If you’ve never heard of B5 before, they were a boy band-ish group signed to Bad Boy Records back in the early 2000s. As such, they were among the artists that could’ve benefitted from Diddy giving the label’s artists their publishing rights back. Not only did they say they never received a call for this, but people like Joe Budden roasted them for thinking that they could enjoy this opportunity. It’s unclear if the rapper and podcaster insinuated that Sean Combs simply won’t do it, or if they’re not worth giving money to at all. Regardless, it seems like group member Dustin Michael took it as the latter, as he had a scathing response to his comments.
Moreover, he released a video statement to the We In Miami podcast, on which their thoughts on Bad Boy’s publishing moves is what inspired Joe Budden’s comments in the first place (which is now one of his many feuds). Michael told him to “shut the f**k up” and accused him of not doing his proper research on the group’s financials. In addition, he said that the former Everyday Struggle host loves to talk about people who had the success that he never found. All in all, these two parties probably won’t see eye-to-eye on anything related to this, as they clearly have different priorities and perspectives.
However, Dustin Michael also tore into Joe Budden for his recent criticisms of Drake, which you’ve probably seen plastered all around media these days. This is another case that many interpreted as someone complaining about another’s success, although Drizzy’s response seemed equally bitter. Regardless of where you fall on that, a lot of this conflict is just the nature of commentary. Still, B5 and many others think that folks could be much more respectful and less extreme in their critiques.
Meanwhile, Dustin Michael and his group will likely develop themselves in other areas outside of the Bad Boy umbrella. A holiday-themed review of Drake’s For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition(otherwise known as Scary Hours 3): J. Cole and Rosalía are on Drake’s nice list, while Joe Budden and Pusha T remain on Drake’s naughty list. There’s a lot to unpack — too much, really — so we’re just going to focus on Budden, who slammed Drake for “rappin’ for the children” on For All The Dogs upon its October 6 release. Drake seemingly responded on the Scary Hours Edition track “Stories About My Brother,” rapping, “Imagine us gettin’ our validation from an ex-musician searchin’ for recognition.” But there’s a lot more — seriously, just an overwhelming amount — where that barbed bar came from.
Below is what you need to know from Budden and Drake’s timeline of beef and disses.
“Good Riddance”
2009: Multiple outlets, including HipHopDX, traced Budden and Drake’s connection to 2009 due to resurfaced video from the early days of Budden’s Joe Budden TV YouTube channel. In it, Drake says he is “honored to be around” Budden because he used to listen to him. However, there was a song called “Good Riddance” around the same time in which Drake rapped, “If I copy Budden’s flow, you mimickin’ his career / And the same money we hearin’ you giving to charity.” It’s not totally misguided to wonder whether that ancient bar is the root of Budden’s bitterness, considering Drake went from a self-proclaimed fan to mocking Budden’s career trajectory.
May 2016: During an episode of Budden’s since-renamed podcast I’ll Name This Podcast Later, Budden criticized Drake’s album, Views, by saying Drake sounded “real f*cking uninspired” (as relayed by Complex). To be fair, Budden acknowledged Drake’s rap (and pop culture) prowess, saying, “When he puts something out, you stop what you’re doing, right?”
“4PM In Calabasas”
June 2016: It is believed that Drake threw subliminal shade Budden’s way in his single “4PM In Calabasas,” though Drake never mentions Budden by name. In the 68th episode of Budden’s aforementioned podcast, he addressed Drake’s credibility as a songwriter and the perceived diss toward him in a 20-plus-minute segment annotated by Complex at the time.
Joe Budden Drops “Making A Murderer, Pt. 1” And “Afraid”
July 2016: Budden (again, seemingly but more or less definitely) referred to Drake as his child in “Making A Murderer, Pt. 1.” The song’s interlude is audio from the aforementioned video of their first meeting, during which Drake outed himself as a fan and gushed over Budden. Later in the song, Budden raps, “You made me proud, lad, but it seems my child mad / With all the clout that he grabbed, it’s still doubts from his dad.”
Drake then responded with “No Shopping,” leading to Budden’s “Afraid,” which samples Drake’s “The Resistance” and finds Budden going at Drake repeatedly throughout. Perhaps most notably: “Yeah, Aubrey, that’s the one we trusted / Not this new Aubrey with his stomach sculpted / I’m disgusted, you’re such a f*ckin’ incumbent / Can’t govern, trust in the public becoming a f*cking puppet.”
