Solange Knowles Reacts To Sonya Massey’s Murder With Passionate Message

Solange Knowles weighed in on the murder of Sonya Massey. Massey’s death at the hands of Sangamon County Sheriff’s Deputy Sean Grayson sent shockwaves through the country recently. Massey, a 36-year-old Black woman, called 911 to report a possible “prowler” at her home in Springfield. When police arrived, Massey and the two officers who responded to her call had a tense moment when Massey turned her stove off and was holding a pot of boiling water, which had been on the stove since before police arrived.

The first words Massey says to the officers that the body camera footage captures is “don’t hurt me.” A Soon after the officers entered her home, Massey says “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus” to the officers while holding the pot, leading to confusion and the officers raising their voices at her. Shortly after, Grayson shoots her in the head and then prevents anyone from administering aid to her. Solange Knowles is the latest celebrity to make her displeasure with police and heartbreak at Massey’s death known. She took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her brief thoughts.

Sonya Massey’s death shocked her community. Her family did not know that a deputy shot her until they learned the truth of the situation on the news. Massey’s father, James Wilburn, called for county sheriff Jack Campbell’s resignation. High-profile attorney Ben Crump, who represented the families of Tyre Nichols, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd, called Massey’s death unjustifiable. “It’s one of the worst police shooting videos ever,” said Crump.

Massey’s death also prompted President Joe Biden to once again urge Congress to consider passing the George Floyd Justice In Policing Act, a police reform bill introduced in 2021 that would largely change how policing works in the United States. The bill passed through the House of Representatives but was stopped in its tracks on the Senate floor, as a vote that went largely along party lines meant that the majority needed was not going to be reached. Sean Grayson is in custody and was indicted by a grand jury last week on three counts of first-degree murder and one count each of aggravated battery with a firearm and official misconduct. Hopefully, Massey’s family finds justice as they navigate through such tragedy.

Lupe Fiasco confessed some of his masturbation habits while speaking with Joe Budden and fans during an X (formerly Twitter) Spaces conversation. The topic began with Fiasco asking what happened to porn being on Twitter. “Where is the porn on Twitter ’cause I can’t find it?” he said.

From there, a fan asked about the type of porn he consumes. “I’ve evolved over time,” Fiasco began. “You start with the light sh*t, then eventually you get bored with the light sh*t and start dipping into — I got some VR glasses for my birthday a couple years ago, so those are purely porn glasses at this point.” He went on to reveal that he prefers to wear condoms during the act to assist with the clean-up process.

Ice Spice & Her Team Reamed Out By Wig Maker For Allegedly Not Paying For 24 Examples

Ice Spice and her team are not looking good right now because a wig maker is claiming they need to pay up big time. According to an Instagram post from The Neighborhood Talk, the superstar asked The Bella Brand, a popular hair company, to create dozens of custom wigs for her now current Y2K! World Tour. It originally started out at 19, according to the company’s owner, Gia, but Spice raised it to 24 in total shortly after. Apparently, these two have collaborated prior to this booking, so Gia was down do it. However, when it was time to send over the payment, the hitmaker’s team did not have the budget to cover it.

Despite this originally surprising setback, Gia was sure they would be able to make things work. Sadly, the opposite happened as the payment date was a revolving door. Furthermore, “Spice’s team allegedly canceled the wig orders 1 day before they were due for delivery”. Because of this inconvenience, Gia said that Spice’s team was willing to send her a service fee. Even with that promise, Gia did not get a single dime. The business owner reminded them of their lack of cooperation after Spice’s people sent in another order and that is when things turned sour.

Gia put the performer’s affiliates on blast following this, saying, “Things happen, but that is not how you handle someone that respects your business AND ALWAYS comes through for you at the very last minute LITERALLY!!!!!! Snoop Dogg Mourns Death Of His Cousin Who Drew Iconic “Doggystyle” Album Cover

Snoop Dogg has announced that his cousin, Darryl “Joe Cool” Daniel, has passed away. He mourned the late artist in a tribute on Instagram on Tuesday while sharing a video of the two of them backstage at a concert. In the caption, he wrote: “R. I. P. [prayer hands emoji, crying emoji] my big cuzn joe cool.” Cool is best known for his work with Snoop which included the album cover for Doggystyle.

