XXL Recruits Asap Ferg, Ab-Soul, & Sauce Walka For Their New Cypher Lab Series

XXL‘s Freshman cypher’s have been legendary and iconic. However, over the last few years, fans have not been too pleased with the talent selection. But the publication seems to be finding ways to rebuild their reputation in regard to this dilemma. Around this time last year, they brought on Latto following her feature and they allowed her to bring on her favorite female talents. Flo Milli, Monaleo, Maiya The Don, and Mello Buckzz appeared, and it turned out to be a success. XXL is dubbing this their Cypher Lab series and not too long ago, they dropped the second installment of it.

This time around, it’s all guys from three of the hottest regions in hip-hop. A$AP Ferg is representing the East Coast, Ab-Soul puts on for the West, and Sauce Walka pops out to put people on to the South. You can watch their Cypher Lab with the first link below, and they all kill it. Fans are especially championing Ab-Soul’s verse as he preps for his next album, Soul Burger.

Who Had The Best XXL Cypher Lab Verse? Ferg, Soul, Or Sauce?

In addition to the performance, the three artists got together for a discussion surrounding the importance and lack of respect for lyricism. Each veteran MC laid out some terrific and astute points about the current climate. In Ferg’s eyes, the vibe is greater than the words being delivered in most cases. “”More people are driven by the feeling and the emotion of the beat and the vibes and the melodies rather than the lyrics. So, sometimes lyrics can feel like it can be a lost art.” For Ab-Soul, he’s got a more open view on it, as it depends on everyone’s individual perspective and interpretation. Finally, Sauce that lyrics are required for you to be considered elite in the game. Hopefully, this Cypher Lab continues because the insights and performances are all terrific.

What are your thoughts on this XXL Cypher Lab featuring A$AP Ferg, Ab-Soul, and Sauce Walka? Who had the strongest verse in your opinion? Do you agree with each rapper’s statement about lyricism in hip-hop? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Bun B & Boi-1da Dismiss Sauce Walka’s Belief That Drake Doesn’t Have Love For Houston Rappers

Yesterday in an interview with The Breakfast Club, veteran Houston, Texas rapper Sauce Walka voiced his strong opinion on Drake. According to him, The Boy doesn’t have as much of an appreciation for the former’s hometown rap scene as the latter would have you believe. This is something that Sauce has expressed since 2015 way back when Drizzy held his Houston Appreciation Weekend. However, pretty recently, these two have reconciled, so bringing these feelings back to the surface is a little interesting. Overall, it seems that the trend in hip-hop for 2024 is to pile on the Canadian megastar.

As for what Sauce had to say exactly, here are a couple of quotes from his sit-down with Charlamagne tha God and the crew. “Still to this day, why does Drake not have a bunch of records with Houston artists? You’ve been doing that with Atlanta. It’s 7, 8, 9, 15 artists that you got songs with in Atlanta”. “Travis Scott is still the only rapper that’s got a song with Drake. It makes sense ’cause it’s an equal trade. It’s not like, ‘I’m helping Houston and changing your life’”. “It’s about fair exchange and business. If you are using the lineage and the culture of somebody’s city, do something that helps not yourself; do something that actually makes the economy of that city and music bigger and greater”.

Another comment that Sauce Walka made was in regard to acknowledging the fact that Drake did work with Bun B. However, “No disrespect to Bun B, [but] he’s from Port Arthur; he’s not from Houston. This is Houston, Texas we talking about”. This got around to the UGK legend, and it led to him responding via a dedicated Instagram post, according to HipHopDX. “Born in Houston. Northwood Manor. Moved to West Side PA in 6th grade. None taken”. A more common collaborator of Drizzy’s, producer Boi-1da also decided to chime in via a reply to a comment left on a DJ Akademiks repost of this interview. “Travis, Bun B, Pimp C, OG Ron C, DJ Screw, Multiple Houston producers etc… the sense of entitlement is crazy though.” Boi-1da hit back with, “selective memory 😂”.

