The Joe Budden Podcast Reacts To J Cole Addressing Drake & Kendrick Lamar Beef On “Port Antonio”

Earlier this week, J Cole took fans by surprise by dropping his new track, “Port Antonio.” In it, he addresses Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s feud, which left listeners split. While some continue to believe he did the right thing by backing down, others think he should stop apologizing for things, including Joe Budden. During a recent episode of his podcast, Budden called Cole out, making it clear that he thinks trying to make amends with Drake just makes him look “soft.”

“I hate this soft hip hop sh*t, it’s soft. Call it what it is,” he said. “These n****s out here is h*es and b*tches… Having to cater to the feelings of n****s that they don’t invite to Thanksgiving, to Christmas, to New Year’s Eve.”

Joe Budden Calls Out J Cole

Budden continued, noting that while he’s not exactly a fan of Cole’s stance in this whole thing, he thinks he did a great job executing. “My caveat, exceptional rap. I’m saying two different points, this is exceptional rapping,” he said. It looks like Budden isn’t the only one who liked the song, however. Following its release on Instagram fans were quick to notice that Drake liked J Cole’s post. This appears to suggest that he liked what he heard, which doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise. After all, J Cole had nothing but nice things to say about him in the song.

“They say I’m pickin’ sides, ayy, don’t you lie on me, my n***a / Then start another war, ayy, Drake, you’ll always be my n***a / I ain’t ashamed to say you did a lot for me, my n***a,” he spits, for example. Pharrell Williams & Tyler, The Creator Rep Their Respective Hometowns On “VIRGINIA Boy – Remix”

Pharrell Williams’ LEGO biopic, Piece By Piece, is in theaters as of yesterday, and we want to start off by congratulating him! The actor, producer, rapper, singer, and everything in between has fans and critics raving about the project so far! It has a respectable review from IMD.b of a 7.1 out of 10, and Rotten Tomatoes has a fan score of 91% and a critic score of 81%! We are wishing him nothing but the best going forward with this bold and creative motion picture. In typical fashion, though, Mr. Williams wasn’t just going to gift us a film, we have some new original music accompanying it.

One of the tracks that we have been replaying heavily has been Pharrell and Tyler, The Creator’s “VIRGINIA Boy – Remix.” The influential legend and his modern-day reincarnation are once again having a great time on a track together as they rap about where they’re from and detail it’s vital features. “Hawthorne, Inglewood, West Side, that side / I will kick, kick, kick, push to the other side / South Bay where they drown if they get it out of line / Dark red, light blue, and they keep a magic wand (Boom),” Tyler raps, for instance. Production of the song is handled entirely by Pharrell and its pure excellence. It exudes swagger right from the jump thanks to its bouncy West Coast beat and its saxophone bits. Give the track a spin with the link below.

GloRilla & Sexyy Red Finally Link For The First Time With “WHATCHU KNO ABOUT ME”

GloRilla’s debut album, GLORIOUS, is finally here. Listening to it, there are thankfully some instrumental/production and topical risks on the 15-song set. One thing that you could find as a weakness overall is her tendency to stick to what she knows. But on GLORIOUS, there are some tributes to gospel, which lead to some instances of personal reflection. Don’t get it twisted, though. Big Glo is still delivering her trademark crunk aesthetic with trunk-knocking bangers about confidence, independence, and the like. Speaking of the latter, one of the songs that GloRilla does best with is “WHATCHU KNO ABOUT ME.”

Shockingly, for the first time ever, her and Sexyy Red collide on it, and they have great chemistry. The beat may sound familiar to some as it samples Boosie Badazz’s and Webbie’s “Wipe Me Down.” Credit goes to Yo Gotti, Ace Charisma, and Lil Ronnie for putting a banging spin on it. The CMG boss is actually all over her debut album as a producer. Both leading ladies bring the brags, but Red adds an extra sense of grittiness that helps take this song to the next level. “WHATCHU KNO ABOUT ME” is already trending on YouTube with over 1.5 million views in its first 24 hours, so this looks to be an early fan-favorite.

Ty Dolla Sign Seemingly Defends Diddy In Leaked ‘FRIED’ Demo

Ty Dolla Sign established a reputation for fraternizing with complicated figures when he decided to link up with Kanye West. The R&B singer decided to release two collab albums with West during the wildest and most controversial period of the latter’s career. One of the songs these two worked on was “FRIED,” which appeared on VULTURES 2. A demo version of the song leaked on October 11, however, and it saw Ty Dolla Sign decide to take a very bold stance in favor of another complicated figure: Diddy.

Ty Dolla references the disgraced mogul in a verse that was scrapped from the final version. “Don’t say no Diddy ’round me,” the singer croons over the demo. “That’s my dog.” It’s a genuinely surprising take to dish out on a song in 2024, when public opinion of Diddy could not be lower. Furthermore, Diddy is currently behind bars. He’s awaiting trial on federal charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, and is facing 15 years to life. Ty Dolla Sign defending Diddy is, as they say on the internet, a choice. Especially given Kanye West’s feelings toward the Bad Boy founder.