Um, Liposuction?
July 2016: So, about that “Aubrey with his stomach sculpted” line. After the song’s arrival, Budden doubled down, tweeting that Drake had gotten liposuction (twice) from the plastic surgeon, Dr. Michael “Dr. Miami” Salzhauer. Uproxx did the important follow-up investigative journalism of getting plastic surgeons’ opinions on whether Budden’s outrageous claim could be true.
Joe Budden On Hot Ones
Yep, still July 2016: Budden stopped by Hot Ones, where he addressed Drake fans who had recently appeared uninvited outside of his home.
April 2020: The beginning of 2020 threw many confounding things our way, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and a potential Budden-Drake resolution — which, to be clear, are equally confounding. Budden went live on Instagram, and Drake was active in the comments. Eventually, Drake joined Budden on the Live, and they had a friendly exchange. Budden joked that Drake was avoiding him, to which Drake said, “I never avoid you; we’re just never in the same place.”
Petty Drake Thrives In St. Tropez
July 2022: Take it or leave it: Drake posted a video to his Instagram Story from a restaurant in St. Tropez that was playing Budden’s “Pump It Up” (as relayed by XXL at the time). “Where else, Joey, would you have them going so crazy?” Drake is heard saying in the video. It goes without saying by now that it was in a mocking tone.
Joe Budden Slams For All The Dogs
October 2023: Skipping ahead to the present to preserve whatever is left of our collective sanity. Budden did not care for Drake’s For All The Dogs album. Right after Drake dropped it on October 6, Budden dedicated a portion of his podcast to torching it. DJ Akademiks posted a snippet on Instagram, where Drake left a lengthy comment that felt like it was a decade in the making.
This is what Drake wrote:

This guy is the poster child of frustration and surrendering. You retired and we never hung up your jersey we don’t even remember your number. We know you for doing this…you withdrew from rap not cause you accomplished all you need to it’s cause it wasn’t working for you. November 2023: This morning, November 17, Drake dropped “Stories About My Brother” as part of For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition. In it, he raps, “Imagine us gettin’ our validation from an ex-musician searchin’ for recognition.” Welp!
Drake is no stranger to shooting his shot with fellow celebs. Overnight he broke his very short hiatus from releasing new music with the new Scary Hours Edition of his recently released For All The Dogs. The project added an additional 6 songs which have multiple shots fired at people like Joe Budden and Pusha T between them. It also has a reference to Latin music superstar Rosalia, but in that case it’s a lot friendlier.
Among the new tracks there’s only one new feature. Drake teams up with J. Cole on the song “Evil Ways.” It’s on that track that Drizzy spits the bar “Next time I get in Rosalía face / I hope she tell her people that we need some space.” While he’s never collaborated with Rosalia, she does have a song with his frequent collaborator The Weeknd called “LA FAMA.” Earlier this year, Rosalia ended her engagement with fellow Latin music star Rauw Alejandro. Following the release of the new EP Drake and J. Cole announced extended dates on their joint tour. “It’s All A Blur Tour – Big As The What?” will extend into 2024 with the new dates in a variety of American cities. The original leg of the tour which saw Drizzy teaming up with 21 Savage ended last month with an explosive final show in Toronto.
Despite Drake claiming that he intended to take a break from releasing new music, it didn’t last long. Many fans cite his ongoing beef with Joe Budden as the reason why he returned so quickly. That Drake sure is a rascal. We all know that a new Drake project usually means a new collection of slights against his critics, enemies — real or imagined, and any number of former paramours who’ve wronged him in some way. His latest release, For All The Dogs: Scary Hours Edition, is no different, bringing with it a slew of disses for former flames and current nemeses.
So, who does Drake diss on Scary Hours 3?
Well, in the song “Stories About My Brother,” Drake certainly responds to Joe Budden‘s lukewarm reception of the original For All The Dogs. “Imagine us gettin’ our validation from an ex-musician searchin’ for recognition,” he raps, which is most probably a reference to Budden’s former career as a rapper. Budden has since turned to being a volatile podcast host, slinging hot takes in the hopes of viral fame (to his credit and the chagrin of Budden haters everywhere, it mostly works).
