Russ Is In A Different Mode On “Get Up & Get It”

Russ certainly has a lot of room to talk when it comes to writing motivational songs and its why “Get Up & Get It” has weight to its words. However, we have to be completely transparent and say there are some bars that feel forced. “She sayin’ she vegan, how, girl? (How?) / Your favorite position is cowgirl / The sex after fighting makes fighting feel worth it“. Overall, the track has a great overlying message to it and there are some lines that come across better than the ones above. But in that same breath, we feel that the execution isn’t fully there.

We would say its why there is a solid group of hip-hop fans out there who would say that Russ inconsistent. But at the end of the day, you have to give it to him for hustling as hard as he has for so long. It’s hard not talk about it because it’s made Russ into one of the most successful underground/independent MCs in the genre’s history. His mindset to feed fans with an influx of singles, projects, and shows is truly commendable. Speaking of which, Russ recently revealed that “Get Up & Get It” will be the last record before his Europe tour. The guy is simply a workaholic, and we respect everything he’s done until this point. Check out the single and see what you think.

Jay Worthy & MadeinTYO Preview Their Upcoming EP With “Master Delux”

Jay Worthy and MadeinTYO have a joint effort on the way soon and they are kicking things off with “Master Delux”. This is the lead single from an upcoming EP that you wouldn’t know about if not for some slightly deeper digging. The underground California MC announced that “Master Delux” was out yesterday on his Instagram, and in the comments was the Hawaiian-born multi-hyphenate spilling some tea. “I’m ready for this EP, thanks for letting me rap & make the beats 🙏🏾😤✔”. If you haven’t been keeping up with MadeinTYO as of late, you may want to. If his “Uber Everywhere” era was something that you weren’t rocking with because it was too mainstream, his recent material might be for you.

He’s been on quite the torrent stretch in terms of producing some jazzier and drum-less beats for some of the underground’s best. For example, just over a month ago, MadeinTYO connected with New York’s Ransom for a mini three-track EP, SMOKE & MIRRORS. While obviously robust in terms of length, the minimalist instrumentals from MadeinTYO made room for some excellent performances from Ransom. Overall, we are saying that he can bring out some quality material from other artists. With Jay Worthy being on a solid run himself, it makes sense that these two are linking up. We don’t have any other information in regard to when their collaborative EP will drop, nor the title, tracklist, and cover art. What we can pretty safely say though is that Jay and TYO will deliver tenfold together. The production on “Master Delux” is almost nonexistent. However, it’s really beautiful and delicate on the ears. They also display chemistry on the mic, making for a complete listen.

Tommy Richman Delivers An Emotional Ballad With “THOUGHT YOU WERE THE ONE”

Tommy Richman has become both a darling and a mortal enemy in the eyes of hip-hop purists. The DMV/Woodbridge, Virginia singer and rapper has been making waves in the underground/indie scene for a few years now. Since being taken under by R&B mainstay Brent Faiyaz, his career has really blossomed. He’s now a superstar in the making and like we said earlier there are some mixed feelings towards his growing popularity. “MILLION DOLLAR BABY” is the record that’s been ruffling some feathers, but he is clearly not looking to fit into any mold. Tommy Richman is showing that with each new release, including on “THOUGHT YOU WERE THE ONE”.

This single number four or five from his next full-length project COYOTE, which will be out on September 27. Part of the reason that Tommy Richman doesn’t really conform to any sort of stereotype are his unique production choices and wild vocal delivery. His high pitch notes are something that no one could really replicate in our opinion. It might sound goofy and too over the top to some, but to us its a breath of fresh air. His upper register allows for the emotional weight of the song to really shine through. You can hear the wishful thinking in his voice somehow, as he dreams about wanting a girl to be in his life. Check out the single with the link below.

Quotable Lyrics:

Maybe thеre’s a chance if I pray every day, I’ma get what I want to
I dreamed last night, you’re in my head
You’re always sticking with me even when I don’t want you
I’m treating you right, not doing you wrong
I know you won’t forget the night you spent so long
Looking at my face, my eyes are a maze

Lil Tecca Pens An Earworm About Poor Relationships With “BAD TIME”

Queens, New York rapper, singer, and producer Lil Tecca is continuing to tease his next album with “BAD TIME”. It’s potentially the fifth offering from what will presumably be called Plan A. At this moment in time, the 22-year-old has not announced an official release date nor the tracklist for it. However, Genius is predicting it to hit streaming platforms this September, so we will see what happens. In some other potential news, with “BAD TIME” being out we may have a hint as to what the cover art for Plan A could be. It features a white background with a minimalist cheetah skin clock.