Ty Dolla Sign Declared That Diddy Was His “Dog”

Kanye West has made it clear that he does not co-sign Diddy. He infamously roasted the Bad Boy founder when he appeared on a 2023 episode of Drink Champs. “As far as Meek Mill, Puff Daddy, whoever, none of these n**gas,” he told the hosts. “All of you fake hard n**gas, f**k you!” To make matters even more bold, West accused Diddy of being protected by the feds. “You can’t shoot nobody anyway,” he asserted. “And the reason why you gotta talk is because you did a deal, you f**king fed!”

Ty Dolla Sign has put forth a pretty unified front with West during these tumultuous VULTURES rollouts. Even when West seemingly flew off the handle and made controversial statements. His decision to cape for Diddy is one that has not been met with much praise from the internet. It remains to be seen whether Ty’s scrapped bars will get him in trouble with fans. Best case scenario, though, it’s still a very bad look.

Bruiser Wolf & Zack Fox Trade Fantastic Verses On “Mountain Lion”

Bruiser Wolf has become one of hip-hop’s lovable goofballs/personalities this year. This all thanks to the tutelage of Detroit legend and underground stalwart Danny Brown. He made his big appearance on the latter’s Quaranta album from last November on the track “Y.B.P.” This has helped push his solo career, which did start at the top of 2024, to new heights. He dropped “Dope Boy,” which would go on to be the lead and only single for his breakout project, My Story Got Stories. He did have a 2021 tape Dope Game Stupid, but this one is going to help push him into the spotlight much more.

Since that project’s release, Bruiser Wolf has gone on to give us his F1LTHY collab “Rope Chain” (a pretty big surprise) and “Brick Up” prior to that. With that in mind, there’s a chance we are heading toward another new tape, perhaps near the beginning of 2025. We say that because we are back listening to another single from Bruiser Wolf, “Mountain Lion.” It features another undergrounder in Zack Fox, who brings along a longtime producer along for the ride, CONNIE. The producer gives them a stripped back instrumental, which is pretty much sample flip that features the repetition of “loving you” woven into each of their verses. It’s got a nice guitar riff laced in as well, but this track is more about Bruiser and Zack’s stellar yet totally different portions, tonally speaking.

Ab-Soul Is Esoteric As Ever On Jazzy New Single “Squeeze 1st 2”

Ab-Soul is a lyrical wizard. He considers himself to be the best rapper alive, and when he’s on his A game, it’s easy to see why. He packs his verses with dense references and a devilish sense of humor that sometimes actually verges on devilish. Soulo did drop an album that was inspired by occultist Alastair Crowley, after all. “Squeeze 1st 2” is a more direct offering from the TDE veteran, but that doesn’t mean it’s light on the wordplay. Ab-Soul puts on a clinic over a catchy horn sample that anchors his vocals and gives some shape to his otherwise stream of consciousness bars.

“Squeeze 1st 2” is presumably the first offering from an upcoming Ab-Soul album. TDE has teased a new release from their headiest member, and as far as building up hype goes, this single does a good job. It’s catchy without compromising what ultimately makes Soulo such a memorable rapper. “The best rapper alive or not,” he spits. “Was laced by the greats. I just had to tie the knot.” There are memorable rhymes about quesadillas, Miles Davis horn solos, and wanting smoke despite not being a Cuban cigar maker. Ab-Soul takes his craft very seriously, but he doesn’t take himself too seriously, and this new song is a prime example. We can’t wait to hear more.

Lil Durk And Hunxho Takes A Smooth Detour With “Late Checkout” Single

It really feels like Lil Durk is gearing up for his best album yet. The rapper has already proven himself to be a Grammy-winning and chart-topping talent. The rollout for his upcoming release, however, has seen him be even sharper than usual. The singles have been excellent. The tracklist, despite being hampered by feature rumors, is sprawling without being too long. And with “Late Checkout,” Lil Durk proves that he is going to show fans every facet of his musical talent. Previous single “Monitoring Me” was a vicious cut, but “Late Checkout” is a smooth, R&B-inflected bop with a slick feature from Hunxho.

Lil Durk is best known for his emotive and hard-hitting trap songs. He understands that different sounds and vibes are crucial to making a great project, though. “Late Checkout” is proof that he’s striving to put out a classic. The song sees Lil Durk deliver some haunting vocals over the intro, before slipping into an effortlessly catchy flow. The rapper laments a relationship that has fallen on rough times, which is pretty standard, topic wise, but he gives it specificity and passion. It helps that “Late Checkout” is just catchy. Hunxho slides through on the backend of the song with a mumbly, charisma-driven verse that keeps it from every getting monotonous. Another winner.

Chino Pacas Teases Snippet Of New Drake Collab “Modo Capone”

Drake’s assessment of young talent has been a controversial topic. He has proven to have a good eye when it comes to picking out artists before they make it big, and linking up for a collab. He did it with The Weeknd in 2011, and has kept it moving ever since. Some claim that these are instances of Drake being a culture vulture, a musical vampire, others praise his musical versatility and ability to co-sign. Chino Pacas is the latest example of this phenomenon.

