Rappers trying their hands at film and television is nothing new. Sometimes this comes in the way of acting roles and other times it’s more of a behind-the-scenes presence. That’s where Nas comes in as he’s just begun the development process for a new TV show. The series is reportedly going to tell the story of the first-ever black grandmaster in chess Maurice Ashley. Deadline reports it’s due for an eight-episode first season. But he isn’t working on the show alone and one of the collaborators he recruited has experience in the space between rap and television.
Nas is teaming up with Mark Canton, who has served as a producer on 50 Cent’s show Power and some of its spin-offs. In discussions about the collaboration the rapper seemed pretty excited at the potential. “I’m grateful to be part of bringing Maurice Ashley’s incredible life to the screen. His story is one of greatness and his perseverance will continue to inspire the next generation of thinkers,” he said. Ashley himself also spoke out about the project. He expressed his thanks for those fighting to make sure his story is told and the importance he feels it conveys.
Nas Working On A New TV Show About First Black Grandmaster In Chess
Last month, Nas was announced as one of the headliners of this year’s Roots Picnic. He’s one of numerous talented veterans taking the stage during the festival. Fellow headliners include Lil Wayne and Andre 3000. Despite the stacked lineup, much of the discussion of the festival after the lineup dropped was about someone else. Some fans took issue with Sexyy Red’s inclusion in the festival despite her massive breakout 2023.
Last year Nas released two new albums Magic 2 and Magic 3. The projects concluded his series of collaborations with producer Hit-Boy. What do you think of Nas working with one of the producers on “Power” to make a show about the first black grandmaster in chess? Do you think you’ll watch the show when it comes out? Let us know in the comment section below.
One of the best rappers of the 2000s is developing a TV show based on his career beginnings, and it’s looking good so far. Moreover, Ludacris officially teased a series based on his origins as a radio DJ in the business, back when he went by Chris Lova Lova. His social media announcement followed a new article from The Hollywood Reporter about the project’s early stages published Monday (January 22). “Inspired By My Real Life Journey Coming Up In The Competitive Music Scene In Atlanta as Radio Personality Chris Lova Lova,” the Word Of Mouf rapper wrote on Instagram. “Stay tuned.”
Furthermore, reports indicate that the TV show -– which is untitled as of writing this article -– will be a half-hour-per-episode dramedy for Paramount’s BET Plus streaming service. Not only that, but Insecure co-creator and The Bernie Mac Show creator Larry Wilmore also joined as executive producer alongside Ludacris. BET Plus shared that the series is about “the misadventures of a sharply drawn ensemble who are willing to do anything and everything to bolster ratings at their hip-hop radio station.” Noah Gardenswartz, one of the writers behind the acclaimed Amazon Prime Video show The Marvelous Ms. Maisel, reportedly hopped on this show’s production to write the script.
Of course, this is not the Atlanta MC’s only recent entertainment venture that excited his fans with more opportunities to show off his artistry. For example, he will judge Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow‘s second season alongside DJ Khaled and Latto. In addition, Eminem will reportedly appear as a special guest judge, whose input should be as interesting and creatively motivated as Ludacris. Last season, the show welcomed Chance The Rapper, Cardi B, and T.I. as its judges.
Meanwhile, you may be more familar with Luda these days thanks to his feud with Katt Williams. That certainly kicked off 2024 with a bizarre and unexpected beef, one that we’re not sure how it will develop over time. We’ll have to wait and see, but at least we have these new ventures to look forward to. For more news and the latest updates on Ludacris, keep checking in with HNHH.

Saweetie has teased an upcoming role in a “really big TV show” but has refused to say what show she will be appearing on. “Before the writers’ strike, I actually filmed with a really big TV show, so I’m really excited for whenever they decide to release it. I know it’s going to be a huge moment. They stripped me down: no lashes, barely any makeup, I had this wig on! They were like, “No lashes, take ‘em off!” And you know, I’m a lash girl, so I’m just like, “All right, cool. Let’s get into this acting bag, what’s up?!,” the singer told Billboard.
While she refused to name the show, she did give a hint with some of her lyrics. “I’m going to give you one of my lyrics: “Cocaina tiptoes/ Ride it like the whip stole/ Benjis in my bra when my titties need a lift though.” The answer’s in there!,” she teased the outlet. Previously, the singer has made appearances on Grown-ish and Bel-Air. What show do you think Saweetie will be appearing on? Let us know in the comments.
