Offset is keeping up his streak of charitable efforts, recently rewarding a group of students in Detroit for winning a Black history essay contest. Local artist Mr.1204 invited him to the event last week, where he surprised the group with a meet and greet. On top of getting to meet the hitmaker, each of the students went home with $100 and an autographed poster courtesy of Offset.

Mr.1204 shared a clip of the sweet moment on his Instagram, sharing more details of the fun surprise in his caption. “NOT ONLY DID THEY GET A PERSONAL MEET & GREET BUT ALSO RECEIVED PERSONAL AUTOGRAPHED POSTERS AND $100 EACH!!” he wrote. “NO KID KNEW WHERE WE WERE GOIN OR WHO THEY WERE GOING TO MEET! I SIMPLY TOLD EM… ‘I WANT Y’ALL TO MEET SOMEBODY!!’ FOUR OF THE STUDENTS WON A FREE TRIP TO AFRICA BY ENTERING A BOOK ESSAY!”

Offset Rewards Students For Winning Black History Essay Contest

This is far from the first time Offset’s used his icon status for good in recent months. Just after embarking on his eagerly anticipated Set It Off tour, he visited students at a high school in Baltimore, where he gave away $30K in groceries and gift cards. He also honored Caden Bowie during his visit, a student who got accepted into an impressive 40 colleges. Offset personally congratulated the senior for his accomplishments onstage.

During a recent stop in Philly, he also treated some local teens to a shopping spree alongside Gillie Da Kid and Wallo, praising the kids for their creativity, hard work, and talent. The Love Hard tour with Keyshia Cole, Jaheim, K. Michelle, and Trey Songz is currently underway, and its Baltimore show is drumming up a lot of discussion right now. Moreover, one of the reasons why is because fans are getting a little bit too close to Songz during this trek, or perhaps the other way around. A series of pictures surfaced from his meet and greet interactions with various fans, and in many of them, you can see them replicating various sexual poses or posing in an otherwise lewd or suggestive manner. This is especially notable because of the singer’s various accusations of sexual abuse and misconduct, although some of those lawsuits have been dropped recently.

Regardless, not every single picture here was that extreme, and it’s not worth singling out when many other artists do similar poses with fans. But Trey Songz’s choice to rest his hands on a female fan’s back as she bends over for him, plus the context of his alleged crimes, was a step too far in many’s eyes. Sadly, this isn’t the only recent fan interaction that drew some criticism online, although this one is more because of its combative nature. Allegedly, he lashed out on a woman he threw $300 for flipping him off afterwards, calling her ungrateful via direct message.

Many thought it was funny, others found it hard to believe, and some called it downright “predatory.” Luckily, the rapper has come through with a response to the debacle, providing confused supporters with an explanation. According to him, he wasn’t responsible for the note, if it was even real in the first place.

“KeyGlock said this ain’t a meet and greet lmao,” one Twitter user captioned the photo of the note. The rapper went on to retweet another user’s response to the note, reading “Baby that ain’t for Key lmaooo just FYI gotta do the team.”

Luckily, he doesn’t seem to be letting all the chatter get him down, sharing a subsequent Tweet in apparent response to the controversy. “I just be laughing sh*t off,” he wrote alongside a laughing emoji. “It’ll help you live longer.” While the origin of the note remains unclear, fans are at least glad to know that Key Glock didn’t write it. Prior to his directorial debut’s theatre release on Friday (March 3), the California-born actor was spending plenty of time in interviews and on the red carpet posing for photos. Additionally, his NSFW Calvin Klein photoshoot surfaced online last week, drawing even more attention his way as his body was on full display in the brand’s underwear.

The most recent MBJ moment to cause a stir online was shared by @theshaderoom on Instagram earlier this weekend. In a clip, the 36-year-old addresses an obviously overzealous fan begging him to take a selfie, remaining as calm as possible under what was clearly a tense situation. Thankfully, security was there to place themselves between Jordan and the eager follower, giving him a barrier to allow communication.
