SZA Praises Lizzo In Spite Of Workplace Harassment Accusations

SZA and Lizzo have long been both friends and collaborators. The two are notoriously big fans of each other. They worked together on a remix of Lizzo’s track “Special” earlier this year. That’s why the R&B darling was probably as shocked as anyone else when a lawsuit was filed against Lizzo earlier this year with damning allegations of workplace misconduct and harassment against the singer. The “About Damn Time” singer and her team were accused of bullying dancers for their weight and race and in one now notorious incident forcing the entire team through a grueling re-audition.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, SZA talked about all kinds of different things. One thing she didn’t want to address directly were the legal issues that Lizzo was facing, but she did comment on the singer herself. “I’m just saying, based on the values and the energy that I see in my friend, I just really think that she’s a beautiful person,” she began. It’s not a surprise to hear as many fellow performers like Beyonce and Grimes have also spoken positively about the singer’s attitude since the allegations emerged. “I just really pray that everybody recovers from this because everybody deserves to heal and feel safe and feel loved,” SZA continues. Check out the entire interview below.

Flo Milli Refuses To Feel Insecure About Her Skin Tone

Flo Milli has had a pretty prolific 2023. She’s released a number of singles under her own name and appeared on even more as a feature. She recently joined Rolling Stone for a new interview where she discussed the new music she’s released recently, what she has coming next on her new album, and a number of other topics.

One of those topics was the attempts that those online make to prey on her insecurities. She identified colorism as one of the main critiques she faces online, but it doesn’t phase her. “They want me to be insecure about my skin tone, which is never going to happen,” she said. “I want people to understand everybody does not hate themselves. I think I’m a bad b*tch, and there’s nothing you could say that’s going to make me think otherwise. So please stop.” She also clarified that she’s over being compared to other artists. “I was also telling them to stop using my name to degrade other people. I want y’all to support me, but don’t try to bring another woman down in the process because that don’t make me feel good.” Check out the full interview below.

‘Rolling Stone’ Co-Founder Jann Wenner Shared An Apology For His Comments About Black And Female Artists

In a recent New York Times interview promoting his book The Masters, Rolling Stone co-founder Jann Wenner said some problematic things about Black and female artists. One pull-quote, for example, reads, “Insofar as the women, just none of them were as articulate enough on this intellectual level,” having said that in relation to the white, male artists he included in his book.

Now, Wenner, who hasn’t been directly involved with Rolling Stone for a few years now, offered an apology, saying in a statement (as The Hollywood Reporter notes):

“In my interview with The New York Times, I made comments that diminished the contributions, genius, and impact of Black and women artists and I apologize wholeheartedly for those remarks. The Masters is a collection of interviews I’ve done over the years that seemed to me to best represent an idea of rock ‘n’ roll’s impact on my world; they were not meant to represent the whole of music and it’s diverse and important originators but to reflect the high points of my career and interviews I felt illustrated the breadth and experience in that career. They don’t reflect my appreciation and admiration for myriad totemic, world-changing artists whose music and ideas I revere and will celebrate and promote as long as I live. I totally understand the inflammatory nature of badly chosen words and deeply apologize and accept the consequences.”

Rolling Stone recently distanced itself from Wenner’s comments, saying in a statement, “Jann Wenner’s recent statements to The New York Times do not represent the values and practices of today’s Rolling Stone. Jann Wenner has not been directly involved in our operations since 2019. Our purpose, especially since his departure, has been to tell stories that reflect the diversity of voices and experiences that shape our world. At Rolling Stone‘s core is the understanding that music above all can bring us together, not divide us.”

Rolling Stone Founder Jann Wenner Booted Off Rock Hall Of Fame Board Over Racist & Sexist Comments

The Board of Directors for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has removed Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner from the foundation due to his recent interview with The New York Times. Wenner told the outlet that he only featured white men in his new book, The Masters, because female artists weren’t “articulate enough” to merit inclusion. The book catalogs conversations he’s had with seven artists whom he describes as “the philosophers of rock.” They include Bob Dylan, Jerry Garcia, Mick Jagger, John Lennon, Bruce Springsteen, Pete Townshend, and Bono.

