Playboi Carti Teases New Collaborations With Mustard And Lil Baby

Playboi Carti is really toying with fans at this point. The rapper and stopped and started the rollout for his new album so many times its hard to keep count. It seemed like I AM MUSIC was going to come out once he dropped the lead single, “ALL RED,” but fans have remained in the dark when it comes to a tracklist or a release date. The last week has seen Playboi Carti drop hints as to what the album could have in store, though. The rapper not only dropped a song snippet, but screenshots of text conversations between him and other superstar artists.

Playboi Carti posted the text screenshots to his social media on December 15. They saw him reach out to the likes of Lil Baby and Mustard for collaborations. The first screenshot appears to be an exchange with Lil Baby’s manager, Cash XO. The manager texted Playboi Carti to confirm new music between the stars. “Wham,” he wrote. “Carti lock each other in family!” Carti texted back: “Yes sir.” These two linking up has worked wonders in the past, as evidenced by the track “Too Easy.” They’ve yet to come together for a hit record, though, which makes the prospect of them back together especially exciting.

Playboi Carti Previously Claimed No Features On His Album

Playboi Carti and Mustard is an extremely unexpected connection. The two artists could not be further apart in terms of style and musical approach. Carti is all pockets and rage rap outbursts. Mustard, on the other hand, is smooth, G-Funk influenced gangsta rap. Nevertheless, Mustard sees the vision, and made a point of reaching out to the “ALL RED” rapper. “Man let’s cook twin,” he messaged Carti via Instagram. Playboi Carti didn’t show his response, but he did post a screenshot of the message on his IG Stories.

Mustard Leaks Boi-1da’s DMs Where He Calls West Coast Rap “Ass”

Mustard and Boi-1da both know what it takes to make great music, especially that represents the regions they are from. It’s always going to be up for debate on which area produces the better material. However, these two are obviously going to be a little bias toward the sounds they are familiar with. Even though they disagree, which is clear by these leaked DMs courtesy of Mustard, there’s got to be a mutual respect… right? Well, there’s definitely not anymore, that’s for sure. Boi-1da made that apparent thanks to some recent messages he sent to the “tv off” beat maker via Messenger.

What starts of the beef is a blurred-out video or photo with the following message attached: “West Coast rap is ass.” Mustard replied bluntly, “hater,” followed by “😂🫵🏿” There appears to be no texts before this that would’ve provoked Boi-1da to just say this. That is unless Mustard decided to hide what would be some telling information. Regardless, he’s very stunned by the “random” verbal attack” on his respective region of hip-hop. “@boi1da tell me this ain’t real crodie,” Mustard captioned the IG Story.

But wait, there’s more. Boi-1da then proceeded to double down on his take after his contemporary tried to sway his opinion. “Ass,” he said again. He then added, “Nobody outside LA wanna hear that s***.” All Mustard could do in that moment was hit back with a laughing emoji. “@boi1da I thought you was a real one i ain’t kno you felt this way,” he captioned this exchange in another IG Story post.

Finally, Mustard shared one more series of messages. These ones are from May, immediately following the release of “Not Like Us.” It’s pretty crushing evidence against Boi-1da, as he was initially congratulating Mustard for the beat on the crushing Drake diss record. “Good s***… Beat hard AF.” He then proceeded to taunt Boi-1da by captioning these DMs, “You said you liked not like us😂 welp there’s enough yellow tape to go around🤷🏿‍♂️” He concluded with one more IG Story, writing, “and that’s the end of my ted talk. Lame a** n****.” Mustard buried him pretty good, so, let’s see how his newest enemy responds.

Drake Trolls Kendrick Lamar’s “Mustard!” Scream In Live Stream Chat

Drake is online. If there’s one thing his supporters and haters can agree upon, it’s that he spends a lot of time on social media. He’s constantly posting cryptic photos on Instagram, or dropping by live streams to promote his brand. Drake has likely given Kendrick Lamar’s GNX album a listen, but even if he hasn’t, he has seen the “Mustard!” memes. The scream, which appears on the smash single “tv off,” is a reference to the producer who made the beat and the beat for the Drake diss “Not Like Us.” Drake decided to fire back at both artists as a result.

