Saweetie’s New Single “NANi” Is Here And Yes, It Slaps

Saweetie has had a tough few years. The rapper was dragged for selling a startling low number of her debut EP, The Single Life, in 2022. Then she was pulled into the Chris Brown and Quavo feud when the former implied that she cheated on the Migos rapper with him. It’s all been very messy, and focused on the personal rather than the professional. Saweetie needed a song to redirect the focus of the public to her music. Her new single, “NANi,” should do the trick.

Saweetie previewed the song on March 30. She posted a video of her dancing by a swimming pool, and fans flooded the comment section claiming that she needed to drop it before the summer. She obliged, and it’s very likely that “NANi” will be getting lots of spin over the next few months. The instrumental is incredibly catchy, with a bouncy drum pattern made for club settings. It feels like a bit of a throwback to the DJ Mustard-type beats that were dominating the charts in the early 2010s.

It would feel right at home next to “Show Me” by Kid Ink and say, “Loyal” by Chris Brown (DJ Mustard produced the former). Given that the producer just scored a number one single with Kendrick Lamar, it’s not a bad sound to emulate. The lyrics aren’t anything special, but the chorus has an earworm quality to it. “Ooh, got that nani, nani, nani,” Saweetie raps. “How she walk through, swingin’ that body, Yellin’, Who gon’ stop me? You ain’t got the time to clock me.” The song is fun, and it gets the job done.

Saweetie Throws A Pool Party For The Girls In Her New Video For ‘Nani’

Saweetie is always going to give us something fun, something for the summertime, and something for the girls to get ready and party to. Tonight (May 17), she has shared her new single, “Nani,” a pretty girl anthem celebrating herself and the embracing the sisterly love around her.

On the breezy track, Saweetie is ready to tear up the night, and she isn’t going to call it quotes early. She plans to take it to the “Plane, sprinter, glam, to the club, backdoor section, shots, another club /Two shows, one night,” as she notes on the song’s pre-hook.

“‘Nani’ is a record about empowering yourself to walk through any room you enter feeling beautiful, confident and unstoppable,” said Saweetie in the statement. “Commit to the work, get the bag and have fun doing it!”

In the song’s accompanying video, Saweetie is seen throwing a fun pool party for her girls, before leveling it up and taking it to the bar and the club.

We can always rely on Saweetie for a confident, feel-good hit. In recent months, we’ve seen her star in guest roles on show’s like BMF and serve as a mentor on The Voice. As she’s seemingly been everywhere on-screen, we’ll likely hear “Nani” everywhere this summer.

YG Called Out For Creeping On Teyana Taylor Despite Being With Saweetie

YG and Saweetie may have fended off breakup rumors, but it might take a little bit longer for the former to evade the thirst trap police. Moreover, he recently commented on a clip of Teyana Taylor posing sultrily with lingerie, and while the comment wasn’t overtly flirty, the “after hours” context of the video doesn’t leave too much room for interpretation. “4am in Cannes,” she captioned the video, whereas the West Coast MC had the following message for her in the comments section: “Go to sleep gang.” We wonder whether his boo thinks there’s something deeper here or if she knows that he doesn’t mean anything by it.

However, this also comes amid new reflections and phases for Teyana Taylor’s previous romance, that of her ex husband Iman Shumpert. He commented on her Met Gala fit earlier this month, and some fans thought that this was a sign that things were looking better for the two. Still, if you were around when they announced their months-long separation last year, you know that they made their amicable status pretty clear. There were some bumps along that road for sure, but there’s not much reason to assume that they aren’t on good terms right now.

As for YG and Saweetie, they are still going strong in their relationship and in their careers, even if some folks have differing opinions on the quality of their musical offerings. We’ll see what’s in store for the couple down the road, whether that means more team-ups on wax or instances of free-form trap-thirsting on social media. Either way, they seem like they’re having fun and enjoying each other’s company right now, and hopefully that’s an upward trend. Maybe one day, they’ll joke about this 4AM comment, as they don’t seem particularly distant from Teyana Taylor, either.

Meanwhile, the Icy Girl is tired of social media confusing her for other femcees, even though she expressed as such while showing love to her fellow artists. She’s got a big new single coming up to contend for a smash hit, and YG and Saweetie are always pretty successful in this mode. Thanks to a recent social media tease in which Saweetie and Bobbi Althoff put together some awkward dance moves in front of a pool to the former’s new anticipated single, a lot of folks think that they could have an interview on the way. Moreover, it would follow a lot of the usual hype-up for an Althoff sit-down, and the link-up seems a little too out of the blue to not involve something grander. Still, maybe they are just really getting along and wanted to show themselves having some fun online, and that wouldn’t be a bad thing at all. We’ll see if there are similar talking points or contentious moments that result of this hypothetical conversation like the ones that have came up in the past.

Furthermore, Bobbi Althoff’s interviews lean towards slight awkwardness in the public eye given her comedic style, and as of late, they inspired a lot more debate such as her viral “I’m not a musician” moment with Sukihana. Perhaps a convo with Saweetie will hold another miscommunication instance like this, although we’re sure that it would still be an entertaining one to witness even if it’s a completely normal and chilled-out sit-down. Despite Chris Brown and Quavo dragging her name through the mud in their response diss tracks to each other, Saweetie and her partner YG are seemingly partying through it all. Moreover, they recently went on a club outing for one of Power 106‘s anniversary parties on Thursday night (April 25). While it’s obviously impossible to assume their attitudes, mental spaces, and moods with just one clip, it seems like they were at least relaxed and just happy to be there. Whether or not they’re actually worrying about this situation or whether it’s caused a bump on their journey, they’re certainly not letting the cameras find out.

