Beyonce Gets Crowd To Wish Solange A Happy Birthday In Frankfurt

Beyoncé is coming to the end of the European leg of the Renaissance Tour. Beginning on May 10 in Stockholm, Beyoncé has held 19 concerts across 13 cities in 9 countries. The North American leg of the tour begins in Toronto on July 8.

The June 24 concert in Frankfurt, Germany marked the third-from-last stop of the European leg. It also happened to coincide with the 37th birthday of Beyoncé’s younger sister, Solange.

In front of a packed crowd at Deutsche Bank Park, Beyoncé shouted out her sister before getting the concert-goers to wish her a happy birthday. Meanwhile, the Beyhive dug up some adorable throwback footage of Solange.

Solange Dances With Blue Ivy In Adorable Throwback Footage

As mentioned, the Beyhive had a present on its own. Spread on social media by Beyoncé’s dedicated fanbase, the somewhat grainy footage appears to show Solange dancing with her niece, Blue Ivy.

However, some fans believe the footage actually shows Solange dancing with her younger niece, Rumi. While it has not blossomed into an all-out fandom war, the debate has been fairly spirited.

Regardless of who is dancing with Solange, it’s an adorable video. Furthermore, it just goes to show the bond that is held by the various members of the Knowles family. But do you think it’s Blue or Rumi? Let us know in the comments.

Dancer Prevents Nip Slip In Hamburg

Elsewhere, one of Beyoncé’s long-time dancers prevented disaster during the June 21 concert in Hamburg. As Beyoncé performed “BREAK MY SOUL”, one of the straps of her dress began to slip. This could have potentially led to an internet-breaking nip slip in the historic German city.

However, disaster was averted as one of the Les Twins danced in front of Beyoncé as she fixed her wardrobe. In fact, the process was so seamless that many people didn’t even clock it as anything more than part of the choreography.

This has led to widespread praise of the dancer, for both his quick thinking and professionalism. However, it’s not the only technical difficulty the tour has faced. In London, a mid-song costume change nearly cost Beyoncé her headset. Meanwhile, she was visibly unimpressed with members of the crew while in Amsterdam.

Solange Reveals Plans For Seven-Show Series In Brooklyn

Solange brings her masterful eye in curation to the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) this year. “Eldorado Ballroom” by Solange for Saint Heron is a 7-show series that commemorates decades of explorative performance. In Saint Heron’s program notes, the inspiration for this collection of shows is described further: “Solange’s dedication to reverencing and preserving the works of Black practitioners through Saint Heron continues with a lineup consisting of contemporary and historic creative revolutionaries whose artistry and innovation has left a profound mark on music and performance art.” Accordingly, the seven programs will feature a variety of different artists, carefully intermingling to depict “intergenerational expressions.”

To start, Kelela, Res, and Keiyaa will collectively kick off the program on March 30th. All three performers will showcase their vast and dynamic genre-blending takes on R&B, with Kelela incorporating electronic, Res fusing rock and soul, and Keiyaa involving spiritual sound in her performance. Saint Heron notes that “the lineup calls the audience’s attention toward a greater expanse of musical territory drawn directly from the technological frequency of Black women’s experimentation in music production.”

Solange For Saint Heron Presents “Eldorado Ballroom”

The following 6 programs follow in a similar suit while still exploring a different range. March 31st & April 1st will host “Type Of Guest,” featuring Autumn Knight and Marren Hassinger and their performance art. Following this is “Glory To Glory (A Revival For Devolution Art)”, which depicts religious expression in music. After, “The Cry For My People” will follow with Archie Shepp, Linda Sharrock and Claudia Rankine leading a musical performance and poetry reading reflecting Black life in America. “Unseen Nuyorican Pictures” and “Coeval Dance Films” are the fifth and sixth shows on the program. The former is a film examining Latin creative expression in NYC, and the latter presents “Black and contemporary dance films.” The final installment of the program takes place in September, with “On Dissonance: An Evening of Classical and Opera Works” completing “Eldorado Ballroom.”

“Eldorado Ballroom,” coined after a historic Black music hall in Solange’s neighborhood of Houston, exemplifies the power of experimental artistry. Based on both BAM and Saint Heron’s multigenerational communities, this show likely will appeal to a large audience. Clearly, Solange has carefully curated this exquisitely crafted list of artistry. Tickets can be purchased online via BAM’s website.

Lizzo Sings Her ‘Best Vocals With A Sinus Infection,’ Which She Did On A New ‘Special’ Song

Being sick — especially when the symptoms impact the mouth, nose, or throat — can have a noticeable impact on how our voices sound. For Lizzo, she sees some instances of that as a positive: She actually recorded “Naked,” a song from her new album Special, while she had a sinus infection, which she insists is when she’s at her vocal best.