Pacas has exploded over the last two years. He signed to Street Mob in 2023, and released his breakout single, “El Gordo Trae el Mando,” soon after. The song charted on the Billboard Hot 100, and Drake made it clear he was rocking with the teen sensation. The 6 God walked out to an unreleased Chino Pacas tune during a 2024 appearance at a Houston rodeo. He’s set to appear on the single “Modo Capone,” which is on Pacas’ upcoming debut. And on October 10, a week before its release, we were given a snippet of the anticipated collab.

Chino Pacas Is Rumored To Sign A Label Deal With Drake

The snippet only lasts 28 seconds, and doesn’t include vocals from Drake or Chino Pacas. It does give fans, however, a feel for what “Modo Capone” is going to sound like. The instrumental is littered with hi hats and a busy synth line. It feels very moody and nocturnal, which is right in the Drake wheelhouse. It would not be surprising to find out that Drake’s longtime producer, Noah “40” Shebib, had a hand in the sound of “Modo Capone.” The instrumental also provides some insight into the rumors that Drake and Chino Pacas have a more substantial collab lined up.

JOP, a member of Fuerza Regida, claimed that Pacas has plans to sign a one album deal with Drake and OVO member Chubbs. The rapper announced that Drake and Chubbs are launching a brand new label. The label is reportedly called PFL, and Pacas is alleged to be the first artist to sign on. Neither Drake nor Pacas have spoken on the rumors. The latter, however, has spoken about how much he enjoys working with Drake. He also cited the Toronto rapper as a musical influence. We can’t wait to see what these two cook up for the fans.

KSI Thanks Drake For Cosigning His Virally Clowned Trippie Redd Collab

KSI and Trippie Redd recently spoke to Official Charts for an interview about their new song “Thick Of It,” which is going viral for a few different reasons. One of them is the barrage of hate that the record received, which the artists briefly touched on but overall dismissed in the face of the track’s wider success. Another is how Drake responded to it, reposting it on an Instagram Reel and asking Adin Ross to play it on his stream. While we and many others assumed that the 6ix God did this in a mocking manner, it turns out that he actually has a lot of love for the collab.

The Drake thing was crazy, man,” KSI expressed. “For him to even put the song on his Reel, that’s huge. I just couldn’t believe it, I was like, ‘What the hell?’ To be honest, I didn’t actually know. I had several people message me. Like, ‘Bro, Drake’s used your song!’ I’d just woken up like, ‘Yo, what?’ Then I saw it, and I was like ‘Mad!’ I messaged him saying ‘Big up, thank you for using it,’ and he was like, ‘Yo, I had to, it gets the people going!’ That’s sick, he’s legit. I appreciate it.”

KSI Speaks On Drake Cosign

Of course, Drake and Trippie Redd also have a pretty strong relationship, so this love is no surprise. Whether through past collaborations or previous link-ups, it seems like they’re still connected and supporting each other’s art. Whether or not the Internet agrees with the praise is another story. But as KSI and Trippie noted to Official Charts, they have plenty of responses on both ends to balance this. It made them appreciative of the overall reception and performance of the cut.

“I was held hostage to do this,” Trippie Redd joked on social media about his new KSI collab. “If this doesn’t hit 20 million the first month, KSI won’t let me go. Please free me.” We’ll see what’s the next viral hit to receive a Drake cosign, and how the relationship between these three artists continues to develop in the future.

J Cole Gets Called Out For Rewriting History On New Song “Port Antonio”

Last night, J Cole unveiled his new track “Port Antonio,” and it has since sparked a major debate on social media. In the song, he addresses Drake and Kendrick Lamar’s viral beef, which he famously bowed out of after dropping “7 Minute Drill.” He issued an apology for the Kendrick diss track at Dreamville Fest in April. Cole got a lot of heat for this at first, but after watching how Drake and Kendrick’s lyrical battle played out, fans agreed that he made the right call.

On “Port Antonio,” J Cole essentially claims that he backed out of the feud because his opponents wanted clout, and that he was more afraid of losing a friend than losing a battle. “I wouldn’t have lost a battle, dawg, I woulda lost a bro,” he spits. “I woulda gained a foe, and all for what? Just to attain some mo’ / Props from strangers that don’t got a clue what I been aimin’ for?”

J Cole Addresses Drake & Kendrick Lamar Beef On New Song

So far, listeners are split. While many still think J Cole did the right thing by rising above, some are accusing him of rewriting history. Others are simply calling him corny for bringing up beef that for the most part, fizzled out months ago.

“Boy apologized now tryna double back. ‘I coulda won the battle.’ my n***a you bowed out and rode your bike for 6 months dodging smoke,” one user writes on Twitter/X. “Mixed messages. J. Cole wants to be the bigger man, but there’s inconsistency. He claims he can out-rap anyone, then avoids beef for friendship, and now says he could’ve won but didn’t want to lose a bro? You can’t have it both ways, and that’s what put him in this position,” another argues.
