Tee Grizzley & Fridayy Are Mentally Strong On “I Know”

Tee Grizzley was one of few more mainstream names to come through with a new album this past weekend. Post Traumatic, his 12th overall project, has features from G Herbo, Tink, J. Cole, Mariah the Scientist, YTB Fatt, Future, and more. A lot of the guests laid down some rock-solid performances, especially Cole’s, which has easily been one of this project’s most revisited tracks. In just its short time being out, it’s already raked in over 7,000,000 streams on Spotify.

However, something we have come to learn about Post Traumatic is that we have to like some of the more “unsung” collaborations. One of them is “I Know,” a team-up between Tee Grizzley and R&B talent Fridayy. This is one of the most personal offerings from the 24-songs and it’s an empowering one at that. Both artists perform passionately about having grit and toughness through all of life’s struggles. Maintaining a positive outlook is the overarching message here and it shines through thanks to the effective writing from Tee and Fridayy.

Quotable Lyrics:

I know how to hit thе studio and rap my life on some street s*** (I do)
I know how to take one brick, do a remix, now it’s three bricks (I do)
Pray all my dogs live bulletproof after all the s*** that we been through
Talkin’ blocks hot and they spinnin’ too, and hit loved ones just to get at you (Damn)
Seen close friends at the back door, ‘spite of gettin’ everything that I asked for
New stamps in my passport, running shoes, chasin’ this cash flow

Tee Grizzley & G Herbo Skate On Their Latest Collaboration “Swerve”

Tee Grizzley has just put out Post Traumatic, his twelfth project and follow-up to Tee’s Coney Island. The Detroit native has won our support for it, as we really appreciate some of the chances he took with it. There are some nice sample flips and more R&B-like cuts on this 24-song set that go over better than some may expect. What’s also nice about this tape is that Grizzley is giving his fans what they know him for as well. That is hard-hitting trap and hardcore rap bangers with intense flows. Tee Grizzley and G Herbo are doing that and at a high level on “Swerve.”

If you can believe it, this is just the third occasion in which they have been on a song together. The most recent is on YG’s latest record, JUST RE’D UP 3, on the track “MALIBU.” Prior to that, the Midwest stars linked on Tee’s Built For Whatever cut, “Never Bend Never Fold.” On “Swerve,” Herbo and Grizzley equally trade verses and in thrilling fashion. Aiding that sensation is that the fact that they both rap with ease over a dramatic piano trap beat. They indeed slip, slide, and “Swerve” all over the production and it’s one of our go-to’s from this tracklist. Listen to it below and see what you think.

Quotable Lyrics:

Rappin’ and trappin’ almost stopped me from prevailin’
In the studio, but I was stoppin’, makin’ sales (And)
F***ed that paper up when all my partners went to jail (And)
Anything under quarter million made bail (You know that)
Anything I say false, then you can intervene
Like how I used to walk with .40 Glocks and make them b****es sing (Bop)

Tee Grizzley Recounts His Troubled Past On “All I Wanna Do”

Tee Grizzley has some pretty underrated skills and one of them is his ability to get reflective. “First Day Out,” his 2017 breakout hit, should have told us this from the start. However, given that his themes usually revolve around street violence and gang activity, it’s gotten lost in the shuffle for us to some degree. But Tee Grizzley is here to remind us of this skill on one of his new songs, “All I Wanna Do.” This lands on the Detroit rapper, singer, and songwriter’s brand-new album, Post Traumatic.

One thing we have praised this record for so far is some of the chances it takes. While it might not sound like much, Grizzley isn’t one to rap over soul samples. He does that on “All I Wanna Do” and it sounds really good, so we are hoping for more of this in the future. On this 2:06 cut, the hitmaker raps in first and third person about his troubled past, including his lengthy prison sentence. He uses these experiences as life lessons, and he expresses how he wants to be inspiration for his close friends. “My street niggas, let me be your motivation / You can make it, I was broke before, I’m talkin’ so hungry that I was shakin’ (Man).” It’s a moving track and one of our favorites so far.

