J Cole Feels He Can Run The Game Until “3001”

J Cole is becoming the butt of a lot of jokes online right now after having serious regrets about dissing Kendrick Lamar on “7 Minute Drill.” Fans are becoming comedians saying he is having “post-n*t clarity.” Others are declaring the K-Dot is up 2-0 and bringing back certain bars from “The Heart Part 4.” “Oh, I was just playin’, K-Dot / C’mon, you know a n**** rock witchu, bro” / Shut the f*** up, you sound like the last n**** I know.” However, a majority of people are still enjoying what J Cole brought to the table, especially “3001.”

In our eyes and the community’s, this track features one of the best beats and hungriest flow from Cole. There are plenty of quotables across its two-and-a-half-minute runtime. “I started chiefin’ less and less, it had my cerebral vexed / Too many blessings to be depressed / Went from too stressed to being blessed /
Now, my new recipe’s just keep that f*** s*** from my desk / I don’t want s*** but my breath, I don’t want s*** but my fam’
.” All of these rhymes and relatable messages are performed over a sinister beat from Mike WiLL Made-It, T-Minus, and Pluss.

Kehlani Wants Love “After Hours” On New Single: Stream

Kehlani is lustfully looking for some love in the club even after the lights come on and the people leave on their new single “After Hours.” Right when the song kicks off, we know where this inspiration comes from: the song samples Nina Sky’s club-dominating 2004 smash hit “Move Ya Body.” However, this time around, they build it up with some tropical instrumentation, gorgeous harmonies, background vocals, and a much more tender approach than the original. Overall, it makes for a surprising but welcome reinterpretation that the Oakland native makes entirely their own. Still, if you haven’t heard “Move Ya Body” in a long time, this track will definitely remind you of just how undeniable, groovy, and infectious that opening percussion pattern is.

As such, “After Hours” ends up blending a couple of different elements together to make for a pretty ambiguous genre classification, which we mean in the best way possible. The sampled drums give it that hard hip-hop-adjacent grime that refuses to lock itself out of your body’s internal rhythm for hours after you listen. In addition, Kehlani’s vocal melodies and tone show their dexterity in the realm of R&B, whereas the instrumentation and flow mixed with the drums might remind listeners of dancehall styles. While this isn’t anything special lyrically, it definitely checks the catchy box and emotively showcases much more than lust through the production and songwriting. Maybe try playing this song when your night out is winding out, and you’ll see the results for yourself.

Kwazii Is “Leaving” Struggle Behind On New Single: Stream

Kwazii’s built his career so far on pretty familiar sounds, but what makes him a truly compelling artist today is his seamless blends of them. Moreover, on his new single “Leaving,” he effortlessly incorporates a few different styles in a narrative of fame, lust and his come-up. When the track’s drum pattern kicks off, and the Canadian artist’s vocals kick in, some listeners out there might expect a dancehall-adjacent melodic performance. But as soon as the harsh snares kick in, and his flows speed up into more elaborate bars, it becomes clear that this is a combination of classic hip-hop lyricism, contemporary beat-making, and external genre influences that create a moody sonic pallet.

Furthermore, it’s this fusion that will likely make “Leaving” one of the most surprising playlist adds for your week. Kwazii does a great job of flipping certain expectations here, as the vocal chops here are in pretty heavy contrast with the more industrially-toned drums that enter with the verse. There are also a couple of measured but almost unnoticeable flow switch-ups here that keep his vocal performance quite dynamic. As for the lyrical matter, this is no unexplored territory, but there’s a certain honesty to the bars here that can be hard to come across. Acknowledging mistakes and disinterest in commitment can often be framed against the other side of a fling, but here, accountability and hard work seem to be what drives the narrative forward.

Kwazii’s “Leaving”: Stream & Watch The Music Video

Meanwhile, as Kwazii continues to make a name for himself in the game, we’re very excited to see what else he has to offer. Singles like these are already a solid indication of what’s to come, and now all that’s left is for him to capitalize on this potential. If you haven’t heard “Leaving” yet, check out the music video above and peep some notable bars below. Megan Thee Stallion Claims The Twerking Throne While Throwing It Back To New GloRilla Collab

Megan Thee Stallion is sending fans into a frenzy again on Instagram, this time with a video of her twerking to her new GloRilla collab, “Wanna Be.” “IG after dark lol and nobody better not challenge me bc this the best a** on IG,” she captioned her video. “or if you think so tag me in your video [crying-laughing emoji] stream WANNA BE.” Not only that, but the Houston MC also tagged some of her friends in the comments, challenging them to one-up her skills. “you win!!!!” Chloe Bailey wrote under the clip, whereas Big Glo had this to say in two separate comments: “Omggggggggg… I’m posting mine tomorrow you gmfu.”

Of course, this is par the course for a lot of Megan Thee Stallion’s dancing prowess online, and more importantly, it’s tied to a pretty solid banger. She might evoke the lust of many a thirsty social media user, but in 2024, it’s been clear that her comeback won’t slouch on the artistic tip. With singles like “Cobra” and “HISS” under the 29-year-old’s belt already, her lyrical and performance prowess on these cuts was a treat for fans to witness. Also, an upcoming summer tour is bound to yield some big moments, impressive displays of all of the above, and plenty of growth.

