Rich The Kid Was Once Signed To Top Dawg Entertainment

Rich The Kid’s autobiography will have stories for days. The “Plug Talk” rapper had a storied career, even before he had a major label deal or a break-out single. He went through the motions of the average up-and-coming artist and the hard work ultimately paid off. When he released The World Is Yours, he became champion by the rap community, including a few elite MCs.

Though Rich The Kid is far from being a top-tier lyricist, that was never his point. His infectious energy and quotable bars ultimately landed him a verse from Kendrick Lamar on his breakout hit, “No Freezer.” It was an unsuspected collaboration but one that took the world by storm. It became one of the biggest records of 2017 and felt inescapable upon its release. The song later reached platinum status and the two performed the record at the BRIT Awards in 2018 where they smashed a Lamborghini.

Rich The Kid Signed To TDE

Though we were previously aware that A$AP Ferg initially had a verse on “New Freezer,” Rich The Kid provided a far more in-depth response to how he landed a K. Dot verse. In an interview with Bootleg Kev, Rich The Kid said he penned a deal with Top Dawg Entertainment. “I did sign to Interscope through TDE,” he said, confirming the long-standing rumor that emerged prior to the release of “New Freezer.” At the time, he was recording his album while Kendrick worked on DAMN. and SZA recorded CTRL.

He explained that he wasn’t even aware that Kendrick or SZA were working in the same studio complex. However, he recalled the day Kendrick came in the room to hear what he was working on. “I played him ‘New Freezer’ and he was like, ‘Yeah, I need that.’ I was waiting for the verse for like a month ’cause he was on the road doing shows and shit,” he said. The collab earned him a spot within TDE’s tightknit circle but, due to his contractual agreements with 300 Ent. and Quality Control, he had to buy his way out of both deals. Rich The Kid Honored Late Migos Member Takeoff With A Permanent Tribute: A New Tattoo In His Memory

February 1 will mark three months since Takeoff was fatally shot outside of 810 Billiards & Bowling in Houston, where he attended a private event with Quavo. But regardless of how much time passes, Rich The Kid has ensured he will never forget Takeoff.

Tattoo MF Red has posted video of him inking Rich The Kid with a simple yet powerful tattoo: “Takeoff” is written on the outside of Rich The Kid’s hand.

According to TMZ, the tattoo appointment happened in Tampa, Florida and only took 30 minutes. Rich The Kid squeezed it in between a recording session and a scheduled radio interview.

Takeoff was best known as one-third of Migos — alongside Quavo and Offset — but the 28-year-old beloved Atlanta rapper and Quavo had released their joint album Only Built For Infinity Links less than a month before Takeoff’s tragic passing.

When news broke on November 1, Rich The Kid took to Instagram to express his grief:

“Today I lost more than a brother,” he wrote. “My twin my best friend everything. I don’t wanna believe it I can’t. The most humble person I know we used to share shoes & clothes before we made it with no problem! I miss you already you didn’t deserve that!! I can’t stop crying I love you so much bro forever.”

Takeoff and Rich The Kid dropped their joint “Crypto” single in March 2022. It was far from the first time they collaborated. As noted by Billboard, Rich The Kid met Migos in 2012 and featured on their 2013 track “Jumpin’ Like Jordan.” Takeoff hopped on Rich The Kid songs like “Trap-A-Holics” in 2013 or “Rockets” in 2019. Quavo and Takeoff also featured on Rich The Kid’s “Too Blessed” in 2020.

Aside from that collaboration, The Kid also connected with Famous Dex and Jay Critch for a joint single. “Where’s Dexter” landed at midnight on Friday (January 20), and finds the three artists exchanging clever wordplay throughout their verses.

The song opens with, “She wanna hang with Rich Forever / She’s texting her friends like ‘Where’s Dexter?’ / I’m f*cking this bitch, but her n*gga jealous / She look at my wrist, that’s a Richard Millie.”

Elsewhere, stars like Rihanna and A$AP Rocky earn a name-drop while the rappers proceed to flex their designer outfits and the women they attract.

To celebrate the arrival of his new single, The Kid shared a photo dump of him and Rick Ross on Instagram. “She wanna hang wit Rich Forever,” he wrote in the caption.

Can’t hang with no goofies, ’cause n*ggas be so soft

Rich The Kid Remembers Who Held It Down For Him On His New Single, ‘No More Friends’

Rich The Kid is back and it appears he has everything he needs. On his latest single, “No More Friends,” Rich indulges in his luxuries. He plans to share his wealth with the people who have held it down for him since day one, reiterating that he doesn’t need anyone else in his circle.

“Told mama she raised a flexer / Told my b*tch she rich forever / Back then, I was broke, I was hustlin’ / Now me and the money, we cuddlin’,” he raps, later saying, “All my racks up / Want no more friends.”

In the song’s accompanying video, Rich is seen hanging out with his family and loved ones, who have held it down for him since day one. He is also seen walking through a lavish home and hopping in and out of high-end cars.

In a recent interview with SSENSE, Rich shared how he wants his music to live on.

“You’ve got to live your own life and do your own thing,” he said. “You can be whoever you want to be, just know your influence and know that what you say in your music affects your fans, these teens that are out there supporting you.”

Takeoff And Rick The Kid Flex Their ‘Crypto’ On Their Ambitious Collab

Back in 2018, less than a year after they released their third album Culture II, Migos decided that they were going to break off for a brief moment and release solo albums. Quavo dropped Quavo Huncho, Offset delivered Father Of 4, and Takeoff released The Last Rocket. In the grand scheme of things, the projects weren’t as beloved as the Migos projects as they helped to highlight while the group works so well together. Now, almost four years later, there’s no sign that the trio is preparing to release solo projects again, but some, including Takeoff, have released songs as individual artists.

For the first time since he dropped The Last Rocket, Takeoff is back in action as a lone act. With his latest release, he calls on Rich The Kid to join him for “Crypto.” The track is of course focused on cryptocurrency as the rappers flex their wallets and how much they’ve attained. It also arrives with a laid-back video that follows Takeoff and Rich as they walk through city streets and kick it on a plane as they brag about their finances.

The new track comes after Takeoff lent his voice to Roddy Ricch’s sophomore album Live Life Fast where he appeared on “Paid My Dues.” As for Rich The Kid, he recently teamed up with Lil Wayne for their joint project, Trust Fund Babies.
