Metro Boomin Shouts Out Lil Uzi Vert For “Pink Tape” Being First No. 1 Rap Album Of 2023

One of the most annoying debates in the hip-hop world this year regards just sales: what would be the first rap album to go number one this year? Maybe “annoying” is a strong word, but people really wanted to see rap continue its dominant commercial streak for longer and called the genre “mid” without this. Regardless, we’ve gotten a lot of great hip-hop from both the mainstream and underground, even from the two last hip-hop albums to top the Billboard charts. Moreover, Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape officially claimed that spot last week with about 165K album equivalent sales. Though it’s quite long, there are certainly a lot of odd and exciting highlights no matter what style of Uzi you like.

Furthermore, the Philly superstar got a shoutout from the last artist to score a number one hip-hop album on the Billboard charts. Metro Boomin posted a report on the bookends of this commercial drought on his Instagram Story, tagging Lil Uzi Vert and adding a handshake emoji. In fact, Uzi themself reposted this on his social media as well, reiterating their chemistry. With hits like “You Was Right” under their belt, this might rekindle hope that they collaborate again soon.

Lil Uzi Vert Pink Tape No 1 Album 2023 Metro Boomin

Of course, Metro Boomin’s been on an absolute tear this year, whether in commercial or artistic terms. Recently, he executive-produced Young Thug’s album BUSINESS IS BUSINESS, dropping his own version of the tracklist that fit his original vision. In addition, the producer also recently masterminded the Across The Spider-Verse soundtrack, which garnered a lot of attention and acclaim. In addition, he’s become one of the most streamed hip-hop artists right now on top of all his accolades. It’s Metro’s year so far, and he recognized the other artists that join him on that podium in 2023.

Meanwhile, the “Fire Alarm” artist celebrated a noteworthy commercial performance with Pink Tape. 18 songs from the album made it on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and that’s a big majority of the album. Hopefully this recognition results in another smash hit from these two titans. On that note, check back in with HNHH for the latest news and updates on Lil Uzi Vert and Metro Boomin.

Lil Uzi Vert Says “Luv Is Rage 3” Will Be Out In A “Couple Of Months”

As one Lil Uzi Vert album releases and a hype cycle ends, another rises from the ashes to take its place. Moreover, after the success and buzz around their latest and highly anticipated album Pink Tape, they are once again in project mode, teasing the release of Luv Is Rage 3. While we don’t know for sure when the series’ next installment will come out, Uzi at least gave us a bit of a hint to go off of. Considering the sheer breadth and variety found on Pink Tape, it wouldn’t be too shocking if the Philly superstar decided to take some significant time before their next release. However, when they dropped their last solo studio album Eternal Atake in 2020, they released two other full projects that year, so maybe this is just their standard strategy.

Furthermore, the “Fire Alarm” rapper was approached on camera recently and was asked when Luv Is Rage 3 would come out. “Oh yeah, that’s coming,” Lil Uzi Vert responded. “Um, not too long. Probably, like… Honestly, I know I usually be lying, but a couple of months.” Well, at least they’re being honest, given just how long fans waited for Pink Tape after much teasing.

Regardless, it was definitely worth it, as the 26-track behemoth is expected to land at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. Pink Tape reportedly sold about 165K album equivalent units in its first week, which makes it the highest hip-hop debut of the year so far. Sure, the numbers might not seem impressive when compared to other No. 1 hip-hop albums that released over the past few years. Still, context is everything, and plenty of factors worked in Lil Uzi Vert’s favor to apparently make it the first chart-topping rap project of the year.

