Joe Budden Puts Kendrick Lamar In His Top 5 Of All Time, But There’s A Catch

Joe Budden says he’d put Kendrick Lamar in his list of the five best rappers of all time, but admits there’s several other names that could slot into the final spot. Speaking about the topic on his podcast, he explained that the top four spots are all locked in with 2Pac, JAY-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., and Nas, but the fifth place is where things get malleable.

“If he ain’t 5, he’s 5B, 5C, 5D,” Budden began. “For me, it’s ‘Pac, Hov– in no order. I’m just naming them. ‘Pac, Hov, Biggie, Nas, and after that everything can get tricky. I’m gonna choose to put a Kendrick there. If I didn’t put Kendrick there, I’m putting 3k there. If I don’t put 3k there, I’m putting Wayne there. There’s 10 names that, they beat the rest of y’all and Kendrick is there. There’s 10 names that, I don’t give a f*ck what rapper y’all name, these 10 win. The MCs know it, the entertainers know it. Them 10 did what the f*ck they had to do.”

Today In Hip Hop History: N.W.A. Dropped Their Second LP ‘Efil4zaggin’ 33 Years Ago

On this date in 1991, “the world’s most dangerous group dropped their second and final album as a group, ironically titled Efil4zaggin on the Ruthless/Priority imprint.

On the heels of Ice Cube departing from N.W.A. on a sour note to embark on a solo career, the now four-man group was slowly disbanding, but managed to churn out one last full length album. Dr. Dre and D.O.C. left the group to help form Death Row Records shortly after this project was released. The album offered up three singles; the memorable “Always Into Somethin”, “Appetite For Destruction”, which featured an Ice Cube sub and “The Days Of Wayback”. Because of the group’s success, the LP did eventually reach platinum status.

Salute to Dre, Yella, Ren and Eazy for giving us a piece of Hip Hop history!

5 Cringe Lyrics From J. Cole’s Verse On Cash Cobain’s “Grippy”

J Cole has a reputation for bringing elite rhymes and skilled guest vocals to other artists’ songs, with some features such as “Johnny P’s Caddy” going down in rap history books as the hardest in recent memory. Unfortunately, even J Cole can have a miss or two on his record, as evidenced by his feature on the recent Cash Cobain track “Grippy.” “Grippy” has been universally panned by critics and fans of J Cole alike, with most listeners lamenting the awkward delivery, poor mixing, and especially cringe lyrics as major lowlights. Let’s dive into a brief list of Cole’s worst bars on the track, and examine what makes the song so awkward. Without further ado, here are 5 of the most cringe J Cole lyrics on “Grippy.”

5. Cole Gives Hippie A Whole New Meaning

Rappers often utilize shoddy wordplay to force a rhyme into place or paint a visual image. Most times, fans are willing to accept these instances and move right along. That is, as long as the tone and delivery of the awkward bars are jovial, and don’t take themselves too seriously. On “Grippy,” this is not the case, as J Cole opens his verse with a painful comparison between the words “hip” and “hippie.” On the song, the Dreamville head honcho raps “Grippy, huh/ Grippy, I call her that ’cause it’s grippy/ She thick in the hips, she a hippie.” These lyrics are spoken with the comfortable vibrato of a man who didn’t just spend the last month getting torn apart by rap fans for apologizing to Kendrick Lamar, and serve as a really painful first post-beef outing.

4. The Sloppy Similes Keep Going

As fans of J Cole, we all wish the awkward bars on “Grippy” would have ended with the hippie punch line, but things only get worse from there. Cole goes on to deliver one of the worst similes of his entire career with the bars “With a kissy emoji, she miss me/ When she see me, she say she gon’ strip me/ She gon’ chew on this stick like it’s Wrigley’s.” In case you need those lyrics broken down, he’s referencing Wrigley’s chewing gum, in an allusion to a woman performing oral sex. It remains unclear, however, why J Cole thinks “chewing” is a term that belongs anywhere in the same universe as a bar about receiving oral, but that’s his personal business.

3. Cole Channels His Inner Ned Flanders

Without a doubt, the most heavily-memed bar on this record comes in the form of a borderline problematic lyric, in which J Cole raps “Mm, yеah, believe it or not likе Ripley’s/ She said she was gay until I slayed, now she strictly dickly.” Here J Cole suggests that he’s such a powerful performer in the bedroom that he could convince a lesbian to turn straight. This would be an awkward bar for any rapper to deliver at any point in their career, but it’s especially odd after Cole just faced backlash for some seemingly transphobic bars on his most recent release. Either way, fans have already started posting audio clips of this portion of the song alongside images of The Simpsons‘ Ned Flanders, as he delivers his classic lines like “Okilly dokilly.”

