Rich The Kid Delivers “Life’s A Gamble”, Executively Produced By Kanye West

“I feel like everything in life’s a gamble. You walk out the front door, you could get hit by a bus. Everything’s a gamble. I’ve taken wins and losses with my career, and I felt it was a perfect title”. That was Rich The Kid explaining the meaning behind the title of his latest studio album, Life’s A Gamble to Billboard. This is the Queens, New York native’s first solo record since 2020’s BOSS MAN. However, he did drop two collaborative tapes that same year —Origin and Nobody Safe— and Trust Fund Babies with Lil Wayne in 2021.

While a fair number of those past releases had lukewarm results, Life’s A Gamble, hopes to perform better. It helps that Rich The Kid has built up a lot of momentum coming in. A lot of that stems from him being on the number one record “CARNIVAL” off of Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign’s VULTURES 1. Speaking of those two, Rich The Kid grabbing them to executive produce this LP had fans licking their lips. Finally, the lead singles, “Gimme A Second” and its sequel, as well as “Band Man”, have also been performing well.

What we can say about LAG is that you can tell that Kanye and Ty were big contributors. That is especially true when it comes to the production. For the most part, the beats and the guests attached are the stars of the show (Chief Keef, Offset, Quavo, etc.). However, Rich does have solid performances here such as “Gimme A Second” and “Not In The Mood”. But will all of this be enough to negate the long wait and numerous track and feature removals? It sure is a gamble and we will see if it pays off for Rich The Kid soon.

Erica Banks & Big Boogie Are Unapologetically Ignorant On “Extra”

Erica Banks might be making more headlines for her controversial cosmetic surgeries and comments, but those ignoring her rap skills are sorely mistaken. The DeSoto, Texas Flow Queen has a knack for penning catchy melodies and lyrics and is one hell of run currently. These last several months especially, she has been doing a lot of her damage over on the YouTube side of things. Whether it be her multitude of freestyles over classic beats or the loosies, each kind of song manages to rake in lots of ears and eyeballs. Some of those releases have trickled over to streaming platforms, including “I Ain’t Fresh” and “ON HIS FACE”. Now Erica Banks has another with “Extra”.

The “Buss It” MC seems to prefer to work alone. But on “Extra”, she is pairing up with one of the many Memphis talents, Big Boogie. This track obviously has a lot of Southern hip-hop and trap elements, especially on the delivery side of things. Both of their deep cadences compliment the thick kicks and bass well as they brag about their lavish lifestyles. Banks and Boogie are totally ignoring the haters on this one too, so this collab simply oozes tons of cockiness. You can check out “Extra” and its music video with the link below.

Juicy J & Xavier Wulf Craft A Consistent & Fun Trap Record With “Memphis Zoo”

“The album itself is SUPER fun. It’s the signature Juicy J style, and Xavier Wulf fits very well into the mix. Short, fun and consistent, that’s what a Juicy J album should be”. That was one review left on Album Of The Year talking about the newest Juicy J project, Memphis Zoo. As the user says, this is a joint effort with the influential voice and Xavier Wulf. The latter is from Memphis as well, but even though he has been in the game for at least a decade, these two are quite unfamiliar with one another. In fact, Juicy J and Xavier Wulf did not collaborate as a duo until the former’s 2023 tape, Mental Trillness. You can hear them together on “No Man”.

After seeing their potential together, Juicy grabbed Xavier again for a couple of cuts of the aforementioned tape’s sequel earlier this year. “On The Way” and “All It Takes” are the two joints to revisit. Now, on Memphis Zoo, their relationship is fully realized, and we share the same sentiment as the reviewer above. While Juicy J is undoubtedly a pillar of Southern hip-hop, he can be limited in terms of his approach to a track.

Where he is truly great is when he creates punchy and short tracks and Memphis Zoo excels in that area. Adding in Xavier Wulf further helps this project succeed, because while the beats do slap, they are all fairly similar. So, having that extra voice with a different cadence breaks up what could have been an even more monotonous listen. Overall, Juicy J and Wulf have a solid record and we recommend you give it a spin.

