SZA & Kendrick Lamar’s Charisma & Chemistry Is On Another Level On “30 For 30”

Just when we thought SZA dropping SOS Deluxe: LANA was going to be more than enough, she stuns fans with another Kendrick Lamar collab. Her former TDE labelmate is the only guest on the brand-new reissue, which contains 15 extra songs. They reconvene on “30 For 30,” the third record in, and its arguably their most charismatic effort together. SZA told British Vogue back in November that LANA was going to effectively be from a more upbeat headspace. You can tell that the mission was carried out on this track for sure. She sounds very expressive and adopts some Kendrick’s vocal acrobatics to some extent.

Even though this is more of relationship-related cut, his part on the chorus (see below), is sure to cause some debate online. We can already envision the theories on how this is a subtle response to Drake’s recent UMG lawsuit. This is just what Kendrick does though (especially now) whenever he hops on another artist’s record. He instantly has everyone gravitating toward what he’s got to say. But outside of that, the song is another phenomenal addition to their joint catalog. It’s their third of the year after SZA assisted him on GNX with “luther” and the closer, “gloria.” Check out “30 For 30” with the “[Via]” link below.

Some of y’all just go talk (Talk)
But none of y’all ain’t really got s***

I swear I’d be at peace if it weren’t for you (Yeah, yeah)

NLE Choppa Continues To Expand His Range On Carey Washington Collab “Don’t Walk Away”

There was some speculation prior to today that NLE Choppa was going to drop a new project. Sluffin SZN was going to be the follow-up to SLUT SZN, an eight-song collection featuring some singles and his “SLUT ME OUT” series. However, due to unforeseen and unforetold circumstances, it’s going to be out on Christmas Eve instead. “NEW PROJECT DECEMBER 24th,” he wrote on Instagram earlier this week alongside a collage of photos from a music video shoot. The Memphis native also made a bold proclamation, writing, “This Generation Michael… Watch This 🥶

In some of the photos, he’s trying to his best interpretation of Michael Jackson’s famous lean dance stunt, all while wearing a familiar-looking leather jacket. Whether he’s calling himself that because of his new single, “Don’t Walk Away,” or for Sluffin SZN, is unclear. But what is evident is that he’s trying to become as big as the King of Pop by expanding his range and reach as an artist. This Carey Washington collab finds NLE getting into his moodier R&B side while also flashing some influences from sexy drill and Jersey club. So far, the track is garnering some mixed reactions from fans due to the drastic stylistic switch-up. However, we can appreciate Choppa’s willingness to grow, and we are intrigued to hear what he’s going to present on his fifth tape of 2024.

Me and you, share the floor
Take my hand for onе more dance

SZA Pours Out Her Emotions & Thoughts On Vibey “Drive” Ahead Of “Lana”

FULL DELUXE DROPS FIRST THING TOMORROW AM🫡,” SZA wrote on Instagram earlier this morning. “(Had to get my mixes right lol! All songs are delivered and Ingesting into the system as we speak🙂↕ pls be kind.. we been up for days).” It’s a bit of disheartening message to hear, but hopefully, it arrives within the next couple of hours. For now, though, the Missouri singer-songwriter is giving listeners a nice preview of what LANA will provide. “Drive” is officially out now on YouTube and it’s the track we got a taste of a couple of days ago. SZA posted a teaser for the track and music video starring her friend Ben Stiller on social media and fans were in love.

We are now hopping on the bandwagon as well because the track is beautiful, sad, and incredibly well written. Its chorus is incredibly catchy and one that will assuredly be belted out in the car by fans on their late-night drives. But it’s much more than a radio-friendly record. “Drive” finds SZA a bit lost as mentions the difficulties she’s having when it comes to being alone despite being a megastar. Moreover, she’s also trying to keep the course and find fulfillment and happiness, which is something that almost everyone can relate to. It’s a nice acoustic ballad and one that will quickly become a fan favorite. You can check it out below and you’ll be pleasantly surprised to hear a snippet of “Crybaby” which will be on LANA as well.

