Lakeyah Shows Us How A ‘Real B*tch’ Does It On Her New Single

Lakeyah has another heater on her hands. Over the course of the summer, the Quality Control rapper has delivered a series of bangers, including the bold “Record Straight,” and the Latto-assisted ladies anthem, “Mind Yo Business.” On her latest single, “Real B*tch,” Lakeyah sets herself apart from her peers, arriving ready to eat up her competition.

She channels Lil Wayne in her first verse, saying, “I ain’t asthmatic, but this spit game Weezy / Put these rap h*es on the plate just to feed me.”

Lakeyah is later joined by her QC labelmate, Gloss Up, who, fresh after signing a deal, is ready to join the ranks of the women rappers dominating the scene right now. “B*tch, I just signed to QC and got a big bag / I’m finna show you why these ratchet b*tches real bad.”

The song’s instrumental contains a prominent sample of Khia’s “My Neck, My Back,” and toward the end of the song, Lakeyah interpolates “My Neck, My Back’s” chorus, saying, “Ice out my neck, and my wrist / He ain’t gotta cheque, he ain’t talkin’ ’bout sh*t.”

In the song’s accompanying video, Lakeyah and Gloss Up are seen enjoying a day party with friends, filled with dancing, swimming, and pouring up liquor.

Lakeyah Sets The ‘Record Straight’ In Her New Video

Quality Control’s new signee Lakeyah is ready to take the summer by storm. On her new, scorching single, “Record Straight,” Lakeyah asserts control. She knows she’s bossy, and wears that label with pride, not taking any sort of BS from any man.

“Let me set the record straight / I’m a young fine b*tch, but I’m a heavy weight / Know we shuttin’ down the function when we celebrate / And these diamonds on me shinin’ ball like Kevin Gates,” she raps.

In the song’s accompanying music video, she is dressed in two-piece suit and high-top stilleto boots. She arrives at a construction site and hands out orders to the men working.

“Record Straight” comes from Lakeyah’s new EP, No Pressure, Part One, which dropped today. When speaking of her project in an interview with Popsugar, she said. “It’s so much growth in the music, I stepped out of my comfort zone for sure, as everybody can see …I wanted to work with a lot of different and big producers, creative people, and you can hear the confidence in my music.”

Lakeyah And Latto Flex With Some Foliage In Their Boastful ‘Mind Yo Business’ Video

Two of rap’s fastest-rising women link up for a fiery collaboration on Lakeyah‘s “Mind Yo Business” featuring Latto. The two former XXL Freshmen (Latto was selected for the honor in 2020, when she was still Mulatto, while Lakeyah was picked last year) are among hip-hop’s most dedicated straight-up rappers, so it only makes sense that they’d team up — and that their collab would work so well.

The Atlanta native and the Atlanta transplant (by way of Milwaukee) display some aggressive chemistry on the fast-paced track, which finds them boasting their big-money moves while warning haters not to stick their noses where they don’t belong. In the song’s video, the two women lounge among the shrubbery in a well-manicured garden while the thirsty gardeners try to catch a glimpse of their greatness from behind the hedges.

Lakeyah, who is signed to Quality Control Music, told Uproxx in a 2020 interview that she plans to be “the biggest artist in the world,” and with the help of Latto — already a burgeoning a superstar in her own right — she appears well on her way. If this is the beginning of a rollout for Lakeyah’s debut album, she’s off to a strong start.

Lakeyah And Latto Encourage All To ‘Mind Yo Business’ On Their Confident New Song

After Lakeyah lead an enthusiastic social media campaign, including having fans guess who would be featured on her new track, tonight she releases her new single “Mind Yo Business” featuring Latto. It’s a special moment as the two rap over a sample of Lil Kim and Iconz’s “Get F***** Up” from 2001. Lakeyah is as confident as ever, denying men the opportunity to get with her if they don’t have as much money as she does. Latto dismisses the men who feel the need to lie about their size in addition to not being able to afford her as well.

“Mind Yo Business” follows Lakeyah’s previous single “I Look Good.” The Quality Control artist last released the third iteration of her time-themed series of projects, My Time (Gangsta Grillz: Special Edition) with the help of DJ Drama back in September of 2021. On the flip side, Latto is reveling in the success of her March album 777, boosted by the chart-topping smash hit “Big Energy,” which she later remixed with Mariah Carey. It’s a fun time to enjoy female rappers, and these two are bringing the energy as the summer rolls around meaning men better come to them correctly.