What are your thoughts on Bun B and Boi-1da’s responses to Sauce Walka’s claims about Drake and Houston? Do you think Walka was making some out of pocket statements, why or why not? Are him and Drizzy now back on bad terms in your eyes? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Fans Are Divided On Sauce Walka’s Claim That Drake Is A Culture Vulture Of Houston’s Music Scene

First, Kendrick Lamar called Drake out for supposedly leeching off of Atlanta’s thriving hip-hop scene. Now, Sauce Walka is calling out the “First Person Shooter” rapper for not tapping into Houston’s local talent enough.

Yesterday (August 13), during an appearance on The Breakfast Club, Sauce Walka accused Drake of being a culture vulture, more specifically of the Houston sound. After host Charlamagne Tha God mentioned Drake (a longtime foe of Walka) the pair then examined his love for the city, which was recently highlighted with the purchase of a new $15 million estate.

“Why did Drake not have no bunch of records with Houston artists,” said Walka. “You been doing that with Atlanta? How did Drake love Houston so much at that time and not have music with artists that you are uplifting from this community? F*ck me. I don’t care. It’s bigger than me.”

Then Walka made it clear he did count Drake’s work with Bun B, Travis Scott, or Beyoncé as true support of the city. “It’s about fair exchange in business [for Drake],” he said. “If you are using the lineage and the culture of somebody’s city or somebody’s hometown and backyard, do something that helps not yourself and your notoriety for your own benefit with the ladies and the people a see in the city. Do something that actually makes the economy of their city and music and musicians bigger and greater. That’s all I was saying. Not just for me, this for anybody.”

However, users across X (formerly Twitter) are divided by Walka’s claims.

“Sauce Walka is full of sh*t here,” wrote a user. “But let’s agree he is right…Drake collabs with Atlanta artists = Colonizer. Drake does not colonize other state’s artists = culture vulture.”

While others agreed with Walka’s emphasis on Drake overlooking rising act. “Sauce said he wants Drake to help artists that are up and coming,” penned another user. “And you n****s keep screaming Travis, Beyoncé, and Bun B like they weren’t already who they were before Drake.”

Sauce Walka Calls Out Drake For Not Supporting The Houston Rap Scene

Dating back to 2015, Houston rapper Sauce Walka has had some issues with Drake. It mostly stems from The Boy’s Houston Appreciation Weekend and the lack of support for Houston-bred artists. The “Texas Cyclone” MC put him on blast, saying, “A n**** using our culture for lyrical content, and ain’t giving s*** back but a family fun day and some money to some h*es he tricking on in the club. This b****-a** n**** make music with artists from everywhere but Houston”. This set him off so much that he would go on to release a diss called “Wack 2 Wack”, rapping over Drake’s “Back To Back” beat.

Things between these two would continue to be tense up until just a few months ago. Sauce and Drake were spotted at a Houston strip club called Area 29 chopping it up, seemingly putting their differences behind them. However, things seem to be unraveling as evidenced by some “new” comments by Walka on The Breakfast Club. DJ Akademiks reshared a clip from their recent conversation and it sees him rehashing the same issues from the past.

Sauce Walka Wants To See Drake Work With Lesser-Known Houston MCs

A post shared by DJ Akademiks (@akademiks)

Essentially, Sauce doesn’t understand how Drake claims to be a proponent of Houston’s rap culture but has hardly any collaborations with artists from there. Walka might want to check the receipts though, because he has songs with Travis Scott, Bun B, Pimp C, Beyonce, and etc. However, he argues that he only works with artists who are on equal playing grounds and ones that will elevate his status. Sauce essentially wants to see Drizzy help the lesser-known talents and to give them more exposure. If he does this, Walka thinks bigger music festivals, like Rolling Roud, will come to the city as well. He could just be talking about what happened with Drake in the past and things are still good, but it’ll be interesting to see if something happens between them again.

What are your thoughts on Sauce Walka calling out Drake’s lack of support for the Houston rap scene? Do you think his criticisms are justified, why or why not? Is some of the hate that the Canadian rapper is receiving is getting out of hand? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Drake and Sauce Walka. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on in the music world.

