Kali Uchis is one of this generation’s most consistent artists. The sheer volume of music that pours out of her is pretty astounding. What is even more remarkable is that her sonic creativity spans two languages. Last year, she flexed her vocal abilities in English on Red Moon In Venus. This year, on Orquídeas, she will do it all again, but in Spanish.

In a statement, she discussed the delicate inspiration behind the forthcoming project. “The orchid is the national flower of Colombia, and we have more species of orchid than anywhere on earth,” she said. “I always felt distinctly intrigued and magnetized by the flower. This album is inspired by the timeless, eerie, mystic, striking, graceful, and sensual allure of the orchid. With this vast scope of fresh energy, I wish to redefine the way we look at Latinas in music.”

Continue below for everything you need to know about Kali Uchis’ new album Orquídeas, including the release date, tracklist, and more.

Kali Uchis And Karol G’s Seductive ‘Labios Mordidos’ Video Involves Bikinis, An MMA Fight, And A Pool Party

Kali Uchis and Karol G told us this was coming, but it’s even better than we imagined. Last month, Uchis revealed the tracklist for her forthcoming album, Orquídeas, including “Labios Mordidos” featuring Karol G. At the 2023 Billboard Music Awards on November 19, Karol G performed a portion of the unreleased song, and earlier this week, Uchis confirmed its impending arrival.

This morning, November 24, “Labios Mordidos” is here in all its reggaeton glory. In the accompanying video, Karol G and Uchis pull up to a mansion in a chrome pink tour bus. They strut inside and lead a dance party, involving an indoor halfpipe and lots of bikinis. Around the one-minute mark, it cuts to Uchis singing in the middle of an octagon. She remains untouched and unfazed despite a full-blown MMA fight occurring around her.

The vibes are mellower out by the pool, where some women twerk and others splash in the pool. Uchis confidently delivers titillating lines like “Your girlfriend goes crazy when I arrive” and “Tonight, I’m a lesbian” (as translated from Spanish to English by Genius). By the end, Karol G and Uchis walk slowly away from a fiery explosion. Which, fitting.

“LABIOS MORDIDOS OUT NOW for your holidays ft @karolg,” Uchis captioned an Instagram video (roughly translated from Spanish to English). “thank you very much for being part of this project my beautiful queen and thank you to all the people that made this video possible with love and dedication.”

This January, Uchis shared her plan to release two albums — one primarily English and one primarily Spanish — in 2023. In early March, she dropped Red Moon In Venus, and she will hold up the second half of her promise on January 12, 2024 with the arrival of Orquídeas.

Kali Uchis Gladly Plays The Role Of The Villain On Her New Single, ‘Te Mata’

Kali Uchis continues to be a certified hitmaker — in both English and Spanish. Tonight (October 20), Uchis has shared “Te Mata,” the latest single from her upcoming Spanish album, Orquídeas.

“Te Mata” features Uchis finding happiness after a breakup — to the chagrin of her ex. Still, if this makes her the villain in his story, she will happily bear that title — even if it kills him.

The song is entirely sung in Spanish, with Uchis on the chorus doubling down on living for herself, and herself only.

“Well that’s already over, that’s not me anymore / I’m finally happy, my days are no longer gray / I finally realized that I deserve much more / and that kills you,” sings Uchis.

Orquídeas marks Uchis’ fourth studio album, and her second within the course of a year. It will arrive after a promise she made to fans, that she would release one English album and one Spanish album within this year-long timeframe. Earlier this year, she released Red Moon In Venus, which contained the hit single, “I Wish You Roses.”

“Te Mata” follows Uchis’ hit single, “Muñekita,” which features fellow Latin artist, El Alfa, as well as City Girls rapper JT.

Kali Uchis Will Start 2024 With Her New Spanish Album, ‘Orquídeas’

Earlier this year, Kali Uchis teased that she had two albums in the works — one in English, and one in Spanish. She dropped her English-language third studio album Red Moon In Venus this past February. This coming January, she will release her fourth studio album, the Spanish-language Orquídeas.

Uchis revealed the album’s title and cover art today, after previously releasing the single “Muñekita” featuring El Alfa and JT of City Girls back in August. As of now, this is the only song she has released from the album. However, she has been teasing new music via social media over the course of the past few days.

When making the album, Uchis was inspired by her Colombian roots and upbringing.

“The orchid is the national flower of Colombia, and we have more species of orchid than anywhere on earth,” Uchis said in a statement. “I always felt distinctly intrigued and magnetized by the flower. This album is inspired by the timeless, eerie, mystic, striking, graceful and sensual allure of the orchid. With this vast scope of fresh energy, I wish to re-define the way we look at Latinas in music.”
