Prosecutors Seeking 13 Years For Tory Lanez In Megan Thee Stallion Shooting

Prosecutors in Los Angeles are reportedly seeking 13 years in prison for Tory Lanez regarding the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez was found guilty on three felony charges, last December, and faces a maximum of 22 years and eight months in prison. Independent journalist Meghann Cuniff shared a memorandum online that the prosecution filed on Tuesday.

“Words have power and the pen is oftentimes mightier than the sword. In this case, Daystar Peterson [Lanez’s legal name] used both,” the memo read. “Not content to have hurt the victim by use of his sword (gun), he also used his pen. His online posts for nearly three years have re-traumatized the victim.”

The memo adds: “His online reach is worldwide (millions of followers plus casual observers) and the defendant’s statements embolden his followers so that they too have been complicit in re-traumatizing the victim. He is responsible for the effect of his words and his actions.” Later, it cites the release of Lanez’s album, Daystar, and the fact he references the shooting in the lyrics. The memo also brings up his attack on August Alsina in Chicago in September 2022 as another example of his lack of remorse.

The prosecution’s memo arrives after Lanez and his legal team filed to disqualify Judge David Herriford while alleging he displayed favoritism. Herriford presided over Lanez’s two-week trial in December and also recently rejected the rapper’s motion for a new trial. Herriford shot down the accusations in a written order when Lanez filed the motion. “All rulings made by me in this action have been based upon facts and arguments officially presented to me and upon my understanding of the law,” he said. “All statements made by me and all actions taken by me in this proceeding have been done in furtherance of what I believe were my judicial duties.” Lanez’s sentencing will go down on June 13.

Tory Lanez Attempts To Disqualify Judge Over Favoritism

Tory Lanez and his legal team, comprised of lawyers Matthew Barhoma and Jose Baez, have filed a motion to disqualify Judge David Herriford. They claim the Los Angeles County Superior Court judge has shown favoritism to the prosecution. In addition to presiding over Lanez’s two-week trial in December, he also rejected the rapper’s motion for a new trial.

“Conversely, the judge gave the People a full and fair opportunity to present argument uninterrupted, even when the case cited by the People did not stand for the proposition that they advanced,” the defense attorneys wrote in their filing.

They continued: “Together, these facts reveal such a high degree of favoritism or antagonism as to make fair judgment impossible. Given these facts, a reasonable person would fairly entertain doubts concerning the judge’s impartiality. As a result, disqualification is required.”

Herriford previously dismissed accusations of favoritism in a written order at the time Lanez filed a motion for a new trial.“I am not prejudiced or biased against or in favor of any party to this proceeding or their counsel,” he wrote at the time. “All rulings made by me in this action have been based upon facts and arguments officially presented to me and upon my understanding of the law. … All statements made by me and all actions taken by me in this proceeding have been done in furtherance of what I believe were my judicial duties.”

A jury found Lanez guilty on three felony counts in regard to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion in December. He faces a maximum of 22 years and eight months in prison. Prosecutors have been open about wanting a harsh sentence for Lanez. They argue he “demonstrated a high level of callousness” with the shooting and the court should punish him accordingly. His sentencing will go down on June 13.

Gunman Storms NYC Restaurant, 1 Injured

Yesterday afternoon, a gunman entered a Queens restaurant and opened fire, leaving several guests running for cover. Footage obtained by the Long Island City restaurant’s security camera shows the gunman storming into the Boishakhi Restaurant wearing a red hoodie. As he wields his gun, various patrons, including a couple with a young child, are also seen running down a nearby staircase to safety.

One man was shot in the buttocks, and later taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition. Though the motive of the gunman is currently unclear, he seemed to chase his victim in the footage. “My body is shaking,” a restaurant worker claimed following the attack. “I [heard] the sounds, but didn’t know if it was a shot or something,” he added, revealing that he was in the back of the restaurant at the time of the shooting. The gunman and the victim reportedly knew each other, and the victim was his target.