Sauce Walka Enlists Travis Scott, Lil Yachty, BossMan Dlow & More For “Saucefather 2”

Sauce Walka sometimes gets forgotten when it comes to the stars that are from the state of Texas. Thankfully, there are fans and publications out there that show the Houston native his due respect. For example, Complex recently dropped their top 20 best rap verses of the year so far and he made the cut. Slotting in right at the 20th spot was his performance on the cover of Drake’s “8am in Charlotte” called “1 AM in Houston (Freestyle)”. It is an underrated series of bars, as the underground vet speaks passionately about police brutality. While Sauce Walka is not getting that deep on Saucefather 2, he is definitely bringing heaters.

This is the follow-up to his 2017 tape Saucefather, which was an solo project through and through. However, the sequel is full of high-profile features. Sauce Walka is giving fans a mixture of established superstars and up-and-comers. Travis Scott and Lil Yachty lead the way and BossMan Dlow and YTB Fatt round out a solid cast of co-stars. Sauce shows some love to his Southern hip-hop roots across the tape, throwing in some chopped and screwed sections at the end of each track. Check out Saucefather 2 with the streaming links below.

Sauce Walka Goes Old School On Promotional Single “Im Him”

Sauce Walka is one of the more underrated talents from Texas. He has proven that he can deliver his music in different ways. The 33-year-old veteran is not a one-note kind of guy and he proves that on his newest single. Currently, it is only available on YouTube, so if you want to listen to it, check out the link below. Sauce is throwing things back to the 90s with “Im Him.” It is a three-minute track that flexes his ability to spit with ease. You could say he is rapping like the rent is due on this one. Walka had the song produced by Daringer, who works on the Griselda label.

It may be a bit of an unexpected collaboration, but it works to perfection. Daringer brings a smooth, boom-bap flavor to the table, and Walka feasts on it. Excitingly, this is a teaser to the Houston native’s upcoming project for 2024. When it drops, it will follow up his lone 2023 LP, DAT BOY DEN. It will be tied into the albums named after him.

Sauce Walka Updates Fans On His Recovery Following High-Speed Police Chase

Sauce Walka

Sauce Walka has been discharged from the hospital after a high-speed police chase that resulted in a car accident. The Houston rapper recently took to social media to update fans on his recovery.

Sauce Walka Hospitalized

On Wednesday, Dec. 6, Sauce Walka was arrested and subsequently hospitalized due to injuries sustained in a severe car accident following a high-speed chase with law enforcement.

The rapper allegedly attempted to evade the police for over two miles, reaching unimaginable speeds of 130 miles per hour before losing control of his vehicle. The car flipped over four times, leaving Walka’s Jeep Trackhawk completely totaled.

Houston Police Department swiftly took action, charging Sauce Walka with evading arrest with a vehicle.

On Dec. 8, during his court appearance, the initial bond of $15,000 was revoked, and the judge increased it to $35,000. Court documents indicate that Walka was taken back into custody by the sheriff.

‘Highly Favored’ & ‘Highly Flavored’

In a video shared shortly after his release, Sauce Walka emerged from the totaled car as he  proclaimed,

“I’m blessed, highly favored, and highly flavored. I don’t know how I do it everytime but I come out untouched. It’s the God I am. I just wanna say thank you to the Universe, thank you to the stars, thank you to everything in this Universe that brought me out to this situation safe, because I could’ve lost my life. I’ve been livin’ wild for along ass time, Imma try to calm down because I know I’m a role model and people look up to me and follow me but Imma continue to drip the sauce.”

Walka’s reasoning for engaging in the dangerous chase came to light as he claimed he felt targeted by the Houston Police Department. According to KPRC 2 Houston, he said:

“I thought I was getting profiled, I thought they were trying to get me.”

Despite his brush with danger, Sauce Walka wasted no time embracing his freedom. He was spotted attending rapper Rod Wave‘s concert in Houston on Thursday night, Dec. 7,  the day after his release.

Sauce Walka Hospitalized After High-Speed Police Chase

Sauce Walka recently found himself in a dangerous situation as he was involved in a high-speed police chase in Houston. The rapper reportedly reached speeds of 130 miles per hour in an attempt to flee from police, ending in a violent crash.

Sauce Walka In High-Speed Chase

Sauce Walka, whose real name is Albert Walker Mondane, was recently involved in a high-speed police chase in Houston, TX.

