Joey Bada$$ Showcases His Growth On New Single “Fallin”

Joey Bada$$ emerged as a prodigy of rap’s golden age. At a young age, he showed that he could rap alongside the best of ‘em. However, the most exciting part of his career is that he never limited himself nor did he allow himself to become boxed in. Joey experienced great success in the world of television and film, even earning an Academy Award for his role in Two Distant Strangers. These days, you could catch him in shows like Power Book III: Raising Kanan.

However, Joey continues to keep his foot on the gas with new music. Last year, the rapper blessed fans with 2000, the successor to his debut mixtape, 1999. His latest project further showcased his growth as both an MC and an artist as a whole. He teamed up with a slew of stars including Chris Brown and Diddy to bring the project to life. Joey Bada$$ hasn’t mentioned the release of a deluxe edition recently but he evidently has more heat in the stash.

Joey Bada$$ Unveils “Fallin”

Joey’s pen is no joke but he proved that it expands outside of just writing raps when he revealed that he co-wrote on Post Malone’s “Rockstar.” However, with the release of his new single, “Fallin,” Joey showcases his growth further. The rapper taps into his R&B bag through slow, sultry production that he pairs with smooth melodies as he reflects on love and lust. Joey truly is a generational talent and “Fallin” showcases this at its best.

Besides the new single, Joey Bada$$ recently announced that he’ll be hitting the road this month. The New York rapper announced that he’ll be joining Wiz Khalifa on the Good Trip tour presented by the Smoker’s Club. The run kicks off in Kalamazoo, MI on April 15th before closing things out in Morrison, CO on April 22nd. Though it’s a short stint, fans will have the opportunity to hear “Fallin,” as well as other songs from 2000, live. Quotable Lyrics
It was lovе at the first time you let me hit it raw
If I shine, then we both shine, but let you shine more
Go above, beyond for her, my machete mi amore
Fuck who you was with before

JID Is $2,000 Answer On “Jeopardy!”

JID recently entered another echelon of rap royalty, as he was an answer for a $2,000 question on Jeopardy! Moreover, the question was in the “Fight Songs” category and was the highest-scoring question in that field. Furthermore, the question posited a prompt and asked players to try to guess which rapper’s song they referenced. While many fans of the Atlanta MC might expect an established classic like “NEVER” or “Off Deez,” the prompt actually mentioned one of his biggest pop crossover collaborations. “‘Who the baddest?’” the prompt read. “‘It don’t matter ’cause we at your throat,’ this 3-letter guy raps on ‘Enemy,’ his collaboration with Imagine Dragons.”

After the show runners revealed the question, one player in particular was lightning-quick to give the correct answer. Justin exclaimed “Who’s JID?” as he laughed and gave a big smile to the host. “That’s right, you’re excited,” she replied. Given that the 32-year-old had arguably the best album of last year, it’s no wonder his fans feel so passionately about him. This joins the ranks of other famous rappers and rap songs who’ve appeared on the enduringly popular game show. However, JID’s inclusion is likely one of the most recent hip-hop references in the show’s history.

JID Joins The Jeopardy! Ranks

Furthermore, the “Workin Out” MC is also getting other extracurricular achievements under his belt. For example, he recently released the first single to Dreamville’s upcoming Creed III soundtrack. The track “Ma Boy” also features label mate Lute over an energetic and chilling beat. Both lyricists also display their talents with the pen as two of the collective’s most accomplished writers, which is saying a lot. While the soundtrack drops next week on the film’s theatrical release date of March 3rd, Bas just dropped another single for the project with Black Sheriff and Kel-P.

Meanwhile, many fans are hoping that JID gets back to one of his other trademark talents: freestyling. Recently, he revealed that Funk Flex’s meager response to his off-the-dome display dissuaded him from engaging in them again. However, after the legendary DJ called him one of his favorite rappers right now, it seems the two might run it back soon. Still, stick around on HNHH to hear the latest news, updates, and accomplishments from the one and only JID.

Joey Badass Says He Drew From Real-Life Experiences For His ‘Power Book III’ Role

Ahead of the season premiere of Power Book III: Raising Kanan tonight, Joey Badass spoke with HipHopDX about his role. On the show, Joey plays a drug kingpin named Kadeem “Unique” Mathis.

Joey‘s performance has received much praise, and in the interview, he said he drew from real-life experiences of witnessing drug deals growing up in the Bed-Stuy neighborhood of Brooklyn.