After backlash to The Times piece, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame put out the following press release: “Jann Wenner has been removed from the Board of Directors of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.” They provided no further details on the decision.

As for exactly what Wenner said, he told The Times’ David Marchese: “When I was referring to the zeitgeist, I was referring to Black performers, not to the female performers, OK? Just to get that accurate. The people had to meet a couple criteria, but it was just kind of my personal interest and love of them. Insofar as the women, just none of them were as articulate enough on this intellectual level.” Speaking further on Black artists specifically, Wenner said: “You know, Stevie Wonder, genius, right? I suppose when you use a word as broad as ‘masters,’ the fault is using that word. Maybe Marvin Gaye, or Curtis Mayfield? I mean, they just didn’t articulate at that level.”

After his removal from the Hall of Fame was announced, Wenner released a statement apologizing for his comments. “In my interview with The New York Times, I made comments that diminished the contributions, genius, and impact of Black and women artists and I apologize wholeheartedly for those remarks,” he said in part.

Michael Jackson’s Son Says Harry Styles Doesn’t Deserve “King Of Pop” Title

Michael Jackson’s son, Prince, says that Harry Styles hasn’t worked hard enough to deserve the title, “King of Pop.” Appearing on Mike Tyson’s Hotboxin‘ podcast, Prince explained his issue with the credit being given to Styles.

“When he was getting ready during the rehearsals for This Is It, he would come home real late at night,” Prince explained of his father. “He would come home [and] he’d be physically [looking] exhausted. He’d have a shake or eat a meal and go to working on music, go to his room, start writing or harmonizing, and melodizing to try and figure out another song.” From there, he noted a generational gap: “There are people that came before my technology generation, and they had to work their whole life, their a**es off to get where they got to.” Prince added that Jackson also considered himself to be the “greatest of all time” while he was still alive. He specifically noted his famous rivalry with fellow legendary musician, Prince.

Elsewhere in the interview, Prince confirmed that there is still unreleased music from Jackson in the vault; however, it’s mostly unfinished. “When it comes to unreleased music there, what we have in our vault — as I’ve been kind of told — is a lot of really rough works in progress,” he said. He explained that it’s primarily “little snippets” of songs due to Jackson’s unusual recording habits. “I don’t think my father ever learned how to read sheet music,” he added. “So as a trained musician, it was really self-taught.”

Jimmy Fallon Apologizes To Staff After Rolling Stone Article

Jimmy Fallon has reportedly apologized to staff members on The Tonight Show following the publication of a Rolling Stone article alleging the fostering of a toxic workplace at the long-running late-night show. “It’s embarrassing and I feel so bad. Sorry if I embarrassed you and your family and friends… I feel so bad I can’t even tell you. [I didn’t intend to] create that type of atmosphere for the show. I want the show to be fun, [it] should be inclusive to everybody. It should be the best show,” Fallon reportedly told staff members over Zoom.

The apology comes after Rolling Stone published the testimony of 14 current and former staff members. “It was like, if Jimmy is in a bad mood, everyone’s day is fucked. It was very much like, focus on whatever it is that you have to do because Jimmy’s in a bad mood, and if he sees that, he might fly off,” one former staffer claimed. Others alleged that Fallon would often perform erratically, leading many to suspect that he had a drinking problem and was taping shows drunk. NBC and Fallon did not respond to requests for follow-ups from multiple outlets.

“Nobody told Jimmy, ‘No.’ Everybody walked on eggshells, especially showrunners,” a former employee told the magazine. “You never knew which Jimmy we were going to get and when he was going to throw a hissy fit. Look how many showrunners went so quickly. We know they didn’t last long.” Another former staffer recalled a moment from 2017. “He couldn’t remember he had just crossed it [a joke] out himself,” the employee says. “I was like, ‘Oh, my God, he [seems] drunk. He doesn’t know what he’s doing. This could be awful — this could be the end of the show right here.’”