Saweetie Joins Megan The Stallion In Following The Acting Bug
However, Saweetie is not the only songstress getting into acting. Megan Thee Stallion is taking her talents to Netflix’s popular animated comedy, Big Mouth. Megan was announced in a 48-second short dedicated to both her character and the Season 7 date reveal. She will play a caked-up hormone monster ready to cause trouble for the already embattled eighth-graders. While the show has proven divisive, Megan joins what is one of the most stacked casts on TV right now. Big Mouth already features Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Jessi Klein, Jason Mantzoukas, and Ayo Edebiri.
However, Big Mouth is far from Megan’s only project in the works. She has a leading role in Dicks: The Musical, A24’s upcoming musical comedy. Furthermore, she is also reportedly in negotiations for a role in an upcoming project from the Safdie Brothers and Adam Sandler. While the nature of the project is unclear, the Safdies last directed Sandler in Uncut Gems.
Besides 50 Cent’s widely successful music career, he also is a great actor as well. The 48-year-old rap mogul has been a part of quite a few productions during his time in the TV and movie business. Recently, he played the role of Easy Day in the fourth installment of the Expendablesfilm franchise. However, his most notable efforts have been on the silver screen. 50’s STARZ series Power received some solid praise from casuals and critics on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb. That chapter closed but a few more have opened and DaBaby wants in on it.
After the final season of Powerin 2020, the New York icon created some spin-offs since then. It gets a little confusing with the titles and the seasons, but he is continuing to develop more stories from it. There have been three new additions to the franchise. Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and Power Book IV: Force have all been released in a short period of time. A new season of the third book will be premiering on December 1. Fellow NY rapper Joey Bada$$ has already played a character in the show, so why not DaBaby?
In the IG post from theneighborhoodtalk, they reshare a clip from 50’s account hyping up fans for the new season of Book III. His acting is very cold-blooded and menacing and DaBaby saw the video. He proceeded to comment under it saying, “I gotta play a role on the screen wit you before it’s all over bruh.” He has never acted before, but, he has directed plenty of music videos in his career and it could be a cool moment. Fans are seemingly in agreement, with one saying, “Yes ! Da baby looks like he can play a tough role well ! He already theatrical & creative asf.”
What are your initial thoughts on DaBaby commenting under 50 Cent’s Instagram post that he wants to act with him? Do you think he could be a good actor? Kevin Hart has been hosting his stellar sports comedy talk show, Cold as Balls for just about six years now. It has been a hit with many as it seamlessly blends the two industries for an entertaining but also interesting look at the world of sports. Hart has sat down extensively with many different athletes and sports media figures. Skip Bayless, DK Metcalf, Allen Iverson, and so many other legends in the space. In his most recent episode, be brought on Boston Celtics superstar small forward, Jayson Tatum, to cool off in the ice bath with him.
If you have some basic knowledge of Kevin Hart, you know that he is from the historic city of Philadelphia. He is a die-hard Philly sports fan and he has repped his 76ers and Eagles a lot on other sports talk shows. The comedian has had plenty to celebrate and be proud of as both franchises are constantly reaching their respective postseasons. The Eagles even won the Super Bowl back in 2018 and appeared in the big game just last season, where they fell short to the Kansas City Chiefs. One of the big rivals to Philly sports teams is Boston, which is where Jayson happens to play.
Because of this, the basketball star thought it would be funny to tease the host by having him try on a Celtics jersey. However, it was not just any jersey, it was Tatum’s son Deuce’s custom paraphernalia. He is just five years old, but due to Kevin’s short stature, Tatum thought it would fit him. The comedian made a hilarious comment before trying it on, “Is this like a 2T?” The NBA player could not help but laugh and what made it funnier was him raising Kevin’s hand as parents do when they are dressing their young kids. He also teased the actor by saying, “I know how much you love the Celtics.” The show never disappoints as it always brings the laughs, but also a cool look at different sports figure’s careers.
What are your initial thoughts on Jayson Tatum gifting Kevin Hart his son’s custom Celtics jersey? Do you think Kevin will always be clowned for being small and short? Do you watch Kevin Hart’s Cold as Balls? We want to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news around Kevin Hart, Jayson Tatum, and the rest of the sports world.
Girlfriends, the beloved sitcom TV show, premiered 23 years ago, in 2000. The show primarily revolved around the lives of four African American women living in Los Angeles. It blends humor and drama but never shied away from tackling serious topics like racism, infidelity, racial identity, and gender discrimination. All the while, the series kept the comedic moments coming, through witty dialogues and relatable situations. Girlfriends was particularly notable for portraying African American women in leading roles.
