Drake’s “Scary Hours” Mixtapes, Ranked

Last Friday, Drake reissued his latest album, For All the Dogs, with a “Scary Hours Edition,” featuring six new songs as a separate disc. Produced by the likes of Conductor Williams, The Alchemist, Ovrkast, and Lil Yachty, Drake’s latest batch of tracks comes just over a month after his 23-track album. Informally titled Scary Hours 3, the new project has been primarily well-received compared to the mixed reception of For All the Dogs.

Drake also recently shared the instrumentals to his latest rap-heavy deluxe edition. Scary Hours 3 is noticeably longer than its predecessors, almost acting as a standalone work compared to the shorter EPs that helped promote his studio albums. With Drake’s latest release still fresh and in rotation, we rank the Scary Hours EPs from least to greatest. Take a look at the list below.

3. Scary Hours (2018)

The first Scary Hours EP arrived in January of 2018. The two-song project notably included “God’s Plan,” which eventually became one of Drake’s biggest singles yet. Also on the first Scary Hours was “Diplomatic Immunity,” a trap song that name-checked Jennifer Lopez in its lyrics and referenced Dipset with its title. With “God’s Plan” eventually becoming the lead single from Scorpion later that year, Scary Hours ultimately came and went as an insignificant moment in the scope of Drake’s discography. As the shortest and least exciting installment in the series, it ranks at the bottom of the Scary Hours EP’s.

2. Scary Hours 2 (2021)

Released ahead of Certified Lover Boy, Scary Hours 2 is a strong EP that compels listeners throughout its three songs. While only 12 minutes in length, the project was varied in production and style. Drake certainly excited fans as he opened Scary Hours 2 with the energetic “What’s Next.” The song “Wants and Needs” saw Drake confidently rap over a menacing beat. Lil Baby contributed an admirable verse to the song, impressively flowing after Drake’s catchy and melodic chorus. Drake ended the EP with “Lemon Pepper Freestyle,” a 6-minute track where he and Rick Ross spit bars over a soulful beat, displaying their long-lasting chemistry. Overall, Scary Hours 2 fulfilled its task of satisfying fans before the eventual release of Certified Lover Boy, leaving them hoping for more.

1. For All The Dogs, Scary Hours Edition (2023)

Scary Hours 3 is the only installment in the series released almost immediately after a major Drake studio album. Acting as both a deluxe and a standalone project, it contains some of Drake’s best rapping in recent memory, surpassing the standard edition of For All the Dogs. The rap-driven project sees Drake responding to his toughest critics, sending shots at Joe Budden and Pusha T, as well as people missing the “old Drake.”

Chorus-free songs like “Red Button” and “Stories About My Brother” feature some of Drake’s sharpest bars, while “The Shoe Fits” points out the faults of those who scrutinize him online. He and J. Cole prove to be an even match as they go back and forth on “Evil Ways” before shrugging off his exes on “You Broke My Heart.”

Easily the best-produced project out of the series, Scary Hours 3 is Drake at his most vengeful. He delivers the lyricism and charisma that For All the Dogs somewhat lacked, silencing his biggest critics. A concise listen, it plays like a complete body of work.

Tink Clears Up Hitmaka Relationship, Speaks On Their Current Status

Tink and Hitmaka have a pretty bizarre relationship right now, one defined by high highs and low lows. For those unaware, they were in some drama earlier this year over an alleged physical altercation, with her accusing him of the attack and him denying that anything serious happened. Still, by the end of it in October, the frequent collaborators were not on very good terms. However, there was recent reason to believe that they made up, but it seems like they didn’t go all the way into a romantic partnership. Moreover, the Illinois rapper recently clarified their status on Instagram Live.

“He’ll take it to whatever lane,” Tink’s remarks began, with Hitmaka right next to her at what seems like a restaurant. What caused people to connect them romantically was a series of explicit messages. “We are business partners, and that’s the difference. I don’t owe you a dime. It’s just so much toxicity, that’s why I had to get on Live and bring it down. You have your ways, yeah, you got toxic ways. But at this point, I just want the music to resonate. That’s all I really care about.

Tink Addresses Relationship With Hitmaka: Watch

“You know, business is business, y’all, I have a business relationship with Hitmaka,” Tink continued. “Moving forward, you know, what’s said in the music is music, it’s art. I have a lot of songs about relationships, you know? That’s what I do. Moving forward, we need to have peace at the end of the day. You not a pawn, but you a part of my life. If I have to speak on something, it gotta go there. I just want some peace, y’all. When the record come out, it’s coming real amazing. At the end of the day, we business partners, I have to meet with him and work amongst him. So y’all support me, and let’s not take each other down. That’s it! I don’t want no kiss, bro, take that s**t off your page.”

Of course, the close nature of this IG Live session still raises some questions for gossipers. Nevertheless, it’s much better to see them healed than at odds, especially in the service of their art. Let’s just hope that this stays amicable moving forward. On that note, come back to HNHH for the latest news and updates on Tink and Hitmaka.

Swizz Beatz Thinks He Has Enough Unreleased DMX Material For A Posthumous Album

Very few deaths have rocked the hip-hop world in recent memory like DMX. The legendary rapper passed away in April of 2021 and while many of the circumstances surrounding his death at the time were unclear, that didn’t stop many in the rap community from showing him love. Shortly after his death, an album he was working on at the time of his passing was finished. The album is called Exodus and sports numerous high-profile features. Jay-Z, Nas, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Swizz Beatz and Usher are just a few of the artists who contributed to the album.

