The Alchemist & Oh No, AKA Gangrene, Team Up For Gritty Project “Heads I Win, Tails You Lose”

Beverly Hills, California producer extraordinaire The Alchemist is back to revive an old hip-hop group of his. Gangrene is an outfit that consists of himself and fellow Californian Oh No. Together they form the duo called Gangrene. They have been collaborating with each other since 2010 and have lots of chemistry in the studio. However, the last record we heard from these masterful artists came back in 2015 with You Disgust Me. But that all changes today, as The Alchemist and Oh No are here with their fourth project Heads I Win, Tails You Lose.

They did release one single for Heads I Win at the beginning of April with “Oxnard Water Torture,” which is the city in which Oh No resides. As for the production, Uncle Al and Oh No bring some chilling, dark, and gritty instrumentals with apt sound effects to accentuate the vibe. The rapping is also a highlight with both contributing in that department as well. Intricate rhymes and deliberate flows are the name of the game in this case.

Yung Lean & Bladee’s “Golden God” Is A Heavenly Braggadocious Cut From “Psykos”

Yung Lean and Bladee, two Swedish artists with tons of creative flare, have just dropped off a new project today. It was a total stunner, as it had little to no promotion from either camp. But, it features eight tracks, no features and runs for just 22 minutes. One song we wanted to highlight from Psykos is Yung Lean and Bladee’s “Golden God.”

It is track number on the record and it is one of the more big boss cuts here. Most people, especially those not familiar with Lean or Bladee’s music, might be expecting heavy 808s and trap percussion. It would make sense to think that way, since tracks like this in hip-hop typically go for that sonic direction. However, that could not be further from the truth.

Listen To “Golden God” By Yung Lean & Bladee

Lean and Bladee incoporate steady drums and excellent but simple guitar riffs. For any rock fans out there, it has a similar sound to New Order’s 1985 track “Elegia.” As a little fun aside, that song can be heard in the immensely popular Netlfix series Stranger Things in its first season. But, back to Lean and Bladee, they deliver a truly mesmerizing listening experience from start to finish.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song, “Golden God,” by Yung Lean and Bladee? For each artist, is this one of their strongest tracks, why or why not? How are you feeling about Psykos so far? What songs are you gravitating toward right now and why? Do you think there should have been a feature or two on the record? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Quotable Lyrics:

Heroes of the phone, was too far, gotta call a car
Call a cab, pop a tab, Sad Boys in the back
Couple girls in the front, let her sit up in my trunk (Let her sit up in my trunk)
And you can’t do it like we do it so we do it just to prove it
I love magic, I love money, I love music, I abuse it
Movin’ in the shadows, we maneuver through the sewers

Blu & Roy Royal Bleed L.A. On “Royal Blu”

Underground hip-hop has produced some of the greatest lyrical talents in the 50-year history of the genre. Blu, the sure-fire MC from California has been dropping some of the best material from the West Coast since the early 2000 decade. In fact, his 2007 record, Below The Heavens, is widely seen as one of the best rap records from that time period. Blu’s prowess lies in his lyricism and good ear for production, both of which are blatantly obvious on his newest record.

The 40-year-old prolific spitter is following up a duo of projects in 2023. Bad News was the first of the two releases and that went down in August. That was a venture with Real Bad Man, a production and streetwear company that is on the rise. Then, in early December in 2023 Blu linked with Nottz for another concise listen called Afrika.

NLE Choppa And DJ BOOKER Team For A Mini Project “The Chosen Ones”

NLE Choppa is teaming up with an old friend for a little seven-track project. But first, let us take a quick look back at his 2023. The Memphis talent was pretty active, as he worked with some international artists while sticking to his roots. Some of his highlights included the sequel to his debut project Cottonwood.

In terms of tracks that stood out for Choppa, it is quite a long list. One of his hottest collaborations was with French rapper Gambi on “Bonjour.” Of course, you also have the singles “IT’S GETTING HOT,” which was very polarizing. Additionally, he closed out his halo “Shotta Flow” series with the seventh installment.

Listen To The Chosen Ones By DJ BOOKER And NLE Choppa

To start the new year, we mentioned Choppa is working with a familiar face for a short album called The Chosen Ones. That artist is DJ BOOKER. He has been crafting beats since 2016 but has a very minimal discography. BOOKER weaves in and out of different lanes such as dance, electronic, and rap. These two first worked with each other on a 2020 loosie “Ayeee.” Then, they would go on to release the eventual lead single for this tape in 2022 with “Mem.” To match the various production choices Choppa uses multiple cadences that make him sound like someone else. You can check out the tape with the DSP links above.