Then, on “Wick Man,” Drake quotes Pusha T‘s 2018 diss track “The Story Of Adidon,” which effectively turned the audience against him in their beef at the time, but hasn’t seemed to do much for his rival’s fortunes since. “Man, I remember n****s was jokin’ ’bout some tick, tick / And now that rapper broke as f*ck / That boy a statistic.”
So, Drake’s streak of petty posturing continues. Since it doesn’t look like he’ll actually be taking that break anytime soon after announcing an extended tour with J. Cole, perhaps his targets will take the opportunity to fire back.
In Thursday morning’s (November 16) trailer announcing what he then referred to as Scary Hours 3and has since released asFor All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition, Drake said, “I did those songs in the last five days. I didn’t have one bar written down for those songs on the night that For All The Dogsdropped.” With that timeline established, all evidence suggests that Drake dissed Joe Budden, who slammed For All The Dogsupon its October 6 arrival.
About 50 seconds into the Scary Hours Edition track “Stories About My Brother,” Drake raps, “Imagine us gettin’ our validation from an ex-musician searchin’ for recognition.”
Now, the backstory. Or, at least the latest chapter in the years-long Budden-Drake beef, which includes an accusation of liposuction in 2016 (as chronicled in full by Complex): Budden used an episode of The Joe Budden Podcast to roast Drake for “rappin’ for the children” with For All The Dogs. “Yo, dog, I had to look up how old this n**** was when I finished listening to the album,” he said (as per Billboard). “You are 36. Your birthday is in 20 days. I Googled that, too. You’re going to be 37 years old. Get the f*ck away from some of these younger n****s. And stop f*cking these 25-year-olds. […] I want to hear adult Drake rapping for adult people. […] He’s rapping for the kids, the streams, the accolades. He ain’t trying to rap for me. I accept that.”
Drake didn’t wait until “Stories About My Brother” to acknowledge Budden. He left a very long comment on DJ Akademiks’ Instagram clip of Budden’s podcast, as written below:

Drake’s upcoming EP Scary Hours 3, which drops tomorrow (Friday, November 17), has fans pretty excited. Even though he said that he’s taking a break from music after the release of For All The Dogs and his It’s All A Blur tour with 21 S*vage this year, it seems like this is potentially the last gas left in the tank for him in 2023. Of course, Drizzy could prove us wrong with some more drops or activity in the future, just as he did with his announcement of the Big As The What? tour with J. Cole. However, some fans believe that there’s a thorn in his side that is what actually compelled him to drop Scary Hours 3, and that’s Joe Budden.
Moreover, a lot of fans took to social media to “thank” the rapper for supposedly prompting Drake to put out more material. This is because Joe Budden’s criticism of For All The Dogs and its artist in general really rubbed the Toronto native the wrong way. Most likely, this idea centers around the OVO mogul wanting to prove the Slaughterhouse MC wrong with more solid bar-writing, straight-up hip-hop tracks, and probably a few subliminal or direct disses here and there. Other fans who subscribe to this theory, though, are just excited to see whether the former Everyday Struggle host rips into this project, too.
Of course, this is all purely speculative and probably just a meme or head-canon moment for most people. However, since Drake said that he wrote this material in a very raw way directly after For All The Dogs dropped, it’s clear that Joe Budden is a big story and moment in his recent life that will likely inform this collection of tracks. Even if this is just a joke or doesn’t turn out to be as obvious on Scary Hours 3, it’s going to be hard not to keep Budden in the back of your head while listening. Joe Budden is someone who comments on pretty much anything related to hip-hop and the culture at large. Overall, he has a massive platform with his podcast, so this should come as a surprise to absolutely no one. However, he has gotten into some feuds as a result of his comments. For instance, he recently got a DM from Drake after saying he didn’t like For All The Dogs. This proved to be a massive story, and fans were obviously very invested in how it would develop.
Since that time, Joe has been focused on other feuds. For instance, he had a run-in with the brother of Cesar Pina. He was also allegedly jumped which was another interesting tidbit of information. Needless to say, there is a lot of drama around Joe these days. Well, there might be more on the horizon as Drake is set to release Scary Hours3 tonight. In fact, he dropped a trailer for the project that has fans excited. As for Joe, however, he does not seem to be as amused about the situation.
In the tweet posted above, you can see Joe using the crying emoji. From there, a fan said that he didn’t want to hear Budden give the new project a review. Subsequently, Joe replied saying, “Not a peep.” Simply put, don’t expect Joe to comment on the EP. However, this could very well change if something drastic were to occur. For instance, if Drake hits Joe Budden with some bars, then we could definitely see Joe get in his bag.

