dropping Tapes For 25 Years

“Not them n**gas Drama and them either,” he told the outlet. “They was giving they sh*t away. Our wholesale price was eight [dollars].” The price, coupled with Slim Thug’s longevity, is what has led the rapper to boast about his profits. “No n**ga was getting more money than us who did it that long,” he promised. “No n-gga did it as long as Slim — underground, getting paid off mixtapes… Period.” This is not the first time that Slim Thug has flexed his hustling skills to an outlet. During a 2016 interview with Forbes, the rapper detailed the various adjustments that he’s had to make in order to stay relevant and successful when retail chains like Best Buy cut into his profits.

Slim Thug signed a contract with Interscope Records, but returned to being an indie artist after he fulfilled his album deal. He claimed that he only signed the deal in order to boost his profile, and accrue new fans that he could subsequently sell to on his own. “I just took advantage of the promotion they gave me,” he admitted. “They promoted me worldwide. I wanted to take advantage of that and say, let me go back independent with the worldwide promotion that Interscope gave me already and benefit off of that.” While it’s hard to fact check Slim Thug’s mixtape claim, it’s hard to deny his business acumen.

EST Gee’s Manager EST Big Beach Was Reportedly Killed Following The Rapper’s Louisville Concert

According to reports, Yo Gotti’s CMG Records team is in mourning. Yesterday (July 21), following signee EST Gee’s highly anticipated homecoming concert, the “Never Scared” rapper’s longtime friend and manager, EST Big Beach, was supposedly killed (as told by WDRB) in Louisville, Kentucky.

The local outlet shared that EST Big Beach (real name Devontae Beach) was found inside a vehicle with riddled with gunshot wounds by emergency responders. Beach was in town to support his client and friend’s EST Gee & Friends Summer Jam concert being held at KFC Yum Center the day prior.

In the report, Louisville Metro Police Department spokesperson Aaron Ellis provided further details. Supposedly, a local reached out to local authorities to report a shooting around the 800 block of West Main Street in the late evening hours. Around 1:30 a.m., police arrived to the scene to find Beach. Although Emergency Medical Services were called to the area to tend to the matter, but sadly Beach was pronounced dead.

Since the incident, LMPD’s Homicide Unit has opened an investigation. However, at this time, they reportedly do not have any suspects.

None of the CMG Records team have issued a public statement regarding EST Big Beach’s alleged death. But that hasn’t stopped fans and local supporters from flooding the music professional’s comment section across Instagram with touching tributes.

Chris Brown, Yella Beezy, And Live Nation Were Reportedly Named In A $50 Million Lawsuit Over A Supposed ’11:11 Tour’ Assault

Chris Brown is hot water. The “No Guidance” singer is currently traveling around the country for his 11:11 Tour, and while in Fort Worth, Texas, he was reportedly involved in a full-out brawl.

According to TMZ, Brown, members of his crew, including Yella Beezy and Sinko Ceej as Live Nation, have been named in a $50 million lawsuit. The documents obtained by the outlet allege that on July 20, the group physically assaulted four fans backstage at Dickies Arena.

The supposed victims (Larry Parker, Joseph Lewis, Charles Bush, and Da Marcus Powell) claimed that following Brown’s performance they were invited backstage. When they met up with Brown, they praised his performance earlier in the evening. But after a brief friendly exchange, things toured sour.

Bush said that a member of Brown’s team attempted to rile the entertainer up, recounting a supposed ongoing beef. He went on to say, they were immediately pounced on by up to ten people. An alleged assailant known as Hood Boss supposedly threw a chair, which struck him in the head. He also claimed Brown commanded Yella Beezy and others to join in on the alleged assault, which he says lasted 10 minutes.

In a statement, the attorney representing the alleged victims, Tony Buzbee, said each of the four men sustained severe injuries which required medical treatments. As of today (July 22), one of the supposed victims is still in the hospital.

The alleged victims have also reportedly filed for restraining orders against Brown, Yella Beezy, and Sinko Ceej.

Kamala Harris Walks Out To Beyonce Song After Tina Knowles Endorsement

Kamala Harris isn’t wasting time. President Joe Biden stepped down on Sunday, July 21, and Harris, the new Democratic nominee, gave a speech on July 22. Recognizing the importance of strong branding, the current Vice President decided to use Beyonce’s “Freedom” as her walk-out song. “Freedom,” released by Bey on her self-titled album, is described by Genius as an “anthem dedicated to Black women.” Given the reverence for the song, and Harris’ public profile, the alignment of art and politics makes sense.