Swizz Beatz worked on Exodus quite a bit and he recently mused on the idea of creating another posthumous DMX effort. When asked in an interview by HipHopDX if he had enough material for another album he responded “for sure.” But the question of whether or not he will actually make one is still up for debate. “Will I make another X album? I don’t know. It has to feel good,” he answered. Check out his responses and the entire interview.

That sparked all kinds of controversy online as fans debated DMX’s legacy and where he stands all-time among the best rappers ever.

It also served as part of a greater debate on AI music that has been raging all year. Do you think Swizz Beatz should make a second posthumous DMX album? Let us know in the comment section below.

SZA Recalls Her First Job At A Sneaker Store

Everybody has to start somewhere, and those origins prove crucial to a superstar artist’s skills, talents, and success. Moreover, SZA spoke to The Wall Street Journal about her first job, something that actually taught her some valuable lessons when it came to her eventual artistic evolution. The Grammy-nominated singer started her labor journey at a sneaker store, which was also her first experience with commission and having to engage socially with people on the daily. In addition, she also reflected on what she thinks her co-workers would describe her as and what were some of her key memories. Just goes to show that you can make it out of anywhere, folks, so stay on your grind.

“My very first job was working at this place called Magic Fit Sneakers,” SZA recalled during the interview. “I guess that’s where I learned how to talk to people. It was like my first job with commission ever, but that was also my first job. I always had the highest sales at any commission job.” “Annoying probably,” the “Rich Baby Daddy” hitmaker said of what her co-workers would think of her. “Like, really talkative, but like, I could sell anything.”

SZA Tells The Story Of Her First Job At A Sneaker Shop: Watch

“The first time that I was able to sell something that was expensive, [it was] a Steep Tech and a pair of Tims (Timberlands),” SZA continued. “I upselled on a pair of sneakers, [and] I had to like just approach it in a different way. The other guys were so good at fast talking. Like, I just be myself and be like, ‘Well, I think it looks really nice’ or be really corny or I don’t know.” Given how much her albums have sold, it’s no wonder she picked this up from early on.

Meanwhile, even fake teasers for her Lana deluxe project have fans in a frenzy. There’s a lot of demand right now for the 34-year-old to continue her hot streak and keep dropping great music. With this and much more as context, we’re sure she’ll supply. For more news and the latest updates on SZA, stay up to date on HNHH.

Nicki Minaj Responds To Criticism Ahead Of “Pink Friday 2”

Nicki Minaj is gearing up to drop her eagerly-awaited new album, Pink Friday 2, at the beginning of next month. Since announcing it, she’s provided the Barbz with a single, delivered special surprises each Friday to build anticipation, and more. The hitmaker frequently finds herself a target for criticism, however, with social media users always looking for opportunities to make negative comments on what she does.

Unfortunately, this seems to have left the rapper fed up, based on a recent message she shared with fans. In her message, she notes the backlash she gets on a regular basis, advising people to stop trying to tell her how to do her job. Instead, she thinks fans should simply enjoy the work she puts out, as she doesn’t intend to change her ways to appease anybody.

Young Thug’s YSL RICO Trial Will Officially Begin Next Week

After more than 10 months of jury selection and over a year and a half behind bars, Young Thug’s trial will finally begin next week. Opening statements are now scheduled to start on Monday, November 27. He was originally arrested in early 2022 as part of a massive RICO indictment of his label YSL. Almost all of the defendants have since agreed to plea deals leaving just 6 remaining. Among them are two of the most high-profile figures in the case Thug and Yak Gotti.

Even though the trial hasn’t even started yet, there’s already been drama between the judge and lawyers in the case. First, the judge made a stern suggestion to Thug’s lawyer after a comment about the inclusion of one particular witness being a “farce.” The comment came after frustrating examination of a witness that the prosecutions alleged was a gang expert where the prosecution objected to almost everything asked. Yak Gotti’s lawyer had a similar encounter with the judge when he questioned the the arrangement of the court preventing the clients from their right to have a clear line of sight of the jury.

Young Thug’s YSL RICO Trial Finally Starting Soon

There were other high-profile figures involved in the original RICO indictment. Most notably is perhaps Gunna, who cut a plea deal earlier this year to avoid trial in the case. Many online took issue not just with the fact that he took a plea deal. The bigger issue was that he provided valuable testimony that YSL was, in fact, a gang.

The dissatisfaction didn’t particularly translate to Gunna’s sales though. The rapper released his album a Gift & a Curse earlier this year and it shot up to number two on the Billboard 200 in its first week. Even more impressively, the album contains one of the biggest rap hits of the year “fukumean. The song was a staple in the top 10 of the Hot 100 for months following its release and just landed on the Year End Hot 100. What do you think of Young Thug’s YSL RICO case finally getting a start date for next week? Do you think Thugger will beat the charges he’s facing? Let us know in the comment section below.

While Meek Mill has made quite a name for himself in the music industry, things weren’t always looking up for him. During his recent Urban One Originals appearance, he opened up about his first-ever rap battle. Unfortunately, it didn’t go exactly how he had planned, and he ended up crying in front of the competition. He detailed getting destroyed by a fellow rapper, who he says was at a far higher skill level than he was at the time.

“My first time rap battling — this some real sh*t — that n***a made me cry,” he explained. “I was like a bada** young boy at the time. We was battling, but it wasn’t about the battle. My whole hood was laughing at me and I never got laughed at about sh*t. You can’t mess with my sneakers, nothing!” he went on, pained by the memory. “I turned around and peeped with my eyes, got that lump in my throat, I started crying and walked off. I said, ‘All y’all n***as gonna be banging my shi*!’”