Snoop and Joe Cool’s cousin, Daz Dillinger, also paid tribute to the late artist in a post on Instagram. “REST N PEACE DARYL JOE COOL DANIEL [explosion emoji, 100 emoji] MY BIGG CUZZN THIS REALLY HURTS WE GREW UP TOGETHER U WAS THERE FROM DAY ONE IM GONE REALLY REALLY MISS U BIGG CUZ [prayer hands emoji],” he wrote.

Vince Staples Issued A Very Vince Staples Response To A Vince Staples Vs. J. Cole Debate On X/Twitter

For almost as long as rap has existed, fans have loved debating the merits of one rapper over others. Jay-Z and Nas, Drake and Kendrick Lamar, Lil Kim and Foxy Brown, Cardi B and Nicki Minaj… these arguments are well known among hip-hop fans. However, a new one has cropped up thanks to social media: J. Cole and Vince Staples.

Like most online debates, this one was started by an account expressing a “hot take” with which fans took issue. “There’s not a single thing Vince Staples does better than J. Cole,” it wrote. Within an hour, the challenge was met by a dissenter who wrote, “I’m a J. Cole fan but Vince does just about everything better than Cole.” Thus, we were off to the races, with various voices chiming in to make their points or refute others’.

Of course, the funniest response came from Staples himself. As fans pitted the two rappers against each other, Vince had a characteristically cheeky response, tweeting, “You n****s need jobs” and following up with, “So passionate about hip hop but I’ve yet to see one of you weird ass n****s break dance.”

We here at Uproxx support both rappers, but tend to agree with Vince here: There are far more interesting things going on in the culture than subjective comparisons of “who’s better.”

Kehlani Announces The ‘Crash World Tour,’ And She’s Bringing Anycia And FLO Along For The Ride

Kehlani continues to be one of R&B’s finest on her latest album, Crash, which just dropped in June. Now that fans have had a minute to process the album, it’s onto the next item on the agenda: Today (July 23), Kehlani announced the Crash World Tour.

The run will feature FLO and Anycia and it runs for a couple months. It starts in Minneapolis on September 4 before wrapping up in San Francisco on November 2. During that stretch, Kehlani will also find herself in Chicago, Toronto, Brooklyn, Los Angeles, and more.

Tickets first go on sale with a Citi pre-sale starting on July 23 at 2 p.m. local time. Following that will be the general on-sale on July 26 at 10 a.m. via Kehlani’s website.

The Weeknd Delivers Over Two Minutes Of New Music With His Latest Teaser

The Weeknd is easily one of the biggest and best R&B artists in the entire world. Having said that, it should come as no surprise that fans are heavily anticipating his next release. Overall, After Hours and Dawn FM were two phenomenal albums that were part of the same universe. In fact, it has been said that The Weeknd is currently in the midst of a new trilogy of projects. There have been teasers for that third project, and now, it seems clear that Abel is in the middle of his rollout.

Below, you can see what appears to be some sort of AI music video in which his younger self is being spoken to by some sort of deity or prophet. Moreover, we get over two minutes of new music. It has that synthpop vibe of his last two projects, and The Weeknd’s vocals are phenomenal, as always. The Weeknd captioned this new snippet by simply saying “when you gaze long enough into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you…” We have no clue what this means, but it sure sounds interesting.

The Weeknd Is Ready

If you are a fan of The Weeknd, then this should come as great news. He has some large shows planned in the not-so-distant future and by then, perhaps a new song will be out. The new era is most definitely upon us, and that can only mean good things for the music world. Hopefully, Abel will give us this new music sooner rather than later. Otherwise, there could be some angry folks out there.
