Dawn Staley Celebrates National Title Win During Appearance on 'The Daily Show with Trevor Noah'

Fresh off her championship win with the South Carolina Women’s Basketball Team, Dawn Staley visited The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. During her appearance, Staley spoke about her second title, training her dog “Champ,” and inspiring her players.

“I think the second time is sweeter,” Staley said. “Only because the first time we won, we didn’t play against UCONN and they are considered the very best. It wasn’t really validating in 2017, but this year we got to play them and it felt great beating them.”

Additional topics between the two include advocating for Equal Pay, the importance of supporting coaches of color, sharing her piece of the championship net, and more.

Trevor Noah Is Weighing In After Kanye West Got Banned By The Grammys

Despite Trevor Noah warning people that the Kanye West and Kim Kardashian situation has the potential to devolve into violence, Noah has come out against the recent move by the Grammys to pull West’s performance.

The music awards ceremony has barred West from performing due to his “concerning online behavior,” which recently involved hurling racial slurs at Noah in response to his Daily Show segment. Those slurs resulted in West being banned from Instagram for 24 hours and have now culminated in the decision from the Grammys, which Noah opposes.

“I said counsel Kanye not cancel Kanye,” Noah tweeted late Sunday night.

It’s yet another classy move by The Daily Show host who responded to Kanye calling him a racial slur by saying how much the rappers’ work has inspired him, which is why he hates to see him in his current state.

“You’re an indelible part of my life Ye,” Noah wrote in the comments of the now-deleted Instagram post. “Which is why it breaks my heart to see you like this. I don’t care if you support Trump and I don’t care if you roast Pete. I do however care when I see you on a path that’s dangerously close to peril and pain.”

Of course, Noah did light up Kanye a little by saying, “Clearly some people graduate but we still stupid, but for the most part, Noah’s main concern has been pushing for Kanye to get the help he likely needs.

Trevor Noah’s Reply To Kanye West’s ‘Coon’ Slur Is How We Show Love Even When We Disagree

Trevor Noah x Kanye West

Trevor Noah ended up on Kanye West’s radar for his commentary on the ongoing feud between Kayne, his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, and Pete Davidson, with Kanye West calling him a coon. However, Trevor Noah replied with grace, admiration, and black solidarity. Trevor Noah Responds To Kanye’s ‘Coon’ Slur Kanye West called Trevor Noah a ‘coon’ […]

Kanye West’s ‘Eazy’ Collaborator The Game Criticizes Instagram For Suspending Him

Yesterday, after nearly a month of posts haranguing comedian Pete Davidson for dating his ex, Kanye West was finally suspended from Instagram for calling Trevor Noah a “coon.” While many saw the punitive action as long overdue, Ye’s “Eazy” collaborator The Game saw things differently, piping up on behalf of his friend — who, remember, he said did more for him in a week than Dr. Dre did his whole career — in an Instagram post of his own questioning the decision to lock Kanye out for a whole 24 hours.

“It’s a whole war going on in Ukraine & hate posts surrounding it that add fuel to the fire,” Game argued. “+ Africans being violated & barred from crossing borders to safety with racists comments/content attached…. and y’all zero’d in on Ye’s posts about the protection of his children, his fatherhood & him speaking his truth in defense to the coonery displayed by other verified users on this app that further complicate his situation in regards to his family.”

Okay. So.

Good points were made. Game is right: Instagram lets a lot of stuff slide. As anyone following any major sports account can attest, bots are rampant, a lot of quasi-racism gets by the filter, comments are filled with bullies and trolls, and heaven forbid you accidentally “like” the wrong post and screw up the algorithm — you might find yourself in QAnon territory by the end of your lunch break.

But!

Come on, now. Is this the behavior we’re going to bat for? Kanye spent several weeks calling that man “Skete,” and crowing about chasing him off the app while spreading Breitbart propaganda posts. Kim Kardashian, bless her oblivious, narcissistic little heart, has been desperately trying to get Ye to chill out lying about not seeing his kids. Trevor Noah’s big offense was expressing his concerns about the situation in an empathetic monologue on his show (Trevor was really nice about his response too). Kanye needs someone near him to risk getting the Big Sean treatment and tell him about himself, not defend him when he finally faces consequences for his own reckless actions. Also, there’s a strong chance that he’ll be unsuspended by the time most folks read this, and equally likely he’ll be right back at his old shenanigans by the weekend.