Lil Uzi Vert’s “Pink Tape” First-Week Sales Suggest It’ll Be First No. 1 Rap Album Of 2023

We’ve spent a little over a week with Pink Tape by Lil Uzi Vert, and it made a massive impact when it landed after a lot of anticipation. Whether for its variety, its fan favorites, or its most experimental moments, it seems like everyone has something to say about it. Not only that, but for the first time in 2023 for a rap album, it looks like enough people tuned in to take it to the top commercially. Moreover, HITS Daily Double reported that Pink Tape garnered 165K equivalent album unit sales in its first week. In addition, this marks the first time a hip-hop project in 2023 is expected to go No. 1, as it beat out Morgan Wallen’s dominant 36-track behemoth One Thing At A Time for the top spot, with that album selling 111K this week.

Furthermore, other Top 10 debuts this week include K-pop group MY WORLD – The 3rd Mini Album at No. 9 and Rylo Rodriguez’s Been One at No. 10. Another debut didn’t make the Top 10, but still did great numbers, and that’s Puerto Rican reggaetón (and more) producer Tainy with his star-studded album DATA at No. 16. Other hip-hop chart mainstays this week are Young Thug’s BUSINESS IS BUSINESS at No. 13, Gunna’s a Gift & a Curse at No. 8, Lil Durk’s Almost Healed at No. 15, and Metro Boomin’s Spider-Verse soundtrack at No. 19. Of course, SZA’s SOS still got a lot of sales this week, as well, with it placing at No. 7.

Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape‘s First-Week Sales

Given how many great hip-hop albums are included, to make a huge fuss over Pink Tape being the first to go No. 1 would be a disservice to the quality releases this year. Sure, maybe the output hasn’t been as great as last year at this point, but it’s also just been harder to break through. Regardless, Lil Uzi Vert had previously said that if their album goes No. 1, they’ll drop “[the] album [we’re] really looking for.” As such, no matter how you slice it, this is great news.

Meanwhile, many fans expect this to be Luv Is Rage 3, as teased on their social media bio. With 26 tracks and a whole lot of styles, at least Pink Tape will surely contain highlights for many fans to enjoy throughout the whole year. As such, with one hyped rollout ending, another takes it place swiftly, and fans are very excited for more. On that note, come back to HNHH for the latest news and updates on Lil Uzi Vert.

Lil Uzi Vert Thanks Ken Carson For Producing “x2” Off Of “Pink Tape”

After years of anticipation, hype, and speculation, Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape boasts no shortage of highlights, collaborations, and production highlights. After all, with 26 tracks ranging across rage, plugg, contemporary trap, and metal, how could it not? Still, one particular song that many old-school Uzi fans probably appreciate is “x2,” one of the synthiest and bounciest cuts on the whole project. With expressive vocalizations, simple flows, and outlandish lyrics from the Philly MC, it’s an energizing and fun track to bump wherever. In addition, the beat features the quick and lasery synths that much of their catalog boasts, and that became part of their trademark sound.

Moreover, “x2” actually features production credits from none other than Opium signee and new school fan favorite Ken Carson. Furthermore, in a recent Instagram post showcasing their latest performance, Lil Uzi Vert thanked the rage specialist for producing the beat. “Thank you for this beat,” they wrote to Ken Carson, including a black heart and vampire emoji. What’s more is that some of Uzi’s flows and delivery actually resemble occasional collaborator Yeat’s, another important figure in the rage genre.

Of course, this also confirmed previous teases that Ken Carson participated in Pink Tape to some degree, which surely pleased fans. However, another artist that Lil Uzi Vert teased to potentially be on the album was Playboi Carti, which didn’t end up panning out. While fans expressed disappointment at that reality, not all hope vanished as Uzi’s team accidentally uploaded a Carti collab to YouTube upon Pink Tape‘s release instead of the Don Toliver-assisted “Patience.” Many hope that this suggests that a collaboration between the “wokeuplikethis*” MCs isn’t far away.

Meanwhile, Uzi confirmed that their next album will be entirely new, and not a deluxe or expanded version of Pink Tape. With that, hype once again surged for their next musical moves, as we’re sure will happen any time there’s a gap in releases. Hopefully that next project also features more Opium involvement, or goes in an entirely new direction altogether. With that in mind, come back to HNHH for more news and updates on Lil Uzi Vert and Ken Carson.

