Lil Wayne Knows The Main Reason Why Drake Is Hated And It Is A Simple One: “He Light-skinned”

Lil Wayne and Drake’s friendship is one of the most wholesome in all of hip-hop. Their love and admiration for one another runs deep, especially after Weezy discovered him all those years ago. If the Louisiana legend never brought him on to Young Money, we would not have the number of classics we have today. You can argue, that besides Drizzy’s family, no one knows him more than Wayne. It may be the reason why Richard Sherman asked him various questions about the Canadian superstar.

Sherman, a former NFL cornerback, is a part of the new panel on FS1’s Undisputed and recently began hosting a podcast. The latter is the platform that these two got to talking about the For All The Dogs creator. According to HipHopDX, Sherman first praised Wayne for his keen eye for talent. The living legend said he gets him the boss. “I get that from my upbringing, from being around Birdman.”

Lil Wayne Did Not Hesitate With His Answer

Then, the host segued that into why the hate for Drake is so large. It is a good question because he is a pretty polarizing figure. Additionally, it comes at a opportune moment, especially after the situation surrounding Yasiin Bey and his recent comments toward Drizzy. You might think that Wayne would have had answered that echoed Bey’s “pop music” take. However, it is far from it. The hitmaker feels it is simple, “He light-skinned.” He explains with a personal experience, “That’s just American history. How I know is, because I’m not light-skinned. I hated on all light-skinned dudes in school. So yeah, it’s American history, man.” The conversation starts around the 16:15 mark.

What are your thoughts on Lil Wayne saying why Drake is hated? Do you think that is a legitimate reason, or is it deeper than that? If you dislike him what are your reasons why? Is he the most hated hip-hop artist ever, why or why not? Where do you have him all-time in your rankings? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. Additionally, always keep it locked in with HNHH for all of the latest news surrounding Lil Wayne and Drake. Finally, stay with us for everything else going on around the music world.

Lil Wayne’s Kids Meet Queen Latifah While Sitting Courtside: Watch

Lil Wayne has been among the top-performing artists in rap for decades, and throughout that time he’s curated all kinds of friendships. As a Libra, it makes sense that his social circle is wide-spanning, and the “Lollipop” rapper rarely involves himself in beef. Instead, he likes to pour energy into expanding his massive discography, supporting the up-and-coming Young Money artists, and spending time with his children. Most recently, Weezy brought a few of his sons to sit courtside while the Lakers were playing. Earlier this month it was Kameron and Reginae Carter supporting the team from their coveted seats, but earlier this week he brought out 15-year-old Dwayne and 13-year-old Neal to join him.

Having a famous father comes with plenty of perks (such as frequent courtside seats), including meeting his array of friends. While sitting with Wayne, his teenage boys were lucky enough to cross paths with Queen Latifah, who confidently shook both of their hands. The Hairspray actress looked comfortable but classy in her black sweatsuit, slicked-back bun, and large hoop earrings. The Carter family was looking fresh too, clearly taking after Wayne’s bold style already.

Lil Wayne’s Little Ones Meet The Queen

As the video is circulating online, some are calling out Neal and Dwayne for not standing up to address Latifah. “My kids would have stood up for the Queen,” one user quipped under @HipHopDX’s post. “Them kids don’t even know how historic of a hand they were shaking, smh,” another chimed in, suggesting that Weezy’s kids are lacking in their hip-hop history knowledge.

Even if Lil Wayne’s sons are ignorant of Queen Latifah’s legacy, as social media seems to suspect, she’s still been getting plenty of flowers as of late. In 2023 she became the first-ever femcee to be honoured by the Kennedy Center, at which time Missy Elliott and Rapsody headlined her tribute show. Read more about that iconic moment at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Bernice King Addresses Jonathan Majors + Top 5 Rappers’ Controversial References To Civil Rights Leaders

2024-01-12-johnathanmajors-berniceking

Bernice King responded to Jonathan Majors after referring to her mother, Coretta-Scott King. Majors’ words add to an ongoing theme of civil rights leaders’ names being inappropriately mentioned.

‘My Mother Wasn’t A Prop’

On Jan. 9, Bernice King, the daughter of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., shared a post on Twitter (X) featuring a picture of her mother, Coretta Scott King. She accompanied the image with the following caption:

“My mother wasn’t a prop. She was a peace advocate before she met my father and was instrumental in him speaking out against the Vietnam War. Please understand…my mama was a force.”

