Still, that doesn’t mean that his beloved work fell off people’s rotation at all; if anything, you could say it’s stronger than ever. Moreover, arguably the rapper’s biggest hit, “No Role Modelz,” just accomplished something stunning and garnered over two billion streams on Spotify recently. Few rap hits can claim this title, and fewer still are such balanced offerings of style, substance, and singularity. The Dreamville boss should feel very proud of this, even if he’s always found inspiration in artistic growth rather than commercial metrics.

Furthermore, if you want proof of J. Cole’s skills, look no further than another titan of the game: Nicki Minaj. Her praise for his contribution to Pink Friday 2 was quite wholesome and indicative of his status. “This man J. Cole had a 2 hour talk with me,” she wrote. “2. Two!!!! Didn’t realize I was sitting on a therapist couch but ummm 2 days later I heard this verse & couldn’t stop crying. The end. Ice Cube’s “It Was A Good Day” Becomes His First Song To Hit 1 Billion Spotify Streams

Ice Cube has officially joined the pantheon of rappers with a track that’s been streamed more than 1 billion times on Spotify. The previously ultra-rare achievement is becoming more and more common the longer the service is around. Some major artists like Drake and Ed Sheeran have racked up numerous such tracks. Now other artists are joining the fray with hits both new and old hitting 1 billion every day.

The most recent addition to the bunch is Ice Cube. The veteran rapper just netted his first-ever song to reach the 1 billion mark and it’s probably the track you’d expect. His biggest Hot 100 hit ever and one of the biggest songs of his career “It Was A Good Day” also became his first to surpass 1 billion streams. The achievement is especially impressive given how old the song is. The vast majority of billion-stream songs were released in recent years while Spotify was already an active platform. But a number of major hits from the 80s and 90s have reached the milestone in recent years.

Ice Cube Joins The 1 Billion Spotify Streams Club

Last month, Ice Cube had an NBA award named after him. The basketball league officially announced an Impact Award named after the rapper. The award is meant to honor the rapper’s  “extraordinary contributions to the world of basketball, his unparalleled passion for the game, and his unwavering commitment to encouraging crucial dialogues surrounding inclusivity, equal opportunity, and racial and social justice while contributing to initiatives focused on education and community development.”

Some, including Ice Cube himself, see the gesture as an attempt to appease him. Cube is affiliated with the BIG3 basketball league. He’s suggested on numerous occasions that the NBA is trying to kill the league in an effort to squeeze out competition. Snoop Dogg Reveals Spotify Earnings, Recalls Nearly Filing For Bankruptcy

Back in May, Snoop Dogg stopped by The Milken Institute’s 2023 Global Conference in Beverly Hills, where the hitmaker shared his thoughts on artificial intelligence. At one point in the conversation, Snoop went off topic momentarily to express his frustrations with streaming, noting how artists’ success is typically not reflected by their earnings.

“Can someone explain to me how you can get a billion streams and not get a million dollars? That sh*t don’t make sense to me,” he explained. “I don’t know who the f*ck is running the streaming industry if you in here or not? But you need to give us some information on how to f*cking track this money down… Because one plus one ain’t adding up to two.”

Snoop Dogg Didn’t Even Make $45K From A Billion Streams

The Long Beach native continued, revealing how much he earned from hitting a billion streams on Spotify. “They just sent me some sh*t from Spotify where I got a billion streams,” he shared. “My publisher hit me. I said, ‘Break that down. How much money is that?’ That sh*t wasn’t even $45K.” Unfortunately, this isn’t the only time that Snoop’s talents haven’t paid off financially. During a recent appearance on the Business Untitled podcast, he advocated for schools teaching students financial literacy, reflecting on some of the most difficult points of his career.

“There were times in my career where it got so bad my accountant was like, ‘We should just do bankruptcy,’” he recalled. “My pride got involved. F*ck that. If I say bankruptcy then I look like I f*cked off everything.” He went on, calling for better education when it comes to managing finances. “You got these athletes, you teaching them how to run routes, how to dunk, do interviews and convert into analysts after they finish their career; how about teaching them to be businessmen at the end of their career?”

Dua Lipa Ties Ariana Grande’s Major Spotify Record Among Female Artists

Dua Lipa has been living up to her hit song “Levitating” over the last year and this latest achievement takes her to a different stratosphere. The 26-year-old has officially tied Ariana Grande for the most songs with over one billion streams among female artists. Dua and the Sweetener artist now share the throne with seven songs a piece.

Some of Dua Lipa’s records that aided in her achieving this feat include “One Kiss” with Calvin Harris, the PNAU remix to “Cold Heart” with Elton John, “Don’t Start Now,” “IDGAF,” and the aforementioned “Levitating” with received a remix by DaBaby soon after its release. In terms of RIAA certifications, her 2020 album Future Nostalgia and eponymous 2017 album are both certified Platinum. “Levitating” is four times Platinum, “One Kiss” is three times platinum, and “IDGAF” is two times Platinum.

Dua Lipa has been busy in 2022, appearing on Calvin Harris’ “Potion” with Young Thug and “Sweetest Pie” with Megan Thee Stallion. She reportedly told Elton John that her third album is “50% of the way there” and “is starting to feel good,” so she could very well knock Ariana Grande off of their shared pedestal until Grande releases her next album.
