Lil Yachty Channels Playboi Carti On “Something Ether”

There are not many other artists in hip-hop right now doing it better than Lil Yachty in this time frame. For the past year and change Lil Boat has been a torrent run trying out a bevy of soundscapes within rap and even outside it. He basically hit the reset button at the beginning of 2023 and has not looked back since. This Friday is another busy one for the Georgia native as he is back with yet another single as well as a feature. Lil Yachty can be found on the deluxe version of Kid Cudi’s INSANO (NITRO MEGA) and on his own with “Something Ether.”

Something that has been really fun to see unfold for the 26-year-old is the improvement in lyricism. We saw this in spades on tracks like the J. Cole-assisted “The Secret Recipe,” and his most recent effort, “A Cold Sunday.” The beats were also fitting for those tracks, going lighter on the bass and drums. But with “Something Ether,” Yachty is going back to his previous trap-focused era in a way.

We say “in a way” because this song sounds like something that Playboi Carti was cooking up during his vamp era. This high-octane track is produced by the ever-so-talented Cardo. It sounds incredibly futuristic and definitely has a little bit of rage inspiration. Even Yachty’s “What” adlibs sounds like Carti’s. Still though, this outing is still a worthwhile addition to his hot streak of singles. Which makes sense considering ether is a flammable substance. You can check out the strobe-tastic music video above.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “Something Ether,” by Lil Yachty? Is this the best single in 2024 so far, why or why not? Do you like Yachty going in the rage music direction? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Lil Yachty. Lil Yachty is always looking to push the envelope with his music. Last year, he dropped his psychedelic album, Let’s Start Here, which was met with much critical acclaim. Tonight (February 13), Yachty teased a collaborative album with an equally creative artist and producer.

In a clip shared to his Instagram, Yachty is seen speaking to an unseen person, and revealed that he has worked on a collaborative album with James Blake.

“Granted, I think James has worked with a quite substantial amount of hip-hop artists,” Yachty says in the clip. “But this project, is just like— it’s so left. For both of us.”

Blake had previously hinted a collaboration between him and Yachty almost a year ago, when he shared a picture of the two in the studio via Instagram. Still, Yachty believes the album will take fans by surprise.

“Aside from that one picture that James posted—which, he doesn’t have many followers, actually—I don’t think people know that we know each other exists. So they’re just going to be like ‘What the f*ck? When did they do this?’”

At the end of the clip, a screen reads “Bad Cameo, a full-length album by James Blake & Lil Yachty.” Neither Blake nor Yachty have shared a release date for the album, but according to the caption of Yachty’s Instagram post, fans can expect the project “soon.”

You can see the teaser above.

Lil Yachty’s Lyrical Ability Progresses Further On “A COLD SUNDAY”

There is a large crowd out there that believes Lil Yachty is on a quote-unquote “generational run right now.” While that may be hard to believe for some, it is kind of hard to argue against that at this moment in time. The Georgia multi-hyphenate’s tear began in January of last year when he released Let’s Start Here. We talk about it a lot here on the site, but it is difficult not to when the album is so out of left field. Not only that, but it mainly stuck the landing.

Yachty’s psychedelic rock record is arguably his best work ever. Because of that, it seems he is more motivated than ever before. He was always consistent when it came to releasing music, but not with this level of aptitude. Lil Boat’s 2024 has been great so far as well, crossing over between genres. He is building on it with “A COLD SUNDAY.”

What is impressive about this 1:47-long track, is the lyrical prowess Yachty is displaying. It has similar vibes to his and J. Cole’s “The Secret Recipe.” He brings a boom-bap instrumental with some gorgeous vocal sampling weaving in and out. “It’s a cold Sunday to complain / I hold it in until it rain / I fought demons after fame,” are just some of the strongest lines in the song. Who knows, maybe this is the start of a new rap album?

What are your thoughts on this brand-new song, “A COLD SUNDAY,” by Lil Yachty? Is this the best track he has been a part of so far this year? If not, which one is his strongest outing? Do you think this is a single for an upcoming album? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. Creative trailblazer Lil Yachty has officially released his first single of the year, “A Cold Sunday” via Quality Control Music/Motown Records. Produced by Aris Tatalovich, the new single follows Yachty’s recent streak of genre-bending psychedelic collaborations, including a verse on Faye Webster’s “Lego Ring” and a time melting feature on YUNGBLUD’S “When We Die.” Lil Yachty also reminded fans about his undeniable prowess as a rapper last week with his verse on “Say Ya Grace” off Lyrical Lemonade’s All Is Yellow album featuring fellow megastar Chief Keef. Directed by AMD Visuals, “A Cold Sunday’s” new music video finds Yachty reflecting on heartbreak and living the life of a rolling stone as he masterfully flows through the song’s soulful jazz sample and boom-bap drum break.

Lil Yachty Continues To Showcase His Musical Versatility With His New Single, ‘A Cold Sunday’

Lil Yachty continues to push the envelope with his sounds. Tonight (February 2), the multifaceted musician has shared “A Cold Sunday,” his trippy, psychedelic new single, continuing the sounds he created with his last album, Let’s Start Here.

Over groovy guitars, Yachty reminds of his rap chops, reiterating how much he’s evolved as an artist.

“It’s a cold Sunday to complain / I hold it in until it rain / I fought demons after fame / I spent millions on terrain,” he raps on the song’s chorus.

In the song’s accompanying video, Yachty is seen through some kaleidoscopic images, as he raps along to what’s sure to be his next viral hit.

Yachty’s last album, Let’s Start Here, was one of the most acclaimed of 2023. And it looks fans won’t have to wait too much longer for new music. In an interview with Complex, Yachty shared that he has lots of new music underway for the near future.

