Money Man Is Feeling “Influential”

Money Man’s Whale Games is one of our recommendations from this New Music Friday, but if you don’t have time to check out the entire 5-track EP (or simply need some convincing), we suggest you start with “Influential,” which finds the New York native flexing his status and influence to listeners.

“I can’t lie, I’m influential / Might get ticked, I’m temperamental / Had them youngins, come and flip them / F*ck these hoes, ain’t sentimental,” he raps as the song begins, later answering the question of “How you make it this far?” with “I had to pray a lot.”

Other titles on Whale Games – all of which are conquered by Money alone – are “Plenty,” “Misbehave,” “Presale,” and “Air Holes.” All of the songs are under two and a half minutes long, making the EP a quick and easy stream.

Previously this year, we heard from the Black Circle hitmaker on singles like “Paint Chipping,” “Schizo,” and “Hustling & Scamming.”

Are you a fan of Money Man’s “Influential”? Let us know in the comments.

Quotable Lyrics:

I can’t lie, I’m influential

Might get ticked, I’m temperamental

Had them youngins, come and flip them

Pusha T Says Dissing Drake On “It’s Almost Dry” Would’ve “Washed” The Album

Pusha T’s It’s Almost Dry has continued to do numbers over the last week as its creator gives more and more insight into his creative process in interviews all across the country. Most recently, the 44-year-old sat down with Power 106 Los Angeles to discuss the record, focusing particularly on why he avoided bringing any past beef into his lyrics.

“I’ma be honest with you… Listen, you know I be centred around drama… Whether it be the Drake stuff or whatever, it’s whatever with me,” Push told hosts. “Like, I don’t run from it, I don’t hide from it. Whatever. I specifically didn’t put that energy on this album, because it’s like, the album was going so good and that was such a dated thing to me. That was 2018!” he went on, specifically addressing his and Drizzy’s feud.

Speaking on “The Story of Adidon,” the New York native said, “I did what I did, I really did it. I did everything I did, and I really stood on it… On the album, I was like, ‘I’m not going back in time.’ This ain’t, like… It would sort of make me kinda washed, to me.”

As Complex notes, Pusha said going through with a Drake diss would be “corny,” also pointing out that he wouldn’t want to waste a project with “two [of the] probably best producers in hip-hop right now,” Pharrell Williams and Kanye West, on something as petty as what happened in 2018.

Elsewhere in the interview, the father of one got candid about his relationship with another rapper – J. Cole – who he name-dropped on “Call My Bluff,” revealing he wished his fan base was more like the Dreamville leaders at times. “When I’ve been on the road with him… The energy surrounding those places was always so good and inviting,” Push shared.

“They’re really like there to praise their guy. When I go out, they love the music they love the music, but they also still trying to flex.”

In other news, Pusha T also recently explained why he opted out of working with Madlib on It’s Almost Dryread more about that here, and tap back in with HNHH later for more hip-hop news updates.

Travis Scott’s Team Refutes Astroworld Documentary As ‘Propaganda Piece’ And A ‘Farce’

Travis Scott has been trying to rebuild his reputation after the tragic events at his Astroworld festival in Houston left ten dead and countless others injured. After recently attempting to launch Project HEAL, which was dismissed as a stunt, Scott has been mostly quiet as of late, except to let Coachella know his feelings about being rescinded from the lineup, via some billboards promoting his upcoming Utopia project.

But news broke this week of a documentary by a filmmaker who thought naming the clip Concert Crush: The Travis Scott Festival Tragedy was a good idea. That filmmaker, named Charlie Minn, did an interview with Page Six claiming Scott is a “criminal” and because of the presence of an ambulance and Travis stopping when he saw people passed out, the rapper should’ve known people had died.

Minn has said his piece, and now Scott’s team has fired back, giving comment to TMZ about Minn’s “propaganda piece.” Here’s further quote given to TMZ, that the film is a “farce financed by and containing content from members of the plaintiff’s legal teams, who, weeks after a tragedy, sought to exploit and benefit financially from it, with the clear goals of making money and swaying future juries and public opinion.”

Further quotes: “It’s a profit play and a publicity stunt, with no support from the film industry, no distribution, and from a director with no respect from his field who has been termed a “trauma pornographer.”

