DMX & Mary J Blige Celebrated With Mural In Yonkers Inspired By 2Pac

DMX and Mary J Blige are the subjects of a new mural in Yonkers, New York at Palisade Towers. The mural, titled “Together,” comes in at 78-foot wide by 18-foot-high. Mayor Mike Spano, Yonkers Housing Authority (YHA) CEO Wilson Kimball, Yonkers Arts Executive Director Ray Wilcox, and Artist Robin Alcantara were all on site to unveil it on Thursday.

“It is always a proud day when we can highlight the accomplishments of our city’s residents,” Mayor Spano said. “The talents and accomplishments of these local heroes is an inspiration to us all and a reminder that even those who come from humble beginnings can achieve great things.” Spano previously unveiled another DMX mural back in 2021.

Wilcox explained that the mural, which depicts a rose growing from concrete, was inspired by a poem from 2Pac. Kimball added that the mural will both inspire local residents and bring beauty to an urban area. “When we are surrounded by beauty we are inspired to do our best, and be our best,” she said. “This mural by Robin Alcantara celebrates African American culture and artists who were able to overcome their surroundings and rise to greater things.” Alcantara, the artist, said: “Being able to paint these walls in Yonkers is a dream come true and I am grateful to be able to work with you to bring murals to the city.” Check out a video from the unveiling below.

J Cole Honored With North Carolina Mural Amidst Kendrick Lamar Beef

J Cole is hip-hop royalty in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Overall, the rapper has always shown love to his hometown through his music and his actions. North Carolina, in return, has shown him love with a brand new mural. The mural in question was unveiled on April 2, and features a sprawling portrait of the rapper next to the phrase: “Welcome to Fayetteville.” Furthermore, it’s located on the side of a record store in downtown Fayetteville (naturally).

New York-based graffiti artist Andulaz The Artist created the mural. Andulaz posted images of the mural on his Instagram account with the caption: “I had lots of fun working on this piece. The community was really loving and embracing.” Additionally, the post received widespread praise from fans, who felt that it was a very fitting tribute to everything J. Cole has achieved in his career up to this point. The mural could not have been more perfectly timed, as the rapper’s annual Dreamville Fest is set to begin on April 6th. The fest will run throughout the weekend and feature performances from Cole and other rap stars like Nicki Minaj, 50 Cent and ScHoolboy Q.

Overall, Dreamville Fest has generated millions of dollars each year for the local economy, according to the label’s official website. According to HipHopDX, the festival generated a whopping $145 million in 2023 alone. This is not the first time that J. Cole’s charitable efforts have been recognized. North Carolina declared March 1 “J. Cole Day” back in 2012, which prompted him to release the documentary J. Cole Forest Hills Drive: Homecoming on HBO in 2016.

The mural and festival serve as a respite of sorts for J. Cole, who is currently in the midst of a beef with Kendrick Lamar. Overall, the Compton rapper took shots at Cole and Drake on the recent track “Like That,” which has some fans anticipating a response from the other 2/3 of the so-called Big 3. However, Cole has not publicly acknowledged the diss. Although he has thrown subliminal shots at Lamar in the past, so many are many who believe there’s more to come from Fayetteville’s favorite son.

Boosie Badazz Pays Tribute To His Fallen Friends On Murals Of His Mansion

Boosie Badazz’s mansion has been a big part of his headlines these days, although an unfortunate recent example involved a stalker at his home. However, there are many more reasons to be interested and invested in this property, and all those reasons are lost souls that he wants to honor and pay tribute to. Moreover, the Baton Rouge rapper recently got a mural at his mansion that features the likenesses of four of his friends who passed away. What’s more is that he also revealed plans to add another wall of tributes around his pool, yet it’s a bit unclear if they will depict other deceased loved ones or other gems in his life.

Of course, Boosie Badazz not only wants to pay tribute to those who aren’t around anymore, but also to stamp his name in the game and make sure his legacy lives on. This provoked a recent spat with Ye, who claimed that he invented the popular styles of music of the past 20 years. The 41-year-old took strong issue with this statement, offering himself up as an example of important hip-hop (and music at large) that exists outside of the Yeezy orbit of influence. While some fans debated this point heavily, it’s hard to argue that taking credit for all music of the past two decades is an exaggeratory statement.