And it don’t hit the same when you’re all alone
And the money’s insane, I know
But it don’t fill the void at all
And I promised my mom I’d do better
But they keep trying me so hard
With all the bulls*** and f*** it all

Tory Lanez Taps His “Twitch Tapes” Vault For Two Moody Cuts

Tory Lanez is switching things up for this week’s edition of his “Lost Tapes” series. Instead of pulling from that vault in particular, the Canadian crooner is dropping off two “Twitch Tapes.” This is subset that he introduced back on the week of August 23, so it’s been quite some time since he’s revisited these tracks. Before getting locked up for a 10-year prison stay, Tory had been previewing snippets upon snippets on livestreaming platforms such as Twitch. Moreover, he’s displayed his off-the-cuff rapping ability on streams with Adin Ross, for example.

So, it’s cool to see Lanez bring these works out for everyone to hear. However, the issue with them is that they are extremely short. “Rodeo Drive,” the first one we got, was just over two minutes long. “Back to Back” and “Blurred,” the new kids on the block, are even shorter. Neither clock in over the 1:50 mark. So, if you like longer material from Tory Lanez, you may be let down by this week’s entries. However, given the rapper’s current situation, it’s amazing that we are even getting new music to begin with. Moreover, both songs are Lanez in his moodier bag. They both focus on sex, relationships, and hedonism, which means there’s a bit more singing than spitting. Check them out at your leisure below.

“Back To Back (Twitch Tapes)” & “Blurred (Twitch Tapes)” – Tory Lanez

Quotable Lyrics From “Blurred”:

I don’t usually spend on no girl that I just ran through

IDK’s “Flow” Lives Up To Its Title And Then Some

IDK is bringing one hard-hitting “FLOW” to his new single. It clocks in at just 1:46, but it’s one of his best pure rapping performances of the year. Right now, there’s no clear intention for what this song is for. There’s a very strong chance that’s a little loosie for the hardcore fans. However, there’s a slimmer possibility that he could be working a deluxe version of his most recent album, BRAVADO + INTiMO. His fifth studio project landed back on Halloween and has received a lot of praise from his supporters. Critically, it has done so-so, but we would be lying if we said there aren’t some solid cuts on the 12-song project.

With the end of the year in sight, if a bonus edition does come, it will most likely be a 2025 release. But we aren’t going to speculate anymore for now. Let’s talk about “FLOW,” because we are really impressed with the pockets he’s hitting. Being able to have a strong command of this skill is vital to any rapper’s success, a point that IDK agrees with right from the jump. “The flow is the answer,” he says on the brief record’s chorus. He’s essentially on a slip-n-slide on “FLOW,” especially with the brisk tempo of the instrumental which is loose and fun. See what the Maryland native is offering up with this one by checking the link out below.

Gunna Mellows Out With Catchy New Single “GOT DAMN”

Gunna has taken lots of hits in the last year. The rapper has done an excellent job of keeping his head down and dropping music that his fans love, though. Gunna serves up consistent music to vibe out to, whether it’s an aggressive vibe or a mellowed out one. “GOT DAMN,” his new single, falls in the second camp. The title may suggest a wild trap anthem, but the song is actually one of the more laid back and contemplative releases Gunna has dropped in quite a while.

The instrumental is minimal and relaxing. It’s catchy in a subtle way. A kick drum coming in and out are pretty much the only variations we get, but it works. Gunna, meanwhile, reflects on his life and the ways in which it can be psychologically draining. The chorus is both catchy and indicative of how exhausted he has been since becoming a star. “On and off the jet, god damn (Damn),” he raps. “I don’t get no rest, god damn (Damn). I want my respect, god damn, I been running up a check, yeah, yeah (Up a check).” Gunna doesn’t drop any dense bars, but he treats fans to cogent bars and a sneaky catchy chorus. We’re eager to see where the rapper goes in 2025.

Snoop Dogg Crafted A Sick Posse Cut 24 Years Ago On “Tha Last Meal” Cut, “Lay Low”

24 years ago today, Snoop Dogg released his final No Limit album and his first Doggy Style release, Tha Last Meal. To celebrate, we’re looking back at the biggest hit off of it, “Lay Low” featuring Master P, Nate Dogg, Tha Eastsidaz, and Butch Cassidy. It’s a pretty straightforward gangster rap cut with a crisp drum beat, resonant piano hits, string samples, and one of Nate’s many smooth and iconic choruses and melodic performances.

However, this time around, this throwback reminiscing is actually pretty fitting. After all, Snoop Dogg just dropped his new Dr. Dre collab album Missionary and is reflecting on his career with some interesting remarks, so it’s only natural that fans would follow suit in this trip down memory lane. Especially for younger hip-hop fans out there, this marks an opportunity for them to learn about Tha Doggfather’s other big records, of which “Lay Low” sits as a highlight on Tha Last Meal.