Conway The Machine Says He Dealt With “Severe Anxiety” At His Album Release Party

Conway The Machine says that he’s become a “recluse” and dealt with “severe anxiety” while attending his album release party for Won’t He Do It. Appearing on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast, he explained that he hasn’t been the same in social situations since getting shot in 2012.

“I don’t know because I’m just a recluse. I’ll be like just dolo to myself,” he said. “I think that came from getting shot.” He added that he doesn’t enjoy going to clubs or partying anymore: “So I’m looking at clubs like, ‘I don’t go out man. I ain’t going to that party, I ain’t going to that event, I don’t want to do that anymore. ‘What time the interview? 10:30? Naw, I’m good bro. I’m chilling, I’m already inside.’”

I hate videos, I hate pictures and cameras and shit,” Conway said. “Speaking with a therapist and she made me realize ‘you haven’t healed yet.’”

Conway further admitted that he even began to doubt his place in hip-hop. “This shit look like n****s aint fucking with me. Because I don’t get outside. Not because I can’t, I just don’t,” he said, while adding that “the love was definitely felt” at his Won’t He Do It release party. “I was having severe anxiety about that night,” he added. “But then I pulled up and seen all the love, everybody had pulled up.”

Duvy Facing Charges In 2022 North York Murder: Report

Little more than a year after delivering his debut album, GRASSWAYZ, CP24 reports that Toronto-based rapper Duvy has been arrested. The 21-year-old was taken into custody in connection with a 2022 fatal shooting in the city’s North York area. Police reports claim that on October 6, officers responded to a call at 5 Needle Firway around 1:40 PM. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and has since been identified as 28-year-old Osman Bangura.

Duvy appeared in court earlier today (May 27), but no further updates are available at this time. Investigating authorities are asking anyone with information to consider coming forward or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously. If the rising star did commit the crime, it would’ve taken place months after his 12-track, almost featureless debut hit DSPs. At the time, titles like “Clear the Spot,” “Shlime Talk,” and “Nightmare Z” were helping him make a name for himself amongst the other artists coming up out of the 6ix.

Duvy Charged in Osman Bangura’s 2022 Death

The only artist to appear on GRASSWAYZ alongside Duvy is Vory, who joined him for the opening track, “Thugz Don’t Cry.” Speaking with Complex about his album (which is based on his childhood), the former said, “It’s is a lot like every other neighborhood. It’s dangerous. There’s a lot of ups and downs. You see a lot of people change. But if you’re not from there, the only thing I would tell you is not to come here. You know what I mean?”

Prior to his arrest, the “Barcelona” lyricist had been delivering heat in 2023 as well. He teamed up with Waveroom and SDawg17shit for “Bloody Mary,” shared a solo effort, “Ladders,” and dropped off the deluxe cut of How Did I End Up Here in between. It remains unclear what the next steps in the ongoing murder investigation are, but the news certainly puts a hold on any big plans the Canadian may have had for the upcoming summer months. YSL RICO Co-Defendant, Cordarius Dorsey, Charged With Murder In 2020 Shooting

The long-spanning YSL RICO trial has taken yet another unexpected turn, according to a new report from AllHipHop. It seems that a co-defendant of Young Thug’s, Cordarius Dorsey, is facing murder charges after being accused of killing Xavier Arlandor Turner in January 2020. The Slaughter Gang member is already serving a life sentence for partaking in a 2019 slaying, for which he was granted no parole.

Documents claim that Dorsey shot Turner and another man at the Old National Village Discount Mall. At the time, the group reportedly got into an altercation with the alleged killer, and after firing his weapon, he fled the scene in a black Nissan. Aside from these new charges, it’s also been argued by authorities that the YSL member was part of a “violent gang” under Young Thug’s leadership, during which time he aided in various violent crimes across metro Atlanta.

This isn’t the only troubling headline we’ve heard from the Fulton County courtroom in recent weeks. Several of the public defenders involved in the trial previously came forward with complaints about being severely underpaid. While one told the media he could bring in more money from working at a fast food restaurant, another said that she’s considering starting an OnlyFans profile seeing as she’s unable to take on any other clients at this time.