Veeze & Rylo Rodriguez Collide For “F*cked A Fan”

Veeze is someone who took full advantage of a down year for rap in 2023. However, that is not to discredit his Ganger album. Overall, it was one that made a lot of end-of-year lists for hip-hop across the web, including ours. The Detroit MC’s sleepy and nonchalant flows are ones that usually get overlooked, generally speaking. An approach like that usually gets associated with mumble rappers who have little to offer lyrically. However, he proves that he is someone that you cannot judge too harshly on the surface. Veeze continues to evolve and “F*cked A Fan” is one sample of that growth process.

What the “GOMD” rapper is focusing on topically in 2024 is dealing with all of this newfound fame. His first release of this year, “Pop Yo S***”, seems him accept the place he is in right now. “F*cked A Fan”, which features Rylo Rodriguez, continues this more hype and “I’m the s***” energy. The beat, like most Veeze selections, is pure gas. Triumphant and glitchy tones, booming bass and 808s, and resonant kicks all unite for a grand trap and celebratory track for Veeze.

DaBaby Claims There’s “NAN” Like Him On Braggadocious Single

DaBaby is taking a firm stance on the fact that he is on another level compared to the competition with “NAN”. This is the Cleveland/North Carolina spitter’s latest single, and it continues his solid run of releases. 2024 has been an especially active year for his solo career but also in terms of his guest work. DaBaby has lent his talents to That Mexican OT on “Point Em Out”, one of the most popular cuts from the latter’s Texas Technician. Also worth noting is his contribution to “Perfect” from Icewear Vezzo’s project, Live From The 6.

On “NAN”, it sees the speedy rapper deliver brags on brags over one of his funkiest beats to date. There is a quirky and glitchy sound effect, in addition to a cartoonish horn-like section that pops in here and there. In terms of the flows, they do feel a little recycled, but they do match the tempo of the instrumental. In terms of the chorus, it is quite repetitive but catchy and it does give off that “I’m the s***” energy. DaBaby first previewed this song on his Instagram back in late June. He shared a wholesome video of his sons dancing and lip syncing the lyrics. Today, he announced that “NAN” was out now, while also leaving with a message. “Woke up feeling good today. From this release forward I’m steppin how I step! 😤”.

Lil Gotit Releases His First Album Independently With “Shut The Door, Nobody Listening”

Lil Gotit is showing his love to Young Thug and his affiliates on his new album, Shut The Door, Nobody Listening. This is actually the Atlanta, Georgia native’s sixth studio project and a follow-up to the 2022 LP, The Cheater. The latter would go on to be Lil Gotit’s last release with Alamo Records, making Shut The Door an independent offering. Furthermore, it is his first-ever time doing such a thing, so this will almost assuredly hold a special place in the rapper’s heart. The six-year veteran actually began the rollout for this body of work back in late September 2022.

“360 Boy” the devilish opener to this 17-song tracklist, is now longer than the original from almost two years ago. It includes a skit that starts the track off, instead of just the instrumental building up to the chorus. Fans would hear more from Shut The Door in March of last year with “DRIPPIN in Spider”. Finally, in November 2023, Lil Gotit would release “BOW”, the closer, and then “Twisting Our Fingers” in early June of 2024. As we mentioned at the beginning, the “She Know It” rapper is working with YSL members/relatives this time through. Only Young Thug, his late brother Lil Keed, and Thugger’s girlfriend and R&B star Mariah the Scientist make appearances. Be sure to give Gotit’s Shut The Door a spin with the links down below.

Shoreline Mafia Have Another Hit On Their Hands With “Work”

“We gave y’all four f***ing years to catch up… Shout out to a couple motherf***ers that did do they s*** but ain’t nobody did it like us. Where y’all plaques at?”. That is the type of energy that Los Angeles, California rap tandem Shoreline Mafia is on right now after dropping “Work”. The duo, known for their dark and club-ready sound, made their long-awaited comeback just over a month ago.

