DDG’s Top 5 Female Rappers Include Sexyy Red, She Reacts

The biggest names in female rap grow to be so successful partially due to controversy. Sexyy Red is evidence of this, as she’s had one of the biggest and fastest comeups we’ve seen amongst femcees in recent years. Because of how quickly she skyrocketed to fame, some can’t help but ponder if the St. Louis native is an industry plant. Nevertheless, she continues to rise to new heights, even after welcoming her second child just a few weeks ago. Red’s resume is seriously impressive already, but now, she can officially add “DDG’s Top 5” to her growing list of accolades.

The YouTuber is no stranger to trolling his haters and opps on Twitter, but on Wednesday (March 20), DDG made a point to praise his fellow new parent. “Sexyy Red Top 5 female rapper of all time,” he boldly declared, earning a retweet from the “SkeeYee” hitmaker herself. Rather than simply taking the compliment with confidence, the NSFW rhymer suggested that DDG might face some backlash for his post. “Dey not gon like you fa dis one 😂😂,” Red laughed while speculating.

DDG is a Big Fan of St. Louis’ Sexyy Red

“[On God], Salt-n-Pepa not f**kin [with you] 💯,” the “Elon Musk” artist promised his friend. Of course, not everyone agrees with DDG’s take, but it’s hard to deny how impressively she’s navigated through her rise to fame. Not only is she close friends with Drake and SZA, but she’s already nabbed a Nicki Minaj collaboration and has other artists fangirling all over the globe.

DDG’s fans have seen a noticeable change in his behaviour since stepping into his role as a father. Not only did the Pontiac native shoutout Sexyy Red for doing her thing in the rap game this week, but he also made sure his partner Halle Bailey was feeling the love with an award show at their home in her honour. Black Thought Reveals His Top Five Favorite MCs

During a recent interview with HipHopDX, Black Thought revealed a list of his top five favorite MCs. Aside from the list of artists, the Roots performer also shared a theory that each of them represents one of his “primary colors.” According to him, his list of favorite artists “has always revolved around [his] foundation,” so there’s a great deal of meaning behind it.

First up on his list is Kool G Rap, who he commends for his “expansive vocabulary and “the breadth of knowledge that he was able to incorporate into his storytelling.” According to Black Thought, his work is “timeless,” and he could listen to him on repeat “forever.” Next up is Big Daddy Kane, who he says he chose for “some of the same reasons.” He claims the artist “was far more stylistic than technical, or just as stylistic as he was technical,” dubbing him a “smooth operator.”

Kool G Rap, Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, And More Among Black Thought’s Top Five

That brought him to his third pick, Rakim. “What both Kane and G Rap, and also Rakim, brought to the table was a different cadence that we hadn’t heard before — that Shakespearean type ‘to be or not to be’ style … They all incorporated that Shakespearean thing, but in a different way,” he added. Proceeding with his list, Black Thought also named Chuck D of Public Enemy, who he praised for his activism and “brave” stylistic choices. Last up is LL Cool J, who he’s toured with over the year. “He was so influential to me as a young person because I saw myself in him; we were so close in age,” he described.

“LL was the royal chief rocker but he was 16 years old, and he moved like a seasoned veteran,” he also noted. “And that’s something that, even having toured with him this summer, is authentic. That’s just who he is. He’s a class act.” What do you think of Black Thought’s top five favorite MCs? Who’s in your top five? Rubi Rose’s Top 5 Artists Of All Time List Sparks Discussion

When it comes to music, we all have our personal preferences, and those preferences often extend to our favorite artists. Recently, Rubi Rose, the talented rapper and rising star in the hip-hop scene, shared her Top 5 Artists of All Time list on social media, setting off a wave of reactions and debate within the music community. Rubi Rose’s list includes some of the biggest names in the music industry, and she doesn’t hold back in her admiration for them. Her list reads as follows: “Top 5 alive- Drake, The Weeknd, Future, Slime, Frank Ocean.” While these artists have undoubtedly left a profound impact on the music landscape, Rubi’s choices did not go without scrutiny.