First, Lizzo told Apple Music that the song was partially inspired by seeing Solange live:

“Initially, I wanted to write a song about how comfortable I’ve become with myself, but then I evolved as a person. And as I’ve evolved, ‘Naked’ has undergone a lot of rewriting. It has evolved with me. So now it’s like, ‘How accepting are you of me?’ It’s very intimate. I saw Solange perform a couple years ago now at the Lovebox Festival in London, and I was in awe of her set because she had so much nuance. Meanwhile, I’m all bravado. I’m in-your-face, loud-loud-loud, full-throttle. I was like, ‘Man, on my next album, I want nuance.’ Because there’s nothing like the control that she has, the power she has in the quiet.”

She then added of her singing on the song, “So on ‘Naked,’ I’m in a half-falsetto for most of the song. I’m ad-libbing here and there. I’m having a little chat. It’s under your breath. Also, I had a sinus infection when I sang this, and frankly I give the best vocals with a sinus infection.”

Solange’s Son Posted Some Of His Music To Social Media And Fans Weren’t Impressed

Solange Knowles is one talented lady. Completely aside from being Beyonce’s sister — something that likely both benefitted and hindered her own music career over the years — Solange has been a groundbreaking musician, film director, and even art curator over the past few years. Her work is a lightning rod of empowerment and representation for Black women, and she’s always looked super cool doing it. Rumor has it that she’s also nice with her hands when people disrespect her big sis.

However, while talent might be genetic and/or generational, it’s not always a given no matter how gifted your family is. Solange’s son, Danieal Julez J. Smith Jr., seemingly proved as much recently when he posted a video to social media showing off his own music. Let’s just say… It didn’t go well. On Sunday, the 17-year-old, who goes by the stage name Julez, posted a snippet to TikTok in which he raps along to one of his songs in his studio. Here it is:

There are a few issues here, mainly that the beat seems to be a loose guideline for young Julez. The mix is something that can probably be addressed at a later date, but between Julez’s listless delivery and generic bars, fans on Twitter had plenty to say about how much work the young aspiring rapper will need to put into becoming a commercially viable artist in his own right. Maybe he can tap Uncle Jay-Z for help? (Considering the relationship between Jay and Solange, let’s drop that pin somewhere between “unlikely” and “impossible.”)

Fortunately for him, these are all correctable mistakes, and he’s only 17 — he’s got plenty of time (and now, plenty of … ahem… “constructive” criticism) to get started on fixing them. Besides, I used to work at a Boys & Girls Club recording studio and I’ve heard way worse from kids his age. Still, it’s probably going to be awkward when his little cousin Blue flexes her Grammy Award at the family reunion while giving him that signature side-eye of hers.

Fans Compare Halle Bailey To Solange After She Fiercely Defends Her Sister Chloe From An Online Troll

It’s natural that sister act Chloe X Halle draws comparisons to Beyonce since they’re signed to the pop queen’s management company Parkwood Entertainment. However, today, they’re drawing a different sort of comparison after younger sister Halle Bailey fiercely defended her older sister Chloe from a Twitter troll’s criticism, reminding fans of Beyonce’s own younger sister Solange’s staunch support of Beyonce.

Paying a backhanded compliment to the elder Bailey sister, the Twitter comment read, “I feel like Chloe Bailey is cute but y’all be overhyping shawty.” When Halle caught wind of the offending tweet, she responded sweetly, “Girl, let’s not start. Be blessed!! God loves you too!!!” And although the words — and the accompanying collection of angelic and shushing emojis — came across as “nice,” the Little Mermais star thinly veiled the implied threat behind them: Don’t start none, won’t be none. The offending tweet was apparently deleted and the original poster locked their account.

The banter instantly set fans buzzing, shooting “Halle” onto Twitter’s trending topics, and prompting fans to recall the bond between the Knowles sisters and Solange’s method of defending her sister. Of course, in that instance, rather than exchanging words with the offending party, Solange resolved to speak with her hands, resulting in the infamous elevator confrontation with Jay-Z and a half-dozen bars on the next three projects from Beyonce and Jay-Z.

Solange Is Dropping A Remastered Director’s Cut Of Her Artistic ‘When I Get Home’ Film

Solange’s latest album, When I Get Home, was a surprise release in 2019, and what fans also didn’t expect was the film that accompanied it. Now, the film has been given a new coat of paint in celebration of its two-year anniversary, as Solange is shared a remastered director’s cut of it via The Criterion Channel.

The Criterion Channel describes the film, “Accompanying her acclaimed 2019 album of the same name, the film taps imagery of her hometown’s (Houston, TX) culture with flights of surrealism spotlighting Black cowboys, space, futurist worlds, and ritualistic movements that characterize evolution as a recurring presence. Solange explores concepts of origin, fear, safety, and reclamation through the power of ancestral roots and the creation of one’s own kaleidoscopic universe.” It’s not clear how or if this version of When I Get Home differs from the director’s cut that was released in 2019 aside from having been remastered.

When Solange initially announced the album, she was feeling amped up, tweeting, “Y’all! I’m filled w so much joy right now!!! Wow! I can’t thank y’all enough for this moment and for all the feelings i feel in my body! I’m bringing home w me everywhere I go yalll and I ain’t running from sh*t no more. Your love lifts me up so high. Thank you!”