The post was a subliminal response to actor Jonathan Majors, who had voicemails revealed in court during his domestic assault trial that he wanted his ex-girlfriend to  “be more like Coretta Scott-King or Michelle Obama,” although she is a white woman.

Rap Songs That Reference Civil Rights Leaders

Reflecting on the criticism Jonathan Majors faced for making a similar reference brings to mind instances when other hip-hop artists made the same mistake. Here are top five highlights where rappers referenced Civil Rights icons inappropriately in their lyrics:

Kanye West/Emmett Till – ‘Through The Wire’

Kanye West has mentioned Emmett Till several times throughout his career. Till was a 14-year-old boy who was kidnapped and brutally murdered for allegedly flirting with a white woman in 1955. In Ye’s 2004 hit “Through The Wire,” he rapped:

“How do you console my mom or give her light support? Telling her, her son’s on life support/And just imagine how my girl feel/On the plane scared as hell that her guy look like Emmett Till,” referring to Till’s mutilated face in his open casket.

Lil Wayne/Emmett Till – ‘Karate Chop (Remix)’

In 2013, rap legend Lil Wayne was under fire for also referencing Till. The controversial lyrics were in the “Karate Chop (Remix)” with Atlanta rapper Future. In the song, Lil Wayne rapped:

“Pop a lot of pain pills/ Bout to put rims on my skateboard wheels / Beat that p*ssy up like Emmett Till.” In an open letter, Lil Wayne agreed to stop using Till’s  name, vowing “to uplift rather than degrade our community.”

In February 2013, Till’s cousin Airickca Gordon-Taylor was among those who condemned the lyric:

“[It is] offensive not only to us, but to our ancestors and to women and to [the artists] themselves as young, black men,” “Our family was very offended, very hurt … [and] disturbed by [the line].”

Till’s family did not accept his apology

OutKast/Rosa Parks – ‘Rosa Parks’

Legendary Atlanta rap duo OutKast’s 1998 hit “Rosa Parks” included a line that referenced the act that Rosa Parks did in 1955 by not giving up her seat to a white man on a segregated bus. In the chorus, the duo rapped:

“Ah-ha, hush that fuss/Everybody move to the back of the bus.”

A lawsuit was filed by attorney Gregory J Reed in March 1999 against Outkast and LaFace Records on Parks’s behalf, claiming that the group had illegally used her name without her permission. The lawsuit was settled on April 15, 2005.

In the settlement agreement, Outkast and their producer and record labels paid Parks an undisclosed cash settlement and agreed to work with the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self-Development in creating educational programs about the life of Rosa Parks.

Jay-Z/Harry Belafonte – ‘Nickels and Dimes’

Jay-Z was in an argument with the now-late iconic actor, singer, and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte

In a 2012 interview, Belafonte called out the rap legend, his wife Beyoncé, and other Black artists because “they have turned their back on social responsibility.” When asked if he was happy about minorities in Hollywood in present times.

Jay-Z would respond to Belafonte’s comments on his 2013 song “Nickels and Dimes. ” In the song, the New York native rapped:

“I’m just trying to find common ground / Before Mr. Belafonte come and chop a n*gga down / Mr. Day-O, major fail.”

Tupac Shakur/C. Dolores Tucker – ‘How Do U Want It’

The late Tupac Shakur caused controversy when he targeted C. Dolores Tucker, a former Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and civil rights activist, in his 1996 song “How Do U Want It.” In the song, Tupac rapped:

“C. Delores Tucker, you’s a motherf*cker/Instead of tryin’ to help a n*gga, you destroy a brother/Worse than the others, Bill Clinton, Mr. Bob Dole/You’re too old to understand the way the game’s told.”

Dolores Tucker engaged in a campaign against rap music in the 1990s.  She condemned rap music for its “violent and misogynistic content.”

Ye compares Himself To Emmett Till

Along with mentioning Emmet Till in “Through The Wire,” Kanye West also compared himself to Till in a rant with media members in October 2022. He also called out Endeavor CEO Ari Emmauel and others for trying to “cancel him,” after his anti-semitic comments.