Social media lit up with reactions to her list, and it’s safe to say that not everyone agreed with her selections. Some critics argued that her list was missing essential names, most notably Kendrick Lamar. Fans of Kendrick Lamar, who has received critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base, expressed their surprise and disappointment that he didn’t make the cut. One Twitter user went so far as to declare, “Any list without J. Cole is invalid,” highlighting the omission of the North Carolina rapper, who has been a force in the industry for years. It’s clear that music enthusiasts have strong opinions when it comes to their favorite artists, and Rubi Rose’s list ignited a passionate discussion.

Happy Heavenly Birthday To Late Hip Hop Icon Tupac Shakur! Top 5 ‘Pac Predictions

jet set tupac restaurant promote

Today, June 16, Icon Tupac Shakur would have turned 50 and even in his untimely death, he is still regarded as one of the most influential MC’s of our time

2Pac’s devoted followers look upon him as somewhat of a prophet due to his ability to remain relevant with the times long after his demise. In his music, he almost predicted events that took effect after his presence was no longer with us. In celebration of his 50th birthday, TheSource.com presents our favorite Top 5 Tupac Predictions:

Prediction #1: “Only The Good Die Young”

It was more than a tragedy/ Emotions be grabbin’ me/ Plane fell from the sky/ We tryin’ to figure what happened/ Burnin’ churches, fearin’ God who can be so cruel?”

Prior to the 911 tragedies, Pac quoted these lyrics explaining the events of the time. Regardless of whether he predicted it knowingly, the World Trade Center was indeed attacked by planes and churches are still being burned even in this era.

Prediction #2: “Changes”

And although it seems heaven sent, we ain’t ready to see a Black president.”

President Obama wasn’t ready to be in the White House when ‘Pac made the song “Changes,” but since then, this prediction has come to pass. The lyrics of this particular song are relevant even now, as he goes into the condition of Black people in America and the struggles still being faced today.

Prediction #3: “God Bless The Dead”

Rest in peace to my muthafucka Biggie Smalls…”

The erie taunt by 2Pac before either he or Big was murdered may have been one of the misfortunate misinterpretations regarding the beef that caused their demise since it wasn’t about Notorious Big or was it?

Prediction #4: “Niggaz Done Changed”

I’ve been shot and murdered, can’t tell you how it
happened word for word / but best believe that niggaz’ gonna get what they deserve.”

‘The bars from “Niggaz Done Changed” are just one example of the many times Pac predicted his untimely death.

Prediction #5: “Keep Ya Head Up”

I think it’s time to kill for our women/ Time to heal our women, be real to our women/ And if we don’t we’ll have a race of babies that will hate the ladies that make the babies.”

In “Keep Ya Head Up” Pac was talking to the women of the time and gave his prediction of what would occur if the men don’t support them. Unfortunately, his prediction was correct regarding the current generation.

DJ Drama’s Team Denies Paying $120K To Get Stolen Chains Returned

DJ Drama’s visit to Toronto didn’t end smoothly, apparently. Three men in masks took to Instagram over the weekend to reveal that they stole the Gangsta Grillz DJ’s chain during his visit to the 6ix. Along with shouting out Drake, who Drama’s had issues with in the past, the three individuals seemingly confirmed their alliance with incarcerated Toronto rapper Top 5’s GGG crew. “This is — that’s what you f**kin’ get for not checkin’ in!” one masked robber says holding up the chains. “Shout out boy, Drizzy, eh? Triple G’s, you know how we rock!”

Ultimately, Top 5 chimed in on the matter, seemingly confirming that he was the one responsible for Drama’s chain getting snatched. “For all you that don’t post my music, and don’t play my music 2023 your chains are getting snatched,” Top5 wrote. “@djdrama come get ur chain back lil boy. Eventually, he alleged that DJ Drama put up $120,000 for his chain to get returned. “120K for the chain back that’s a good deal,” he wrote.

