D Smoke And SiR Enjoy The Fruits Of Their Labor With ‘Work Hard Play Hard’

The Farris brothers are back at it. D Smoke, who has expanded his artistic portfolio with an acting role in the Paramount Plus series The Mayor Of Kingstown, returns to his day job with “Work Hard Play Hard,” a laid-back new single that celebrates his success with the help of his younger brother SiR. As he’s done in the past, Smiddoke raps in both English and Spanish, surveying and contrasting the difficulties of labor and the pleasures of the payoff.

Both brothers would certainly know a thing or two about that. While D Smoke has slowly but surely risen in stature in the rap world behind his appearance in Netflix’s Rhythm + Flow, the Inglewood rapper continued his independent grind, dropping beloved bangers like “Say Go” and “Crossover” with Westside Boogie. Meanwhile, SiR has been slowly rolling out the successor to his 2019 album Chasing Summer with singles such as “Life Is Good” and “Nothing Even Matters.

Neither has yet announced an album but with their increased activity in recent months, it’s likely safe to say that such an announcement can’t be too far away. In the meantime, you can enjoy the Inglewood natives’ newest single “Work Hard Play Hard” in the video above.

Ab-Soul Lights Up “Herbert” Ft. Big Sean, Jhené Aiko, SiR, Punch & More

When Top Dawg Entertainment shoots, they never miss, and Ab-Soul continues his reign with Herbert. The California icon is back with his first project in six years, and it is an offering that once again highlights Ab’s talents. Artists like Jhené Aiko, Big Sean, Joey Bada$$, SiR, and even TDE’s president Punch make appearances on the record. It’s a lyrical giant from one track to the next, and fans have already taken to social media to dissect his bars.

Once again, Ab gets personal in his rhymes, and in a recent interview, he was asked if it is “invasive” for strangers to treat the rapper as if they know him.

“No. That’s fine. But that’s why this album is for everyone who’s not a fan of mine that really knows me,” he told Vulture. “This album is for them. But it’s kind of in an organic, creative way. It’s one of those things where it still ends up translating universally, even as I’m talking specifically to my close friends and family.”

Additionally, it looks as if we’re about to get a one-on-one interview between Charlamagne Tha God and Ab. A teaser of the intimate chat was shared by the rapper and it looks as if he’s addressing just about everything with the famed radio host.

SiR Celebrates A Special Woman In His New Song And Video, ‘Nothing Even Matters’

Inglewood singer and rapper SiR is gearing up for the release of his hotly anticipated third major-label album, Heavy. Ahead of the album, he has shared a new song, “Nothing Even Matters,” an ode to a special woman in his life.

The song samples “Nothing Even Matters” by Lauryn Hill and D’Angelo and interpolates “Mad Issues” by Angie Stone, while maintaining original, fresh production.

“I can’t get enough / Hard to believe I even found your love / Diamond in the rough / Light up the dark like the fire I’m sparkin’ up / Baby, when we touch / Nothin’ even matters, no one loves me better / I want this forever,” he sings on the song’s chorus.

The song’s accompanying video contains all the elements of iconic R&B music videos of the late ’90s and early 2000s, including elaborate choreography, dancing in empty warehouses, and performing in the desert.

SiR detailed his upcoming album in an interview with Okayplayer. He noted that he took an even more raw and personal approach to his songwriting this time around.

“I always come from a very transparent, vulnerable place,” he said. “I definitely was just trying to be as honest as possible. I was writing songs that I needed to write. It was my therapy, almost, because I had nothing else to do. All I had was music and my home life.”