You know how many rappers I raised out there, bro?” Boosie recently remarked during an Instagram livestream. “Like, who don’t give me my flowers. Everybody quiet bro. They don’t wanna be looked at, they don’t wanna be on my side and be looked at like you supporting Boosie. That’s what I be thinking it is. But, they’ll give Kanye his flowers, people like that. But, Boosie, you know.”

Meanwhile, the Trill Entertainment MC recently hosted his titular Bash with a lot of special guests. It was overall a pretty fun affair from the looks of it. More importantly for him, most likely, it’s a space to celebrate his craft, the people that helped him along the way, the people he continues to help, and those who aren’t around to see the fruits of their labor. Taylor Swift In A Ravens Jersey Is The Latest Piece Of AFC Championship Trash Talk

A Maryland-based artist and Ravens fan has taken trash-talking to a new level with his latest Taylor Swift-inspired piece. The artist, known as Dlordink on social media, showcased an intricate mural of Taylor Swift wearing a Ravens jersey ahead of the team’s matchup against the Chiefs this weekend. Furthermore, Dlordink called out Swift and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. “Tag @taylorswift & @killatrav in the comments and let them know how good she looks in @new_era8 @ravens purple,” he added as a caption.

Swift is expected to head to Baltimore this week as the Chiefs look for their third Super Bowl appearance in four years. However, the Ravens are hosting for the first time in franchise history. This ends a run of five consecutive championship home games for Kansas City. Meanwhile, Chiefs fans have tried to play off the trash talk. “Huh. Weird. I have to say, as a Chiefs fan, we kinda…don’t think about you at all. But whatever makes you feel better about things. Enjoy the crab cakes,” one fan replied on Twitter.

Meanwhile, another piece of media has gotten under Swift’s skin. The singer is considering legal action against the proprietors of a website that published NSFW AI images of her on social media this week. “Whether or not legal action will be taken is being decided. But there is one thing that is clear: these fake AI-generated images are abusive, offensive, exploitative, and done without Taylor’s consent and/or knowledge. These images must be removed from everywhere they exist and should not be promoted by anyone. Taylor’s circle of family and friends are furious, as are her fans obviously. They have the right to be, and every woman should be. The door needs to be shut on this. Legislation needs to be passed to prevent this and laws must be enacted.” a Swift team member told The Daily Mail.

Furthermore, Swifties rallied around the star as the images. Additionally, these images primarily showed Swift in sexual situations with Chiefs fans and players. “PROTECT TAYLOR SWIFT” began trending on X, with the accounts primarily responsible for perpetuating the images swiftly suspended. However, the incident served to highlight the devastating power that current AI image technology has regarding things such as “celebrity deepfakes”.

Fabolous Unimpressed By Mural Of Him, Biggie, Jay-Z, And More

A new clip of a man roasting a Brooklyn mural depicting various notable hip hop artists has gone viral. In the clip, the man highlights portraits of Jay-Z, Biggie, and more, mocking them for being unrealistic. Another artist depicted in the mural is Fabolous, but the man claims the portrayal doesn’t do him any justice. “Is this really supposed to be Fabolous?” he asks, suggesting that the painting could be any number of people, including Soulja Boy.

As the clip continues to make its rounds, Fabolous chimed in earlier this week, seeming to agree with the commentary. He weighed in in the comments section of the clip, claiming that the whole thing ought to be destroyed. “Nah what block is this?” he wrote alongside a laughing emoji. “We gotta knock this wall down.”

Fabolous Roasts Unrealistic Brooklyn Mural

Several fans also replied to Fabolous’ comment, poking more fun at the mural. This isn’t the only viral conversation the artist’s chimed into as of late, however. During an interview last week, he spoke on DJ Envy’s real estate scam allegations, claiming that he himself nearly invested. He recalled a phone call with the DJ, who sold it to him as a great opportunity to make some serious cash. According to him, he wasn’t all too convinced, and he never wound up investing.