Brodie been gone for ten years, he down to five days, n****, uh
They sent him off to prison, gave him a long time
I can’t cap, he probably needed that alone time
Focused on his goals now, realized he a gold mine
Told him he wasn’t s***, but he was great the whole time

Tee Grizzley’s “Post Traumatic” Is His Most Ambitious Album To Date

Tee Grizzley has deceptive range as an artist. For someone who broke through with a hard-hitting sound, the rapper has proven that he can drop everything from lyrical miracles to sticky R&B melodies. His last few albums were concise in terms of tracklist, but they were also limited in scope. Post Traumatic, on the other hand, is sprawling. At 24 tracks, it is Tee Grizzley’s longest album to date, and it serves as the ideal showcase for all the different sounds and style he can convincingly pull off.

Post Traumatic starts off a bit show, but “Blow for Blow” gets the momentum going. From track three on, Tee Grizzley dishes out sample-based pop-rap on “All I Wanna Do.” He turns around and leans into hard trap tropes on the hooky “More Than Half.” Need more? How about a flirty R&B duet with Tink on “Ride or Die”? Post Traumatic keeps changing out the styles and featured artists while maintaining a cohesion and aesthetic consistency. It’s an impressive balance. Tee Grizzley sounds just as good opposite Future on the off-kilter “Swear to God” as he does Mariah the Scientist on “Situationship.” The length of Post Traumatic can be daunting, but even on shuffle, these various sounds cohere into a great listening experience.

Tee Grizzley Reveals Features And Release Date For New Album “Post Traumatic”

Tee Grizzley has got momentum right now. The rapper generated lots of excitement with his new single, “Blow for Blow,” and he’s striking while the iron is hot. He took to social media on September 30 to reveal that his new album, Post Traumatic, is done. Not only that, but the highly-anticipated album will actually be dropping on Friday, October 4. Tee Grizzley went a step further with his announcement by revealing which artists are slated to appear on the album alongside him.

The one feature everybody knows is coming is J. Cole. The Dreamville founder stole the show on Tee Grizzley’s lead single, “Blow for Blow.” His verse is an absolute head spinner, and proves that Grizzley can get lyrical with the absolute best of them. J. Cole and Grizzley even dropped a music video, which you can check out here. The rest of the features on Post Traumatic, however, are just as exciting. Tee went out and snagged collaborations with a varied batch of artists, including G Herbo, YTB Fatt, and Future. There will also be guest appearances from stars like Hunxho, Tink, Fridayy, Baby Grizzley and Mariah the Scientist.

Tee Grizzley’s Album Is Dropping On October 4

That is a lot of talent for one album. Tee Grizzley talked about the collaborative process for his new album during a recent interview with Complex. He told the outlet that he initially linked up with J. Cole when the latter was touring with Drake. He wanted to make sure they found the perfect instrumental to link up, and “Blow for Blow” proved to be it. “Once we found it, bro, I just knew it was the one,” Grizzley recalled. “And I know that Cole is super talented.” Tee Grizzley also talked about the unique experience of working with Future in the studio.

Tee Grizzley told Complex that Future was full of musical ideas, and could seemingly riff for hours on end. This was a direct contrast to the working methodology of most artists that Grizzley had worked with prior. “What surprised me is he don’t run out,” the rapper explained. “A lot of people be like, ‘All right, it’s time to go.’ He could go. Nothing else really surprised me, I knew it was going to be a great experience. I look at Future as one of the greats.” We can’t wait to hear the album, and how Tee Grizzley sounds next to his impressive roster of features.

Tee Grizzley Joins Forces With J. Cole On New Single And Video “Blow For Blow”

unnamed 10

Gearing up to make a career-defining statement, multiplatinum Detroit rapper Tee Grizzley announced the arrival of his anxiously awaited next full-length album, Post Traumatic, which will be released on October 11.

