City Girls’ JT Unveils Solo Power with Release of “Sideways” Single

City Girls' JT Unveils Solo Power with Release of "Sideways" Single

Today marks a significant milestone for JT of the acclaimed hip-hop duo City Girls, as she drops the record and accompanying video for her latest solo track, “Sideways” (Quality Control Music/Motown). Following the triumph of her previous solo single, “No Bars,” which achieved over 100,000 sales and 30.2 million streams, “Sideways” sets the stage for JT’s upcoming solo EP.

“I’m excited about dropping solo music because I can focus more on my creativity. I love everything about being an artist!” she says. “I just wanna chill, look good and drop pretty cocky bitch music. I’m the City Cinderella!”

As one-half of City Girls alongside Yung Miami, JT’s venture into solo work signals a bold new chapter in her career as she asserts her individuality and artistic prowess. Fans can expect “Sideways” to be a dynamic glimpse into JT’s evolving musical journey and a teaser for what’s to come in her promising solo career.

“Sideways is a mood! Sometimes women are forced to be friends with everyone and if we decide to stay to our self they call us mean,” she says. “Most of these b*tches nosey & phony! I love my b*tches though, the real ones. Shout out to the real b*tches!”

JT Isn’t Here For Haters Coming At Her ‘Sideways’ On Her New Solo Single

JT of City Girls is continuing a run of solo bangers. Tonight (February 2), she shared her new single, “Sideways.”

The track features JT establishing herself as a solo act, while still repping the Miami rap duo. Like on her previously released track, “No Bars,” JT maintains her energy, while riding the beat with energy.

“B*tch, I ain’t friendly, I don’t f*ck with y’all b*tches / Tryna take who? It ain’t enough of y’all b*tches / Hoes so phony got me lookin’ at ’em sideways / It’ll never be the same, motherf*cker, old days,” she raps on the song’s chorus.

Over the years, JT has been known to add a punch to City Girls tracks. Her chemistry with her bandmate Caresha “Yung Miami” Brownlee is undeniable. But with “Sideways,” as well as upcoming solo songs, JT aims to make herself a rapper of her own accord. Perhaps a solo album or mixtape may soon be on the way, as she lays the groundwork for longevity.

“‘Sideways’ is a song not a verse,” said JT in a statement, “and in 2024 I want to go from ‘JT has good verses!’ to ‘JT make good songs!’”

You can see the video for “Sideways” above.

JT Unveils New Single, Its Cover Art, & Release Date

At the beginning of January, JT, of the femcee rap duo City Girls, hinted at a single on her Twitter account. “Sideways is a song not a verse & in 2024 I want to go from ‘JT has good verses!’ to ‘JT make good songs !!’” It is always exciting to hear artists want to constantly improve and change the narrative around them. Many people had a lot of negative things to say about RAW, the City Girls’ most recent full-length. Low first-week sales in the single digits dug the hole deeper for them to crawl out of.

However, one bright spot from that record was JT’s solo song “No Bars.” A high-octane banger that was all gas and no brakes. In addition to that, fans were eager to hear what she could do as a solo artist. Especially with an R&B snippet that surfaced and some karaoke raps as well. It seems that the proclamation we referred to at the beginning is going to be the start of this new era for JT.

Kali Uchis is one of this generation’s most consistent artists. The sheer volume of music that pours out of her is pretty astounding. JT Dips Her Toes Into A New Sound In Latest Snippet: Listen

The City Girls are mostly known for their high-octane bangers that get you up on your feet. They have been riding that formula for the past couple of years or so. However, after some disappointing sales from the duo’s last record, RAW, back in October, it might be time to try something else. DJ Akademiks has always been sending potshots toward Yung Miami. After hearing about the single-digit first-week numbers, you know he was right there to say something about it.

But, it seems that JT is taking this in the best way possible. One thing that is great about the start of a new year is to restart and improve on what you did in the past. That is what the 31-year-old rapper is doing with a new snippet that is making the rounds on social media. The Neighborhood Talk‘s Instagram caught wind of some music that she shared and its something new.

