Erykah Badu’s Daughter Puma Curry Covers Keyshia Cole’s “Love” On Live: Watch

Erykah Badu’s reputation as a “maneater” of sorts amongst the men of hip-hop is no secret – just ask Cam’ron. The genre-bending vocalist shares children with Andre 3000, The D.O.C. and Jay Electronica, and it seems her second-born, Puma Curry, is already taking after her mother’s singing talents. In the past, the teenager has teamed up with her mom on creative projects, and she’s already amassed a substantial social media following for herself. On her Instagram, Curry shows off some of her best fashion moments, and she loves to sing for fans on Live from time to time.

Earlier this week, the black-haired beauty was streaming with thousands of followers when she began belting out an infectious R&B ballad. “Love” by Keyshia Cole was her track of choice, and now the clips from the IG Live are circulating online, some feel like Curry might’ve sung the song better than the original artist. “Why Keisha couldn’t sing it like that?! 😂” one user quipped beneath @livebitez’s post.

“Oh she definitely has it!! No question 🔥🔥🔥🔥,” another viewer wrote. With parents as talented as Badu and The D.O.C., it’s no wonder that Curry’s creativity seems to be boundless. It’s unclear if she has plans to release any original music, but on her IG feed Curry has shared more covers. On Tuesday (April 16) she took on Billie Eilish’s “Listen Before I Go,” earning a stamp of approval from her famous mother and thousands of others.

Puma Curry’s cover of one of Keyshia Cole’s biggest hits isn’t the only reason she’s been making headlines lately. Instead, it’s the R&B singer’s budding romance with Hunxho, who’s significantly younger than her, that has our attention at this time. Read what Cole had to say about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

WATCH: O.T. Genasis Apologizes To Keyshia Cole During Los Angeles Show

O.T. Genasis' 'I Look Good' is the Soundtrack for New iPhone 13 Commercial

Keyshia Cole deserves all her flowers!

Boasting seven million followers on Instagram alone, the R&B songstress is best known for her extensive catalog of hit records, including “Love,” “I Should Have Cheated,” “Last Night,” “Heaven Sent,” “Let It Go,” and so much more.

On Saturday, March 30th, Keyshia Cole took the main stage at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, with Trey Songz, K. Michelle, and Jaheim as the openers. As always, the Oakland native showed out with her looks, rocking long black hair paired with a pink bodysuit and thigh-high boots.

Amidst all her smash records, Keyshia had to represent Southern California one time. The crowd was not ready as she brought out O.T. Genasis, initially to perform his own series of hits such as “Everybody Mad” and “Cut It.” But fans didn’t expect a sincere apology from the Long Beach rapper.

For those who aren’t familiar, Keyshia and O.T. Genasis went at it on social media after she disapproved of his rendition of her song “Love.” O.T. even went as far as to attack her personal hygiene, amongst other shots.

The rest of the show was as eventful, such as Keyshia bringing out Jaheim for “I’ve Changed.” Right before this, she broke down in tears as she announced her newest album, which would be her first release in almost seven years. She also paid tribute to her late mother.

“I wanna say I appreciate you. If you ever bought an album… album eight right now on the way. I wanna give a shout out to my mom Frankie. If you watched the reality show, if you watched her: I just wanna say thank you. You helped change my life. Thank you.”

Kaliii Refutes Allegations That She Sampled Keyshia Cole Without Clearance

Last year, Kaliii broke through in a major way. She scored a lingering chart hit with her song “Area Codes.” The track delivered an impressive mix of fast wordy flows and a ton of personality. As she tries to parlay her breakthrough hit into a full blown career she just dropped a new single. The track is called “BOZO” and it contains a sample of the Keyshia Cole track “LOVE.” While many fans took notice of the sample, it seems to have caught Cole herself by surprise.

Keyshia Cole took to Twitter to make a post about having her song sampled without getting permission. While she didn’t name Kaliii directly fans in the comments were able to read between the lines. When one mentioned her name, Cole assured everyone that she didn’t want them to go after her. But eventually Kaliii herself responded assuring fans that the sample was cleared. When Cole once again refuted that it sparked a back and forth between the pair. The interaction reached the point where the rapper had to lean on the fact that any major label song released on all platforms will have it’s samples cleared. Check out the Twitter interaction below.

Kaliii And Keyshia Cole Going Back And Forth

“Keyshia, let’s not act like a song can be distributed on every single major platform without it being cleared by you or your team. your side dropped the ball. Thanks for the wishes, same to you my love” Kaliii’s definitive final tweet on the matter reads.