Lil Uzi Vert & Travis Scott’s “Aye” Off “The Pink Tape” Is A Moshpit Banger

Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape proved itself to be quite the versatile project: metal headbangers, rage, synth-led bops, and some softer cuts. Overall, fans of any style of theirs will probably find at least a couple of tracks to latch onto on this gargantuan and highly-anticipated project. However, there’s one song here that’s meant for the moshpit frequenters, and that’s “Aye” featuring none other than Travis Scott. Of course, this explosive track is exactly what fans expected from this team-up, and it’s actually been a long time coming. Not only is this a previous leak, but it’s also their first official collaboration since the 2018 single “Watch.”

As far as their performances, the two MCs follow a similar vocal and melodic path when it comes to their flows. Rather, La Flame follows Lil Uzi Vert’s flow at first, and includes some switch-ups and more high-pitched vocalizations throughout. In Uzi’s case, they bring the energy to almost overloading levels with their shouts, emphatic lines, and rough tone. They show off plenty of chemistry here, even if Travis Scott has a pretty cringe griddy bar in there that doesn’t show him at his best pen game by any means. Even though the Philly MC isn’t going full lyrical miracle either, both artists bring an infectious energy to “Aye” that will have you shouting that repetitive chorus as well.

Meanwhile, the instrumental here is dramatic, hype-fueling, and addictive. The gorgeous strings that start the track off actually change pitch at a certain point, making the beat just a little more dynamic. Along with a slow-tempo trap beat with minimal hi-hats and snares (plus booming bass), it’s exactly the kind of track to throw elbows out and jump to at a show. If you haven’t heard it or the rest of Pink Tape yet, you can find it on your preferred streaming service. Nicki Minaj Thanks Barbz For Showing Love To “Endless Fashion”

Endless Fashion” is one of Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape‘s many highlights, and that’s obviously owed to Nicki Minaj’s great track presence. Whether it’s her melodic interludes, witty bars, or infectious energy, the Queen pleased longtime Barbz and naysayers alike. Moreover, she recently reacted to her fanbase and more showing her love for the track online, dividing it up into a few different areas. First, she addressed fans (particularly straight men) who typically dismiss her music, but thought that she did a great job on “Endless Fashion.” Then, the Trinidadian rapper thanked these people for supporting the song, calling them “undercover” fans.

“S/o all my undercover barbz playing #EndlessFashion all day reminiscing,” Nicki Minaj wrote on Twitter. “I know y’all gotta pretend not to be in love wit da 1 (not da 2). I still love y’all. I can feel the vibrations. Muva thanks u. Come let me give you a noogie in yall big a** head. *virtual hugs*.” In addition, she spoke more specifically on a few clips that went viral of guys reacting to her verse.

Nicki Minaj Thanks “Undercover Barbz”

“Nah the way they just switched up like that is cr*zy,” one user on Twitter captioned a video compilation of the phenomenon. “These str***ots be trying it chi,” the 40-year-old replied in a quote-tweet. “Nah they cute or whatever & actually I rlly appreciate them being MEN comfortable in their own skin.” There are plenty of fans of every demographic online who turned around on Nicki Minaj after this verse, despite their own biases. Given the amazing year that she’s been having so far, we’re sure that even more people will be praising her by her next album in November.

The Queen Addresses Haters-Turned-Fans

Also, she spoke a bit more earnestly about why this fan reaction happens, and why people have those biases. “Music is more than metaphors & ppl r free to like who & what they like for their own personal reasons babe,” she responded to a fan who asked why men discount her talents. “For instance, those guys in the 2 videos clearly identify with Uzi & they have his temperament. That like-able quality. But shy. Very deliberate/conservative w/who & what they like. I think they’re dope.” For more news and the latest updates on Nicki Minaj, stay logged into HNHH.