DJ Drama’s Camp Reacts

DJ Drama’s crew finally responded to the allegations after days of headlines. While the Generation Now co-founder hasn’t chimed in yet, the label’s official Instagram page slid into the comment section of Akademiks’ post with a cap emoji. Then, the other co-founder of Generation Now, Leighton “Lakeshow” Morrison chuckled at the rumors of Drama having to pay for his chain. “Lololololololol,” he wrote. It seems as though Drama isn’t actually willing to pay the fee, after all.

At this point, the details surrounding the incident involving DJ Drama remain unclear. However, there have been a number of people who came forward with alleged details surrounding the altercation. Apparently, Drama got jumped following his performance at Century Nightclub on King Street. However, one tweet alleged that he got attacked inside of the venue. At this point, no footage of the altercation has emerged and DJ Drama hasn’t necessarily acknowledged Top5’s claims. We’ll keep you posted on anymore developments surrounding DJ Drama and Top 5. Check out the comments above and let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

Happy Birthday To Super Producer Timbaland! Top 5 Timbaland Smash Hits

Screen Shot 2023 03 10 at 8.03.22 AM

When the phrase ‘super producer’ is uttered, not many names come to mind. Names like: RZA, Dr. Dre, DJ Premier, Pete Rock, The Neptunes, Jermaine Dupri, and Kanye West are among the high ranks that have earned the title. Today however, we celebrate the birth of one who help to shape the scope of both Hip Hop and R&B in the late 90s and early 2000s. Timothy Zachery Mosley a.k.a. Timbaland was born on this day [March 10] 49 years ago.

Timbaland is responsible in large part for the success of artists like Missy Elliot, Aaliyah and Ginuwine. Timbaland helped shape a Hip Hop culture in his home state of Virginia and through his production and organization of local artists. He has even crossed over into pop, working with acts like Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado, to create a sound and culture that helped bridge the pop culture gap to allow for more and more trans-genre collaboration.

In honor of Timbaland’s born day, here’s a list of some of his hottest and most influential tracks that have left a permanent mark on Hip Hop and R&B music and culture.

Aaliyah – “One In A Million”

“Pony” was actually Ginuwine’s debut single and peaked at #1 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop chart and #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song kept it’s spot on the Hot R&B chart for two weeks.

Missy Elliot – “Supa Dupa Fly”

Justin Timberlake – “Sexy Back”

“Sexy Back” is the name of one of Justin Timberlake’s most successful and well known solo records. Hitting the #1 spot in a plethora of countries, this song has gone platinum a few times over in this country and across the globe.

Melle Mel’s Eminem Comments: Twitter Reacts

Twitter lit on fire after Melle Mel said that Eminem’s only considered a top five rapper because he’s white. “Obviously, he’s a capable rapper. If we was talkin’ about sales, he sold more than everybody, if you talkin’ about rhyme style, okay, he got a rhyme style. But he’s white! He’s white!” said Mel. “So now, if Eminem was just another n***a like all the rest of us, would he be Top 5 on that list? When a n***a that can rhyme just as good as him is [No.] 35? That had records and all that. He’s 35. He’s white.”

After Mel made these comments, people took to social media to vehemently disagree or dig at Marshall even further. Also, some took the Furious Five member’s lead on what things might look like if other rappers were white. “And the point is this: if I was white, n***a, I’d be greater than [Elvis Presley]. N***a be like, ‘Melle Mel is greater than Elvis. Melle Mel is the greatest white man that has ever lived. He came up with a culture, he was a part of a culture that changed the whole world. That is a great ass white man right there.’ But I’m not white. I’m one of the n***as.”

Twitter Reacts To Melle Mel Saying Eminem Is Only Top 5 Because He’s White

“So, you know, anybody can be as mad as they want,” he continued. “They can feel how they wanna feel. If you don’t think that race plays a part in the equation in how great he is—I heard one of the dudes that’s down with him, [Royce Da 5’9”], I heard he’s just as good as Eminem. Why ain’t he as big as Eminem? Because he’s Black! None of that s**t [is] hard to figure out!”