Additionally, Kaliii has been a hot commodity as a featured artist in the past year. She appeared on a remix of the Flyana Boss song “You Wish” alongside Missy Elliott that has racked up more than 5 million Spotify streams. What do you think of Kalii and Keyshia Cole beefing on Twitter over a sample of “LOVE?” Who do you think is right in the situation? Let us know in the comment section below.

Kaliii Celebrates A Break-Up With A ‘Bozo’ In Lavish Fashion In Her New Video

Kaliii continues to lay down the law. Last year, the ATL rapper made a splash with her viral hit “Area Codes.” Tonight (February 9), our cover star has shared her empowered new single, “Bozo.”

The song precedes her upcoming EP, which is slated for release this spring. On “Bozo,” Kaliii makes it known she’s not the one to play with. She tells the story of a break-up, unfazed about hearing of a man’s infidelity. Evidently, Kaliii heard the news from the man’s mistress, but simply lets the woman know that she can have that man.

“Come to me as a woman? That’s a no-no / ‘Cuz who the f*ck wants smoke about a bozo,” she raps on one of the song’s verse.

The song features a prominent sample of Keyshia Cole’s “Love,” but make no mistake — Kaliii won’t be suckered back in.

After a vocal sample of Cole singing the word “love,” Kaliii raps “F*ck that, ain’t no more love for a ho” and says “his homeboy the one I should’ve chose.”

In the song’s video, Kalii is seen gossiping with her girls about the break-up, then living her best life dressed to the nines on a yacht, while the titular bozo begs for another chance.

You can watch the “Bozo” video above.

Kaliii is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Video Shows Yung Miami And Keyshia Cole Living It Up In The Club

Yung Miami is no stranger to a good party. The City Girls rapper often pops up at industry events but she’s just as likely to be found letting loose at the club. Earlier today, four new videos of Miami hanging out with R&B singer Keyshia Cole hit the internet. In the clips, the pair seem to be dancing nonstop to just about anything that gets put on. Some fans in the comments did point out a difference in energy between the pair. “Keyshia looking like she trying to keep up but really want to be home,” reads one of the top comments on the post.

Yung Miami herself has been subject to a number of interesting news stories recently. Fans found themselves doing mental gymnastics after she called herself “the black Oprah” in a viral clip. While she did clarify that she just meant Oprah is perceived as less black by many, it still rubbed some fans the wrong way. She also spoke loudly on the Carlee Russell situation. “Carlee dead a*s wrong! Ion get it like it’s already hard for black ppl and shit like this just make it harder smh,” Miami said in a tweet last month. “Y’all say everything bout a man just like y’all said that nurse that ran through the red light did that because her bf which was a LIE! That b*tch ain’t do that cause her bf if that’s the cause she should’ve just ran away,” she elaborated.

Yung Miami and Keyshia Cole Hit The Club

Yung Miami has released three new songs this year alongside her partner in City Girls, JT. The first saw them teaming up with Diddy and Fabolous for the summer banger “Act Bad.” They followed it up with a pair of new releases in “Pinata” and “I Need A Thug” released back to back. Since then JT has pivoted to solo work, releasing her debut single as a solo artist “No Bars” last month.

Keyshia Cole’s Ex Niko Khale Recovering From Severe Stabbing Incident

Keyshia Cole and Niko Khale spent several years together as a couple and even brought a son into the world. Ultimately they were unable to make their romantic relationship work despite their best efforts. This sent each singer off on their own path, and boy have they been interesting to watch. Cole’s recent efforts have found her promoting her new biopic and music. Elsewhere, Khale has been having a far less pleasant time recovering from a severe stabbing incident in the hospital. On Saturday (July 1), he shared a message via Instagram informing friends and fans that he’s working hard at getting back on his feet, though it certainly hasn’t been easy.

“Got stabbed in my chest and my arm,” Niko wrote in the caption of his brief photo dump. “My lung was punctured and collapsed. My diaphragm was also ruptured. They had to cut my stomach open and put a tube in my chest so I could breathe,” he explained. “By the grace of God today I’m back on my feet and I am breathing on my own,” he concluded. In the accompanying images, Khale is seen laying in a hospital bed with various tubes monitoring his vitals.