Lil Uzi Vert & Nicki Minaj Boast “Endless Fashion” Sense In “Pink Tape” Highlight

Pink Tape is finally here, and odds are that you like at least one of Lil Uzi Vert’s 26 tracks on it (although fan consensus indicates that people are mostly enjoying a big chunk of the tracklist). Still, even if you aren’t the biggest fan of the project, you can’t deny that songs like “Endless Fashion,” featuring Nicki Minaj, are clear highlights. On the bouncy and bright cut, the two MCs trade ridiculous bars, clever wordplay, and of course, plenty of flexes of their luxury fashion sense. In addition, it’s all brought together by a cheeky and instantly recognizable vocal interpolation of Eiffel 65’s “Blue (Da Ba Dee).”

First, the production on the track is relatively atmospheric, with minimal hi-hats, snares, and kicks making up the drum pattern. In addition, there’s not a strong or super prominent melody in the instrumentation, as Lil Uzi Vert and Nicki Minaj take up that responsibility vocally. Instead, the beat is grounded by occasional high-pitched synth keys and by washed-out and faint synth pads replicating the catchy tune of “Blue.” As such, it makes for quite the dreamy and spacey cut that doesn’t take itself too seriously, but ensures that the vibe of the track goes further than its novelty. What’s more is that both artists come through with some sharp bars and melodic phrases to fill the track up, especially Nicki.

In fact, she and JT spoke on Twitter about the process behind her verse, with the City Girl asking how she turned it in so fast. “Girl I started @ 8am & finished like 5pm,” the Queen explained. “When I tell you I was exhausted by the time I was done. Lol. B/c I was rushing to get it in on time. I kept telling [them] ’30 mins’ then hitting [them] back 2 hours later TB 15-20 more minutes Uzi!!!! Lil Uzi Vert Speaks On Paying For Lotta Cash Desto’s Funeral

The tragic death of frequent Lil Uzi Vert collaborator Lotta Cash Desto in a drive-by shooting shocked them profoundly. For those unaware, Desto was killed in September of 2022, and the Memphis rapper was just starting to establish herself as a rising name to watch. While Uzi didn’t speak out on this publicly too much, they did a lot behind the scenes to honor her legacy and pay tribute to her memory. Moreover, they just spoke briefly on the subject on the track “Days Come and Go” off of their latest album Pink Tape. In a set of bars, the Philly star spoke on paying for her funeral costs.

“I got too much on my mind, too much on my plate,” Lil Uzi Vert rapped on the song. “I spent two-hundred thousand on Desto funeral, that’s an estate / I don’t know why they be mad at me, ’cause I’m expressin’ my ways.” Overall, the track is among the more somber and emotive cuts on the album, and this line certainly adds to that weight in the tracklist. In addition, during her funeral, the 27-year-old spoke earnestly and lovingly of their relationship with Lotta Cash Desto.

Lil Uzi Vert Addresses Lotta Cash Desto’s Funeral

“I ain’t gon’ lie this don’t even feel real to me,” Lil Uzi Vert expressed during the services. “Destinee was always on my hip everywhere I go. I had got in some trouble and they put me away I had to go to a rehab program and all that. She called me every day. Even if she called to argue with me, she called me every day and that’s what counted.” While there are many standout lyrical moments on Pink Tape, this one made for one of the album’s most powerful and saddening narratives.

Meanwhile, another lyrical focus that fans picked up on was Uzi confirming their sexual orientation. “First of all, I f**k eight b***hes a day / How could you ever say Lil Uzi gay?” they rap on the opener “Flooded The Face.” Over the next few weeks, we’re sure we’ll be picking up on a lot more that they had to say on their highly-anticipated album. Playboi Carti’s Absence On Lil Uzi Vert’s “Pink Tape” Gets Fans Down Bad On Twitter

Pink Tape is finally here, and fan consensus indicates that Lil Uzi Vert did not disappoint with this long-awaited release. However, there is one aspect of the album that disappointed fans and has them once again clamoring for online: where in the world is Playboi Carti? In the lead up to this album, Uzi teased an appearance time and time again, whether when they spoke on having the features that everyone wants or expects or by shouting Carti out on social media and previewed tracks. Still, the tracklist finally arrived, and the Whole Lotta Red star was nowhere to be seen. That being said, we still got a taste of what almost happened between them.

