Kendrick Lamar Showed Off His Hometown Pride During His Surprise Compton College Commencement Speech

Kendrick Lamar’s love for Compton, California is long documented. His hometown is often a central theme in songs, music influences, and creative collaborators. But Kendrick’s show of support for his stomping grounds extend far beyond his professional endeavors.

Yesterday (June 7), Kendrick dropped into Compton College’s 2024 commencement ceremony. In a surprising turn of events for graduates, the institution announced the “Not Like Us” emcee would deliver its official commencement speech.

I know what it takes. You had a lot of hardship, not only in your house, in your communities, but most importantly, in yourself, and that’s the toughest thing to overcome. We’re still growing day by day, brick by brick, making sure we develop, not only in physical form but in the spiritual as well. And I still believe in everything we’re doing, brick by brick, it’s time that we change the narratives. Some people tell us this generation don’t have what it takes. Gen Z. We talk about it all day. They try to pull us down and say we don’t know what we’re doing. They wrong though. Because not only you all have what it takes, you have something bigger. You have the heart and the courage to be independent thinkers. There’s nothing more valuable than that.

In the photos, the artists are seen getting pretty up close and personal, leaving fans suspicious. While this is far from the first time they’ve linked up, some speculate that things between them could be heating up, and are totally here for it. “Sexy and the Beast,” he captioned the carousel.

Sexyy Red was quick to jump into his comments section with a flirty remark, only fueling the rumors. “Bae I loveeeee youuuuuuuu you my everythingggggggg ,” she wrote. Fans are now bombarding the rappers with their reactions to the suggestive post, with most agreeing that they’d make a good pair.

While this may be true, Sexyy Red later took to her own profile to clear things up. Unfortunately, however, her clarification seems to have only sparked more confusion. “Proof dat dis just my brudda dis how we play… B coo yal @sexyy_doe4500,” she captioned an even more suspicious clip. In it, they’re seen hugging each other, and fans can agree that it looks far from sibling-like. The rappers are no strangers to flirting with each other online, but this seems to have gone even further than usual.

It’s unclear exactly why Chief Keef and Sexyy Red are messing with their followers like this, however, it could be an attempt to promote their upcoming music video. But others are much more sinister in nature, such as an alleged sex tape of hers that surfaced online but is reported to be A.I-.generated, according to social media discussion. Despite the content at hand and blazingly unverified Internet discussion, the Houston femcee took to Twitter on Saturday (June 8) to blast these supposed attempts to ruin her image.

“It’s really sick how yall go out of the way to hurt me when you see me winning,” Megan Thee Stallion wrote to a mystery opp on the social media platform. “Yall going too far, Fake a** s**t. Just know today was your last day playing with me and I mean it.” Moreover, she just joined Latto and Flo Milli for the remix of “Sunday Service,” so at least she has some praise and earned commotion to counter this other side of online conversation.

Elsewhere, though, Megan Thee Stallion will likely address at least some of this reception, other struggles, and all her highs and lows on her upcoming album, Megan. It’s easily one of the summer’s most anticipated hip-hop releases, and will be her first solo full-length effort since 2022’s Traumanize. A lot happened in Tina Snow’s life since then, and we’re sure that it will make for a pretty engaging and well-rounded album experience. All we can hope for is that her efforts ring louder than those of her overzealous, disrespectful, or downright toxic detractors.

In fact, Megan Thee Stallion has a big rollout to contend with, and one that’s boosting morale amid some other canceled or postponed shows. It’s a lot of momentum and hype, and one that has a big risk of falling apart if the album doesn’t deliver. But our skepticism is more directed public opinion and discourse, not so much Meg’s talents or potential. Hopefully she claps back at folks who dislike her for all the wrong reasons through some amazing art.

Diddy Has Been Stripped Of His Honorary Howard University Degree Amid Ongoing Abuse And Sexual Assault Allegations

Another organization has decided to publicly cut ties with Diddy. Yesterday (June 7), Howard University has officially denounced its former student.

By way of The Dig (the school’s campus news hub), the university announced its decision to strip Diddy of his honorary degree while expressing disgust over his physical assault on Cassie (seen in the video footage obtained by CNN).

Although Diddy never formally graduated from the prestigious historically Black institution, in 2014 he was bestowed with the honorary degree for his career’s work and philanthropic efforts at the university, which included a scholarship fund.

The Howard University Board of Trustees voted unanimously today to accept the return by Mr. Sean Combs of the honorary degree conferred upon him in 2014. This acceptance revokes all honors and privileges associated with the degree. Accordingly, the Board has directed that his name be removed from all documents listing honorary degree recipients of Howard University.

Mr. Combs’ behavior as captured in a recently released video is so fundamentally incompatible with Howard University’s core values and beliefs that he is deemed no longer worthy to hold the institution’s highest honor.

The University is unwavering in its opposition to all acts of interpersonal violence.

The Board has also directed the University administration to immediately take the following actions: terminate a 2016 gift agreement with Mr. Combs, disband the scholarship program in his name, return his $1 million contribution, and terminate a 2023 pledge agreement with the Sean Combs Foundation.

No payments toward the $1 million pledge have been due or made by the Sean Combs Foundation as of this date, therefore no funds are due to be returned under the 2023 pledge agreement.

Diddy hasn’t issued a statement regarding the board’s decision. But this wasn’t the only commemorative honor up for review.

Last month, the Hollywood Walk Of Fame committee revealed that Diddy’s star would not be removed due to the body’s “lack of control” in the process. On the other hand, New York City’s Eric Adams revealed that officials are considering revoking Diddy’s Key To The City.