After a busy 2020, which saw them drop single after single, as well as their fifth overall project, Mafia Business and its deluxe, they went radio silent. You could find OHGEESY and Fenix Flexin doing some solo work, but absolutely nothing for four years. Almost assuredly, there had to be some people out there who had their doubts about how they would sound together after such a long break. Those concerns have certainly been put to rest, as “HEAT STICK” is already doing serious numbers, raking in over 24 million streams on Spotify. What is insane about them dropping “Work” is that their next album could feature slapper after slapper. That is seemingly the trajectory Shoreline Mafia is on, as this track has incredible bounce and some sticky four-count flows.

Moneybagg Yo Drops Off Blistering “PLAY DA FOOL” One Week Ahead Of “SPEAK NOW”

Moneybagg Yo has fans on the edge of their seats. The Memphis, Tennessee spitter was on pace to drop his newest album SPEAK NOW on May 24. However, the 32-year-old was not quite ready to release it to the masses just yet. Subsequently, fans were left disappointed, but there is a good reason for it. The hitmaker revealed that a major feature could not be left behind and he wanted to make sure that record would make the cut. SPEAK NOW is just one week away from dropping (June 14), so the wait will hopefully be worth it in the end. But before that arrives, Moneybagg Yo has one more single to share from it called “PLAY DA FOOL”.

This is the third offering from the project, as it supersedes “Bussin” with Rob49, and “TRYNA MAKE SURE”, which has been popping off. Yo is synonymous with being cutthroat and aggressive and “PLAY DA FOOL” is no different. Subsequently, you get a lot of bars about street life, snitches, violence, and the like. Moneybagg locks in and finds a pocket as soon as the record starts, leading to a thoroughly entertaining 2:20.

The Game Joins Forces With STB Label For “Time” Project

With The Game being in the game (pun intended) for so long, he has seen quite a bit throughout his career. To be exact, his career spans over 21 years and his catalog may be in contention for the most expansive out of any rapper. In that two-decade long span, the 44-year-old has worked with many artists as you may expect. Instead of just grabbing features for his albums, he has gone out and released compilation records, too. One that hardcore Game fans might know is his 2003 tape, QB 2 Compton Ringtones. That saw cuts from Nas, and one from San Quinn. Fast forward to June 7 and The Game is adding another project of that vein with Time.

This mixtape follows his January 1 release with Hit-Boy and Big Hit, Paisley Dreams. Hit is a veteran and also roughly from the same area, so working with him made a lot of sense. This time though, The Game is teaming up with the younger generation of MCs. Those include Woodboy Gee, C Stunna, Stunna 4 Vegas, and CHLLER. Vegas and Gee are STB (Secure The Bag Entertainment) signees, which Time was released through. The Game does not appear until track six, “I Feel Like A Dope Boy”, but the other cast members keep the energy high with accessible trap bangers. In addition to providing vocals, he also is credited as an executive producer alongside CEO of STB, Ryan Kane.

Baby Jungle Carries His Own Weight On Stacked Debut Project “Jungle Book”

“I could be smooth and melodic or have some turned up level s***. I’m very versatile.” That is what rising Georgia rap star Baby Jungle told Hip Hop Since 1987 in a recent interview about his debut mixtape Jungle Book. “I feel like I have a unique sound. It’s the perfect mix of edgy flow patterns and melodies,” speaking with Kazi. “Different songs evoke different feelings.” Sometimes I want people to have fun and pop it… I want to encourage people where I’m from. Sometimes I want to help people dealing with depression.”

We can definitely see where Baby Jungle is coming from. In fact, we completely concur with the multi-hyphenate. His inspirations being Lil Baby, Juice WRLD, NBA YoungBoy, and Lil Durk makes sense. Across this impressively trim 12 song mixtape, Jungle mixes some beats and melodies that four of these rappers would deploy on their efforts.

That is especially the case on the backend of the record. Songs like “Frozen,” “Dark Clouds,” and “Never Run” are perfect examples of this varied skillset. Also helping get these visions on a fairly well-mixed record are the distributor(s) and his label, Epic Records. Furthermore, his talent is being recognized by some that either are established or almost there. DJ Drama, Rob49, Luh Tyler, are just a handful of them. This is definitely a great start for the youngster, and we definitely recommend hopping on the bandwagon now.

What are your thoughts on Never Gets Late Here by Baby Jungle? Do you think that this debut album has the ability to blow up Baby Jungle? Who had the strongest guest performance?