What are your initial thoughts on this brand-new album, The Chosen One, by NLE Choppa and DJ BOOKER? Which songs are you gravitating toward the most so far after the first few listens? Meek Mill And Rick Ross Bring On Vory For A “Grandiose” Banger

Meek Mill and Rick Ross are a great duo, there is no surprise there. The MMG labelmates have so many rock-steady collaborations under their belt. That also goes for the Philadelphia native and Houston, Texas singer and rapper, Vory. Too Good To Be True dropped yesterday (November 10). Leading up to its release, the standout single was “SHAQ & KOBE.”

However, you have to include this one in the mix as one of the best cuts from the tape. “Grandiose” lives up to its name. The braggadocious bars from all three artists add to the feeling of being a boss like Ross. Additionally, the booming beat from jetsonmade, Pooh Beatz, and Murda Beatz is also a highlight, too.

Listen To “Grandiose” By Meek Mill, Rick Ross, And Vory

As we mentioned earlier, Meek and Vory have given us plenty of heat in the past. Most people began to hear of the underrated crooner back on Kanye West’s gospel-inspired record, Donda. However, Meek was an earlier endorser of Vory. Both of them had some punchy cuts on the Philly native’s EP, QUARANTINE PACK. It is good to see these two still going to work together and for Vory individually to keep getting that recognition he deserves.

What are your initial thoughts on this brand-new song “Grandiose” with Meek Mill, Rick Ross, and Vory? Is this best Meek and Vory track they have ever done together? Which songs are you gravtitating toward after one full day of the project being out? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. Chris Brown Goes Into His Afrobeat Bag With Davido And Lojay On “Sensational”

Chris Brown is most well-known for how controversial he is. We do not need to go into the history of why so many people and music fans are divided on him. Besides his actions outside of music, a lot of listeners are growing more and more irritated with how long and bloated his records have been. Brown notoriously came out with a new version of Heartbreak on a Full Moon.

The original was already excessively long with 45 songs. The holiday-themed release, Heartbreak On A Full Moon Deluxe Edition: Cuffing Season – 12 Days Of Christmas was 57 tracks and over three hours! Now, Chris Brown seems to be near another album release, possibly on or near November 11. We say that because the title of it is 11:11. We already got a single back in June for this tape.

Listen To “Sensational” From Chris Brown, Davido, And Lojay

“Summer Too Hot” was traditional fare from the Virginia artist. On this latest cut, he recruits Davido and Lojay for “Sensational.” It features tropical vibes similar to the lead track. However, this one fits more into the Afrobeat genre. With so much music from Breezy, is his approach getting too repetitive, or is it still “sensational?”

What are your initial thoughts on this brand-new single from Chris Brown, Davido, and Lojay, “Sensational?” Is this the better single from his upcoming album over “Summer Too Hot?” Do you think Chris Brown is still a top-tier R&B artist? Tobi Lou And FARADA Prove They Are A Great Duo With “Perish Blue (Fall Tour)”

Tobi Lou and FARADA are a duo you might not know, but they are one you will want to continue to hear from. The Nigerian-born and Chicago-raised rapper is a dynamic and multi-talented artist. He can spit some goofy and playful bars but also sing some heartfelt lyrics. On top of that, you have FARADA’s wavy, R&B, and trappy beats that will have you floating on a cloud. You can trace their works together back to earlier this year.

They already have two full projects together in just nine months. The first offering came out on March 31 and it was called, Baggy Weather (Mini Version). Following that was ‘Decent released back on June 30. While those were straightforward outputs, the last handful is a little more unconventional. It all started with tobi lou and FARADA’s single “Fee.” Since then, they have gone on to add new tracks over the past month.

Smoke DZA And Flying Lotus Might Have An EP Of The Year Contender With “Flying Objects”

Smoke DZA and Flying Lotus are truly a match made in heaven. The duo has just released their first collaborative project together with their brand new EP. Flying Objects is one of the best, if not the best EPs of 2023 and we are about to break down why. Firstly though, let us give you the basic information and some background on it. Flying Objects is five tracks that equal a runtime of 14 minutes and 14 seconds. DZA brings on features from some heavy hitters in this quick effort. Conway the Machine, Black Thought, and Estelle appear in songs two, four, and five.