Joe Budden has been in the news a lot over the past few days. Overall, a lot of it has to do with his proximity to the Cesar Pina case. Moreover, he recently got punched by a man claiming to be working for Taxstone. As you can imagine, everyone is talking about this, and people want to know exactly what went down. Budden has gotten into plenty of beef before, and many have gone viral. However, this latest incident has a lot of people talking and for very good reason.
Since the attack, Budden has clarified what went down. During a livestream with his Joe Budden Podcast co-host QueenzFlip, Budden revealed that he got socked in the face one time. Although it was a good one, Budden was able to get back up and he looks pretty good for someone who got punched so hard. However, in the clip below, Budden actually reveals the attire he was wearing during the attack. It is a pretty hilarious admission for numerous reasons. He was wearing Uggs, which aren’t known for being effective in combat.
Perhaps some Doc Martens would have been better suited for this endeavor. Although in the eyes of Joe Budden, the Uggs were actually more than sufficient. He noted that they are pretty good for fighting situations, even if they don’t appear to be. Perhaps one could even say that the Uggs were responsible for Joe making it out of the combat unscathed. If anything, the brand might just have to give Joe some sort of brand deal. After all, it would probably rake in a lot of cash for his podcast.

Moreover, his latest feud in the public eye connects with former rapper, popular media personality, and current convict Taxstone. Back during his appearance on Gillie and Wallo’s Million Dollaz Worth Of Game podcast, The Joe Budden Podcast‘s main host called him a “worker.” This was referring to the fact that he never gave him any game because he was working for people that actually ran things. Apparently, Tax didn’t take too kindly to this, and allegedly caused another one of the former Everyday Struggle host’s recent headlines.
If you didn’t already know, Joe Budden recently addressed a fight in which someone “socked” him, and told people that it’s no cause for dramatics. However, in a hilarious example of self-snitching, the man who claims to have punched him also suggested that Taxstone put out a hit on him. Furthermore, this theory stems from the supposed attacker’s recent Instagram post’s caption: “When a WORKER could get a BOSS touch that’s tough!” it reads. In addition, he also posted an additional message on his IG Story: “I BEAT ON HIM DOLO WE AINT JUMP HIM… FREE TAXSTONE.”
While this is purely speculative at the moment, Taxstone is not actually the only prime suspect here. There are plenty of other reasons in the media cycle as to why someone would want to hurt Joe Budden. For example, there’s his comments on the DJ Envy and Cesar Pina fraud scandal, which prompted the latter’s brother to pull up on him at a bar. While explaining this, the Slaughterhouse MC basically laughed off the prospect that any of these people pose a threat.
Meanwhile, it’s wild how he keeps up with all these narratives and beefs while still giving props to the industry. Budden recently praisedMegan Thee Stallion’s new single “Cobra,” and also came to the defense of the City Girls’ recent low album sales. For every bridge burned, it seems like he wants a new one to build in its place, which would be more commendable if not for the fact that he’s principally a commentator; in other words, it’s not that surprising. Megan Thee Stallion did not pull any punches on her first single of the year, “Cobra.” It is still at the top of the YouTube music trending list, with nearly 4.5 million views on the platform. She shed her past and let out everything that has been weighing on her mentally and emotionally. On top of that, the beat, which is Megan’s first-ever producing credit, is fantastic. The swirling synths and guitar samples added to the ambiance of the track. Furthermore, the visuals, while predictable, were still so well put together and highlighted the message of the song.
Needless to say, this was a far cry from her last big single, “Bongos,” with Cardi B. It went along with a similar formula that “WAP” did. Raunchy, unapologetic, and it takes itself maybe a little too seriously. One of the many people who maligned that track was Joe Budden. However, he had to eat his words after hearing “Cobra.”
AllHipHop found a clip on Twitter (X) from Joe Budden’s podcast. In the short clip, the host was stunned after listening to the single. To his credit, he did stand up and congratulate Megan for the work she put into it. He even went as far as to say that if people do not like they are just hating to hate. “Meg, yo! I ain’t gon’ lie to you. You absolutely went crazy on this.” He continues, “A n**** hate on this, he hatin’. If you don’t like this you hatin’.”