2. Graphic Sexual Depictions Make The Track Nauseating

Some rap songs are specifically designed to be added to a bedroom playlist. While there’s no way of knowing for sure if that was the intent that J Cole and Cash Cobain had in mind when they penned “Grippy,” it certainly seems like they weren’t shy about delivering graphic sexual imagery in their lyrics. As J Cole nears the merciful end of his cringe-inducing feature, he offers up the bars, “I gotta get you up out of them Vickies/ uh, like p**** so good, I just had an epiphany/ It’s grippy and wet, you know I’m a vet, but you makin’ me feel like a rookie/ How you make me tap out so swiftly?” Maybe in an alternate universe, somebody could consider these lyrics steamy, but currently, these bars are positively obnoxious.

1. The Verse Closes Out With An Awkward Refrain

Nearing the close of J Cole’s verse on “Grippy” forces the listener to look inward and ask themselves what exactly Cole meant the last few years while promising The Fall Off. If this awkward and cringe-worthy refrain is anything to go by, that title may serve as much more than just the name of a long-awaited album. Cole closes out his verse by crooning “Like, b****, I’ma send all your kids to Disney/ hmm, hmm I’ma pay a lil’ extra, make sure they meet Mickey/ hmm she a what? She a what, she a grippy/ huh she a what? She a what, she a grippy.” Needless to say, this song has been getting a lot of attention from fans online, for all the wrong reasons. Even J Cole’s most die-hard supporters are finding it impossible to defend his awkward bars on this latest verse.

Trae Tha Truth & A$AP Ferg Team Up For Hazy & Braggadocious Single “Rock Out”

Trae Tha Truth does not the credit he deserves for being a standout voice in the Southern hip-hop scene. With so many legends, especially from Houston (where he is from), his name does not get brought enough. He is not a hit song writer, but he is able to create these luxuriously smoky bangers with ease. That trademark style has taken him a long way, as he is now over 20 years deep into his career.

Recently, Trae Tha Truth dropped off a new single, “Rock Out”, which provides a hazy environment right from the jump. Joining him on this spacey cut is A$AP Ferg, or FERG. Surprisingly, this is the first time that we are hearing these veterans on the same record. Their approach to creating tracks is different. However, it is not to the point that sticking them on the same beat does not make sense at all.

Listen To “Rock Out” By Trae Tha Truth & A$AP Ferg

In fact, FERG brings an incredibly wavy performance on “Rock Out” which fits the vibe to a tee. His “Rooocckkk outtt” background vocals add so much extra character to the instrumental as well. Furthermore, his flow and cadence are incredibly playful and carefree. All in all, this song is a total banger, and it looks to be the lead single for Trae’s next record, Crowd Control. Fans can expect it to drop sometime this summer.

What are your thoughts on “Rock Out” by Trae Tha Truth and A$AP Ferg? Does this lead single get you hyped for Trae’s forthcoming album Crowd Control? What is your favorite aspect of it? Who had the more memorable performance and why? Are you surprised this is only their first song together? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Trae Tha Truth. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Jaylen Brown Wins Eastern Conference Finals MVP After All NBA Snub

After a hard-fought victory of 105-102 on Monday, the Boston Celtics triumphed over the Indiana Pacers, sweeping the Eastern Conference Finals in four games. Despite the challenges, Jaylen Brown’s exceptional performance earned him the series MVP title. Brown’s average of 29.8 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals per game throughout the series is a testament to his resilience. A day after being overlooked for All-NBA honors, he bounced back with a stunning forty points in Game 2. His game-tying three-pointer in Game 1 pushed the game into overtime, which the Celtics eventually won.

While Brown is often seen as Jayson Tatum’s second in command, the two shared the spotlight in this series. Tatum’s impressive average of 30.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 6.3 assists would have made him a strong contender for the Larry Bird Trophy on his own. Together, their combined efforts proved to be a formidable force that the Pacers and every other team in the playoffs struggled to overcome. Despite the distractions surrounding Brown, such as the controversy over his exclusion from the All-NBA teams and the Stephen A. Smith incident, the team’s unity and strength prevailed, leading to their victory.

Jaylen Brown Awarded Series MVP

The Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Pacers were all defeated by the Celtics in a total of 14 games thus, their route to the NBA Finals has often been rather steady. While Kristaps Porziņģis hasn’t played since the opening round, they also went up against teams with their best players injured. The Heat’s Jimmy Butler,  Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, Cleveland’s Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen were all hurt on this NBA Finals run. Luck is a big part of winning a championship. So far, the Celts have been pretty lucky to go along with some truly dominating play.

Porzingis coming back healthy for the Finals would bode well for Boston. Brown, Tatum, Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and Al Horford will all need to step up significantly if Porziņāis isn’t ready. The Celtics are presumed to take on the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavs feature two of the best late-game closers in the association, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. All in all, the NBA Finals will be incredible. Let’s see if Jaylen Brown can lead his team to a chip.