Moreover, when Lil Uzi Vert’s YouTube page posted the track “Patience” with Don Toliver, it allegedly contained a version with Playboi Carti and not the officially released version. Though those responsible fixed that quick, fans still clamored for the song to appear on a deluxe version in the reply section. In addition, a collab track called “Rich A** Bastard” also surfaced online that they apparently scrapped for Pink Tape. As such, even though fans lost hope when they saw the tracklist, there’s still a chance another team-up is around the corner.

Twitter Reacts To Playboi Carti Not Being On Pink Tape

If you’re curious to hear what could’ve been (or still could be), one user replied to the tweet above with a link to the leak. Elsewhere on Twitter, fans lamented the lack of Playboi Carti on Pink Tape with reaction videos, GIFs, memes, and a whole lot more. “Surely yeat and playboi carti are hidden features on pink tape right??” one fan wrote. Their tweet contained a GIF that sums up exactly how many die-hards feel right now: Spongebob clutching his pencil nervously like someone dying of hunger staring at a hamburger.

Meanwhile, there are certainly other features on Pink Tape that stole the show. For example, JT and Nicki Minaj recently went back and forth on Twitter talking about the latter’s verse on “Endless Fashion.” Apparently Nicki handed her verse in quickly after a long day’s work, and it resulted in a lot of standout lines. Hopefully Carti’s working hard in the studio to get his next verse in for Uzi, too. Regardless, check out more fan reactions below and stay up to date on HNHH for the latest on Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert.

Nicki Minaj & JT Talk About “Endless Fashion” Verse On Lil Uzi Vert’s “Pink Tape”

To the delight of fans everywhere, Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape is finally here, and there’s a lot to digest. Rather, there are a whopping 26 tracks to go through, counting the three bonus songs, and a couple of interesting features. Of course, one of the most hyped and acclaimed so far has been Nicki Minaj’s contributions to the song “Endless Fashion,” where she has a few back-and-forth bars with Uzi plus her own verse. Moreover, the New York rap star recently spoke on her appearance on Pink Tape with Uzi’s flame JT, who wanted to commend Nicki for handing her verse in quickly. Then, Nicki explained what the process for that verse looked like.

“Can I tell them how fast you turned your verse in” JT tweeted at Nicki Minaj. “I almost had a heart attack today! You really too real & raw I love you.” “Girl I started @ 8am & finished like 5pm,” she replied. “When I tell you I was exhausted by the time I was done. Lol. B/c I was rushing to get it in on time. Nicki Minaj Speaks On Her Verse For Uzi’s Pink Tape

Across the 40-year-old’s killer verse, there are plenty of brag-heavy bars, clever instances of wordplay, and the charisma and technical skill you expect from a true vet like Nicki Minaj. “B***hes only eatin’ when I dust crumbs” and “I was really in the field with Karl Lager’, now it’s Heaven campaigns (R.I.P.)” are just a few standout lines. In addition, the song creatively and somewhat cheekily interpolates the melody of Eiffel 65’s memed-out hit “Blue (Da Ba Dee).” After all, what’s a Lil Uzi Vert project without some creative and pop-culture-rooted sampling?

Meanwhile, fan reception to the project in the few hours since it released has been nothing short of praiseful. Many longtime fans expressed their love of the project despite its long runtime, as they really channel what made them resonate with fans in 2016 and earlier. Overall, Uzi has an album of the year contender on their hands, and it’s hard to deny how infectious these songs are.