Furthermore, all of the production is handled by legendary Los Angeles producer, Flying Lotus. He brings elements of trap, cloud rap, boom-bap, and R&B. Finally, there were two singles for the promotion of this EP. “Drug Trade” with Black Thought and “Harlem World 97” with Estelle were both released in the past two months. Now, why is this EP so good? Well, both DZA and Lotus complement each other’s styles so well. The hazy, laid-back, and euphoric production along with the lyrics about dope, money, and being the man, is the perfect unison.

Perhaps the best song on the EP, “Drug Trade” featuring Black Thought, has it all. The woozy flow from DZA, the drums and whimsical synths from Lotus, and the lyrical talent from Thought form a truly special song. It is really sad that the duo does not have a full album together. But, we can continue to dream that will happen one day.

What are your initial thoughts on this brand new EP, Flying Objects, from Smoke DZA and Flying Lotus? Is this one of the best EPs of 2023? Should Smoke DZA and Flying Lotus make a full-length project in the near future? Blxst And Bino Rideaux Bring Their Seamless Chemistry On “Sixtape 3”

Los Angeles natives and now frequent collaborators Blxst and Bino Rideaux are back once again with more new music. Consistently over the past four years, the duo has released a new Sixtape every other year. The same remains true with Sixtape 3 now available on all streaming platforms. Both ultra-talented singers and rappers, Blxst and Bino have formed a pretty formidable duo in the West Coast scene. While they might not be the names you immediately mention, you cannot deny they are bringing a unique flavor.

The Sixtape series is known for its earworm hooks and effortless flows over trap and R&B beats. That trend continues here in the third installment. Blxst and Bino Rideaux make it look easy, especially on songs like “Doin Yo Stuff.” It is the ultimate love-making song with bouncy West Coast influence in its production and auto-tune-laced vocals. The melody that Blxst and Bino provide here is so smooth and effortless.

The R&B hits continue on the following track “Get Away.” It is another love cut but this one possesses more emotional weight that shows both artists missing their partners. Their love for them is so strong that it is hard to function when they are not around. Blxst sings in the chorus, “Ain’t no question, you should send that my way (My way) / I’m so reckless, I’ve been pressin’ all day (All day) / What do it take for us to get away? (Get away).” Overall, it should please their fanbases with the familiar vibes Sixtape 3 displays. Both artists continue to impress with their seamless connection on every track they hop on.

Dreamville’s Collaboration With Daily Paper Has Dropped

Dreamville Records has launched a new project in collaboration with Amsterdam-based fashion label Daily Paper. The resulting capsule, referred to as Dream Daily, is a seven-piece collection of university-style wear. Raeana Anaïs, the design director of Dreamville, describes the mission of this project to be “Dream Daily, and then put a plan into action to make those dreams come true.”

The record label, founded by J. Cole, has initiated another step into the fashion world with this collection. Reflecting on this new endeavor with Daily Paper, Dreamville partner Adam Roy stated, “we tell stories through music and equally they, with fashion. We’re excited about the opportunity to build something special with one of today’s foremost fashion collectives.” Daily Paper, which was created in 2008 by Abderrahmane Trabsini, Hussein Suleiman, and Jefferson Osei, is heavily inspired by the African heritage of the founders.

Dreamville X Daily Paper Pulls Inspo From The Classroom

For the release, photographer Olya Oleinic shot a yearbook-themed campaign starring “alumni” members of both Dreamville and the Daily Paper. Dream Daily is also heavily inspired by the University of Sankore, which is regarded as one of the world’s oldest educational institutions. The creative direction for Dream Daily is explained in a statement released on the fashion brand’s website: “With both brands starting their respective labels during their university years, we reimagine what a Daily Paper x Dreamville University would look like.” The brand also features a similarly styled video campaign, which also features the behind-the-scenes of the creation of Dream Daily.

Needless to say, the concept of Dream Daily emphasizes education. One of the more notable pieces from the capsule is the maroon and sandy-colored University Jacket. Featured on the jacked is an assortment of branded patches and a graphic depicting the Great Mosque of Djenné, which has both religious and cultural significance for the people of Mali. The collection also features a polo dress, a polo sweater, a coach jacket, sweatpants, a hoodie, and a t-shirt. Today (February 24th) marks the first day of Dreamville’s pop-up in NYC, located inside of the Daily Paper’s flagship store. For more news related to pop culture and hip-hop, be sure to keep in touch with HNHH.