Los Pollos TV went on stream to rant about the new Lamar album. He’s not a fan of GNX, and compared it unfavorably to Drizzy’s 2021 album, Certified Lover Boy. He claimed that going from Drake’s album to the new K. Dot release did not do the latter any favors. Drake apparently agreed. He dropped a comment trolling Lamar and Mustard’s latest collab. He also, seemingly, poked fun at Mustard’s size. “We need a donut emoji in the chat,” he wrote. “Custarrerddddd!.” Los Pollos TV pinned the comment for the rest of his stream.

Drake Rebranded The Scream As “Custard!”

Los Pollos TV has been a vocal Drake supporter for years. He was on the 6 God’s side throughout the Kendrick Lamar feud. He even got a chance to FaceTime with the rapper during a live stream at the end of November. Los Pollos TV has also supported Drake in the midst of the lawsuit the rapper plans to file against his record label, UMG. The YouTuber went as far as to claim that the label took down his harsh review of GNX. “I reacted to Kendrick’s new album, which hundreds of people have also and they’re up right now on YouTube,” he claimed. “UMG/Kendrick team manually removed my video because I didn’t like the album…”

There’s certainly no love lost between Drake and Mustard, either. The latter told the Los Angeles Times that he has no desire to work with the 6 God after the Kendrick Lamar feud. “I don’t think I want to make a song with that dude,” Mustard asserted. “[He’s] a strange guy.” This, of course, is ignoring the fact that he already has two hit singles with Drake, but we digress. The 6 God’s mean-spirited comment makes a lot of sense given the bitterness on both ends of the feud.

Mustard Celebrates Top 5 Records: ‘I’m Just Getting Started’

Mustard Expecting Baby with New Girlfriend Brittany Stroud

Mustard has all of Hip-Hop screaming his name thanks to Kendrick Lamar and “TV Off.” The song has skyrocketed up the charts, debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Hitting Instagram stories, he wrote: “I’m just getting started #2 and #5!”

Kendrick Lamar cleaned up Billboard this week. After taking the top spot of the Billboard 200 with GNX, his encore takes every spot in the Top 5 of the Hot 100. Overall, Kendrick has seven top ten spots in the Hot 100.

The country’s No. 1 song is “Squabble Up,” followed by “TV Off,” “Luther,” “Wacced Out Murals,” and “Hey Now,” which rounds out the top five.

Kendrick Lamar dropped off the “squabble up” video last Monday, which featured a nod to Ice-T’s second album, Power. In case you need a Hip-Hop history lesson, the cover had a woman in a while thong swimsuit and red heels holding a shotgun, which was also recreated in the video.

Seeing the moment, Ice-T showed love, writing “Respect!” on X. You can see the connection and the video below.

Mustard Admits To Yelling Own Name After Kendrick Lamar “TV Off” Meme

Mustard has worked with Kendrick Lamar twice, and both times have yielded major results. The first time, Mustard and Lamar produced the number one single “Not Like Us.” The second time, they made “TV Off,” a standout cut from Lamar’s new album. Lamar’s “Mustard!” ad-lib has taken the internet by storm, and everybody is yelling the producer’s name at the top of their lungs. Lizzo did it during Kai Cenat’s live stream, and now Mustard himself is getting in on the fun.

The L.A. producer confirmed that he has fallen under the spell of Lamar’s song on November 27. He hopped on Twitter and claimed that he caught himself shouting out the “Mustard!” ad-lib despite the fact that he’s the producer in question. “I just walked down the street,” he wrote. “And yelled my own name. I forgot it was me.” The comment section was flooded with laughing emojis, as many knew how catchy and addictive the “TV Off” chant has been to repeat since its release. It’s part of what has made the song so popular. It’ll be exciting to see how the memes translate to Billboard chart success.

Mustard Claimed He May Have A New Producer Tag

Mustard told Billboard that he was honored to be included on Kendrick Lamar’s new album, let alone get a shout out from the rapper. “That sh*t was elite. So fire,” Mustard explained to the outlet. “Like, is that a new tag? I can’t wait to perform that song and just hear people saying that, ’cause everybody’s going to say that like crazy.” The producer also praised Lamar for his ability to synthesize different styles and rap sounds into a cohesive whole. Mustard may have gotten the shout out, but Sounwave, Sean Momberger and Kamasi Washington are also credited on “TV Off.”

