Last year, Saweetie and YG spent a few months as one of the most noteworthy new couples in rap. The pair were repeatedly spotted stepping outside for nights on the town in stunning fits together. They collaborated on music and were even planning on touring together alongside Tyga, though it was additionally canceled. Rumor has it that the cause of the tour being canceled was low ticket sales and the bad news for the pair kept coming.
Earlier this year the two officially called it quits. In their statement announcing the breakup they were both very cordial seeming to agree that they wanted to continue being friends but things were better separate. That professionalism started to seep into drama almost immediately. In the days following the breakup YG was in the comments of other celebrities seemingly shooting his shot. Meanwhile, Saweetie was spotted sitting courtside at a basketball game with Chris Brown. In a new Instagram post, Saweetie sports and all white fit and poses next to a red lambo. The car has a big red bow on the hood, implying that it was given to her as a gift. “spin the block in the lambo” the caption of her post reads. Unsurprisingly, the post led to immediate speculation that YG might be involved.
“My n*gga’ YG pulled out the Lambo for the sweetesttttt bish in the world” one of the top comments on the post reads. It’s far from the only one suggesting that there could be a reunion but so far there doesn’t seem to be any official confirmation from either artist. Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign have finally dropped their collaborative album Vultures, the first in what’s supposed to be a series of album drops. Two more collab volumes are supposedly on the way, plus a Ye solo album called Y3; that last one is according to EPMD legend Erick Sermon. While we’ll never believe a Kanye album rollout until we actually get a release, it’s at least nice to see folks fully react to these new tracks. Moreover, one of the most fun and simple bops on the whole project is “Do It,” which features guest vocals from Nipsey Hussle and YG. Nip’s appearance is actually a sample from the late legend’s leaked song “I Just Wanna Know” song with Cardi B and Ty himself.
That section opens up the track, which then goes into a party banger with a West Coast bounce, soaring string-like embellishments, and haunting background vocals. Ty Dolla Sign delivers a killer hook melody and previews the song’s hedonistic and lustful themes. To no one’s surprise, Kanye West indulges in this theme with no hesitation, including some cheeky lines about Apple Pay. YG does his thing towards the end with a nonchalant demeanor over a beat that sounds perfectly suited to his style. Along with the likes of “Fuk Sumn,” this record encompasses what makes Vultures a fun listen, albeit one that is pretty one-note.

It was set to kick off in September 2023, and finish in Las Vegas on November 21, 2023.
September – December 2023: YG And Saweetie Seemingly On The Rocks
Following their tour announcement in July, fans of the rap couple were excited to see their faves perform. However, in an unexpected turn of events, fans found out later in September that the tour had been canceled. In addition, it was soon discovered that the pair were no longer following each other on Instagram. As expected, this set fans into a speculating spree once again, with many suggesting that they had broken up. However, on December 28, they were spotted together at the Beverly Hills Hotel. This sighting eased the breakup rumors, but only slightly.
On January 15, 2024, it was reported that YG and Saweetie had called it quits on their relationship. Moreover, YG was also spotted on his ex Kehlani’s comment section on Instagram. After unveiling their relationship to the world, the Compton, California rapper caught attention by canoodling with a female fan on camera in Los Angeles. Reps for YG took to The Shade Room to make a statement on his behalf, while the rapper himself shared a now-deleted Instagram story that read, “I love Kehlani I would never.” According to his PR team, YG “was drunk, got carried away and it was very regretful for putting himself in that situation and hurting Kehlani. He has no romantic connection to the girl, just a drunken moment carried away.”
Though Kehlani didn’t comment publicly about the situation, she took to social media to delete several images of the pair spending time together. However, the controversy didn’t end their relationship, as they continued to see each other without problems for at least another month.
In early December, roughly a month and a half after the Los Angeles incident, Kehlani announced her breakup to the world. The singer, who was 24 years old at the time, took to social media to assure fans, “I am single. and focused.” This announcement came after some fans speculated Kehlani had become romantically involved with Tory Lanez, which she voraciously denied. Moreover, according to new reports from TMZ, representatives from both rappers spoke to The Shade Room about how they mutually decided to end their seven-month-ish relationship, as they think they would be better off as friends. Also, these reports suggest that neither is very interested in seeking another partner right now, and that they want to focus on their careers first and foremost. Meanwhile, the last we heard from them in the pop culture and gossip mill was their October performance at the University of Southern California. Since then, things cooled down significantly at least on our end, leading folks to speculate on just how long ago they split. It’s possible that their teams are just now allegedly relaying this to The Shade Room after days, weeks, or months of a relationship status update between YG and Saweetie. Perhaps we’ll just have to wait and see whether either Cali native speaks out about what they had, and what they might continue to manifest beyond a cuff.

She found herself with a surprise hit in the song “Like Dat” which has amassed nearly 10 million streams on Spotify alone. To push the track even higher she recruited French Montana for a remix. Shortly after, she teamed up with JT of City Girls fame for yet another remix of the song. All three versions of the song sit among other tracks like “Real Rap” and “Pretty Privlidge” as some of her most-streamed music to date.
Meanwhile, YG may have had an even busier 2023. He released an entire collaborative project with Tyga called Hit Me When U Leave The Klub. The album also featured appearances from Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes, and Blxst. The single “Brand New” with Lil Wayne served as quite the breakout hit with over 22 million Spotify streams since it dropped last year.
YG also made an appearance on Saweetie’s single “BIRTHDAY.” The song dropped right in the midst of a series of times the couple were spotted enjoying nights out together.
