Dua Lipa Ties Ariana Grande’s Major Spotify Record Among Female Artists

Dua Lipa has been living up to her hit song “Levitating” over the last year and this latest achievement takes her to a different stratosphere. The 26-year-old has officially tied Ariana Grande for the most songs with over one billion streams among female artists. Dua and the Sweetener artist now share the throne with seven songs a piece.

Some of Dua Lipa’s records that aided in her achieving this feat include “One Kiss” with Calvin Harris, the PNAU remix to “Cold Heart” with Elton John, “Don’t Start Now,” “IDGAF,” and the aforementioned “Levitating” with received a remix by DaBaby soon after its release. In terms of RIAA certifications, her 2020 album Future Nostalgia and eponymous 2017 album are both certified Platinum. “Levitating” is four times Platinum, “One Kiss” is three times platinum, and “IDGAF” is two times Platinum.

Dua Lipa has been busy in 2022, appearing on Calvin Harris’ “Potion” with Young Thug and “Sweetest Pie” with Megan Thee Stallion. She reportedly told Elton John that her third album is “50% of the way there” and “is starting to feel good,” so she could very well knock Ariana Grande off of their shared pedestal until Grande releases her next album.

Beyoncé Joins TikTok And Starts By Showing Love To Her Favorite ‘Break My Soul’ Videos

Beyoncé has long been one of the biggest artists in the world and now, she’s starting to take over TikTok, too, as she just joined the platform today (and already has over 3.3 million followers as of this post).

A couple hours ago, she shared her first TikTok video, a compilation of clips from TikTok users (including Cardi B, who makes a brief appearance) either dancing or singing along to “Break My Soul.” She wrote in the caption, “Seeing y’all release the wiggle made me so happy! Thank you so much for all the love for BREAK MY SOUL! – Love B.”

Furthermore, Variety notes that Beyoncé’s full catalog of music is now available for TikTok users to use as backing sounds in their videos.

Now, we wait and see how quickly Beyoncé’s TikTok follower count will catch up to those figures on other platforms; She has approximately 15.5 million Twitter followers, 25 million YouTube subscribers, 56 million Facebook followers, and 268 million Instagram followers.

As for Renaissance, Beyoncé’s upcoming album, she said of it last year, “I’ve been in the studio for a year and a half. Sometimes it takes a year for me to personally search through thousands of sounds to find just the right kick or snare. One chorus can have up to 200 stacked harmonies. Still, there’s nothing like the amount of love, passion, and healing that I feel in the recording studio. After 31 years, it feels just as exciting as it did when I was nine years old. Yes, the music is coming!”

Coldplay Loves HER’s Backstage A Capella Cover Of ‘Fix You’

Last night (July 13), as part of their Music Of The Spheres tour, Coldplay put on a show at Olympiastadion in Berlin, Germany. The band is on the stretch of the tour that features HER as their opening act and they seem pretty enamored by one of her performances… but not an on-stage one.

Today, Coldplay shared a video, taken backstage at that Berlin show, of HER and her band firing off a quick a capella rendition of Coldplay’s enduring 2005 single “Fix You.” It starts with some vocalists singing the song’s instrumental before HER comes in with the first verse. On the chorus, everybody joins in and harmonizes with HER for a gorgeous conclusion to their truncated cover.

Sharing the video, Coldplay wrote, “Fix You by @HERMusicx, backstage in Berlin. We’re so lucky to hear these voices every night on tour.”

This comes shortly after Hannah Reid (of London Grammar, Coldplay’s other tour opener) joined the band on stage, also in Berlin, on July 10, singing duet with Chris Martin on “Let Somebody Go,” Coldplay’s single from earlier this year that features Selena Gomez.

Lizzo Reflects On The Criticism That Has Come With Fame: ‘It’s Been Very Difficult’

Over the past few years, Lizzo has become an exceptionally famous person. There’s plenty of good that comes with that, like her work being recognized for its excellence and beloved by millions of fans worldwide. Of course, though, being in the spotlight opens you up to more criticism than you’ve ever faced in your life, which Lizzo admits has been “difficult.”

Speaking with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Lizzo says of her experience with fame and criticism:

“I’ve noticed that once people knew who I was… because before, it was discovery. It was like, ‘Who is this? Who is that?’ And then once people knew who I was and it became kind of solidified, they became more comfortable with using me as some sort of punchline or joke, or immediately they want to criticize whatever I’m doing because there’s levels to me that they don’t accept. So I’ve found that I’m always going to receive some sort of backlash or criticism whenever I put myself in a public space, just because of who I am and the way I choose to exist. […] It’s absolutely bait now. People use negativity as clout and attention, and it makes them feel good to get that kind of attention, which is… it’s very addictive. It is like an adrenaline, it’s drug-like. And I don’t know, I’m trying to distance myself from even looking at those people and reading those comments. It’s been very difficult because I just feel I can’t escape it.”

Lizzo Reveals ‘Coldplay’ From Her Upcoming Album Samples Coldplay’s ‘Yellow,’ Which Is Her Hookup Song

At the end of the week, Lizzo will release her fourth album Special, which comes three years after her Platinum-selling, Grammy-winning third album Cuz I Love You. Ahead of the release of Special, Lizzo unveiled the tracklist for the project, and what caught many people’s attention is the album’s closing track, “Coldplay.” The song’s title left many to wonder what the song is about, during a new interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Lizzo gave some insight into the record.