An attorney who is representing several of the plaintiffs from Astroworld in their lawsuits is a producer of the film, which does seem a little strange, and a few plaintiffs decided to be featured in the clip. The film started airing in Texas today. Check out a trailer below.

Megan Thee Stallion Is Working With Netflix On A Comedy Series Loosely Based On Her Life

The Netflix Is A Joke comedy festival is gearing up to launch their ten-day event, and even though massive layoffs in their editorial departments this week might put a damper on the fest, it is still continuing as planned. The massive streamer is well-known, at this point, for launching its own original content, and the platform’s head of comedy, Tracey Pakosta, gave an extensive interview with Deadline about future plans in advance of this year’s festival. Though Pakosta has lots to say in the lengthy feature, what might be most interesting for rap fans is a tidbit about the streamer’s current deal with Megan Thee Stallion, which includes a first look clause.

According to Pakosta, Megan came into meetings with Netflix with a concept already in place. “It’s very early stages,” Pakosta cautioned, before letting fans know the scoop anyway: “She came in and she pitched something loosely based on her life growing up, and we got very excited about it. We think she’s special.” Based on what we know about what Megan has already gone through in her life, losing her mom right when her rap career was blowing up, a little humor injected into the story will be necessary. But there’s almost no one funnier than the “Plan B” rapper at the moment, and she could easily carry a series. And maybe Netflix could hire back some of those writers to help work on it? Just a thought.

Khalid Gears Up For Summer 2022 With New Single, “Skyline”

Good news for Khalid fans – the 24-year-old’s third studio album is due out later this year, and we’ve officially received the first single from the unnamed project, titled “Skyline” – an upbeat, dreamy retro pop tune that was produced by Chrome Sparks.

“‘Skyline’ to me is a recharge and full of summer vibes. I hope it brings my fans joy and gets them through any dark times they may be going through,” the “Another Sad Love Song” hitmaker said of his latest single in a press release.

The three-minute-long song also received a music video, which was directed by Levi Turner and Cody LaPlant and transports viewers “outside to a blissful summer day,” where two worlds of style and aesthetic merge into one with a dance party breaking out as our singer floats through the air in a limited edition GT-R Skyline.

“It’s a Wednesday night and we’re running out of time / Won’t you take my hand, hop into my skyline?” the Georgia native asks on the chorus. Check out the track below, and let us know what your thoughts are in the comment section.

Quotable Lyrics:

It’s a Wednesday night and we’re running out of time
Won’t you take my hand, hop into my skyline?
It’s only just a rebuild, but I swear it feels real
When you take my hand in my passenger side

Drake’s Better World Fragrance House Candles To Debut At Shoppers Drug Mart Across Canada

Drake is bringing some “Sweeter Tings” to his Canadian fans, just in time for Mother’s Day. Earlier this week it was revealed that the Scorpion rapper will be teaming up with Shoppers Drug Mart to supply 200 stores across the country with his famous Better World Fragrance House candles.

Five signature scents will be available for a limited time, including Carby Musk, which is said to have been “constructed unlike any other fragrance,” featuring Trail Air technology which allows for the scent to linger in the air longer. “The layering of sweet, velvet powdery musks along with musks of soft floral, amber and marine connotations make it incredibly unique and a must have,” a press release explains.

Other scents that will be available for purchase include Sweeter Tings, “a nostalgic and addictive fragrance with subtleties of comfort and goodness,” Williamsburg Sleepover (a floral woody musk), Muskoka, which is also woody, though more oriental in nature, and finally, Good Thoughts, “a bouquet of rich florals surrounded by bright vibrant freshness for a captivating positive scent.”

In a statement, DreamCrew’s Chief Brand Officer Matte Babel said, “Drake and I are both excited and honoured that Better World Fragrance House is now available where we shopped as kids. It’s a full-circle moment that makes for the perfect retail partner.”

Candles on the Better World Fragrance House website range in price from $103.48 CAD for more technologically advanced selections like Carby Mask to $62.09 CAD for other options. It remains unclear how much they’ll be priced in-store, but we’ll find out shortly, as they’re available tomorrow, April 30th.