“I always been around that stuff, but I never took that path because it was right there,” Joey said. “I wanted to challenge myself to do other things, and then I had good older cousins and family that pushed me to not do that because they were doing it. It would’ve been easy for me to do it, but they wanted to see better for their little cousin and nephew…So it was easy to just kind of pull from those experiences that I’ve had or those observations that I made as a kid.”

Over the years, Joey has built an impressive acting resume, with stints on Mr. Robot, Grown-ish, and Wu-Tang: An American Saga. Elsewhere in the interview, Joey said that acting, to him, comes as easily as making music.

“Acting, in general, comes pretty instinctively to me…just in a way where you kind of go somewhere else. Like on that stage, I gotta go into superstar mode. I’m still here but it’s like a superstar hangover, but when I’m home, it’s a different vibe where I’m chill.”

Season 2 of Power Book III: Raising Kanan premieres tonight at 9 p.m. EST on Starz.

Joey Badass Says He, Kendrick Lamar, And J. Cole, Are ‘The Holy Trinity’ On A New Song, ‘The Baddest’

After a month-long delay, Joey Badass‘ third studio album, 2000, has arrived. While he is known for taking a long hiatus between projects, Joey reminds from the very beginning that he is among the greats, and he’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

On 2000‘s opening track, Joey lets us know that he believes that he, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole are currently the best rappers alive.

“F*ck your favorite, I’m the greatest / They never could degrade us and I did it with no major/ I made a lane for [rappers] by going my own way / I paved the way for a lot of these rappers you see today / So act like you know, b*tch, I’ve been had the flow, penetrating souls / Who the best MCs? Kenny, Joey, and Cole / The holy trinity, it’s that nine-fives in affinity / Energy knowing when I’m gone and forever remember me,” he raps over a piano-driven Erick The Architect-produced track.”

Neither Kendrick nor Cole have responded to the track, however, fans have noticed that the line is reminiscent to a line from “Where I’m From,” a cut from Jay-Z’s 1997 album In My Lifetime, Vol. 1, in which Jay raps, “Who’s the best MCs, Biggie, Jay-Z or Nas?”

Joey Badass Travels The World In His Vintage ‘Zipcodes’ Video

Joey Badass is keeping the pressure on leading up to his delayed yet highly-anticipated album, 2000. This week he drops off his latest single “Zipcodes,” which finds the rapper having a blast in New York City but also traversing countries overseas. Regardless of what time zone or zip code he is in, the bars are copious.

“Zipcodes” follows “Survivors Guilt” from last week, in addition to “Where I Belong,” “Head High,” and “The Revenge.” Joey also joined Chance the Rapper on “The Highs & The Lows” and the two performed the record at the 2022 BET Awards at the end of June. This all may not be entirely fulfilling for fans, who anticipated the album coming on June 17 before being delayed due to sample clearance issues. Many suspected the true reason he pushed the album back was because of Drake’s surprise LP Honestly, Nevermind, but Joey denounced that speculation. 2000 would be the 27-year-old’s first solo release since 2017’s All-Amerikkkan Bada$$.

In the interim, he joined Beast Coast and Flatbush Zombies on the 2019 project Escape From New York and appeared on a slew of features in 2021. There is still no confirmation as to when 2000 will hit DSPs, but Joey Badass is making sure to not leave the fans completely devoid of any music for the time being.

Joey Badass Has ‘Survivors Guilt’ In His Mournful Ode To The Late Capital Steez

Back in 2012, when a 17-year-old Joey Badass dropped his star-making mixtape 1999, one of his closest compatriots in the Pro Era crew was Capital Steez, who featured with him on the song “Survival Tactics.” Two years later, Steez was gone after committing suicide by jumping from a rooftop. Since then, his friends have kept his memory alive with their annual Steez Day music festival but that hasn’t stopped Joey from feeling the residual effects. He tackles those thoughts head-on in his new song “Survivors Guilt,” a mournful ode to his late friend.

“Steezy told me get ’em so I got em / Now my n**** gone, he will never be forgotten,” Joey raps. “Ever since he left I’ve just been struggling without him.” He also admits to feeling guilty for not being there for his friend when he needed him, rhyming, “Then I caught a little wave and headed back to shore / And that’s when he started drowning / And he had no one around him / So partially I feel it’s my fault.”