As many have been noting in the comments, the “Winter Coats” artist failed to mention who attacked him. However, seeing as the woman he was dating at the time isn’t pictured with him amid his recovery, there’s been rampant speculation that she’s the guilty party. “Baby one thing about this internet they gone put the pieces together 🤣,” one user wrote, reflecting on the detective-like nature of bored people online.

“Old girl not there… I take it that there’s a warrant out for her arrest 🙏,” another person chimed in. Aside from Niko Khale, Keyshia Cole has spent time with a handful of other men over the years – some more famous than others. Keyshia Cole Says John Singleton Was Supposed To Direct Her Biopic

Keyshia Cole says that the late John Singleton was originally planning to direct her new biopic, Keyshia Cole: This Is My Story. She revealed the detail in a personal message after the film premiered on Thursday. Singleton passed away in 2019 at the age of 51 after suffering a stroke.

“John Singleton, we sat down with him and was supposed to do the movie,” she said. “That didn’t happen then.” She also joked that Singleton didn’t want to cast Cole as herself, which led to her going in a different direction. “Rest in peace John Singleton,” she added.

Keyshia Cole: This Is My Story premiered on Lifetime, on Thursday night. The film follows Cole’s life and music career with a focus on her relationship with her mother, Frankie Lons, who passed away in October 2021 after a drug overdose. Elsewhere in her message after the premiere, Cole dedicated the movie to Lons.

“Mommy this movie is for you,” she stated. “I’ve seen the film five times, so I’ve done a lot of crying and reflecting. For the most part, it’s a reflection of my life and my love I have for my mom. Hate that it ended the way that it did. But the truth is, this is my life.”

Keyshia Cole’s New Biopic

Cole also spoke about how the film came together, revealing that Lifetime reached out to her. “Lifetime was calling for a little while,” she said. “When I did the VERZUZ, they were reaching out about doing the movie. We didn’t do it at that time. Shortly after, my mom had passed. They reached back out like, ‘Yo, this is some things that’s happened.’ My dad passed after that, then my dog 14 years passed. Okay, my best friend too? Gotcha. We decided to capture that during that time, but we were trying to do the movies when I first got signed to Interscope.”

Keyshia Cole Says John Singleton Was Supposed To Do Her Biopic

Trailer for Keyshia Cole's Biopic Produced by Lifetime Released

Keyshia Cole deserves all her flowers, and now fans are getting to know her in the most vulnerable way possible.

On Thursday, June 21st, the Bay Area native celebrated the release of her new biopic titled Keyshia Cole: This Is My Story, which releases on Lifetime this Saturday, June 25th. This serves as Keyshia’s long-awaited acting debut, playing herself in the film while detailing her journey from the streets of Oakland to becoming the multi-Platinum selling artist and television personality she is today.

At the end of the screening, a personal note from Keyshia pops up on the screen stating, “Mommy this movie is for you. You will forever be my inspiration.” The biopic showcases Keyshia’s relationship with her mom, who was addicted to crack and struggled to stay sober despite Keyshia’s bubbling career — as well as the fact that Keyshia has no idea who her biological father is.

Keyshia states, ”I’ve seen the film five times, so I’ve done a lot of crying and reflecting. For the most part, it’s a reflection of my life and my love I have for my mom. Hate that it ended the way that it did. But the truth is, this is my life.”

The “Love” singer also reveals the backstory on how the film came into fruition.

“Lifetime was calling for a little while,” she states. “When I did the VERZUZ, they were reaching out about doing the movie. We didn’t do it at that time. Shortly after, my mom had passed. They reached back out like ‘yo, this is some things that’s happened.’ My dad passed after that, then my dog 14 years passed. Okay, my best friend too? Gotcha. We decided to capture that during that time, but we were trying to do the movies when I first got signed to Interscope. John Singleton, we sat down with him and was supposed to do the movie. That didn’t happen then.”

Keyshia went on to joke that they didn’t hire John Singleton because she wanted to play herself, in which he told her she didn’t have to play herself. She also takes a moment to remember him, stating, “rest in peace John Singleton.”

Attendees were also surprised to hear that Keyshia Cole hated her biggest song, “Love,” when she wrote it.

“I hated it, because I didn’t think that I was really good at writing slow records. But I took my little CD player and sat in the corner, all my friends were drinking. We were in Malibu, I had linked up with some rich chicks out here. They were doing their thing, I sat over there in the corner and I wrote the record. Everybody loved it, but I don’t know. I didn’t like it.”

The craziest part was when Keyshia said the amazing signature riff was an accident. The skip in her voice was a mess up, but she was advised to do it repeatedly.”