Prior to this, Genius had a full cheetah skin for the artwork. We aren’t really sure what that could all mean, but we are just trying to find some more information on what could be a great Lil Tecca project. We say that because a majority of the singles have been hitting thanks to some truly sticky melodies and flows. “BAD TIME” features more of the same while the “500lbs” artist raps about being in a constant rotation of bad relationships. Based on all of these relationship cuts we have gotten it could be fair to say that Tecca is making more of a melodic/R&B type of vibe.

Chance The Rapper Expresses His Love For Performing On “3333”

It seems like Chance The Rapper fans are listening to his request about not calling Star Line an album. We say that because the Chicago, Illinois native has another single out this weekend for his upcoming fifth project. It’s been quite a long road back for Chancellor Johnathan Bennett, as his 2019 debut album The Big Day was sadly a big disaster. After great releases such as Coloring Book and Acid Rap, the bloated and cumbersome record left a sour taste in a lot of people’s mouths, but it’s clear that something like this isn;t going to happen again. Chance The Rapper has been taking his time releasing new tracks and he’s sounding extremely focused once more like on “3333” for example.

According to Uproxx, this song is sort of a loose recounting of a show that he put on at an undersold venue in Minnesota. “3333” was the number of tickets that were purchased at the state’s fair, even though it holds a maximum of up to 14,000. He had the chance to cancel the show, but that’s something that he could never bring himself to do. Chance told the crowd, “I want you to know that whole ticketing thing. I’d perform for one of y’all”. He doesn’t care about selling out arenas and stadiums, he just wants to be able to display his passion on stage for anyone that is willing to show even if its “for one”. His joyous nature on “3333” shows that Chance The Rapper has so much love for what he does, and we are loving the humility and good vibes he’s exuding.

But every hand in that place gang get thrown up

Killer Mike Enlists El-P & Rock D The Legend For “Black Ops 6” Track “Detonator”

Whether you like it or not, Killer Mike has been having one of his most successful years in his storied career. Since the release of MICHAEL and its deluxe last summer, he’s been on one heck of a tear. The solo sophomore album went onto take multiple categories at this year’s GRAMMY Awards, upsetting one fan base in particular along the way. Those incredible achievements didn’t make him complacent, though. He went on to drop Michael & The Mighty Midnight Revival, Songs For Sinners And Saints on August 2, a continuation of that rap/gospel mixture. Now, Killer Mike is working with video game giant Activision for a new single called “Detonator”. The record is essentially the theme song for the upcoming Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 which drops on October 25.

Hip-hop and this iconic video game series have been linked together for quite a while. Eminem did a similar thing for Call Of Duty: Ghosts with “Survival” back in 2013. Now, its Killer Mike’s turn and he’s recruiting some close friends to help him. Rapper Rock D The Legend and MC/producer El-P are here to bring this thing to life, and it’s always a blast to see the Run The Jewels reconnect. It’s been quite a bit since we’ve gotten a new project from the duo. If you remember, 2020 was the year when they put out the fourth RTJ tape. El-P did contribute to MICHAEL, but hearing Mike over his good buddy’s production is always a treat. “Detonator” comes with a music video, which you can view below, and the song is also out now on DSPs.

Cordae & Anderson .Paak Recount Their Childhoods Before Rap Over J. Cole-Produced “Summer Drop”

Cordae is someone who has so much talent, but in that same breath does not have the most consistent full-length projects. Well, he might prove those skeptics wrong when the former YBN crew mate puts out his third studio album, The Crossroads. At the time of writing, the Maryland MC does not have a release date in mind for it, but it is coming very soon. So far, we know for sure of one song that will be on the record, and that is the stupendous “Saturday Mornings” which features Lil Wayne. Now, though, Cordae is bringing out the second sure-fire inclusion, “Summer Drop”.

This cut sees Cordae working with now-frequent collaborator Anderson .Paak, as well as J. Cole. For those hoping for a rapping performance, you are going to be let down some. He plays more of a background role, as he is credited as a producer here. However, that’s not necessarily a disappointment because Cole is one heck of an underrated producer. Him, along with Kelsey Gonzalez, lay down another soulful instrumental with constant rushes of horns and a punchy and glitchy boom bap drum pattern. Both .Paak and Cordae are getting nostalgic and personal on “Summer Drop”, recounting their respective childhoods before raking in the big bucks as rap superstars. Check out the incredible single below.