Megan Thee Stallion Twerks Up A Storm To “Wanna Be”: Watch

However, there have also been recent indications that this side of Megan Thee Stallion, the throw-it-back queen, might not take center stage on her next full-length. “How many songs do y’all feel like y’all wanna hear on this album?” she asked fans during a recent Instagram Live session. “In my mind, I was thinking 14, but I keep recording songs that’s so good! The first 20 songs I had, I’m just straight rapping. And then I started being in a better mood, so it’s like feel-good songs, and then I got in a ratchet mood because you know it’s about to be summertime!

“I just remember how y’all used to really whack me for making pop that a** music,” Thee Stallion continued. “I really wanted to get on y’all’s a**es and show y’all how bad I can rap, so I really haven’t been in touch with my roots. I’m trying to see if y’all wanna pop that a**, what it’s giving?” Apparently, her pen is making a strong return on her next album either way, and that’s more exciting than anything. You also have Ye’s oldest daughter North getting ready to drop her debut album Elementary School Dropout.

Omar Apollo Is Still Hooked On A Past Relationship On “Spite”

Omar Apollo is one of the more unsung talents in the alternative space. He has plenty of high-prolife features for artists such as Kali Uchis, Daniel Caesar, Joji, and more. Apollo also dabbles in Latin music, which can be credited to his Mexican parents. All in all, he is an extremely versatile talent that deserves more recognition for his work. Omar Apollo is back to prove his skillset again with “Spite.”

This is his first offering of 2024 as a whole so far. He did come through in October with a four-track EP called Live For Me. It featured the lead single “Ice Slippin,” and most of the songs were moodier in tone and production. With “Spite” though, Omar brings some more lively and upbeat production courtesy of a guitar and light drums. On this record, he is singing about a relationship that has him strangled.

41 Throws A “Birthday” Bash On Their New Single

41 have been one of the main voices out of the Brooklyn drill scene for a few months now. The trio consisting of Kyle Richh, Jenn Carter and TaTa are gaining more and more notoriety by the day it seems. They famously received a co-sign from Travis Scott as well as another prominent voice in their respective subgenre, Fivio Foreign. Today, 41 is back to bring one heck of party banger called “Birthday.”

MCVertt also gives the group another beat here, and it is slightly different from the traditional drill formula. There are some subtle horn sections thrown in to help break up the constant flow of 808s and bass. Everyone from 41 brings their unique deliveries to “Birthday,” which is something you can always count on from them. Another thing that will never be left out of a track from them are their particular themes of partying, women, and violence.

That is where their music might falter for some. Especially when drill music has its limitations when it comes to production, talking about the same things over and over again will also lead to it becoming stale ever faster. But if 41’s formula is not broke, which it appears to not be, keep it trucking. Be sure to check out “Birthday” and its music video above.

Twoaym Continues To Impress On “Clyde” With Tyson Sybateli

A few weeks ago, we discovered a new artist who goes by Twoaym. She hails from Ohio’s state capital of Columbus and has been releasing tracks since 2020. It all started with “Koolin’,” a laid-back trap-flavored cut, featuring some singing reverbed singing chops. That would go on to be the lead single for her debut album Unsolicited, which dropped in February of 2021. However, she would go on to take quite a gap in between releasing music. She would return in 2023 with “Never Gan,” a mean-mugging banger with entrancing string sections.

But Twoaym would then take several months in between that and “Kush Mints.” This was the track that caught our attention, and it has been on repeat for us. It sees her effortlessly glide over a woozy instrumental with a buttery smooth and speedy delivery. One the track, Twoaym is rapping from a position of power, making sure the competition knows who is looking to take the throne. In fact, she mentioned how this approach is going to be all over her upcoming EP The Story of Makaveli.

She discussed it in a recent interview with Matter saying, “If you listen to the songs, most of them have this aggression. And for me, it’s about having my enemies fear me, and knowing it’s better to be feared than loved.” That similar energy is on her latest single “Clyde,” which features South African rapper Tyson Sybateli. Production wise, the tone is much darker and more intimidating and both performers bring relentless flows. “N**** we out here,” Twoaym repeats on the chorus. She is certainly chomping at the bit to get this tape out and we can hear the hunger in her voice on this new single.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Clyde,” by Twoaym and Tyson Sybateli? Is this the best track she has dropped as of late, why or why not? Millyz & Meek Mill Are “Soul Survivors” On Their First Collaboration

Cambridge, Massachusetts rapper Millyz is here to deliver a new single with Meek Mill called “Soul Survivor.” The seven-year veteran continues to prove he has the technical abilities that deserve similar respect to those with more popularity. On this fresh cut, Millyz is talking about making it through tough situations and being able to protect himself during the process. He also asks for forgiveness from the man upstairs for the mistakes he has made in his past as well.

Overall, it is an inspirational and personal cut from Millyz and it deserves its praise. Meek Mill is also on this cut and it is the first time he has worked with him. Their styles match up pretty well, especially considering some of the tracks that Meek puts out. His portion is kind of short and it feels like he was on “Soul Survivor” to bring some chatter and not much else.