Overall, the Girlfriends TV show remains a cultural phenomenon and is highly reminiscent of the iconic series, LivingSingle. Despite being canceled after eight seasons in 2008, it remains a memorable part of 2000s television. It’s been 15 years since the show’s untimely end, and the stars have since moved on to other things. Besides the main cast’s reunion on the Black-ish episode “Feminisn’t,” here’s what the case of Girlfriends has been up to.
Joan is a successful lawyer and the show’s central character. Tracee Ellis Ross was remarkably hilarious and unforgettable in her portrayal of this character. It is undoubtedly one of the actress’s most iconic roles, and arguably her most popular. Her portrayal of Joan Clayton earned her two NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series and a BET Comedy Award nomination.
Since leaving the show in 2008, Ross has taken on several film and television roles. Her most notable role since Joan Clayton from the Girlfriends TV show is portraying Dr. Rainbow “Bow” Johnson, a main character from Kenya Barris’ hit comedy show Black-ish(2014-2022). Ross is set to appear in two 2023 films currently in post-production: American Fiction, and Candy Cane Lane. They will be released in November and December, respectively.
Golden Brooks plays Maya Wilkes, one of the four best friends and central characters on the Girlfriends TV show. Maya is the youngest of the lot and a working-class mother of one. Brooks is convincing in her portrayal of Maya throughout the show’s eight seasons. Although she didn’t win any major awards, she certainly deserves her flowers for her unforgettable performance. Her character’s smart mouth and snarky one-liners quickly made her a fan favorite. Her acting credits since wrapping up with Girlfriends in 2008 include several film and TV roles. She has appeared in the films A Beautiful Soul (2012), The Darkest Minds (2018), and Block Party (2022) among others. She currently stars in the Disney coming-of-age comedy series Saturday as a member of the main cast.

She has had brief appearances on television since but remains active on social media. White has been married to her TVD co-star, Joseph Morgan, since 2014.
Jill Marie Jones (Antoinette “Toni” Marie Childs-Garrett)
The fabulous Toni Childs is Joan’s oldest friend, and one of the four main female characters on the show. She is portrayed by Jill Marie Jones, who was a main cast member for its first six seasons. Jones’ portrayal of Toni’s character contributed to the success of the show, and brought her national and international popularity.

The actor, screenwriter, and director has kept busy since finishing Girlfriends. He currently has a recurring role on the acclaimed comedy, Abbott Elementary.
Khalil Kain (Darnell Leroy Wilkes)
Khalil Kain took over the role of Darnell Leroy Wilkes from Flex Alexander who portrayed the character in season one. Kain played Darnell from the show’s second season until its eighth and final, becoming an integral part of the show. Darnell is Maya’s husband, with an on-and-off friendship with the other ladies in the group. Kain received praise for his depiction of the character. Furthermore, he was praised for his comedic moments, despite having a history of more dramatic roles. B
efore appearing in the TV show Girlfriends, Kain was widely known for his lauded role in the Hip Hop classic film, Juice. He has also stayed on-screen since the end of the Girlfriends TV show in 2008. His film and TV credits include For Colored Girls (2010), CSI: Miami (2009), and Bronx SIU (2019) among others.
Keesha Sharp joined the show in its third season as a recurring character. Monica Brooks-Dent, whom Sharp portrays, remained a recurring character until seasons seven and eight when Sharp joined the main cast. Monica is William Dent’s wife, and is sorely disliked by the ladies in the friend group at first, but they warm up to her later.
Since the Girlfriends TV show wrapped up in 2018, Keesha Sharp has gone on to build her resume. She has starred in many films and TV shows, and directing a couple others as well. She has starred in movies Marshall (2017) and Dark My Light (2022), as well as popular TV shows, Empire (2019-2020), and Power Book II: Ghost (2023) among others.
The Weeknd’s HBO series with “Euphoria” head Sam Levinson this year, “The Idol,” was certainly an event. It was far from a beloved, perfect, and praised one, but it was still one of the most dominant and divisive cultural conversations of 2023 so far. Amid criticisms of the show’s quality itself, its themes and graphic depictions of them, and reports on the series’ behind the scenes wrongdoing and chaos, there was a lot to unpack and pick apart with the story of Jocelyn and Tedros. Rumors already spread that HBO wouldn’t renew it for another run, bolstered by its conclusion that came an episode early. Now, we officially know that “The Idol” is over.