“I was losing it,” Mustard said when he first heard the song. “I mean, I already knew I do me with the beats, you know? But Kendrick is the best rapper, bro. Like, of all time. I think he’s one of the best.” Mustard is not alone in his praise. The hip hop community has rallied around Kendrick Lamar since GNX dropped. Nas, Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg are just some of the genre legends who have gone on to social media to praise the rapper’s latest effort.

The Kendrick Lamar ‘Mustard’ Meme Is Taking Over The Internet

Kendrick Lamar 2024

On Friday, Kendrick Lamar dropped a surprise (and Taylor Swift-free) new album, GNX. By Saturday, a meme was born. On “TV Off,” featuring Lefty Gunplay, Lamar yells “MUSTARD” — or as it’s transcribed by someone on Genius, “MUSTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD.” Is it a reference to his favorite condiment? Possibly, but it’s also a nod to DJ Mustard, a rapper and producer who worked on GNX, as well as Lamar’s No. 1 hit “Not Like Us.”

Lamar’s “Mustard” shout out is all over the internet, including brands like McDonald’s, the Minions, and Shrek. There are Simpsons references, Peanuts-style drawings, and TikTok edits. A pastor yelled “Mustard” during a church service, as seen here, and even Lizzo got involved.

Mustard seems to be enjoying all the attention.

“I’ve been literally trying to get a song with him for years,” the producer told Billboard about Lamar. “Before I even made that beat [for “Not Like Us”], I got to a point where I was like, ‘I’m gonna send five beats a day.’ I maybe sent him five beats a day for maybe three months. I’m still doing it right now just in case he wants to record something. I sent him that beat and then I think that day I would make it a point just to go to the studio to make a couple of beats to send to him.”

He added, “I don’t think I even understood how big it was until it went No. 1. I was like, ‘This is the biggest song I ever had in my life.’ I just wanted a song with Kendrick.”

Kendrick Lamar & Mustard Have Another Hit With The Thought-Provoking “Tv Off”

Kendrick Lamar and Mustard are cooking with fish grease once again, this time on “tv off.” This collaboration follows the incredible and historic success of “Not Like Us,” the dagger diss record from the tense beef with Drake. It finds a home on K. Dot’s brand-new surprise album GNX which hit streaming out of the blue on Friday, November 22. This is a great way to capitalize on the hype of the aforementioned West Coast anthem, but also to build upon these two’s chemistry going forward.

“tv off” might seem very similar to “Not Like Us” on the surface, especially with the triumphant horn sections and contagious energy. However, the lyrical content is a great contrast and secretly plays into the track’s theme of deceit, superficiality, and more. Lamar mentioned on “The Day The Party Died” how he wanted to reset the culture that we are experiencing in rap right now. This GNX cut almost feels like a pseudo-sequel in some ways, as he mentions how social media ruins people’s perceptions, society’s questionable decisions and how they impact the world, and more. It might a stretch on our part, but this is what Kendrick’s music allows for.

Mustard Laughs At McDonald’s Post Over New K.Dot Shout Out

Mustard laughs out loud over McDonald’s involvement in his name trending across social media after Kendrick Lamar’s catchy shout-out on GNX. The fast-food giant would poke fun at the producer on Friday (Nov. 22) with a tweet that promoted an altered sauce packet titled, “Honey MUSTARRRRRRRRRDDDDD.” This is about Kendrick beginning the GNX cut “tv off,” produced by Mustard, by yelling the producer’s name. “MUSSSSTTTAARRRRRDDDDD,” yells Kendrick Lamar as the beat drops saying “Mustard on the beat, ho.”

Mustard couldn’t believe McDonald’s tweet and responded with “OMG” as he retweeted it. The producer has been resharing various fan-made posts since the song was released with the album. With clever promotion ads, fast-food brands have been heavily involved in hip-hop in 2024. During the beef between Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole, many brands took the opportunity to promote their products with posts inspired by catchphrases. Mustard joined in the beef with his involvement in Kendrick’s “Not Like Us.”