JT is trying her hand at singing and going more melodic with this teaser. The production is more lowkey and minimal as well. It is heavily auto-tuned, however, this could be her just experimenting in the studio. Some people in the comments are saying this song is called “Paradise” because of how many times she repeats it. There is nothing else to really note, other than it is a little taster of what could be to come from JT.

What are your initial thoughts on JT’s new snippet? Does it sound like something you would be looking forward to hearing a full version of? If not, why? Do you think it is the right thing to do for her career to branch off into another sound? Is this something she could create a strong solo catalog, why or why not? We would like to hear what you have to say about all of this. With that in mind, be sure to leave all of your hottest takes in the comments section below. JT Falls In Heels At City Girls Show, Yung Miami Saves The Day

Besides being the strongest lyricist of the two City Girls, JT is also the rap diva with a fashion education that she uses to keep herself looking fly. Her taste certainly isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but that hasn’t stopped the Florida native from moving confidently on and off stage. During a recent performance, the “No Bars” hitmaker wore sky-high heels that unfortunately made her fall to the floor while performing on stage. Thankfully, her partner in rhyme Yung Miami was beside her to hype her up and get their show back on track.

In the clip below, JT seems to lose her footing as “Take Yo Man” blares over the speakers. After the City Girl awkwardly stumbles backward and recovers, we see Caresha Brownlee crossing over to help make sure she’s okay before getting back to spitting into the microphone. “I love how Miami went to help her and hyped her back up. Real friend shiii! 👏🏾,” one Instagram user observed in @theneighborhoodtalk’s comments.

JT Might Tumble Sometimes, But She Always Gets Back Up

“The way I would’ve went backstage, gon head Caresha just finish it 🤣🤣😭😭😭😭,” someone else quipped, praising JT for not letting a small fall embarrass her. As we move into 2024, it’s unclear exactly what the “Act Up” artists are planning to share with their fans, though the 31-year-old has hinted at her desire to release more solo music as she continues to grow as an artist.

At this point in their careers, Yung Miami and JT are no strangers to criticism from hip-hop heads. Still, they never let the bad attitudes of others get them down – instead, they use it to fuel their fires and become even better at their craft. Nicki Minaj Flexes Her Thanksgiving Feast

Nicki Minaj recently took to social media to show off the meal she prepared for Thanksgiving, leaving her followers drooling. Her feast consisted of mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, chicken, and more. She even threw in some crab legs, an unorthodox but welcome addition to the holiday meal.

Followers fully expected Nicki to pop off in the kitchen this Thanksgiving, and they’re not the only ones. Her friend JT of City Girls shot her a text the day of, letting her know that she was looking forward to seeing what she cooked up. “Happy Thanksgiving!” she wrote. “You started cooking yet? I want to see the food.” Nicki responded, telling her that she’d definitely be taking the opportunity to flex her cooking skills. “Yes tf I am ma’am!!!!!” she wrote, wishing her a happy holiday as well.

JT Wishes She Dined With Nicki

The “No Bars” performer went on to share Nicki’s screenshot of their chat, revealing that she wishes she could have dined with Nicki. The Trinidadian-born rapper clearly went all out this year, which makes sense considering all that she has to be thankful for. Earlier this month, she took home an award for Top Female Rap Artist at the Billboard Music Awards for the first time in her career. She went on to thank the Barbz for their support and tease Pink Friday 2, which is slated for release on December 8.

“Thank you to the Billboard Music Awards for presenting me with the best female rap award of 2023,” she said in a clip before blowing fans a kiss. “Barbz, you are amazing. I appreciate you so much. And I can’t wait to share Pink Friday 2 with you on my birthday, December 8.” What do you think of Nicki Minaj’s Thanksgiving dinner? Would you have dined at her house? Yung Miami Says Blac Chyna Was Her Least Favorite Episode Of Caresha Please

In a recent segment of Cosmopolitan‘s entertaining Cheap Shots game, dynamic duo JT and Yung Miami, took a seat to engage in a candid exchange of questions from the game’s cards. The atmosphere was light-hearted, yet revealing, as they delved into personal and professional aspects of their lives. However, one question led to a surprising revelation. It happened when JT asked Yung Miami to name a guest she wouldn’t invite back on her podcast. Yung Miami took less than five seconds to come up with an answer of who she didn’t want to invite back on Caresha Please, and why.

