A few years ago, A Tribe Called Quest rapper Q-Tip shared some news that had fans on the edge of their seat. He promised that he was working on not one, but three new solo albums. Now it’s been a full 8 years since that record dropped and none of the previously announced albums have arrived yet.
But earlier this week Q-Tip celebrated his 54th birthday. While thanking fans for their well wishes on his big day, he revealed that he’s been keeping busy. “Love you guys and thanks for the wishes Music coming stay tuned” his first tweet reads. While that was exciting enough for fans, he had even more good news to deliver. When a fan asked if all three records were still on their way, Tip confirmed. “3 but some title changes on 1 of em. Tyler simply wrote, “Can someone let @janetjackson know I’m looking for her.” Not much else is known other than the picture accompanying the message. It points down to his colorful shoes and that is about it. Of course, the most enticing speculation of all is that it could be referring to a possible collaboration. Earlier this week, Usher announced the return of his nostalgia-packed festival, Lovers & Friends, bringing both excitement and confusion from fans of turn-of-the-millennium hip-hop and R&B. Both emotions were largely reactions to the same thing: The sheer number of artists listed on the flyer, from headliners Backstreet Boys, Janet Jackson, and Snoop Dogg to the one-hit-wonders hovering near the bottom of the list like Lumidee, J-Kwon, and Iyaz.
On one hand, there wer enough to justify the price of the ticket (and standing up for hours on end) for the millennials who came of age during the 2000s, but on the other, there are so many names, it’s hard to believe that they would all fit in just one day when the festival returns to Las Vegas Festival Grounds on May 4. However, that certainly seems to be what the organizers will attempt to do, as the festival’s flyer only advertises a one-day event.
For those last two iterations, it remained a one-day festival, with last year’s concert headlined by Missy Elliott, Mariah Carey, and Pitbull. So, it stands to reason that it will continue to be a one-day festival, but as the lineup continues to expand year after year, its fans would almost certainly love to see it expand once again to accommodate all those early-aughts favorites. Still, its detriment is how easily it can be used to stalk or keep tabs on people. Whether it be your latest crush or the celebrity you love to hate, the temptation is always there. The latest star to fall victim to the internet sleuths is Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles. She got caught liking a shady post targeted at Janet Jackson recently.
Users creeping through the Texas native’s likes saw that she seemingly agreed with another account unimpressed with Janet’s tour prices being similarly priced to her daughter’s. “You want Beyonce prices, have real production. Just disgusted. I’m not the only one… oh the DMs I’m getting. Way to thank your fans for years of support,” the message in question says. After hearing the internet’s theories about drama unfolding between Lawson and Jackson, the former got on Instagram to clear the air.
“I am saddened by this. Janet Jackson is an icon and I would never question another artist. I took Destiny’s Child to see Janet when they were 15 years old,” Queen B’s mom wrote. “They always looked up to her and she opened doors for Beyonce. Why would I hate on her? I know now not to be in a rush and to be very careful. (I learned my lesson)! Especially when I have so much going on. I just wanted to clarify. I do know that you can see people’s likes so I would be pretty [foolish] to do that .”