Furthermore, for those unaware, Saweetie actually responded to Quavo mentioning that he can turn any model into her by posting a screenshot of an alleged DM that the former Migo sent her back in January, which she still hadn’t opened. He hasn’t responded to this move publicly at press time, and we wonder whether or not he thought that his bars would come across as more defensive than mocking. Regardless, she hasn’t really said much about Chris Brown and about how he claimed to have slept with her while she was with Quavo in the first place, opening up this whole can of worms. This is all mostly speculative, but you can start to see where the tea really gets interesting in this whole debacle.

The back and forth on wax between R&B crooner Chris Brown and Migos member Quavo has taken another unexpected turn with another involved party; Quavo’s ex-girlfriend and Brown’s former fling Saweetie.

The “My Type” rapper took to X(formerly Twitter) after her former beau dropped his “H*es & Bitches” diss response aimed at Brown. In the song, Quavo rapped, “I can take a model bitch and make a Saweetie, n-gga,” insinuating that he turned her into the successful artist she is today.

Saweetie hit back by posting a screenshot of an unopened DM from Quavo, but the preview of the message reads, “Damn. We used to mean af to each…” Saweetie cynically captioned the screenshot, “Hopefully the model he turns into me replies.”

Brown used the failed relationship between the two in his weaponized bars against the “Bad And Boujee” rapper, claiming to have slept with her while Quavo was still with her.

“You fucked my ex-ho, that’s cool, I don’t give no fuck, lil n-gga/ ‘Cause I fucked yo’ ex when you were still with her, bitch, I’m up, lil n-gga,” CB rapped.

Saweetie Puts Quavo On Blast With Embarrassing DM

Quavo is having a rough week. The Migos rapper had to stand by while Chris Brown dropped the diss track “Weakest Link” to positive reception from fans. He clapped back with “Over Hoes & B*tches” on April 22, but it did not get the same love as Breezy’s. Some felt Quavo relied too heavily on the feature from the late Takeoff, while others thought the rapper failed to dig up any real dirt on Brown. It gets worse. The same day “Over Hoes & B*tches” dropped, Saweetie hopped on X (formerly Twitter) to disprove one of Quavo’s claims.

Saweetie has become a central figure in the Quavo versus Brown feud. While Karreuche Tran was previously the focus, due to the fact that she dated both artists, Saweetie has been referenced in both “Weakest Link” and “Over Hoes & B*tches.” In the former, Brown claimed to have slept with the rapper while she was still dating Quavo. In the latter, Quavo claims he doesn’t care. “I can take a model b*tch and make a Saweetie, n**ga,” he raps, with the implication being that she’s replaceable. It’s a less than stellar bar, and one that Saweetie was more than happy to upend.

Saweetie Shared Instagram Receipts With Fans

The rapper posted a screenshot of her Instagram DMs, and one of the messages left on read was from none other than Quavo. The entirety of the message is unclear, but the first couple words read: “Damn. We used to mean af to each…” Saweetie posted a withering caption with the screenshot, making it clear that she meant more to Quavo than he’s letting on. “Hopefully the model he turns into me replies,” she wrote. Saweetie and Quavo dated for three years before breaking up in March 2021.

Saweetie talked about their relationship during an appearance on Caresha Please. She skirted around the question of whether or not Quavo cheated on her, and ultimately chalked their split up to differences. “I thought we was gonna spend the rest of our lives together,” she admitted. “With him, I knew it was the one. It was different.” Ironically, the two rappers first connected when Quavo DM’d Saweetie on IG in 2018, which means this new DM drama brings things full circle. Saweetie Revealed Why She Never Released Her Highly Anticipated ‘Barbie Girl’-Sampling Song, ‘Icy Girl, Icy World’

One of the biggest songs of 2023 was Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj’s song “Barbie World,” which interpolated Aqua’s 1997 hit “Barbie Girl.” However, it wasn’t the only song to sample that song. In 2022, Saweetie previewed a clip of her own song, “Icy Girl, Icy World,” generating some impressive buzz months before “Barbie World” was tapped to feature on the Barbie film’s soundtrack. Unfortunately, her song was never released and fans awaiting the Bay Area rapper’s big comeback were left disappointed. While one of her collaborators on the song offered his own take on the situation, Saweetie never addressed why she shelved “Icy Girl”… until now.

When a fan on Twitter (never calling it “X”) posted a clip of Saweetie previewing the song during a livestream and asked, “What happened to this?” Saweetie’s response was short and simple. “Warner wouldn’t clear it,” she explained.

Although it appears Saweetie is still signed to the label, she hasn’t been shy about calling out Warner in the past. Earlier this month, she called on the label to approve the budget for the rollout of her single “Nani,” which she’s been teasing for weeks. And in 2020, she vented her frustrations with the label for flubbing the release of her song “Best Friend” with Doja Cat.

Meanwhile, although Saweetie said she didn’t mind Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice “borrowing” her idea for the Barbie soundtrack, her co-writer on the song, Jason Martin (fka Problem), censured the bigger star for what he saw as dirty business. “I can confirm this song and idea was sent to her last year to submit for the Barbie movie,” he posted on Twitter. “It’s sad to see that the original artist has been pushed off a song that was her idea and was meant for both of them.”