Tee Grizzley also unleashes a new single entitled “Blow For Blow” featuring J. Cole, out now via Grizzley Gang/300 Entertainment. It notably marks his first collaboration with the two-time GRAMMY® Award-winning chart-dominating North Carolina rap superstar.

Produced by powerhouse Pi’erre Bourne [Drake, Playboi Carti], the track’s synth loop wraps around tense 808s. J. Cole sets the tempo by bodying the beat with raz0r-sharp rhymes. He urges to “proceed with throat-cut procedures, going on to dispense wisdom, “Don’t trust rappers, ho, trust in Jesus. An interpolation of a classic hook by The Notorious B.I.G. effectively passes the ball to Tee, who delivers a showstopping series of bars. He goes on to coronate himself, “I’m a king. You won’t see me drop no tears, and steel his position as untouchable, “If this shit goes left, I’m pulling bread out the floor.” The music video seamlessly projects this spirit on-screen. This dynamic duo rap on top of a building against the New York skyline.

Meanwhile, Post Traumatic sees Tee open up like never before. Thematically, he addresses the effect of past traumas upon the present. Once again, he draws on real-life experiences from a place of wisdom and experience, presenting a blueprint for reform and new beginnings. Getting vulnerable, he also delivers the ultimate homage to Detroit and the Midwest.

J Cole Skates On Stellar New Tee Grizzley Single “Blow For Blow”

J Cole has a bad start to 2024. Despite dropping a solid album, the rapper’s decision to bow out of the “Big Three” beef really put a dent in his legacy. The best thing he could have done is get back to doing what he does best, which is demolish features. He’s done just that. He was stellar on ASAP Rocky’s new song “Ruby Rosary,” and he’s done it again on the new Tee Grizzley single. “Blow for Blow” doesn’t even bother building up hype for Cole’s verse, either. The rapper is actually the one who kicks the song off.

J Cole’s wordplay is superb. He’s got clever bars about LL Cool J, and he even calls back to the iconic Mase flow from “Mo Money Mo Problems.” He’s firing on all cylinders. It won’t take long for rap fans to put together a video highlighting all of the internal rhymes that he’s hidden in here. Tee Grizzley doesn’t have the bars that Cole does, but he makes up for it with charisma. He sounds great over the chilled out beat. He also manages to drop some funny lines about the nastiness of his chain and his cars. As a song, “Blow for Blow” feels more like J Cole than Tee Grizzley. However, we’re just happy to have both of these guys rapping well over a catchy beat.

J. Cole Goes ‘Blow For Blow’ With Tee Grizzley As He Continues Latest Feature Hot Streak

When in doubt, get back to basics. After suffering an embarrassing miscue earlier this year, J. Cole appears to have taken this advice to heart, setting aside attempts to compete with top-grossing peers like Drake and Kendrick Lamar in favor of issuing eyebrow-raising guest verses alongside collaborators such as Daylyt, ASAP Rocky, Tems, and Cash Cobain. You can now add Tee Grizzley to that list. J. Cole goes back in his feature verse bag, tag-teaming a frenetic Pi’erre Bourne production with the Detroit native on “Blow For Blow.” In the accompanying video, two rappers perform on a rooftop while Grizzley gives out game (and hundred-dollar bills) in the hood.

It’s good to hear Cole having fun on records again after his miscalculation in stepping into the match between Drake and Kendrick this spring. Issuing “7 Minute Drill” and retracting it within the span of a weekend turned out to be the rap equivalent of a wrestler running down to the ring with a steel chair in one hand and the Money In The Bank briefcase in the other, only to face plant directly into the case, and sheepishly head back to the locker room without so much as flashing the contract for the championship match. Fortunately, he’s got a tried-and-true recovery plan, and if this current run he’s on turns out to be as impactful as the one from 2022, the hype for The Fall Off won’t suffer too much from his earlier faux pas.

You can watch the video for “Blow For Blow” above.