“He was tellin’ me about some real estate stuff,” he began. “I’m just a guy that gotta see things through a little bit more. I don’t just get hyped at … y’know, it be a lotta ‘get money’ — I don’t want to call it a scam or a scheme — but a lotta ‘get money’ ideas that come to you, so I just gotta see ’em through. So even with that phone call, I was like, ‘Aight,’ but I wasn’t like, ‘Sign me up, [who] do I give my money to?’ Y’know what I mean, and I didn’t really hear back from [him].” What do you think of Fabolous’ reaction to the mural of him, Jay-Z, and Biggie? Angus Cloud Mural Appears In Oakland

Actor Angus Cloud passed away earlier this week. The 25-year-old was best known for portraying Fezco in Euphoria. Furthermore, he was set to star in the upcoming Universal Monsters film directed by Radio Silence. Cloud was found in his family home in Oakland on July 31. The nature of Cloud’s death has not been released to the public. However, it was known that he was struggling with the loss of his father. Cloud had traveled to Ireland for his father’s funeral the week before his own death.

“As an artist, a friend, a brother and a son, Angus was special to all of us in so many ways. The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend. Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence. We hope the world remembers him for his humour, laughter and love for everyone,” the Cloud family said in a prepared statement earlier this week. Now Cloud’s friends have prepared their own tribute for him.

Cloud’s Friends Create Moving Mural Tribute

Local Oakland artist Darin Balaban teamed up with a group of Cloud’s friends to create a touching tribute to the late actor. Working on the side of a car wash, Balaban created a nine-foot mural inspired by three photos of Cloud provided by his friends. Balaban, who also knew Angus, said that Cloud was “always smiling and calm”. One of Cloud’s best friends Kalani is also an artist and reportedly helped Balaban with the mural.

According to TMZ, the mural painting became something of a community wake. People provided beer and pizza as they swapped stories about Cloud. However, Balaban admitted that he was surprised at how quickly the mural, located at Park and E. 19th, became a gathering place for those looking to mourn. Elsewhere, Cloud’s Euphoria co-star Dominic Fike shared a powerful tribute to his friend during a performance on August 1.

20230624 MILLS BLOCK PARTY TG 00035

In collaboration with the Brooklyn Nets and creative agency Street Theory, Patty Mills celebrated the inauguration of a stunning new mural that pays tribute to local and global Indigenous communities. Created by acclaimed artist Victor “Marka 27” Quiñonez, the mural draws inspiration from Mills’ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage in Australia, as well as the RedHawk Native American Arts Council, Ramapo Munsee Lunaape Nation, and other Indigenous communities in the New York area.

“The idea for this mural came about a year ago in conversations with General Manager Sean Marks,” said Mills. “We thought of a creative idea to give something to the community that could make them feel proud and that they could have ownership of. This mural is something that can bring us all together no matter where you’re from and honor Indigenous people both around the world and here in Brooklyn. It’s a generational masterpiece that communities around the world can be proud of.”

Visual Portfolio, Posts & Image Gallery for WordPress

The mural’s objective is to emphasize the significance of Indigenous representation and the profound connection we share with water and each other. It features powerful figures surrounded by flowing water alongside native symbols and patterns, symbolizing the unity and vitality of nature.

The Team Mills Foundation and the Nets collaborated with Mexican artist Marka27 and Street Theory, an award-winning creative agency known for their remarkable large-scale public art projects worldwide, to design and paint the mural. Mills received guidance from the RedHawk Native American Arts Council, a nonprofit organization comprising Native American artists and educators residing in the tri-state area.

“Art has always been a catalyst for social change,” said Quiñonez. “Working with Team Mills, the Brooklyn Nets and The Redhawk Native American Arts Council was an honor and perfect opportunity for myself and Street Theory to celebrate our ancestors and Indigenous communities at the highest level through street art.”

The mural was unveiled during a community block party held at P.S. 958 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, on Saturday, June 24. The event featured a cultural blessing and dance performance by the Redhawk Native American Arts Council and performances by the Nets’ Team Hype and Brooklynettes. Jackie Wilson, the Chief DE&I Officer of BSE Global, the parent company of the Nets, was also in attendance.