Thankfully, the hardworking attorneys were granted a substantial pay raise, though they still have plenty of work ahead of them. Aside from that, we’ve also had another co-defendant involved in the trial be officially severed after receiving a schizophrenia diagnosis. Prior to that, he publicly claimed to be receiving aid from Donald Trump, causing many to question his sanity. Do you think that Young Thug will ever be a free man again? Let us know in the comments, and tap back in later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

50 Cent Didn’t Want Tony Yayo To Visit Him In Hospital

There is a timeline where 50 Cent didn’t become the rapper that we know today. Days before the release of Power of the Dollar, 50 Cent was shot multiple times. The culprit was never named but was described as a “low-level drug dealer”. However, 50 Cent pulled through and would go on to release Get Rich Or Die Trying in 2003.

One of 50’s closest friends is rapper and fellow G-Unit member, Tony Yayo. Furthermore, given the severity of 50’s injuries, you would expect Tony Yayo to visit him in the hospital. However, in a recent interview, Yayo explained why he didn’t visit his close friend in the hospital.

50 Wanted to Protect Tony Yayo

Speaking on Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson, the podcast hosted by the former champion boxer, Yayo went into detail about the shooting and the aftermath. “They was like, ‘You next, Yayo, they gon’ kill you!’” he recalled after 50 got shot. “And 50’s still shot up. I’m like, ‘Damn, I’mma die? N-ggas gonna kill me out here!’ I gotta move safe, right?”Yayo continued. “But 50 was always a thinker, right? Because when he was in the hospital, he didn’t want me to see him shot the fuck up, all banged up, you know? But I’m like, ‘Yo, why you didn’t want me to see you?’ And the n-gga was like, ‘Because it will fuck with your mental. It would have made you scared seein’ me fucked up like that.’”

Other people have spoken about 50’s mentality, which explains his approach to Yayo. “When it comes to 50, there is something about him that’s different,” author Robert Greene said. “There is an energy and I think the energy is his realistic outlook. He’s not someone who wants to get high all the time and just live in this fantasy world and imagine having money. He’s extremely realistic when he looks at the world, and I think actually he got that from his mother, to be honest with you. His father was a drug dealer, a hustler, who was killed when he was I believe nine years old. She had that kind of hardcore mentality.”

Sheff G & Sleepy Hallow Among 32 Arrested In Brooklyn Shootings

Rappers Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow are among 32 alleged gang members who were arrested in connection to a string of Brooklyn shootings on Tuesday. The indictment alleges the defendants are all members of 8 Trey Crips and its affiliate, the 9 Ways gang. They allegedly committed shootings, possessed guns, and stole cars, all to eliminate rivals that included members of Folk Nation Gangster Disciples and ICG Babiiez. Altogether the indictment mentions 27 acts of violence, 12 of which are shootings.

“The senseless gun violence, allegedly committed by these defendants, terrorized our neighbors for years and left more than a dozen people with serious injuries. It is distressing to know that some of the violence was allegedly fueled by a young man who used money he made from a successful music career to allegedly pay for and encourage acts of violence,” Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez said as noted by ABC7.

As for Sheff G in particular, the indictment accuses him of offering up money and expensive jewelry in exchange for the commission of violent acts. In one alleged incident, Sheff G organized a crew of three shooters, drove them to a crime scene, and then acted as the getaway driver.

“Sheff G became a prominent member of this gang and became central to our investigation,” Gonzalez said during a news conference. “Sheff G used a lot of the money that he earned to facilitate further gang activity. He encouraged gang members to participate in violent crimes.”

A shooting on October 21, 2020, left Theodore Senior, 23, dead as well as five other Folk Nation members shot and injured. For that attack, authorities are charging Sheff G with being part of the conspiracy to commit murder. Authorities alleged Sheff G hosted a lavish dinner at a Manhattan steakhouse to celebrate Senior’s death alongside eight of his associates.