However, without hesitation, Yung Miami shared a name that echoed with significance – Blac Chyna. The unexpected response immediately piqued the audience’s interest, as Yung Miami went on to explain her reasoning behind the decision. “It was one of my interviews where I didn’t really feel a connection,” Yung Miami candidly admitted. Moreover, in the realm of podcasting, where genuine and engaging conversations are the heartbeat of the medium, a lack of connection is a pivotal factor. Yung Miami’s honesty showcased the importance of authentic interactions, even in the glitzy world of celebrity interviews.

Furthermore, the revelation sheds light on the challenges of hosting a podcast and the nuances involved in creating meaningful content. It’s not merely about having famous guests but ensuring a genuine rapport that resonates with the audience. Her choice to exclude Blac Chyna from future Caresha Please episodes reflects her commitment to providing her listeners with content that feels personal. And resonates! However, while Blac Chyna’s episode certainly received less engagement than the time when Ari Fletcher came on, they still delved into juicy topics.

Moreover, in the world of podcasts, the magic happens in unscripted moments and spontaneous conversations. Miami’s revelation serves as a reminder that even in the glittering world of fame, some connections are just not meant to be. As Caresha Please continues to navigate the exciting landscape of celebrity interviews, audiences can expect more unfiltered moments that add depth and authenticity to the podcasting experience.

Did JT & Lil Uzi Vert Break Up?

A few weeks ago, Lil Uzi Vert told fans that the third installment of their Luv Is Rage mixtape series is on the way, noting that “I only drop Luv Is Rage when my heart is hurting. It’s about that time.” Although the Philly rapper declined to elaborate, it looks like the reason for the aforementioned pain might be a breakup with their longtime girlfriend JT of City Girls. According to Hot97, the two rappers had unfollowed each other on Instagram, citing a gossip account with screenshots of Uzi venting on their Story.

In the posts, Uzi wrote, “Im not as close to my family as I should be. My relationship isn’t in the best shape. I JUST WANNA BREATHE… I’ve been distant from everyone lately, even if they are standing right next to me.” While neither has confirmed a breakup — and this isn’t the first time such a rumor has surfaced — the evidence for such a conclusion is certainly mounting.

The two rappers had been dating ever since 2021 when JT said Uzi gave her $30,000 on their first date. Later that year, Uzi reportedly rented out an amusement park for JT’s 29th birthday.

However, things seemed rocky earlier this year, when JT threw her phone at Uzi during the BET Awards. While some fans and gossip outlets speculated that she was angry at him for allegedly flirting with Ice Spice, who was seated near them. Meanwhile, JT herself told The Breakfast Club she was actually irritated because Uzi gave her seat to ASAP Bari, who refused to get up.

Lil Uzi Vert is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Is City Girls’ JT Changing Her Rap Name?

Miami rap duo City Girls has a new album out, but that isn’t stopping one of the group’s members from considering a name change to help her solo career out. JT recently admitted that her rap name is a little less than ideal from a search optimization standpoint after a fan on Twitter noted that efforts to get her name trending were futile since it’s just two letters. “I think I should change my rap name but to what?” she asked her followers.

Does this mean the rapper is officially changing her name?

Well, it wouldn’t be unprecedented for her to do so. In 2021, another rising rap star, Latto, changed her name after receiving some backlash over her prior nom de guerre. At the time, she explained why following through on those plans can be complicated with big implications for a career already in motion. “I want [my fans] to also understand that the name change at this level in your career is a big decision,” she said. “Freaking investors, labels, everything has been riding on this name, so it is a big decision.”

Also in 2021, Yung Baby Tate shortened her own name to just Baby Tate, which is admittedly a little catchier. Should JT decide to change her name, it’ll mean updating a lot of contracts and online info, but her fans’ responses suggest that at least a new one could still be recognizable; options suggested included “Jay Tea,” “The Girl JT” (based on her Twitter handle), or even just “Jatavia” — a strategy that has worked for her partner Yung Miami, whose talk show Caresha Please uses her real first name.
