Jorja Smith Shares A New Harry Styles Cover

Last week, Jorja Smith released her highly-anticipated sophomore album Falling or Flying. The 16-track project had features from J Hus and Lila Ike across its nearly 45-minute runtime. The project already has a few hits under its belt like “Little Things,” “Try Me,” and “GO GO GO.” The album is her second project and her first in five years following 2018’s Lost & Found. Clearly, despite her time her fans still have an unwavering dedication to her music.

They came to her defense at large recently when she shared a music video for a remix she made with Nia Archives. Despite fans praising the song, she faced plenty of body-shaming comments online. Thankfully though her fans had her back shutting down negative comments and praising the song. Now, she’s released yet another video playing some of her songs live from the BBC 1 Live Lounge. There’s one performance in particular that fans are honing in on, a cover of Harry Styles’ smash hit “As It Was.” The song, which was at the top spot on the charts for months in the summer of 2022, sounded great translated through Jorja’s incredible vocals. Check out the full video of the performance below.

Jorja Smith Covers “As It Was” In The Live Lounge

The BBC Live Lounge has been on a hot streak with great covers recently. Just this week they’ve already shared videos of some major pop crossovers. They had Troye Sivan in to give his version of Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For.” They also got Olivia Rodrigo to cover another burgeoning superstars song with her take on Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season.”

Even Harry Styles himself has taken to the stage in the past. Back in 2017 he delivered an extremely memorable cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.” Jorja Smith’s new album is already racking up million of streams and will make its debut on the Billboard 200 next week. Steve Lacy Wants ‘Bad Habit’ To Dethrone Harry Styles’s ‘As It Was’ On The ‘Billboard’ Hot 100 Chart

Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit” is not just a ridiculously infectious song, it’s also one of the biggest songs this year. The Gemini Rights single has taken over TikTok ever since it came out, and even with summer ending, the hype around it still hasn’t relented. In fact, it’s threatening to dethrone Harry Styles’s massive “As It Was” from its No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which is the longest-running No. 1 single of the decade.

Lacy knows this, and today on his Instagram story, he called for his fans to take action. He posted a screenshot of the chart and added text over it: “ok ermmmm ima need this #1!!!!!! as it was? nah AS IT NEED TO BE,” he wrote, adding some laughing faces.

Other musicians are noticing Lacy’s takeover as well. Today, SZA tweeted, “Steve Lacy being number 2 rn is so f*cking important. Faith restored.”

Unfortunately, Lacy’s fame has some downsides, at least for fans. His tour is selling out fast, with the $35 tickets flying off the shelves almost immediately. Fans took to TikTok using his song “Static” as background to their complaints, with his most devout followers voiced their grievances with him and Ticketmaster about the size of the venues he’s set to play at and the over 300% markup on resale tickets.

Kate Bush And Harry Styles Top Spotify’s Most-Streamed Songs Of The Summer Lists

Every year, music fans crave the knowledge: What is the “song of the summer?” A lot of discussions about that sort of thing tend to be based on opinion, but now Spotify has some hard data to add to the conversation.

The methodology was simple: Check what songs got the most streams on Spotify from May 29 to August 29. That has been done, and if you’re looking at just the United States, Kate Bush’s Stranger Things-boosted hit “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” is No. 1, with Harry Styles’ “As It Was” behind at No. 2. If you check the global list, though, those positions are swapped, with Styles on top and Bush earning silver.

Perhaps the most dominant artist of both lists, though, is Bad Bunny: He has seven songs in the top 20 on the global list and six on the US rank. Besides Styles, Bush, and Bad Bunny, the only artist to make the top 10 of both lists is Joji with “Glimpse Of Us” (No. 5 globally, No. 4 in the US).

Harry Styles’ ‘As It Was’ Stays Atop The Hot 100 Chart For A Ninth Week But Lizzo Is Nipping At His Heels

Harry Styles’ “As It Was” has had an unprecedented time at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart: It’s one of the only tracks to ever reach the No. 1 spot on four non-consecutive occasions. And after topping this week’s Hot 100 (dated July 16), it will remain there for at least another week, its ninth total. However, could the reign of “As It Was” soon be coming to an end?

Lizzo’s “About Damn Time” just soared up a spot to No. 2, now the track’s highest placement so far, as she gets ready to drop her album, Special, this Friday. Jack Harlow’s “First Class” was bumped back down by Lizzo to the No. 3 spot. Meanwhile, Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” has returned to its peak position at No. 4, proving that the Stranger Things effect last far longer than just 15 minutes. Bush moving up two spots dropped “Wait For U” by Future featuring Drake and Tems down a space to the No. 5 spot, and Drake and 21 Savage’s “Jimmy Cooks” down to No. 6.

Rounding out the top 10 are Bad Bunny & Choncho Corleone’s “Me Porto Bonito” at No. 7, Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” holding strong on the chart at No. 8, and Beyoncé’s feverish “Break My Soul” at No. 9. The only new entrant to this week’s top 10 is Latto’s “Big Energy,” who returns to the podium by knocking out Joji’s “Glimpse Of Us” out of the top 10.

Lizzo’s rise to No. 2 is a fortuitously timed one, given her upcoming album release. And perhaps Styles, who just teased the July 13th release of his “Late Night Talking” video, is ready to let another song from Harry’s House have its moment in the sun?