As much as Snoop Dogg is hip to rap’s current landscape, such as the UMG petition from Drake and rising hip-hop stars like Sexyy Red, there’s nothing like a classic cut like “Lay Low” to keep his legacy alive. A lot of the new material he presents to the contemporary rap world roots itself in these classics, so make sure to do your research before diving into Missionary. This specific era of the Long Beach legend was a turbulent one behind the scenes, but that struggle could not stop these artists’ talent from shining through.

Rob49 Is Ready To Risk It All On Newest Single “On Sight”

Rob49 is keeping his voice fresh in everyone’s ears this year thanks to “On Sight.” It’s one of five solo cuts he’s put out this year and it’s to help out with the fact he’s yet to drop a project in 2024. We could be due for one in 2025 though given the steadiness at which he’s been releasing. For the most part, these recent records have been sticking to a certain vibe. Lately, Rob49 has been operating in the club bangers lane and “On Sight” is a continuation on that.

In this song’s case, he’s rapping about this girl he’s got his sights set on. The feelings he has are intense, raunchy, and sometimes a little overboard. For example, he raps, “Perkies in your a**, that’s some real Perc’ p**sy, uh (Phew).” It’s easily the most throwaway line on the track. However, besides that, it’s a wavy and high octane cut, even if it only lasts less than two minutes. It’s been another nice year for Rob49, as he’s worked with major players like Lil Wayne, Cardi B, and others. But 2025 could be a big stretch for him, especially if he drops another album.

I almost took you from your n**** and never gave you back (Never gave you back), man, yeah

She give good brain like she graduated from Baylor (Yeah)

MadeinTYO Gets Smooth And Soulful On New EP “YOKOSUKA BOY”

MadeinTYO quietly had the busiest year of 2024. Rappers like Future and Kendrick Lamar may have made more noise, but MadeinTYO dropped three full length projects and an EP. That’s some serious work ethic. YOKOSUKA BOY is the latest release from this bunch, and its the shortest by design. The brief length does not reflect a lack of ideas, though. YOKOSUKA BOY EP is a contemplative batch of songs that sees MadeinTYO wax poetic about traveling the world and missing the ones you love.

“Fan mail” details the messages that MadeinTYO receives from fans. It also gives him an opportunity to take stock of his place in the rap game. The things he’s managed to achieve, and the places where he’s fallen short. It’s a surprisingly frank song, and one made all the compelling by its understated deliver. The other songs on the EP follow this understated template. The beats on “fragment levis” and “thinking to myself” are wistful and sweet. They feel at once nostalgic and gnawingly self-aware. MadeinTYO’s lyrics further these conflicting feelings. It’s an emotionally dense and musically lush album. Fans are going to love it. Those unfamiliar with with MadeinTYO’s music will also find plenty to like here if they decide to give it a chance.

Burna Boy Begins New Album Rollout With Infectious Afrobeats Banger “Bundle By Bundle”

Veteran Afrobeats singer and rapper Burna Boy is beginning a new album campaign, and it’s off to a blistering start. The Nigerian act just shared “Bundle By Bundle” moments ago, and it’s already hitting for us. The instrumental is probably the highlight in our eyes, as it’s incredibly rhythmic, exhilarating, and dynamic. It’s a got a steady pace throughout, with some rapid-fire hits of pulsing bass and drums. It’s a great party track and it finds Burna Boy in a braggadocious mindset. He’s seen a lot of success and worldwide acclaim throughout the last decade, and he’s recognizing all of those wins here. As we said, he’s prepping a new LP, and to be exact, it will be his eighth.

According to a press release, the lead single will land on No Sign Of Weakness, with a release date of sometime in 2025. Hopefully, when the new calendar year begins, details will become more ironed out. When the new body of work arrives, it will follow up on his 2023 project, I Told Them… That was a major record for Burna Boy, as he went on to grab features from 21 Savage, J. Cole, Dave, RZA and DZA, and Byron Messia. While he’s ending the year on a fantastic note musically speaking, he’s also looks to be finding a new partner before the ball drops. Over the last 48 hours, Burna Boy has been seen out and about in Lagos with Chloe Bailey. She made her way out over the weekend, with several clips from the last two nights going viral. He’s stacking wins on wins “Bundle By Bundle” some would say.