After reaching speeds of 130 miles per hour, Sauce Walka’s reckless attempt to evade police ended in a violent crash that left him hospitalized. The court documents detail his evasion from law enforcement for over two miles before the harrowing accident. The vehicle involved in the chase was a Trackhawk, which tumbled over four times, leaving Sauce Walka to be sent to the hospital and handcuffed to a hospital bed.

‘I Appreciate Y’all’

Despite his confinement, the rapper’s spirits remain high as he addressed his fans through a phone call on Instagram. In the call, he stated:

“I wanna tell all my fans, I appreciate y’all for y’alls   Right now I’m incarcerated, I should be getting out soon, Imma drop a video for y’all.. I know ya’ll miss me. It might drop tonight or tomorrow.”

The news of Sauce Walka’s incident quickly spread, prompting an outpouring of support and calls for his freedom from his fans.

Many took to social media writing, “Free Sauce Walka,” as one fan named Ocho_Loko wrote, “I can’t lie that Sauce Walka news hurts. That TSF Rico plus pure stupidity prolly bout to take away one of the most talented artists Houston ever seen.”

His first court appearance is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 8, where the charges of evading arrest or detention – motor vehicle, watercraft, or tire deflation device will be addressed.

Legal Woes

This is not the rapper’s first encounter with legal troubles, as he has previously faced affiliation-related issues.

In 2022, Sauce Walka’s crew, the Sauce Factory, faced a RICO charge involving drug trafficking, gun possession, and a “glock switch.” However, Sauce Walka himself was not directly implicated in the case. The FBI charged more than ten members of the Sauce Factory with the RICO offenses.

Tiffany Haddish Arrested

Another celebrity who recently found herself involved in legal troubles stemming from incidents with cars is comedian Tiffany Haddish. She was arrested on DUI charges in Beverly Hills, California, shortly after Thanksgiving, marking her second DUI dispute.

Houston rapper Sauce Walka was arrested last night (December 6) after leading police on a 130 mph chase which ended when he crashed his vehicle, according to FOX Houston. He’s since been charged with evading arrest according to Houston Chronicle, and was released on a $15,000 bond, per The New York Post. It remains unclear exactly what prompted the chase, but a video on the rapper’s Instagram Story insists that he’s okay.

“I want to tell all my fans that I appreciate y’all for your care and concern,” he says. “I’m good, I’m straight. I made it through a catastrophic accident and the Super Saiyan that I am, I’m still here, I’m good, I’m healthy and will continue to be wealthy. Right now, I’m incarcerated but I should be getting out soon. I’ma drop a video for y’all ’cause I know y’all miss me. And I’ve been working hard so I’ve got some more work I’ma drop for y’all.”

Walka has been a fixture of the Houston underground scene for a little under a decade, releasing a never-ending stream of independently-produced mixtapes, most recently the August release Dat Boy Den in partnership with Empire. Walka had previously pled guilty to deadly conduct after a shooting in 2009, while several members of his label The Sauce Factory were arrested on racketeering charges last December, after he’d previously told local news, “I know we’re not a gang.”

That case could draw attention as one of a slew of cases nationwide in which rap crews have been accused of gang activity, including the ongoing case against Young Thug in Atlanta.

Sauce Walka Challenges J. Cole To A Rap Off: “ILL GO BAR 4 BAR WIT ANY GOAT”

J. Cole’s run in 2023 has been nothing short of incredible this year. While he has not dropped an album this year, the North Carolina talent has been spazzing on every feature verse. There are so many standout performances to name, but we can name a few that you have to check out if you have not heard them already. Of course, we have to mention his recent efforts with Drake. The two linked up for the first time in over a decade on “First Person Shooter.”

Many feel Cole really carried the song and we can see their point. From the flow switch-ups to the witty bars, it was a moment in 2023. In fact, it was so good, it went number one on the Billboard Hot 100. He also appears on the deluxe version of For All The Dogs, where he and Drizzy go back and forth on “Evil Ways.” J. Cole has also worked with Lil Yachty on the jazz and boom bap-inspired cut “The Secret Recipe.” The Atlanta rapper did his best to match his counterpart and succeeded.
