Nicki Minaj Says Female Rappers Are Being Paid To Diss Her

Nicki Minaj believes that female rappers are being paid by labels and management companies to diss her for clout.

While speaking with Rah Ali during a Stationhead listening event for her single “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” Nicki voiced her thoughts on the state of hip-hop and the “microwaveability” of today’s artists.

“As you rap and you write, you get better. And you get better every day,” said Nicki. “But I think the thing is now, because of the…microwaveability of TikTok artists getting deals and Instagram people getting likes or Twitter people…girls’ labels and management companies paying for viral tweets and paying for Nicki diss tweets and all that.”

Nicki, who is launching her own label, believes that the art of lyricism is lost and that it’s unfair to compare her to others who don’t write their own rhymes.

“It’s kind of like, if I don’t remind them that we’re actually here to rap, who will?” she continued. “And then, on top of that, don’t ever put me in the same muthafu**in’ sentence. Don’t use my name for any examples. You have to write your verses, period. And I say that with love because I think that now maybe people are feeling pressure of having to, I don’t know, do things so fast.”

It’s unclear if Nicki was referring to anyone in particular. She and Latto got into a heated exchange on Twitter last year following the Grammys’ controversial decision to remove “Super Freaky Girl” from the rap category.

“‘Red Ruby,’ I dropped it as a itty-bitty just something,” she said. “‘Cause I know it’s gon’ go off on tour, it’s gon’ go off on y’all. It’s just rapping. But the album, obviously, I have to drop my official single for the album. ‘Red Ruby’s’ not the official single for the album.”

Nicki Minaj’s Husband Kenneth Petty Suddenly Sick, Can’t Attend Mediation With Assault Accuser

Nicki Minaj’s husband Kenneth Petty suddenly became sick ahead of his mediation with the woman who accused him of sexual assault. Moreover, their attorney Steven D. Isser asked Judge James R. Cho to move said proceeding to March 24. Previously, the mediation was scheduled for March 6 and then March 9, but faced last-minute cancelations on both occasions due to Petty’s health. Furthermore, readers likely remember Minaj’s husband’s high-profile assault case and various problems with the sex offender registry. According to court documents obtained by AllHipHop, though, the case is slightly on hold for now.

The documents show that the court ordered all parties to mediation and subsequently postponed it due to health concerns. “We respectfully request that the Court extend the mediation deadline to March 24, 2023,” said Isser. “[This] will hopefully be sufficient time for Mr. Petty to recover and the for parties and the Mediator to schedule a mutually available date for the mediation. Thank you for your attention to this matter.” At the moment, it’s unclear whether such requests received open arms or significant pushback.

Nicki Minaj’s Husband Kenneth Petty Is Too Sick For Mediation

Authorities convicted Petty of first-degree attempted sexual assault in 1995. Afterwards, he served over four years in prison but continued to face legal troubles and skeletons in the closet. For example, his accuser Jennifer Hough claimed that both Petty and Minaj harassed, threatened, and intimidated her following her testimonies. While she dropped the “Super Freaky Girl” rapper in the case, Petty still stands as a defendant. With this in mind, the case now revolves mostly around Petty’s handling of the case overall.

Meanwhile, he also faced charges of failing to register as a sex offender in California. Furthermore, a judge sentenced him to one year of house arrest and three years of probation back in July. However, he sought to push back against his sex offender status in New York, claiming that the state unrightfully placed him on a registry. Whether his illness played a larger role in this case and its postponement remains to be determined. Nicki Minaj’s hit “Super Freaky Girl” appeared in the trailer for Jennifer Lawrence’s upcoming comedy, No Hard Feelings. Moreover, the film hits theaters this summer and stars Lawrence as a young woman on the verge of losing her childhood home. While working, she finds a job listing from parents looking to hook their 19-year-old son up with someone before college. From what the trailer shows, Lawrence takes the leap, and craziness, hilarity, and subtly deep coming-of-age themes follow. Even though it sounds hectic to begin with, it’s well-suited by Minaj’s colorful No. 1 hit.

In fact, that single is one of many that formed part of a prolific run for Nicki recently. Along with that track, there’s “Do We Have A Problem?” with Lil Baby, which started off Nicki’s eventful 2022. “My label wanted me to go full out with a single and everything when I was pregnant, and I couldn’t bring myself to put out a song about p***y and d**ks and sucking and eating,” she elaborated. “I couldn’t bring myself to put a record out like that while my son was growing in my body! To achieve her coveted status as Queen of Rap, Nicki Minaj has been through plenty of tough moments in the spotlight. She has an undeniably fiery Sagittarian personality. This often puts her at the centre of controversy, but earlier this week, the mother of one revealed during a live stream that at least some of the hate sent her way online is paid for by the record labels of her competitors. The conversation took place on Tuesday (March 7). At the time, she was chatting with Rah Ali about the industry’s climate currently.

“Labels and management companies paying for viral tweets and paying for Nicki diss tweets. So now it’s kind of like, if I don’t remind them that we’re actually here to rap, who will?” she explained. Afterward, the Trinidadian artist said she doesn’t want to hear her name in the same breath as the other rappers. “Don’t ever put me in the same motherf*cking sentence, you know,” she ranted. “Don’t use my name.”

As the audio of Minaj speaking her mind continues to make rounds, more people are sharing their opinions. “Narcissist,” one Twitter user labelled the “Super Freaky Girl” before adding, “Labels are not pressed about her like she wants.” Another person joked, “WHO paying??? And why ain’t I get offered a check?” Someone else, still, suggested that “she needs to realize that the [general public] just don’t like her.”

Elsewhere in the replies, others have been pointing out that Minaj has never shied away from feuds. “She’s telling her hand because that’s literally what she had done to Cardi,” someone speculated. “She’s afraid of her karma tbh.” More recently, the 40-year-old appeared to throw shade at Megan Thee Stallion during her surprise Rolling Loud appearance.

During Lil Wayne’s set, Nicki Minaj surprised the audience with some throwback favourites like “Bed Rock,” “High School,” and “Truffle Butter,” as well as her own solo releases. Additionally, she cracked a joke about not “f*cking with horses since Christopher Reeve,” a bar from her new “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” track many are perceiving as shade towards the Houston Hottie. Melle Mel’s examination of Hip-Hop has continued. This time, his topic is Nicki Minaj, who he thinks should not be ranked ahead of Rakim or LL Cool J in any best-of-all-time ranking.

Still dropping pieces on The Art of Dialogue podcast, Melle Mel called Nicki’s placement on Billboard’s Top 50 rappers of all-time list “bullshit.”

“You know that’s some bullshit.” Melle Mel. “Kane and them and Rakim and them they done put up 40, come on now. And I actually like Nicki Minaj but that’s some bullshit. You gotta understand what Hip Hop really is.”

He added, “Rakim should never be 14 because his style changed the game. The average rapper, from a certain point to a certain point, you had to rap like Rakim.”

“If you just talking about the pure rappers like Rakim and somebody like Kool G Rap, those are basically the top rappers of the game. Rakim, he should never be 14.”