“BSE Global and the Brooklyn Nets are thrilled to join Patty and all the groups that played a role in bringing the mural to life,” said Wilson. “This mural is a great showcase of our organization’s commitment to Brooklyn and the larger New York City area, and we’re excited to have been a part of a project that brought the community together to celebrate art and culture.”

“As a school committed to representing the diversity that makes up New York City, this mural is an important tool to deepen the understanding of Sunset Park’s history. We are so grateful for this opportunity to collaborate with Patty Mills, the Brooklyn Nets and other organizations that align with our school’s mission to center the experiences of historically marginalized groups. We look forward to teaching our students about all that it signifies for years to come,” said Emily Shapiro, principal for P.S. 958.

Vanessa Bryant Poses With New Kobe And Gigi Murals

Vanessa Bryant has taken to social media to show off new murals in Compton honoring her late husband and daughter. The murals are outside of the Wilson Park Gymnasium, which was recently refurbished. At the reopening, Vanessa revealed that building a public basketball court was a longtime goal for her family. “For years we’ve been trying to build a basketball court in a public space in L.A,” she explained. “We’re so thankful to council member (Andre) Spicer and Mayor (Emma) Sharif for allowing us to be included in your community.”

[WATCH] Tekashi 6ix9ine Mural Unveiling In One Of Mexico’s Most Dangerous Hoods

Screen Shot 2023 05 25 at 3.55.39 PM

A mural has been painted in Tepito, Mexico City of Brooklyn rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine and footage of the mural’s unveiling has surfaced online, showing 6ix9ine in the trenches of Tepito, which is known as one of the most infamous neighborhoods in Mexico City.

Tekashi is seen surrounded by hundreds of fans and noticeable security as he makes his way to the mural, where he takes pics and signs autographs for fans who hail him as a hero.

Tepito is a neighborhood adjacent to Colonia Morelos in the Cuauhtémoc borough of Mexico City. Besides having an extensive boxing tradition, Tepito is known for its open-air markets and a subculture that has attracted artists and academics. Tepito is also known as a place of high crime, with robbery being the illegal activity of choice. It has a “reputation for crime, poverty, and a culture of lawlessness,” according to the 2018 book Black Market Capital written by Andrew Konove.

Mural In Mexico City Honors 6ix9ine

6ix9ine, born Daniel Hernandez, recently paid his mother’s home country of Mexico a visit. He stopped in one notoriously dangerous neighborhood in Mexico City, Tepito. Known for drug trafficking and other crime, Tepito is also referred to as “Barrio Brava,” meaning “fierce neighborhood.” The rapper was immediately met with crowds of fans upon his arrival. 6ix9ine was also greeted by a mural created in his honor, which he posed in front of with his supporters.

The rapper recently shared another escapade from his Mexico visit with Instagram followers, posting a video of himself eating a tarantula last week. It wasn’t his first time chowing down on bugs, with a video of him eating a whole handful of them also going viral last month. “More celebrities are doing this so people can follow eventually this is what they will try to incorporate and feed us when the next food pandemic hits.” It’s already a good shortage don’t be fooled,” one commenter said. Other users claim his choice to eat insects has more to do with him losing brain cells during an incident in March. The incident saw the rapper get brutally attacked by three men in a gym bathroom.

6ix9ine Immortalized In Tepito

Three men were arrested and charged for the bathroom attack, but charges against one suspect, Anthony Maldonado, were later dropped. “I walk out the house and literally they have six detectives outside,” Maldonado said. He adds, “Everybody with assault rifles, German Shepherds and stuff, walking me out like a killer.” The man also revealed, “They take me to the police station, and they don’t even do a proper investigation. The didn’t ask me who I was with, where I was at that night, none of that. They just said, ‘You look like the guy and that’s you.’” Maldonado claims he was at Bible study at the time of the attack.

Earlier this month, a gay porno featuring an actor who resembles 6ix9ine also went viral on Twitter. Users went to town clowning on the rapper for the lookalike, with some even speculating about his sexuality.
