Beyonce Runs The World On Our New “R&B Season” Playlist Update: Stream

February is ramping 2024 up to be a big year for music, and our R&B Season playlist update is here to round up the best of the best. Leading the way is none other than Beyoncé, who just released two new country songs ahead of her Act II album dropping later this year on March 29. “16 CARRIAGES” is definitely the softer of the two cuts, with a slow tempo, rough stomps and kicks, echoing claps, and atmospheric string and organ arrangements. On the other hand, “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” has more of a traditional hoedown swing and gorgeously light and breezy guitars and banjos.

Next up on our R&B Season update is the new song from Jessie Reyez for the Bob Marley film, One Love. Her rendition of “Is This Love” is a bit of a sultrier and more woozy take on the original classic, with even more wah-heavy guitar licks and more elaborate vocal harmonies. Other tracks for this project have also given fresh spins on these untouchable anthems, and it’s been at least curious to see these new treatments. Reyez in particular does a great job of paying tribute to the reggae legend’s tone and delivery here.

HNHH R&B Season Playlist: Stream

Furthermore, we also wanted to shout out the new cut from Amaal Nuux on here, “Late To The Party.” This week, this is the song that adds a more contemporary production feel and hip-hop fusion on our R&B Season update. It’s still indebted mostly to soul, but the sharp snares, simple kick pattern, and occasional cowbell hits would envelop a lot of different fans of different genres. To top it all off and bring it all together is a delicate performance from the Somali-Canadian singer-songwriter.

Finally, we wanted to give a shoutout to Emotional Oranges’ new single, “Ready.” The snaps and watery production here roots this firmly in ’90s inspiration, and the modern sheen on the vocals and reverb effects give it a nice touch. Rihanna Working On New Album, ASAP Rocky Confirms

Rihanna is reportedly working on a new album, according to her long-time partner A$AP Rocky. “She’s working on it,” Rocky was recently heard telling a fan who pressed him about when Rihanna was going to drop new music. Reports and rumors that Rihanna is making a music return have been circulating for some time. Having played the Super Bowl last year, sources told multiple outlets that the superstar has been considering a world tour for 2024/25. Furthermore, she has also created two albums worth of music during her time away from the industry. If a tour does happen, it would be the next big blockbuster event after a 2023 that’s seen Beyoncé, Drake, and Taylor Swift travel the world on tours of their own.

However, other reporting has disputed the claims of a tour. The Mirror reported in October that reports that Rihanna had signed at $39 million deal with Live Nation were “bogus.” Furthermore, they reported that no tour dates had been set or agreed upon. Additionally, it’s likely that the outcome of Rocky’s legal issues will also play a factor in determining whether Rihanna makes her return.

Meanwhile, Rihanna was recently spotted vibing during Rocky’s recent concert in Paris. It was some small subtle grooving in the VIP section but Rihanna was certainly feeling the vibes. Rocky and Rihanna had hit up the French capital for Fashion Week. This is despite the looming threat of incarceration for Rocky on federal gun charges. The last time the couple publicly hit up Paris last year for the city’s fashion week. Rihanna rocked a modern camo sports bra and sweatpants. She also caused a stir after wearing a Cartier watch as a choker.

As mentioned, it was a fairly muted reaction from Rihanna. There have been examples of her being more effusive. A video posted to her official TikTok account shows a collection of adorable reactions from the musical superstar as she encounters the various samples of FENTY’s collab with Puma. “Oh my God, isn’t this the cutest shit ever?” she says to someone on her phone as she holds up a little baby sneaker. “Oh my God, stop,” she is heard saying as she stops the presentation to take a picture of the samples.

Yung Lean Continues His Streak Of Odd Collaborations On “SPIRIT OF THUNDER”

Yung Lean has never really been your typical rapper. The Swedish-born talent likes to mix elements of all sorts of genres together to create something truly unique. Of course, he is known best for his cloud rap roots. But, do not disqualify what he can do outside of that lane. He is someone who deserves all the respect for being a pioneer and a game changer. Today, Yung Lean is back to serve up a new single called “SPIRIT OF THUNDER.”

It does not just have him on it though. If you caught our last Yung Lean song post, “Violent Lullaby,” he worked with someone else. However, hearing him and BLP KOSHER on the same track was not something that people might have had on their bingo card. But, it went over well and fans were in agreement.

Listen To “SPIRIT OF THUNDER” By Yung Lean, RiFF RAFF, DVRST, & Bladee

We think it is safe to say hearing Lean and RiFF RAFF on the same song was on that card either. But again, like the KOSHER collab, this one sounds pretty good too. “SPIRIT OF THUNDER” sees RAFF sing instead of rap too. While it is not the best vocal work it does the job. Bladee, a frequent collaborator of Yung Lean, joins in. The beat is handled by DVRST, someone who thrives in the phonk subgenre of hip-hop that includes lo-fi sounds. It is very futuristic and soothing and we encourage you to at least give it a try.

Ciara Cosigns GloRilla’s New Song “Yeah, Glo”

Fans from all across the rap spectrum are showing love for GloRilla’s new song “Yeah, Glo!.” The thumping banger features some of Glo’s most intense flows yet and the kind of hard-hitting beat that she excels over. The track has only been out for a week but it’s already racked up well over a million streams on Spotify. Even more impressively, the music video has netted more than 3 million views on YouTube in that same time span.