Regardless of your take on Mel’s assessment, it does open an age-old interesting conversation on how race is a factor in these conversations. As one of the most successful artists in a Black-rooted art form, the “Lose Yourself” star is not in an easy position. However, one thing that Twitter reacts confirmed in this situation is that it’s not as black-and-white as some might assume. Check out Twitter’s reactions to Melle Mel’s view of Eminem and return to HNHH for the latest on hip-hop’s legends.

Ab-Soul Calls His Latest Album, “HERBERT” Top 5 Of The Year

As 2022 quickly comes to a close, fans and artists alike are continuing to share their favorite music of the year.

Ab-Soul’s latest offering, HERBERT, has only been out for a couple of weeks. Regardless, the L.A. native thinks it’s a top-five album of the year.

He took to his Twitter account on Friday (December 30) to share his thoughts on his own fifth studio album. “ALSO. My album IS top 5 of da year. F*cc all dat humble sh*t. Dead homies,” he writes in his remark. Evidently, being humble isn’t in the “Illuminate” rapper’s New Year’s resolutions. However, the argument is definitely a fair one, as the album has garnered a positive reception.

The project serves as the TDE rapper’s first album in six years, following 2016’s Do What Thou Wilt. Throughout HERBERT‘s 18-song tracklist, the 35-year-old explicitly addresses the state of his mental health and his battles with depression.

As part of the rollout for the album, Ab-Soul sat down with Charlamagne Tha God for an intimate interview. During the pair’s talk, which lasted for over an hour, Soulo opens up about a suicide attempt.

“I pretty much finished the album before I did what I did. I jumped off a freeway overpass, man. It was about 50 feet. I think a car broke my fall. [I] walked from my mom’s house to the bridge and jumped off on the freeway overpass. Imagine, like, you’re walking and you blink and then you’re further. You blink and then you’re further, you blink and then I’m on a fence,” he details.

“My jaw is f*cked up. I got a lotta work to do still. I’m about 85% on my foot. My foot is completely reconstructed, all the way to my pelvis, my femur, everything, was affected except my knee. If my knee would’ve been affected, I might not be walking,” he says after stating that he wasn’t in control while it was happening.

HERBERT boasts features from the likes of Joey Bada$$, Jhené Aiko, Russ, Big Sean and others. Furthermore, it evidently showcases Soul getting deeply introspective.

Considering it was released so late into the year, it will certainly be interesting to see how many year-end lists it makes its way onto.

What are your thoughts on HERBERT? Is it cracking your year-end list? Comment down below. Finally, make sure to stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest updates in music and pop culture.

Beyoncé, Kate Bush, And 2022’s Other Best Music Moments Get Broken Down In A New Top 5 Video

We’re at the point in the year where it’s not quite done yet, but done enough to start looking back on everything that happened. That’s especially true of music, as year-end list season is in full swing (Uproxx recently ran our top albums and songs of the year lists, for example). 2022 was busy, but in a new “Top 5” video, host Jackie Powell condenses the past few months into five key moments.

She begins with one of the year’s biggest album releases: Beyoncé’s Renaissance. The comeback project was Queen Bey’s first album since 2016’s iconic Lemonade and the follow-up has earned similar acclaim. Both the album and lead single “Break My Soul” spent some time at No. 1 on their respective Billboard charts, and zooming out, the project added a new dimension to Beyoncé’s already complex and beautiful legacy.

One of 2022’s other most notable figures was Kate Bush, who had an unexpectedly prosperous year thanks to Stranger Things making her 1985 single “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” one of the year’s biggest songs. It topped Billboard‘s global chart, artists like Coldplay covered it, and it got Bush some hefty checks. Bush herself couldn’t really believe the tune’s resurgence, but stranger things have happened.

As for what else the “Top 5” video covers, you’ll have to watch above to find out.