“Seven former employees say their mental health was impacted by their alleged experiences working at The Tonight Show. These staffers say it was commonplace to hear people joking about “wanting to kill themselves,” and that they would refer to guests’ dressing rooms in the office as “crying rooms” because that’s where they would go to let out their emotions when they were upset with their alleged mistreatment,” the article also notes. “Mentally, I was in the lowest place of my life. I didn’t want to live anymore, I thought about taking my own life all the time,” one former employee says. “I knew deep down I would never actually do it, but in my head, I’m like, ‘Why do I think about this all the time?’”

They gotta go and work a real regular 9-to-5 job, like, you know, I have one of the best jobs in the f**king world, man. And so, I was taking a lot of s**t for granted, man. So I will say, man, like, I’m back. Your boy is back.”

Chika Says She Almost Died From T.I. and Tiny’s Granddaughter Drama

In a recent interview, Chika took the opportunity to expand on the details of a recent drama. The incident involved T.I. and Tiny’s granddaughter on a Delta flight together. “I feel like people used that moment as a reason to dog pile. It was completely blown out of proportion. I have a lot of thoughts on that actually,” the rapper said. “I think that any other person on this fucking planet being frustrated and venting like that would never be taken as “harshly” as everyone else took it.” According to HipHopDx, the incident started when she tweeted out about babies that were sat near her on an airplane. She claimed that the children were misbehaving and went off the handle with an entire series of tweets.

In her new interview, Chika claims that fans were purposefully misinterpreting her sentiments in order to be upset. “There’s a lot of moving parts there that people wanted to ignore in order to have a different conversation, so I allowed them to. If I were to have read into it any further, it would’ve killed me, and it almost did. So ultimately, just let that conversation happen and let people think what they want to think because who I am is going to shine through all of that shit anyway.” People weren’t shy in their criticism of the rapper following her original tweets. In particular when she said “I hope you get a paper cut between each finger tomorrow, you senseless wench,” about the mother of the children.

New Allegations Against Jonathan Majors Emerge

An investigation by Rolling Stone has uncovered new allegations of misconduct against embattled actor Jonathan Majors. Majors, best known for the likes of Lovecraft Country and Creed III, is currently facing charges over the alleged assault of his then-girlfriend in March. Despite claims from his attorneys that it is a racially-motivated witch hunt, Majors’ trial will begin in early August. Most recently, Majors reportedly filed a domestic violence complaint against his then-girlfriend.

However, that might not be the only issue for Majors. As part of a wide-ranging investigation launched after the March allegations surfaced, Rolling Stone has reportedly uncovered a long history of misconduct on the part of the actor. Overall, Majors was described as “a complicated, unpredictable, and sometimes violent man, who can switch from charming to cold in a flash.” This description came from many of the 40+ sources Rolling Stone spoke with. Furthermore, a number of sources made claims dating back to Majors’ time at Yale.

Majors Accused Of Physical And Emotional Abuse

However, the most severe allegations relate to Majors’ past romantic relationships. Nine sources claim that Majors was physically violent with one romantic partner. He reportedly strangled her as well as engaged in emotional abuse. Other sources claim that a second woman told them that dating Majors was “emotional torture.” Neither woman chose to speak with Rolling Stone directly. “My experience in dealing with him and watching him in relationships with several women [is] really upsetting,” says one person familiar with at least two of Majors’ relationships.

Elsewhere, Majors has been accused of getting physically violent on set. While filming Magazine Dreams, set for release later this year, two members of the production claimed Majors pushed someone and “physically intimidated” another. Majors attorneys have vehemently denied all of Rolling Stone‘s reporting. “These allegations are based entirely on hearsay because neither of the romantic partners referenced were willing to engage with Rolling Stone for the article—demonstrating their outright falsity,” Dustin A. Pusch wrote in a statement. On-set allegations were further dismissed as part of Majors commitment to “method acting.”