This is not the first time Kamala Harris has publicly aligned herself with Beyonce’s music. During a 2023 interview with People Magazine, the VP revealed that she attended Bey’s Renaissance World Tour. She also cited “Break My Soul” as her favorite song on the Renaissance album. “I just love that song,” Harris explained. “I play it all the time. It’s one of the anthems for women. When [Beyonce says] ‘you,’ you could be life, you could be a person, you could be a situation. You will not break my soul.” Bey’s last album, Cowboy Carter, drew similarly high praise from Harris. “You have redefined a genre and reclaimed country music’s Black roots,” she wrote on Twitter. “Your music continues to inspire us all.”

Kamala Harris Is An Avid Beyonce Supporter

The timing of Kamala Harris’ “Freedom” needle drop could have been more perfectly timed. The same day the VP utilized the Beyonce song, Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles, endorsed her presidential bid. “You asked for it and our President Biden did what was best for the country,” Knowles explained on IG. “Putting personal Ego, power and fame aside. That is the definition of a great leader,” Knowles thanked Biden for his decision and made it clear she was behind Harris all the way. “Thank you, President Biden for your service and your leadership,” she added. “Go Vice President Kamala Harris for President.”

Beyonce has not spoken publicly about Kamala Harris. She did, however, provide the Vice President with free tickets to her show in 2023. NBC News reported that the tickets Bey gifted to Harris were valued at a whopping $1655.92. Harris returned the favor by posting photos of the concert, and thanking Beyonce for the kind gesture. “Thanks for a fun date night, @Beyonce,” she wrote on August 6. Both Beyonce and JAY-Z have made their friendship with the Obamas public, and have been vocal about their politics in the past. Only time will tell if Beyonce decides to voice support for the new candidate.

Eminem Scores Bizarre New Billboard Achievement With His Latest Song

Eminem knows how to move units. He’s the best-selling rap artist of all time for a reason. He’s also the first rapper to win an Oscar for Best Original Song, and the first to have ten consecutive albums top the charts. We’d list more accomplishments but we’d be here all day. The bottom line is, Eminem continues to be historically popular. Which makes his latest Billboard record impressive, if not altogether surprising. The rapper has notched another achievement by having the second-shortest-ever song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The song? “Trouble,” which is an interlude on his new album The Death of Slim Shady.

You’d be forgiven for not knowing “Trouble” off the top of your head. The song is only 42 seconds long. It serves as a plot point for the Death of Slim Shady concept than an actual song. That being said, it has connected with enough fans that it somehow managed to crack the Billboard singles chart. The record holder for shortest song on the Billboard Hot 100 still belongs to Kid Cudi. The rapper managed to crack the charts with his 2020 intro “Beautiful Trip,” which was only 37 seconds in length. Fortunately, for Em, several other cuts from The Death of Slim Shady have cracked the Billboard Hot 100. “Houdini” peaked at number two, while his Big Sean and BabyTron collab, “Tobey,” peaked at number 27.

Eminem Has The Second-Shortest Charting Song Ever

Eminem may not have been able to overthrow Kid Cudi for the shortest song, but he did stop another pop icon from achieving a record. The Death of Slim Shady claimed the top spot on the Billboard 200, aka the album charts. This not only reinforced Em’s stature as a superstar, but it kept Taylor Swift from securing an 11th consecutive week at number one with her latest album. If Eminem hadn’t booted Swift from the top spot, The Tortured Poets Department would have tied the record for longing-running pop album atop the Billboard charts. As it stands, Stevie Wonder’s Songs In the Key of Life (1976) still holds the record.

Impressively, The Death of Slim Shady has boosted the streaming numbers of Eminem’s older songs as well. Forbes reported that the success of “Houdini” has led to a renewed interest in Em’s 2002 smash hit “Without Me.” The new single samples and pays homage to “Without Me” in its music video, so it makes sense that fans would get him with the nostalgia bug. That being said, the numbers are nothing short of staggering. “Without Me” sold 1,250 copies in the U.S. during the second week of June. That marked a 309% increase from the previous tracking period. Eminem has still got it.