The disturbing security footage of Diddy assaulting Cassie at a hotel in 2016 that went viral last month continues to garner reactions online. In the footage, the Bad Boy Records founder is seen pulling the songstress to the ground, kicking her twice, then seemingly throwing a glass vase at her. For obvious reasons, many have condemned Diddy after seeing the footage. Social media users have also been looking back on his past relationships to determine if he’s guilty of abusing other former partners. His relationship with Kim Porter, who passed away from pneumonia in 2018 after having children with Diddy, has been a particularly hot topic.

As Diddy continues to face scrutiny, Porter’s father Jake decided to weigh in on the footage of Cassie’s assault. In an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this week, he revealed that he was horrified upon seeing it. “You can say I was disgusted with the video, and I wouldn’t treat my enemy like that,” he explained. “It was despicable… I couldn’t believe it. I was in Vietnam, and I wouldn’t do that to my enemy.”

Allegedly, the two of them exchanged some harsh words, with Eady even allegedly threatening Moore with a gun. “I have a gun for b****es like you,” she allegedly told her co-star.

Sources later spoke with The Neighborhood Talk about the alleged exchange, claiming to have more details of what prompted it. They accused Moore of showing explicit photos of Eady to others at the salon. They also said Eady wasn’t present at the time, suggesting that it was revealed to her by someone else who allegedly witnessed it.

The MLB Players Association Accuses Bad Bunny’s Sports Agency Of ‘Egregious And Systemic Violations’ In Legal Filing

Rebellious spirits are beloved in music. But Bad Bunny is learning that doesn’t quite work in sports. Since April, the “Baticano” rapper’s sports agency, Rimas Sports, has been engulfed in a heated legal battle with the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA).

According to Billboard, on June 5, things were dialed up a notch. In a new filing, the MLBPA outlined several alleged “egregious and systemic violations” to combat Rimas Sports’ discrimination and being targeted by a “pre-determined investigation” claim.

The motion stated that its decision to ban the agency was due to its supposed findings that Rimas gave out improper gifts to players such as VIP concert tickets, granted suite access to prospects at outside sporting events, and extended interest-free loan offers.

“The regulations strictly forbid such inducements,” wrote the union’s lawyers. “Player agents must compete for clients based on the quality of their representation, not the quality of their gifts.”

The representative went on to outline how if the agency’s alleged actions were left unpunished, it could cause damage across the league. “Immunizing Rimas from the consequences of its own bad conduct will harm players and other player agents by encouraging player-player agent relationships borne out of perquisites, not performance,” the rep wrote. “What Rimas seeks is a get out of jail free card for itself. The public has no interest in such an outcome. This kind of conduct became culture at Rimas.”

The agency has not yet responded to MLBPA’s latest motion. However, last month, attorneys for Rimas did issue a statement regarding the union’s initial ruling.

“The ‘good ole boy’ order of baseball sports agency … was being put at risk, as these Puerto Rican ‘outsiders’ were disrupting baseball sports agency order too much, too fast,” wrote Rimas attorneys. “This was something that the MLBPA and Rimas Sports’ competitors would not allow.”

Rimas’ went on to refer to the “extraordinary and unprecedented” measures from the MLBPA as a “death penalty” on its operations. Rimas claimed the ruling killed its deal with then prospect client Ronald Acuña Jr. Those actions being, as outlined by Billboard as, decertification of one of its agent, preventing co-owner and Bad Bunny’s longtime manage Noah Assad from applying for certification, and blocking already certified sports agents from coming aboard the team.

While the MLBPA appears to be stern in its decision, it doesn’t appear this legal fight is over.

It’s no secret that Boosie Badazz has a lot of cash, and evidently, that makes him a thief’s ideal victim. Recently, the rapper took to social media to reveal that his Sprinter van was broken into by individuals looking to steal some of his riches. He shared a clip of the aftermath, which included a scattering of broken glass all over the street from the seemingly smashed van windows. Luckily, Boosie had kept his cash on him, meaning that they didn’t get away with too much.

While the thieves may not have gotten access to Boosie’s stacks, they certainly weren’t willing to leave empty-handed. During their visit, they stole his insulin, some fake jewelry, a few clothing items, and the charger for his ankle monitor. It’s unclear exactly what they plan to do with these items, but Boosie needs insulin for his diabetes and could get in serious trouble with authorities if his ankle monitor dies. Either way, he appears grateful that they weren’t able to steal anything else.

Of course, it’s unclear whether they just ran into each other or all went out together, so some gossip will likely stir. After all, the Saweetie part of the former Migo’s Chris Brown drama showed that people seem pretty invested in his romantic life.

But in the case of Ice Spice, relationship rumors can’t really compare to the excitement around the announcement of her debut studio album, Y2K. There’s already a lot of conversation around whether or not she will continue her trademark style or bring something new to the table, as well as potential guests and sounds. The Bronx femcee is building a lot of momentum off of her breakout 2023, and while there’s a lot of competition, she seems comfortable in that space. What’s dominance without a challenge?

As for Quavo, he recently linked up with Ian and teased a new collaboration together, which should be a fun time for younger hip-hop listeners who mess with the Valedictorian. We don’t really know the nature of this meeting with Ice Spice, but we don’t have to and there are much better things going on with both that we should pay more attention to. The Georgia MC already dropped a solo album last year and, in addition to his Breezy beef, has some more singles in this year’s discog. With that in mind, we’ll see whether the gossip train is inevitable here.

Meanwhile, Ice Spice recently defended the clowned album cover for Y2K and its creator David LaChapelle on Twitter. “David LaChapelle is #Y2K! soooo sweet + legendary he didn’t even charge me cus he f**ks wit a real b***h,” she wrote in the caption of a photo of the two. “Thank U for all the incredible art you’ve put out through the years this cover means everything to me & yes Y2K was placed on the trash can on purpose can u guess why?”