“Making Let’s Start Here took time,” Yachty said. “Every day. But I think about it every day and I’m so excited to start the next album. But I’m just having fun making raps though, and tons of shit that I’m into putting out. I’m so excited as to what I have next and I got some things, I got some things in the pipeline, and it’s coming real soon.”

Lil Yachty And YUNGBLUD Work Perfectly On First Song Together With “When We Die (Can We Still Get High?)”

“Tonight worlds collide… it sounds like heaven. Close yer eyes n get soaked in it.” Those were the words of English multi-hyphenate singer YUNGBLUD on a recent Instagram post. He and Georgia rapper Lil Yachty flicked up together to announce their first-ever collaboration together. The new track is called “When We Die (Can We Still Get High?).”

For YUNGBLUD, this is his first offering since October 17, 2023, when he came through with “Happier.” It was part of a trio of tracks he put out that year with the other two being “Hated” and “Lowlife.” For Lil Yachty, this just continues his incredible run as of late. This past year or so has been an eventful one for the 26-year-old.

He took a pretty big jump to the psychedelic rock space with his Let’s Start Here. record back in January 2023. That venture has opened so many doors for him as it allows Lil Boat to make an easier transition to other styles of production. “When We Die (Can We Still Get High?)” is a perfect example of that. It is a gorgeous piece of rock/alternative that you will get lost in but in a good way. Yachty whips out the “Poland” vocals and they match beautifully with everything going on.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “When We Die (Can We Still Get High?),” by YUNGBLUD and Lil Yachty? Is this a duo you need to hear more from, why or why not? Could this have been on Let’s Start Here.? Who had the stronger performance and why? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. A New Lil Yachty Song Has Sparked The Ire Of Megan Thee Stallion Fans For Making Her Shooting A Punchline

Lil Yachty’s association with Michigan’s underground rap scene has been a gift to his rap reputation, but lately, it seems like it’s starting to become a curse. The penchant of rappers like BabyTron and Sada Baby to spit completely unhinged, utterly reckless punchlines has beld into Yachty’s own approach to rap, but thanks to his higher profile, it’s gotten him into hot water.

First, there was his reference to Billie Eilish’s breasts in his verse for Drake’s “Another Late Night.” While she laughed it off, he’s now catching heat for cosigning a rapper fans think dissed Megan Thee Stallion.

In a new song called “Sydney,” Yachty teams up with a burgeoning Brooklyn rapper named DONTKALLMELUXXY to flex raps over a sped-up version of Beanie Sigel’s 2005 single “Feel It In The Air.” The newer rapper courts controversy with his verse, threatening, “Better watch where you step or get treated like Megan Thee Stallion,” a clear reference to the July 2020 shooting of the Houston rapper by Toronto rapper Tory Lanez, who opened fire at Meg’s feet after an argument, leaving bullet fragments in her heels and leading to three long years of legal entanglements and harrassment for the “Savage” rapper.

Fans are naturally fairly turned off by this turn of phrase, responding with disappointment and anger on Twitter (not X).

Megan’s fans similarly came to her defense when Drake similarly referenced the shooting for a groaner of a punchline on his own For All The Dogs cut, “Circo Loco.” The line drew the ire of Megan herself, who at first defended the star, then snapped upon realizing just what the line said. “Stop using my shooting for clout b*tch ass N****s!” she wrote. “Since when tf is it cool to joke abt women getting shot ! You n****s especially RAP N****S ARE LAME! Ready to boycott bout shoes and clothes but dog pile on a black woman when she say one of y’all homeboys abused her.”

In any case, considering DONTKALLMELUXXY only has 539 subcribers on YouTube and less than 4,000 on Spotify, we can probably just assume that all this was just a bid for attention. Therefore, the best response is to probably ignore him and let him remain obscure. As for Yachty, let’s hope he’s a bit more judicious with his cosign in the future, because this wasn’t worth it.

DontKallMeLuxxy And Lil Yachty’s “SYDNEY” Makes Controversial Reference To Megan Thee Stallion

Lil Yachty’s relentless run is seemingly never going to end at this point. The eccentric rapper hailing from Georgia arguably has the biggest year in 2023 out of anyone. From dropping his experimental and psychedelic journey that was Let’s Start Here, to working with J. Cole on “The Secret Recipe,” this guy was all over the place. Now, he is back once again with someone who he is familiar with, but not many may know.

DontKallMeLuxxy is also a rapper and he is from Brooklyn, New York. His career is pretty minimal even though he has been dropping since 2017. He has dropped five singles in the past year or so and has one album to his name. That would be Bishop, which dropped right around the time he got his start. As we mentioned, he and Yachty have a history together. Together they dropped a track called “Trance” in 2020.

Listen To “SYDNEY” By DontKallMeLuxxy And Lil Yachty

Now, they are back for a YouTube exclusive track called “SYDNEY.” While it is another big moment for Luxxy, it comes with a caveat. If you are a Megan Thee Stallion fan, you may want to turn away from this one. According to Uproxx, people are bashing the track for the distasteful reference Luxxy makes in regards to the Tory Lanez fiasco. He raps, “That n**** always there better watch where you step get treated like Megan Thee Stallion.” Her supporters were quick to flame him on Twitter, saying, “That Megan Thee Stallion bar was NOT necessary or needed.” Another goes, “Every tongue that rises against Megan Thee Stallion will fall.” It will be interesting to see if she has anything to say about this.

What are your thoughts on this brand-new single, “SYDNEY,” by DontKallMeLuxxy and Lil Yachty? Who had the better performance and why? Is Luxxy’s bar about Megan Thee Stallion uncalled for? Do you think she will/should respond to this? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding DontKallMeLuxxy and Lil Yachty. Finally, stay with us for the most informative song posts throughout the week.