My n****, what you know about those hot summers? No air condition

I done lost so many homies, in summers I cherish livin’
Nobody care to listen, they suffer from their decision (When the summer dropped)

Victoria Monet & USHER Are Ready For Action On “SOS (Sex On Sight)”

Victoria Monet and USHER are really laying it down in a hot and heavy manner on their new single, “SOS (Sex on Sight)”. This track belongs to the former of the two artists and it’s one she’s been teasing for a little over a week. On the 20th, the Atlanta Georgia native would go on to announce the release date and title of the track on her Instagram in a brief video in which she also teased the beginning of the audio, too. Then, on August 22, Monet was creating quite a lot of buzz within her fan base, hinting that a feature would be on “SOS”.

““SOS” = SEX ON SIGHT!!! 😌 Who do you think the feature is? 👀 tag them”. Finally, a day later, USHER would go to be revealed as the guest artist, which marks their first collaboration together now. This song sees one of the current R&B stars work alongside a true legend of the genre in a cool mixture of eras. “SOS” shows that in the production department, especially, thanks to the slow-mo/sensual vibe. It feels like something from the early 2000s, but it has more modern touches, too. That can be attributed to the groovy and funky bass lines, shimmering synth passages, and celebratory horn sections. Monet has been in this sonic fixation on her past two projects, but it’s been working, and it is here on “SOS (Sex on Sight)”.

‘Cause I think it’s about time we take this all the way

Doesn’t matter ’cause they both gon’ fit you perfect
And I’m ready, so don’t make me have to do this on my own

C4Y Continues To Build Momentum With “SLOTH (I’S CLOSED)”

C4Y is a fresh face for us at HNHH, but the Chicago, Illinois native has been around the block for a little bit now. He’s got singles dating all the way back to 2020 and project as old as three years. Also something to note about him, is that he is always ready to drop at multiple points throughout the year. In 2021, C4Y gave fans a short, four-track EP called HAUS TAPES, Vol. 1, and OMFG. 2022 consists of B4, C4, and MONEY CARS DRANK, which has a deluxe as well. Then, in 2023 he put out Made Me Laugh and Pain Fosters Art. 2024 has yet to see an LP or EP, but C4Y might nearing one of those with the release of “SLOTH (I’S CLOSED)”.

This is the sixth single from the soon-to-be 24-year-old underground rapper and its coming on the heels of “GREED (PROMISE IM PAID)”. In fact, that track is logged as our first piece for C4Y, so we are happy to be continuing to cover his growth as an artist. Speaking of which, how would we describe his style? Well, we did cite that we hear bits and pieces of Playboi Carti and Lil Baby, previously. We would say that remains true, at least for the former on “SLOTH (I’S CLOSED)”. C4Y isn’t rocking the deep voice that Carti’s been sporting lately, but he sounds more like the latter’s earlier work. He melodically raps in a high register with help of auto-tune, but it doesn’t sound overly processed. We could see this being a new hit for C4Y thanks to the melodies he creates both with his flows and the twinkling piano leads laced into the glitzy instrumental. Hear it for yourself with the link below.

BlakeIANA Is Becoming A Real “Problem” For The Competition On New Single

It seems that 2024 is the year for the women in hip-hop to either reinstate their dominance or break out. In this case, BlakeIANA fits in the latter category and she’s going to a big “Problem” real soon for the rest of her contemporaries. This is her latest single, and according to a press release, it’s a promotional track for her future mixtape. The details on the project are muddy right now, but her reps are saying it will be out sometime this fall. When it does eventually hit streaming platforms later this year, it will become her first LP of any kind. While we don’t have a lot of concrete information, we can assume that a few past singles will also make it onto the final product.

Her first professional release “BING BONG” is also her first hit record. That has to be a lock given its stature in Blake’s early catalog. The remix with fellow Missouri native Sexyy Red could be included as a bonus track, too. Speaking of Sexyy Red, she brought BlakeIANA on for her Sexyy Red 4 President tour, which just kicked off this past weekend. But back to the potentials, you also have the collabs with Moneybagg Yo and Skilla Baby. Additionally, we would assume that “Stl Finest” and “GAHDAMN” will make their way onto this mixtape. If there is one word to describe BlakeIANA’s style, it would be rugged. She has knack for getting real mean and unapologetic on the mic and that’s what she’s doing on “Problem”. Her confidence is apparent right from the beginning, and it’s deserved given the trajectory she’s on. Check out the track below.