One good thing may come of this, though: As French Montana said, now that Kanye’s been offended by Instagram, it’s a safe bet he’ll have his own social media platform ready to rollout by this time next year. He’ll be easier to ignore then.

Kanye West Has Been Suspended From Instagram For Attacking Trevor Noah….For 24 Hours

Welp, it finally happened: Kanye West has lost his Instagram privileges. The rapper has been suspended from the app and while the suspension is set to last only 24 hours, it sets a precedent that the social media service says could lead to them taking additional steps if he keeps violating their terms of service. While Kanye has been repeatedly using his Instagram feed to air out his dirty laundry and general grievances towards his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her new boyfriend Pete Davidson, it seems the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back were racist slurs directed at The Daily Show host Trevor Noah.

Yesterday, Noah used a segment on The Daily Show to express a cautionary tale regarding West’s repeated harassment of Kardashian. He cited how this type of behavior directed towards women is incredibly problematic and can lead to far worse things down the road. Noah got personal in describing how his mother was told she was “overreacting” when she complained about her abusive partner. She was later shot in the back of the head. While Noah presents an extreme example, it’s the pattern of behavior that he finds concerning with Kanye — and let’s be honest, everyone else sees it too.

Following the segment, Kanye took to Instagram to post photos of Noah. He captioned the post with the lyrics to “Kumbaya, my lord,” but swapped out one word for a racial slur. An Instagram spokesperson told TMZ that this post and others “violated Instagram’s policies on hate speech, harassment and bullying.” So for the next 24 hours, the world will finally get a break from the veritable train wreck that has been @kanywest on Instagram. Here’s hoping he comes back a different person, or at the very least, a more respectful Instagrammer.

Trevor Noah Cooked Kanye West For Responding With A Racial Slur To Concern About Kim Kardashian

Trevor Noah devoted a substantial chunk of time (on Tuesday night’s The Daily Show episode) to discussing the ongoing trainwreck of the Kanye West/Kim Kardashian/Pete Davidson situation. By now, you’ve surely noticed the back and forth, including how Kayne has thrown obstacles into Kim’s divorce filing (which was granted by a judge) and depicted an act of physical violence against Pete in a music video, and Noah has warned this very publicly rendered obsession could take a terrible turn.

Noah, who had discussed how his own mother endured an abusive relationship before being shot in the head (Patricia Noah did, miraculously, survive), did carefully make sure that he wasn’t accusing Kanye of physical violence. Still, Noah expressed worry and wondered, “Do we wish to stand by and watch a car crash when we thought we saw it coming? Or do we at least want to say, ‘Slow down, let’s all put our hazards on, because there’s a storm coming and sh*t might go down.’”

Before long, Kanye posted (as noted by both TMZ and Us Weekly) a response on his Instagram page. He’s since deleted the racial slur-filled post, but here’s a screenshot:

Noah stepped up and responded in the comments to that post. Of course, the post and the comment are now deleted, but Noah (via The Wrap) declared (of the racial slur), “Clearly some people graduate but we still stupid.” He added, “Don’t ever forget, the biggest trick racists ever played on black people was teaching us to strip each other of our blackness whenever we disagree. Tricking us into dividing ourselves up into splinters so that we would never unite into a powerful rod.”

Earlier on in the comment, Noah expressed concern for Kanye’s well-being, too:

“There are few artists who have had more of an impact on me than you Ye. You took samples and turned them into symphonies. You took your pain and through the wire turned it into performance perfection. I thought differently about how I spend my money because of you, I learned to protect my child-like creativity from grown thoughts because of you, shit I still smile every time I put on my seatbelt because of you.

“You’re an indelible part of my life Ye. Which is why it breaks my heart to see you like this. I don’t care if you support Trump and I don’t care if you roast Pete. I do however care when I see you on a path that’s dangerously close to peril and pain.”

As of now, there’s been no additional response from Kanye.
