Anderson .Paak Is Thrilled About Making The Hot 100 Chart For The First Time

Over the course of his career, Anderson .Paak has been gradually climbing his way up the Billboard charts. His four albums — Venice, Malibu, Oxnard, and Ventura — have performed progressively better on the Billboard 200: .Paak’s debut didn’t chart, then the other three records peaked respectively at Nos. 79, 11, and 4. This hasn’t translated to success on the Hot 100 chart for .Paak, though, as prior to this week, he never had a song appear on the chart.

That changed this week, however, thanks to his new supergroup with Bruno Mars, Silk Sonic. The band’s debut single, “Leave The Door Open,” debuted at No. 4 on the Hot 100 chart dated March 20. Getting on the Hot 100 is a major milestone, so naturally, .Paak is pretty excited.

.Paak shared an image of the top ten spots of the chart and wrote on Instagram, “Ima stretch this goose neck to The moooon!! All I can say is thank you!!!! To have a song like this debut in the hot 100 ( my first song to ever make it up there ) is truly amazing. It can’t happen without hard work and yalls support. Thanks for pushing everyone to greatness @brunomars and showing us new heights! I’ll never come down!! let’s keep rising! We love you for this!!! Y’all gonna have me faded all damn week!!”

Rich Brian Reflects On His Artistic Growth With The Bouncy ‘Sydney’

Although Rich Brian had some breakout singles in 2020, including his “Tokyo Drift” freestyle and the Guapdad 4000-featuring “Bali,” and released a seven-song EP, 1999, the Indonesian rapper has been relatively quiet over the past year, soaking up the success of his 2019 full-length, The Sailor.

Today, he released his first single of 2021, “Sydney.” Featuring a video-gamey, constantly evolving beat, the bouncy song finds Brian filling up the pages of his rhyme book with abstract, multi-syllabic thoughts about his growth as an artist. One fun example: “I show my love to legends, that’s why I like my own pictures.”

Speaking with Uproxx last year about his time social distancing during LA’s pandemic quarantine, Brian revealed how intentional his artistic growth has been. “I’ve been getting back to producing more,” he shared. “I’ve always produced and I started learning how to produce when I was like 16, 17. So, that’s always been a nice little skill to have just because it makes it easier for me to make songs and I don’t have to talk to people about what I want all the time. It just makes songwriting a lot better, and being able to learn arrangements and what these little languages are.”

“And it’s been a lot of different kinds of music,” he continued. “A lot of hip-hop stuff, then a lot of really melodic stuff, and that’s what comes out when I produce. I can’t really just do one thing because it gets really boring for me. So I try to switch it up.

Lil Baby Considers Adding A Female Artist To “On Me”

Atlanta’s own Lil Baby has proven to be in possession of the Midas Touch, turning the majority of material he touches to gold. So much so that last year’s My Turn, released a little over a year ago to this day, continues to rack up momentum on the charts. Now, with his sights set on creating a follow-up effort, Lil Baby has shifted his focus to some new material – – though that’s not to say he’s turned his back on his existing catalog, however.

In fact, Lil Baby appears ready to revisit his December 2020 single “On Me,” taking to social media to ponder the possibility of a remix. Specifically, a remix featuring the presence of an unidentified female artist. “On me remix with a female artist,” he writes, his use of the contemplative emoji suggesting that he has yet to choose his preferred participant. In the wake of his message, many fans proceeded to offer their own suggestions, with Mulatto and Nicki Minaj among the more requested options.

At this moment, Lil Baby has yet to offer anything further than the initial message, though don’t be surprised to see him spring into action sooner than later. And should a remix to “On Me” indeed be the next single to come from Lil Baby’s corner, which female artist would you be interested in seeing him connect with? Or would you rather he shift his focus to something else entirely? Sound off in the comments below.

Beyoncé Flexes Historical Grammy Wins In Dazzling Glitter Getup Alongside Jay-Z

At this point, Jay-Z and Beyoncé are the textbook definition of a power couple. While the Roc Nation CEO’s focus these days is on becoming the biggest mogul hip hop has ever seen, back when his focus was mainly on the music, Jay notched an impressive 23 Grammy Awards. He currently stands as the most awarded rapper, while his wife made history over the weekend at this year’s ceremony after earning her 28th Grammy, breaking the record as the most decorated woman ever. Bey showed off the new additions to her collection on Instagram, posing with her hubby for perhaps some of the hardest shots from the night.

The songstress shared ten exclusive shots from Grammy night (March 14) in a captionless photoset, in true Bey-style. The first photo is a couples shot of Jay and Bey striking power poses at the camera, their collective success practically oozing through the screen.

She added additional shots of her red carpet look, zooming in on the diamond accents she was draped in. She then posed in front of her four Grammys from the night, posing like Superwoman in front of the trophies. She attached more shots with Jay-Z and one embracing Megan thee Stallion. Scroll through the photos below.

Beyoncé won the Best Music Video, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best R&B Performance categories, pushing her total to 28.

Jay didn’t receive any nominations at this year’s event (except for writing credits on the “Savage (Remix)”, but instead attended the ceremony as the supportive husband of the powerhouse. Congrats to Bey again

Joey Bada$$ & Diddy Earn Oscar Nomination For “Two Distant Strangers”

Joey Bada$$ hasn’t released an album in a few years but he’s been busy working on other ventures, proving that he’s far more than an exceptional lyricist. The rapper’s been getting into his acting bag a bit more heavily, as well. He received praise for his appearance in Wu-Tang: The American Saga last year and his role as Carter in Two Distant Strangers has now earned him a nomination at the Academy Awards.

The Diddy-executive-produced short film, which stars the Brooklyn rapper, is now up for an Academy Award in the category of Best Live Action Short Film. The 28-minute short film was influenced by the protests of summer 2020 and follows the protagonist Carter James who tries to head back to his place after a night at his girlfriend’s. However, his encounter with the police turns out to be violent, and ends up getting replayed over-and-over again.

Joey Bada$$ took to Twitter where he celebrated the win, writing, “I’m officially Oscar-nominated. That’s crazy. #TwoDistantStrangers.” Adding, “Imma be A FUCKING EGOT.”

“We are thrilled and honored to be nominated by the @theacademy for Best Live Action Short! Our film, despite the hard nature of the subject sparked by the tragic events of last summer, is meant to be one of hope, optimism and determination,” reads a post on the film’s official IG account.