Eazy-E’s Daughter Speaks Out

This pattern of rappers facing criticism from family members of late stars is not an isolated incident. In 2021, Ebie Wright, daughter of late N.W.A. rapper Eazy-E, publicly called out Ice Cube in a documentary for avoiding discussions about her father.

When Does ‘The Book Of Clarence’ Soundtrack Come Out?

The Christmas holiday has long since passed. But if you’re in the mood for biblical stories, The Book Of Clarence has you covered. In November, to build up hype for the film, director Jeymes Samuel began to tease the supporting soundtrack back by Jay-Z.

Starting strong, Samuel dropped the lead single, “Hallelujah Heaven,” featuring Lil Wayne, Buju Banton, and Shabba Ranks. Since then, details surrounding the soundtrack have been sparse. So, when does the soundtrack for The Book Of Clarence come out?

Although an official release date has not been announced, it would be safe to assume that the project will be released in alignment with the film’s theatrical debut on January 12. Hopefully, the soundtrack will be made publicly available across streaming services the day before to give ticketholders time to absorb the project. In a press statement, Samuel shared his excitement for the musical side of the film.

“While I was working on ‘The Harder They Fall,’ and all my other projects, the story and the music for ‘The Book of Clarence’ were always there percolating in my mind,” he said. “There was never a question as to whether I would compose the score and write and perform on the soundtrack, as well as write and direct the movie. It was all one amazing journey where one depended on the other. But I also worked with the most awesome artists on our track ‘Hallelujah Heaven.’ Collaborating with Lil Wayne, Buju Banton, and Shabba Ranks was so dope; I loved getting them all on the same track.”

During a sit-down with Elliott Wilson, Jay-Z confirmed that he does appear on the soundtrack by way of an over 9-minute-long collaboration with D’Angelo.

The Book of Clarence will hit theaters on January 12. Find more information here.

As of 2024, Celebrity Net Worth estimates his net worth to be around $150 Million US Dollars.

Cash Money Records and Music Industry Success

Arguably the most significant contributor to Birdman’s net worth is his co-founding of Cash Money Records, which he established with his brother, Ronald “Slim” Williams, in 1991. Cash Money Records has become one of the most successful independent record labels in the industry.

The label has signed and released music from some of the biggest names in hip-hop, such as Lil Wayne, Drake, and Nicki Minaj. These artists’ successes have brought in millions of dollars in revenue, substantially increasing Birdman’s net worth.

Birdman, also known as Baby, gained recognition as an artist as part of the duo Big Tymers, alongside Mannie Fresh. Together, they released several successful albums in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Later, Birdman embarked on a solo career, releasing albums like Birdman and 5 * Stunna. His music career has generated substantial income through album sales, streaming royalties, and concert performances.

Birdman’s entrepreneurial spirit has also played a significant role in his net worth. He has ventured into various industries, including fashion, spirits, and oil exploration.

In 2006, Birdman and Lil Wayne launched the fashion brand/Cash Money off-brand YMCMB (Young Money Cash Money Billionaires), which became a popular streetwear label. Moreover, he invested in a spirit company called GTV Vodka, which has brought in additional income.

His foray into the oil and gas industry with Bronald Oil & Gas, however, did not prove as successful as his other ventures.

Real Estate Investments And Lavish Lifestyle

Birdman’s real estate investments have contributed to his wealth as well. He owns several multi-million-dollar properties in cities like Miami and New Orleans. These properties not only serve as homes but also as investments that can appreciate over time.

It’s worth noting that the entrepreneur is known for his lavish lifestyle, often showcasing luxury cars, jewelry, and extravagant parties. While his spending habits may not directly contribute to his net worth, they are a testament to the wealth he has amassed over the years.

Birdman’s wealth has not come without its share of controversies and legal issues. He has been involved in numerous lawsuits and disputes with artists signed to his label, such as Lil Wayne and Tyga. While these issues have the potential to impact his net worth, Birdman’s fortune remains substantial.

Conclusion/TLDR

Birdman’s estimated net worth of $150 million in 2024 can be attributed to his successful music career, record label, and business ventures. His influence and accomplishments in the music industry, as well as his diverse portfolio, have allowed him to amass a considerable fortune. With his continued involvement in the industry and his entrepreneurial endeavors, Birdman’s net worth is likely to remain impressive in the years to come.