After “Where I Belong,” “Survivors Guilt” is the second single Joey put out in preparation for the release of his album, 2000, the spiritual successor to 1999, which was postponed due to sample clearance issues. In the meantime, Joey has also offered guess verses to Chance The Rapper’s new single “The Highs And The Lows” and Black Thought’s “Because” with Danger Mouse and Russ.

Joey Badass Finds Comfort In ‘Where I Belong’ On His Reaffirming New Single

A month ago, the world expected to receive Joey Badass’ long-awaited third album 2000 by now. It’s a body of work that many have waited for since the Brooklyn rapper released his sophomore album, All Amerikkkan Badass, back in 2017. Five long years have gone by, and we still haven’t been able to enjoy Joey’s third album. That’s because he was forced to delay it due to sample clearance issues. Luckily, that problem has been resolved and there is a new release date. Additionally, Joey aims to numb the wait for the project with a brand new single.

Joey returns with “Where I Belong,” the third single from 2000. It joins previously heard records “The Revenge” and “Head High,” on it Joey takes a moment to reaffirm his positon in hip-hop, a well-timed decision with his third album on the horizon. He takes a quick trip through time to account for and remind others of all that he’s accomplished. The track also arrives with the video that captures Joey Badass in his stomping grounds as he visits his old apartment and a skate park nearby before showing off his mansion and bragging about the art within it.

Along with the song’s release, Joey confirms that 2000 will arrive on July 22, leaving just three weeks until listeners finally get their hands on the project. Through the rollout for 2000, Joey has been anything but quiet. He recently teamed up with Chance The Rapper for “The Highs & The Lows,” a record they later performed at the 2022 BET Awards. He also delivered a boisterous freestyle over Mobb Deep on Funk Flex.

You can listen to “Where I Belong” in the video above.

2000 is out 7/22 via Pro Era / Cinematic Music Group. You can pre-save it here.

Joey Badass Denies That He Pushed Back ‘2000’ Because Of Drake’s Album: ‘I F*x With This New Drake’

On the heels of Drake’s new surprise release album, Honestly, Nevermind, fans are suspecting the reason Joey Badass pushed back his album, 2000, is so he wouldn’t be in direct competition with Drake.

This past Thursday, before Drake had even announced the album, Joey took to Twitter to explain that 2000 wouldn’t be released this week, as originally planned.

“Man I got some terrible news,” he said. “my album won’t be coming out tonight due to sample clearance issues. Right now, it’s unclear how long I’ll have to postpone it but my hope is no more than 2 weeks. I wanted to have a new date before I told you guys but it’s out of my control.”

He continued, saying, “I’ll keep you guys updated obviously, I’m almost certain I’ll have a new date by Monday.”

Following the announcement of Honestly, Nevermind, fans theorized that this may have been a cover-up to hide the fact that he pushed it back as not to compete with Drake. Joey has since taken to Twitter to deny these rumors, saying, “Y’all thinking I pushed my album back because drake is comedy. Can’t say I ain’t happy tho hahaha.”

He later showed praise for the album, saying, “I f*x with this new drake tho.”

Had 2000 come out as originally planned, it would’ve coincided with the 10th anniversary of Joey’s breakthrough mixtape, 1999. As of now, there is no confirmed release date for 2000.

Joey Badass Reveals That His New Album, ‘2000,’ Has Been Postponed Due To Sample Clearance Issues

It looks like we may have to wait a little longer for Joey Badass’ new album, 2000. The album, originally set for release this week, has been pushed back.

Joey revealed the news this morning via Twitter.

“Man I got some terrible news,” he said in a tweet. “my album won’t be coming out tonight due to sample clearance issues… Right now, it’s unclear how long I’ll have to postpone it but my hope is no more than 2 weeks.”

It appears Joey had known about the delay for a while, however, was hoping he’d have a new date by now.

“I wanted to have a new date before I told you guys but it’s out of my control,” he continued.

The release of 2000 would’ve coincided with the 10th anniversary of Joey’s breakthrough mixtape, 1999, which spawned hits like “Waves” and “Hardknock.” Joey did not reveal a new release date for 2000, however, hopes to be able to share a new one soon.

“I’ll keep you guys updated obviously,” Joey said. “I’m almost certain I’ll have a new date by Monday. On the bright side, me and Chance’s new song drops tmrw.”

The song to which Joey is referring is Chance The Rapper’s new single, “The Highs And The Lows,” which is thought to appear from Chance’s upcoming comeback album.