“This is one of the most literal songs I’ve ever written,” Lizzo said about the song according to Rolling Stone. “Everything I say in the song actually happened.” The song is produced by Ricky Reed, who put together a piano loop and pushed Lizzo to just talk over the instrumental, and what resulted was a sprawling and lengthy tale about a lovestruck vacation she was on. Afterward, Lizzo said she felt “raw and sensitive” about the song and simply wanted to move on, but Ricky had other plans, as he crafted her monologue into a song. Elsewhere in the interview, Lizzo confirmed that the song also has some direct references to Coldplay, and this led to a FaceTime call with Chris Martin during the sit-down.

“I was with somebody, and I was just looking at the stars,” Lizzo said to Martin after she thanked him for letting use the band’s name for the song, which also samples Coldplay’s “Yellow.” “And I was with him, and I was singing it. And tears just were coming to my eyes. You have such an incredible ability to move people with the poetry of your lyricism. So thank you so, so much.”

“Hey, I don’t know how to accept those kinds of compliments,” Martin replied. “Thank you. If someone had told me 22 years ago, ‘One day, Lizzo’s going to make out to this song,’ I’d be like, ‘Okay, great.’ It’s become Lizzo’s hookup song, and that’s good.” Lizzo gleefully added, “Oh, that’s baby-making music, baby!”

Lizzo And Selena Gomez Are Among The 2022 Emmy Nominees From The Music World

Lizzo is just a few days away from releasing his third album Special, and now, she has a lot more to celebrate that the project’s upcoming release. Lizzo’s Amazon Prime Video show Watch Out For The Big Grrrls just received an Emmy nomination for Best Competition Series. However, she’s not the only one from the music world that received a nomination for the upcoming 2022 Emmys. Selena Gomez also received a nomination as a producer of the Hulu series Only Murders In The Buildings. That show was selected in the Outstanding Comedy Series category.

Watch Out For The Big Grrrls was launched by Lizzo as a way to give plus-sized women an opportunity to achieve their dreams as Lizzo has been able to over the last few years. “Girls that look like me don’t get representation,” she said about her intentions with the show. “It’s time to pull up my sleeves and find them myself.”

Selena’s nomination in the Outstanding Comedy Series category comes as Only Murders In The Buildings was recently renewed for a third season. Her nomination also makes Selena the second Latina since Salma Hayek in 2007 to be nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series as a producer.

Other notable nominations from the music world include Labrinth and Zendaya who were nominated in the Outstanding Original Music And Lyrics category thanks to “I’m Tired” and “Elliot’s Song” from Euphoria. Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” also helped Stranger Things receive a nomination as the “Dear Billy” episode it appears in was selected in the Outstanding Music Supervision category.

Doja Cat Imitates Amber Heard’s Infamous ‘Dog Stepped On A Bee’ Court Testimony On TikTok

Last month, amid Roe v. Wade getting overturned by the Supreme Court, Billie Eilish asked in regards to the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial, “Who f*cking gives a f*ck?” She later added, “Who gives a sh*t?” The answer to both of those questions is a significant portion of the online community, as many moments from the trial were vaulted to viral TikTok fame.

One such moment was when Heard emotionally told a story about her dog stepping on a bee, at one point offering a seemingly pained expression that many thought felt forced or out of place. Now, Doja Cat, ever the TikTok star, has gone and re-created the moment in a now-deleted video, offering her own kooky expression while repeatedly saying her dog stepped on a bee.

During a live broadcast later, Doja explained that her dog did actually step on a bee, which is what prompted her video.

It’s not clear why the original video is no longer on Doja’s TikTok account, but she did face some backlash for it on Twitter. Some noted that Heard’s testimony was about allegedly being sexually assaulted by Depp and that Doja was making light of that. Others, though, didn’t think Doja’s video was a big deal and that it was being blown out of proportion. Either way, this isn’t Doja’s first time in recent days facing backlash after the whole Stranger Things saga.

Harry Styles’ ‘As It Was’ Stays Atop The Hot 100 Chart For A Ninth Week But Lizzo Is Nipping At His Heels

Harry Styles’ “As It Was” has had an unprecedented time at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart: It’s one of the only tracks to ever reach the No. 1 spot on four non-consecutive occasions. And after topping this week’s Hot 100 (dated July 16), it will remain there for at least another week, its ninth total. However, could the reign of “As It Was” soon be coming to an end?

Lizzo’s “About Damn Time” just soared up a spot to No. 2, now the track’s highest placement so far, as she gets ready to drop her album, Special, this Friday. Jack Harlow’s “First Class” was bumped back down by Lizzo to the No. 3 spot. Meanwhile, Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” has returned to its peak position at No. 4, proving that the Stranger Things effect last far longer than just 15 minutes. Bush moving up two spots dropped “Wait For U” by Future featuring Drake and Tems down a space to the No. 5 spot, and Drake and 21 Savage’s “Jimmy Cooks” down to No. 6.

Rounding out the top 10 are Bad Bunny & Choncho Corleone’s “Me Porto Bonito” at No. 7, Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” holding strong on the chart at No. 8, and Beyoncé’s feverish “Break My Soul” at No. 9. The only new entrant to this week’s top 10 is Latto’s “Big Energy,” who returns to the podium by knocking out Joji’s “Glimpse Of Us” out of the top 10.

Lizzo’s rise to No. 2 is a fortuitously timed one, given her upcoming album release. And perhaps Styles, who just teased the July 13th release of his “Late Night Talking” video, is ready to let another song from Harry’s House have its moment in the sun?