Some other high-profile voices have also shown their love for the new banger. Videos made the rounds earlier this week of LeBron James and GloRilla linking up after a recent Lakers game hit the internet earlier this week. In the clips, James can be spotted singing and dancing along to “Yeah, Glo!” But he isn’t the only celebrity to endorse the new banger. Ciara shared a video to social media recently where she is absolutely feeling herself. She shows off her model walk while the song plays in the background. ScHoolboy Q Shares The Very Literal Artwork For His New Album “Blue Lips”

Fans of Top Dawg Entertainment are in for a major 2024. During a special 10th anniversary performance for Isaiah Rashad’s Cilvia Demo they handed out papers that made some bold claims. They promised that nearly every single artist on the label and even some new ones they haven revealed yet would be releasing new projects this year. Shortly after that news hit ScHoolboy Q revealed that he would be the first one out the gate.

He announced his new album Blue Lips. It’s his first studio album since 2019 when he dropped CrasH Talk, which was met mostly with shrugs from fans and critics. That hasn’t been the case with the new material leading up to Blue Lips. Earlier this month Q dropped a pair of singles that gave fans their first taste of the new album. The two songs are called “Blueslides” and “Back In Love” and show off two very different styles. That was also the case with the newest single “Yeern 101” which dropped earlier this week. The album is due out in early March and Q just officially revealed the artwork attached to the record. Check out the newly unveiled album cover below.

For an album called Blue Lips the artwork is impressively literal. It features a photograph of some very blue lips, presumably ScHoolboy Q’s himself. The album cover also features a hilariously placed parental advisory warning right in the center of the mouth and scribbled text of the album’s title in the bottom left corner.

In the replies fans reacted to the thought of having to look at that cover while listening to the album. “Honestly I kinda don’t like it but I don’t wanna be looking at some gap teeth while listening,” one of the top replies reads. Since then, fans have been waiting for Gunna to drop off his next full-length album. Firstly, you would think the artist would come through with a single. This would allow him to get people excited for any future album plans. Well, on Friday, he came through with a track called “Bittersweet.” This song was previewed in a recent freestyle posted to his Instagram page. With this new release, we get the vocals alongside a full instrumental, and it sounds like Gunna at his most focused and hungry.

Yeat Has Fans Singing His Praises After Dropping Futuristic New Album “2093”

Yeat is an artist who has proven himself to be one of the most interesting of the new school. Overall, he is known for his truly wild flows and unique beat selections. Furthermore, his whole aesthetic just comes across as demonic without even trying to be. He knows how to make some off the wall songs, and his abilities have been lauded by fans. Not to mention, he now has co-signs from the likes of Drake, Lil Wayne, and Future. It just goes to show that he is an artist who is about to blow up.

Well, on Friday, he dropped off his brand-new project, 2093. This album features Wayne and Future, while also boasting 22 new songs. Upon first listen, this could very well be Yeat’s best album yet. This project is filled with cyberpunk aesthetics, and you can’t help but marvel at the soundscapes that can be found here. He keeps pushing his sound forward, and it is admirable to hear that from such a young artist. As for the fans, they seem to be resonating with it quite a bit so far, and it’s no surprise given the quality of the album.

Quavo Plays A New Track Alongside Travis Scott At Super Bowl Party

Last year, Quavo released his new album Rocket Power. The project was a combination of his typical hard-hitting rap styles with some more direct tributes to his former Migos collaborator Takeoff who was shot at killed in 2022. Despite high anticipation among fans for his first new album since 2018, it performed just okay. The first week sales numbers were relatively modest compared to expectations. Only one of the songs on the album, “Turn Yo Clic Up” with Future, has surpassed 50 million streams since the album dropped.

Despite the moderate success of the record fans are still hyped for what Quavo has coming next. Part of that is because both he and Travis Scott have been teasing something that fans are excited about. The two released a collaborative album called Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho in late 2017. Fans have been asking for a sequel for years and in recent months both artists have been teasing the possibility. Over the weekend during the Super Bowl festivities they gave fans another reason to expect that something could be coming soon.

The YSL rapper himself responded teasing that he had something coming soon. A few weeks later he expanded on his ambitions. He claimed his next project would embrace the sound of afrobeats more while also focusing on including more “substance.”

Now he’s once again sharing a new hint at his new music with fans. In a new video shared to Instagram with no caption, Gunna flexes some refrains he’s been working on. The acapella performance sees him rapping to some friends on a sound stage with raw vocals that sounds impressively good. However, one female MC who has been doing this for longer than they have is BbyMutha. She hails from Chattanooga, Tennessee and always has a lot to say. Her production choices are also interesting and quite pleasing to the ears as well. Today, the 34-year-old is back with a new single to promote something big. BbyMutha’s “go!” is the second single from her forthcoming record, sleep paralysis. Stereogum and a host of other publications are really excited about what she has in store and so are we.

This soon-to-be eighth project in BbyMutha’s discography will follow up her 2023 LP, Muthaleficent 3. The first of the two tracks, “gun kontrol,” got the rollout for sleep paralysis going back in October 2023. However, if all of this information was not exciting enough for you, there is more! On top of the single and LP announcement, Bbymutha is hitting the road on April 17 to kick of her North American tour.