McDonald’s Got New Sauce Called “Honey MUSTAAAARRRRRD”

Social media has coined Kendrick’s shout-out as the producer’s new production tag. YG created the producer’s original production tag. On GNX, Mustard joins Los Angeles’ biggest and emerging stars with features by Roddy Ricch, AzChike, Lefty Gunplay, Terrence Martin, and Peysoh. According to Chart Data, Dijon and Kendrick’s latest collaboration is among the 11 songs from the album occupying the top 10 on the U.S. Apple Music chart.

Kendrick’s new album has many disses toward Drake. The new release follows Mustard trolling the 6 God at last week’s Camp Flog Gnaw Festival in Los Angeles. The DJ would fake the crowd with the start of Drake’s “Crew Love” before immediately transitioning to “Like That,” the track that initially began the beef between Kendrick Lamar and Drake. Before the transition, Mustard would yell out “Sike” as the beat dropped for “Like That.” Mustard and Drake’s beef continued after “Not Like Us,” with Drizzy trolling Mustard by following the producer’s ex-wife on social media.

Mustard Reacts To Kendrick Lamar Shout Out On New Album “GNX”

DJ Mustard notched his first number one single with Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.” The song will go down as one of the greatest diss records of all time, and a defining 2024 hit. Mustard appeared at Dot’s subsequent Pop Out show, and made a cameo in the “Not Like Us” music video. He’s about as plugged in to the Kendrick Lamar inner circle as one can imagine. And yet, the producer was shocked when Dot’s new album GNX dropped on November 22. He spoke with Billboard about the surprise release, and he admitted that he found out the same time the fans did.

“It was a surprise for me, just like it was a surprise for everybody else,” Mustard told the outlet. “I had been thinking maybe it’s going to come at the top of the year, maybe it’s going to come around the Super Bowl or whatever.” The producer claimed he was at the gym when he saw the snippet that Lamar posted shortly before the album’s release. The snippet led him to believe, as many did, that the album would be coming “soon.” Not less than an hour later. “I’m thinking Thanksgiving,” he recalled. “When everybody’s in the house together. 10 minutes later, the album is out.”

Mustard Dubbed Kendrick Lamar The “GOAT”

Mustard may not have been clued into Kendrick Lamar’s plans, but he does play a vital role in the album. He co-produces the song “TV Off,” which was instantly singled out as a highlight on GNX. Mustard knew the instrumental would appear on the album, but once again, he was taken aback by the shout out that K. Dot gave him on the song. He didn’t hear the finished version of the song until the album dropped. “What did I think?,” he asked. “I was losing it. I already knew I do me with the beats.” Mustard worked alongside a stellar ensemble of talent to make the “TV Off” beat. Other superstar producers that were listed on the song include Jack Antonoff, Sounwave, Kamasi Washington and Sean Momberger.

Mustard told Billboard that he views “TV Off” as a natural successor to “Not Like Us.” Both songs have a similar West Coast flair, and the producer actually made the parts of the “TV Off” beat at different times before presenting it to Kendrick Lamar. Obviously, the Compton rapper took to it. He praised Lamar for his creative spirit, calling him the “best rapper of all time.” He also remarked that Lamar may have given him a new producer tag to run with on future songs.

Mustard Trolled Drake By Almost Playing His Music, But Making An Appropriate Transition Instead, At Camp Flog Gnaw

Mustard had some fun with the whole Drake/Kendrick Lamar situation at Camp Flog Gnaw this weekend.

During his set (as seen in this video clip), Mustard, who is firmly on Lamar’s side, started playing “Crew Love,” but before the track reached Drake’s verse, Mustard gave a “sike!” before transitioning to Future, Metro Boomin, and Lamar’s “Like That.”

In an interview from earlier this year, Mustard said, “I don’t think I want to make a song with that dude. He’s a strange guy. [Drake fans] don’t go to sleep — all they do is tweet, tweet, tweet, tweet. That’s where ‘the Nation of drizzlam’ came from. I said it in a joking manner, but I guess on Twitter it looked like I was mad [laughs]. Drake should use that phrase. I won’t charge him for it.”

He also said of Lamar at the time, “He’s just a genius. He does the unthinkable every time. And on a human level — just as a normal person — I like his style. […] His whole mystique gives me the same vibes as Prince. Even now [after the success of ‘Not Like Us’], the guy has not posted anything. I told him, ‘I don’t know how you do that sh*t. Me, I’d be like, ‘Yeah, I’m No. 1!””