“‘The Idol’ was one of HBO’s most provocative original programs, and we’re pleased by the strong audience response,” a network representative reportedly stated to The Hollywood Reporter. “After much thought and consideration, HBO, as well as the creators and producers have decided not to move forward with a second season. We’re grateful to the creators, cast, and crew for their incredible work.” While this news isn’t exactly surprising, it’s also quite sad to see this potential go to waste, regardless of whether you liked it or not.
Furthermore, The Weeknd’s spoken out a lot about this negative reception to the show and defended their original vision for it, however misguided or poorly executed. “My goal was for people to feel that way when they watch it, you know, and that they’ll reassess (fame),” he told Variety in an interview. “It’s almost educational that this is what comes with being incredibly famous. You’re surrounded by people who you’re not sure what their true intentions are, even if it seems like they’re good. You just never know. I’ve been very fortunate to have people around me that I’ve known almost my entire life, which is important and is a gift.”
“I’m loving it,” the Canadian star told GQ of the divisive fan reception. “It’s definitely shaken up the culture for sure. We knew we were making something dark and controversial but true to what we want to say.” Let us know what you thought of “The Idol” and how you feel about its cancellation down in the comments below. Drake, the executive producer of the series, gave fans a sneak peek of what to expect in the upcoming third and final season. On Sunday (August 13), the Toronto native took to Instagram to share a dramatic teaser trailer for Top Boy‘s last season. “So how do you think we survived all this time?” the trailer begins. The highly acclaimed British crime drama returns this fall.
Because of its authentic portrayal of life in East London, the Netflix series grew a cult-like fanbase. It also has tackled issues like social justice, mental health, racism, and poverty. The rapper promises to leave “no loose ends” in the caption, as in the trailer. “No.Loose.Ends… Top Boy, The Final Chapter. September 7th,” he wrote.
Drake Became The Series’ Executive Producer In 2017
The TV series, which originally aired on Channel 4 in 2013, was canceled. However, after the rapper expressed his love for the show, he called for it to be revived and joined as an executive producer. Fans expressed their excitement for the potential revival in the comment section. “Peak story telling is back,” one person wrote. Others had different, more amusing ways of conveying their excitement: “time to annoy my wife with my fake british accent for a month.” Even Lil Yachty hopped in the comments to share his enthusiasm,” Finally,” he wrote.
On the other hand, while the rapper has reasons to celebrate, there is also bad news. Podcaster and alleged “industry plant” Bobbi Althoff and Drake have apparently severed their social media ties. It was recently reported that the pair unfollowed each other on Instagram. The Her Loss rapper appeared on her The Really Good Podcast a few weeks back. Certainly, this could definitely be a real feud brewing between the two, or it could just be a random falling out. Not only that, on YouTube, the only trace of the Drake interview on Bobbi’s channel is some “Shorts” that were released prior to the entire interview going live. Drake has had an unfollowing spree with other women in the past. Ice Spice is a prime example. The possibilities are truly endless.
For over twenty years, Big Brother has been captivating viewers and continues to do so. The show has gained a dedicated fan base due to its eccentric cast and memorable moments. However, in its latest season, a cast member crossed a line. 30-year-old Florida native Luke Valentine found himself in hot water after being caught on a live stream using the n-word while speaking to his other castmates.
Valentine immediately realized his mistake and tried to switch gears, but the damage was already done. He would later be removed from the house. The reality TV show’s producers, along with reps for CBS, spoke to TMZabout the incident. They also referred to the show’s zero-tolerance policy when it came to using racial slurs. “Luke violated the BIG BROTHER code of conduct, and there is zero tolerance in the house for using a racial slur. He has been removed from the house,” they said.
Big Brother Has A “Zero Tolerance” Policy For Using Racial Slurs
This is not the first time the show has been criticized for its portrayal of racism. Just last season, the first (and only so far) Black female Big Brother winner, Taylor Hale, faced constant abuse from her castmates. However, despite the onslaught of criticism she received in the house, she considers herself a “victor,” not a victim. “And if there is one word that is going to describe the season, it is resiliency. And if you were to ask yourself who was the most resilient person of the season, it was me,” she said as her former competitors prepared to make their big decision.
There are very few winners among the Black or POC castmates. Singer Tamar Braxton was the previous winner of the celebrity edition of the show. Braxton tweeted a congratulatory message to Hale on her win, writing, “Whew! But congrats.” She wasn’t the only one to lend support to Hale. Season 23 winner Xavier Prather also took to Twitter to offer some words of encouragement. “The treatment of Taylor in #BB24 is a prime example of why The Cookout was formed,” the Challenge: USA contestant tweeted in July 2022, referring to the all-Black alliance he helped build during his season.
