Clipping’s Cover Of J-Kwon’s “Tipsy” Drops On Streaming

When you think of artists who might cover J-Kwon’s early 2000’s party-rap classic “Tipsy,” experimental rap trio Clipping aren’t among the first names to come to mind. Despite often dabbling in a much darker and noisier side of rap music, the group have often shown their appreciation for more conventional rap classics. The lead single from their most recent album “Say The Name” is built around an interpolation of the Geto Boys song “My Mind Is Playing Tricks On Me” for example.

They showed off that range when they decided to cover J-Kwon’s debut single “Tipsy.” The song originally hit number two on the Hot 100 back in 2004 and Clipping chose to cover it back in 2020. It was released as part of a compilation called Save Stereogum designed to generate money for the titular publication during the COVID Pandemic by getting artists to cover songs from the 2000’s. Now the song is available separately from the compilation for the very first time. It was released as the A-side of a new split single alongside Cooling Prongs’ noise song “Midnight.” Check out the unique cover in its entirety below.

Clipping’s Wild Take On “Tipsy”

Clipping fans haven’t heard from the band since 2020’s Visions Of Bodies Being Burned. But that doesn’t mean their frontman Daveed Diggs has been quiet. Last year, he flexed his acting talent when he took on a role in the live-action The Little Mermaid movie. He starred as Sebastian the crab in a diverse cast of talents with both acting and music experience.

The lead role in the film was played by another musician, Halle Bailey. During the lead up to the film Diggs had special praise specifically for Bailey as an actress and do-it-all creative. What do you think of Clipping’s louder and more distorted take on “Tipsy?” Let us know in the comment section below.

Normani’s Twitter Stan Account Put On Blast As Critics Speculate Singer Runs Profile

Of Fifth Harmony’s former members, Normani’s career has had some of the biggest moments following their split, despite her not yet sharing her debut album. We’ve heard her vocals shine alongside Tinashe and Offset on Calvin Harris’ “New To You” in recent years, not to mention her solo “Fair” single that set the tone for what’s next in this upcoming era of music. Besides that, Normani also collaborated with Cardi B on “Wild Side,” and KAYTRANADA for a must-hear remix of the same single in 2021. Fans have been eagerly waiting to hear what’s next from the multi-talent, and earlier this week, it looked like those announcements might finally be coming out. However, eagle-eyed social media sleuths were quick to speculate that the black-haired beauty might be running one of her own stan accounts on Twitter/X.

On Tuesday (February 20), R&B lovers noticed that Normani’s Instagram profile had been cleared out – this is a common tactic for many artists to usher in a new era. When @normanination reposted a screenshot of the blank account, writing, “WHAT IS HAPPENING” above it, some quickly spotted the “Edit profile” button, suggesting that whoever captured the image was already logged into the former girl group star’s profile. In the time since, however, we’ve been reminded that the same account confirmed in 2022 that it’s run by Normani’s team, not her.

What Will Normani’s New Era Be Like?

“Unpopular opinion, but Normani can trash her album. We don’t want it, Coco Jones ended her AND we have the Bailey sisters, Mariah the Scientist, Tyla, SZA, and Summer Walker,” one critic wrote earlier this week. “She can go back to running her stan account and being a background dancer 🤷🏽‍♀️. Her career is done,” they further speculated.

ScHoolboy Q At Peace On “Cooties” & “Love Birds” With Devin Malik & Lance Skiiiwalker

It hard to believe we only have 10 more days until ScHoolboy Q drops what looks to be an album of the year contender, BLUE LIPS. If you have not been paying attention, the rollout for this album has been nothing short of incredible. From the album artwork to the trailers, the merchandise, and of course, the music, he really has fans on the edge of their seats. Now, ScHoolboy Q is back with another two pack of “Cooties” and “Love Birds.”

These are now the fourth and fifth songs to be released ahead of the LP. Now, for three consecutive weeks, ScHoolBoy has impressed us with the material. “Blueslides” and “Back n Love” were different sonically but offered a lot of great writing and production. Then, last week, “Yeern 101” took us back to the Oxymoron days where he was dropping head-knocking trap bangers. His blistering flows complemented the up-tempo beat from Cardo to a tee.

Listen To “Cooties” & “Love Birds” Featuring Devin Malik & Lance Skiiiwalker By ScHoolboy Q

This leads us to “Cooties” and “Love Birds.” Both are more vibey and have more of an interlude-like feeling to them. The structures of both songs are mainly a verse and a short chorus on the first of the two. “Cooties” is exclusively handled by Q both rapping and producing wise. He seems at peace on this one. The Cali artist talks about how his kids are finding meaningful interests and how much he has succeeded after removing himself from the people who were bad for him. On “Love Birds,” Q takes a back seat to the singing talents of frequent collaborator Lance Skiiiwalker, while Devin Malik once again takes the reigns on the beat. This one is more about the challenges in relationships with women.

What are your thoughts on these brand-new singles, “Cooties” and “Love Birds,” by ScHoolboy Q, Devin Malik, and Lance Skiiiwalker? Are these the stronger releases compared to the rest of the BLUE LIPS teasers, why or why not? Is this going to be the best TDE album release of 2024? Do you think he should stop dropping songs with the album only about a week and half away? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding ScHoolboy Q and BLUE LIPS. Finally, stay with us for the most informative song posts throughout the week.

Offset Teases Cardi B’s New Music, Tells Her To “Drop The Album”

Offset teased new music from Cardi B on social media, on Monday, and remarked that her upcoming album “goes crazy.” While he muted the video of him listening to the project, he can be seen bobbing his head up and down in the studio while it plays. “Stop being scary and drop the album s**t goes crazy,” he captioned the clip with several fire emojis.

Cardi has been teasing her highly-anticipated sophomore album for years. It’ll be her first full-length effort since her critically acclaimed debut, Invasion of Privacy, back in 2018. That project notched her a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.

As for why the album is taking so long, Cardi explained on social media in 2022 that she was suffering from anxiety due to the separation its promotion will lead to her having from her kids. “I do have anxiety,” Cardi said at the time. “I’ve been having a lot of anxiety ’cause I know right after I drop my album I have to go on tour. And I have bad separation anxiety from my kids. When it comes to the music, I just be feeling like I don’t be liking anything. I feel like I got so many songs, I just don’t like nothing. Like nothing is good enough. I got so much f**king money saved up, I be like, ‘Yeah, whatever the f**k.”

Sleepy Hallow Samples 112 On Fun New Single, “Cupid’s Guidance”

Last week, Sleepy Hallow dropped off a new single just in time for Valentine’s Day, “Cupid’s Guidance.” The playful track sees the Brooklyn-born performer rhyme about finding “love” on tour, making money, and more. It samples 112’s track “Cupid” from the R&B group’s 1996 self-titled debut.

The release follows Sleepy Hallow’s album Boy Meets World, which he unveiled in September of last year. The project boasts various high-profile features from the likes of Fivio Foreign, Doechii, Marshmello, and more. While it’s only been a few months since his last album was released, fans are already eager to hear more.

Sleepy Hallow Gears Up For Tour

“Cupid’s Guidance” also arrives alongside a fun, school-themed music video. In the video, the rapper shoots hoops, writes love notes on a whiteboard, and flirts with a few of his “classmates.” The success of his new single isn’t the only thing Sleepy Hallow has to be excited about these days, however. Last month, the 24-year-old announced his tour in support of Boy Meets World, which is scheduled to begin in March. He’ll kick things off in Hartford, CT before moving on to cities like New York, Seattle, LA, Phoenix, and more until April.

Unfortunately, Sleepy Hallow’s also had to overcome some legal issues in the past couple of years. Last summer, he, Sheff G, and several others were arrested as part of an NYC gang indictment. Shortly after his arrest, Sleepy Hallow announced on social media that he was released on bail. What do you think of Sleepy Hallow’s new single? What about the accompanying music video? Will you be adding “Cupid’s Guidance” to your playlist? Do you hope he drops another full album sometime soon? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Ryan Destiny Unveils Sultry New Single “How Your Hands Feel”

Last week, Ryan Destiny unveiled her first original song in a year, “How Your Hands Feel.” The sultry new single sees the Detroit native reminisce about a past lover, finding reminders of them in her every attempt to move on. The track follows the release of her cover of Khamari’s 2023 A Brief Nirvana cut, “Doctor, My Eyes,” which she shared with fans earlier this month. It also follows her dreamy, February 2023 single, “Lie Like That.”

“I wanted to step into my sensual side,” Ryan Destiny says of her latest release. “The song is sexy but vulnerable as well. Missing someone and having to let them know the way they made you feel is not always easy but this song feels like the confident and forward version of that mood. A good double back anthem.”

She’s known for her roles in the hit shows Grown-ish and Star, and is set to appear in an upcoming biography about boxer Claressa “T-Rex” Shields, which is expected in August of this year.
