Rick Ross Comments On Theory That Drake Owns His Rivals’ Publishing

Everyone is wondering why it seems like half the rap industry’s biggest stars are going against Drake right now in what might be the biggest hip-hop beef of the decade. It even pitted Rick Ross against his very frequent collaborator, and that’s been the most open and developed beef up until this point. As such, it’s no surprise that Rozay is commenting on a lot of things concerning this feud, including one viral fan theory as to why these tensions may exist from a financial and business standpoint. Moreover, the theory claims that the Toronto superstar actually owns a percentage of many of his opponent’s publishing rights to their music, meaning that they’re always making him money.

Basically, Twitter user @realalmightee took a cue from The Joe Budden Podcast, who theorized that Drake might own a portion of Gamma Music Company, gets splits from the camp’s signees, and might even get splits from Universal Music Group (UMG) artists. Rick Ross’ MMG is under Gamma, whereas Kendrick Lamar, NAV, The Weeknd, and Metro Boomin, are under different labels that all fall under UMG. As for other players in this civil war, A$AP Rocky is signed under the Sony umbrella, and so is Future. There are other rappers and WE DON’T (and STILL don’t) TRUST YOU collaborators to consider like Playboi Carti and Travis Scott, but they haven’t really done enough to imply that they legitimately “picked a side.”

Rick Ross Reacts To Theory About Drake’s Financial Kick-Back From His Opponents

Furthermore, the theory claims that Gamma’s owner Larry Jackson has a very strong business relationship with Drake, and wanted him to spearhead the curation and development of their talent. Some other Gamma artists, like Sexyy Red and French Montana (until recently) are big Drizzy teammates. Also, the Twitter thread above includes many of his lyrics alluding to owning part of other artists’ publishing. As for Aubrey’s $400 million plus deal with UMG, this included publishing according to Variety, and may include other aspects of artists’ catalogs, including that of Kendrick Lamar. @realalmightee finished his thread by clarifying that this is all speculation.

However, The Biggest Boss called cap on this outright. “BIG cap. Minion’s opinions,” he quote-tweeted the thread in question, and it looks like they’ll get right back to their back and forth very soon. What do you think about all this? Let us know in the comments and check back in with HNHH for the latest news and updates on Rick Ross and Drake.

Lil Rod Also Trying To Sue Diddy For Publishing On Top Of His Sexual Assault Claims

The lawsuits and accusations continue to pile up for Diddy as Lil Rod is one the more recent to speak up. Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones worked on The Love Album: Off The Grid which dropped back in September of 2023. It is one that Rod said he “took a year off” to work tirelessly on. However, even with all of the long nights and “not going to sleep until it’s done,” he was being paid “pennies.” Furthermore, he said that the contract he signed was “disgusting,” according to AllHipHop. So, with all of that, Lil Rod is also suing Diddy over publishing, on top of the wild sexual assault and harassment allegations.

However, for this to happen Lil Rod created a GoFundMe page to raise $50,000 to help with paying an attorney. In the post below from The Neighborhood Talk, they found a video of him and Diddy going back and forth about his publishing details. Lil Rod posted that video on his Instagram and Stevie J, who was a part of the Bad Boy’s production collective responded essentially calling him a liar.

Diddy’s legal team has the same opinion as Stevie J, saying, “We have overwhelming, indisputable proof that his claims are complete lies.” They also called him out for looking for an “undeserved payday” especially after the previous lawsuit is around $30 million. Additionally, spectators of these crazy claims are also a bit skeptical that Lil Rod is telling the truth. “Yea it’s giving money grab. It’s getting hard to believe ppl with such a serious accusation.” So much more is to come of this so stick with us for all of the latest updates.

What are your thoughts Lil Rod suing Diddy for publishing on top of the sexual assault allegations? Do you believe him or that he is trying to get a pay day? Who do you think will come out on top in this situation? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. Beyonce Called Out For Taking Publishing Rights From Songwriters By Tiffany Red

Fans of music are no strangers to hearing stories about shady dealings behind the scenes. A lot of the time that comes from artists themselves who reveal after the fact that they were locked into predatory record contracts. That also comes to light when there are public disputes between artists and labels. For much of 2023 pop singer Sky Ferreira made a public spat over her label refusing to release her new album for years. But now one of the biggest artists in all of music, Beyonce, is being accused of her own allegedly unfair behavior towards songwriters.

In a recently shared video, songwriter TIffany Red makes some allegations about the singer. She starts the clip off by complimenting Bey, describing her as the Michael Jackson of her generation. But that also means she could potentially have the power to change some of the mechanisms of the music industry. But she goes on to cite specific examples of songs from Beyonce’s album Renaissance. She claims that they had been written years before the album was assembled. Despite that she says that Bey got 25% of the publishing rights for the tracks. You can tell from her reaction alone that she thinks that number is drastically unfair, but not everyone in the comments agrees with her. Check out her video and some of the reactions to it below.

Beyonce Accused Of Taking Too Much In Publishing Rights

Some of the top comments on the post disagree with Red’s take. “If you don’t wanna give Beyoncé 25% of your publishing then don’t sell your song to beyonce. Go sell it to Lumidee. 🤷🏽‍♂️ beyonce isn’t forcing you to work with her. You want to write for beyonce because it’s BEYONCE and that is why she gets publishing,” the most liked response to her post reads.

What do you think of Beyonce taking a 25% cut of publishing rights for other songwriter’s songs? Do you think the number is too high and songwriters should be paid more? Let us know in the comment section below.

Dame Dash “Saved” Memphis Bleek, He Claims While Recalling Label Stories

The history of Roc-A-Fella is a long and complicated one, and it hasn’t gotten any easier to navigate as the years draw on. However, we have seen multiple of its key members- whether executives or artists- reflect on some alleged misconceptions on its downfall. That’s not where Dame Dash began his recent breakdown of it, though: he started off on a new episode of The CEO Show by talking about Roc member Memphis Bleek’s career. It started off as an assessment of the rapper’s relevance today, then went into the gossip around all the members’ fallings-out, and then moved to the executive’s claim that he “saved” Bleek from robbery.

“No disrespect to Bleek,” Dame Dash began his statement. “But I don’t feel like he would not want to still be making current records and making a lot of money doing new records. You know, I didn’t want him to be– no disrespect, but no one wants to be on the ‘Oldies but Goodies Tour.’ You want to be known for new s**t.” Then, he started to push back on Memphis Bleek’s explanation of how the Roc fell.

Dame Dash Addresses Memphis Bleek’s Tale Of The Roc’s Downfall: Watch

“The misconception about Roc-A-Fella is they kicked me out; I left,” Dame Dash claimed. “When ‘Change Clothes’ came out, I had already had an office at Rocawear. I was already done, I didn’t wanna run Roc-A-Fella no more, I still don’t wanna run a music [company]. I had retired from Roc-A-Fella long before this so called split.” Furthermore, he used Memphis Bleek as an example of him pushing the Roc’s affiliates to take care of themselves, not their higher-ups.

“People close to him were taking his publishing,” he went on. “When he was signing his record deal, someone had his– he was signed to a production deal. And, I’m not going to say nobody’s name. I’ll let them deal with that. He talks about it. All his publishing was getting taken. They were getting a piece of his royalty. He was getting robbed. So, I went and got him a lawyer. I went and got him a real accountant and it really caused a lot of friction internally.” For more news and the latest updates on Dame Dash and Memphis Bleek, come back to HNHH.

Joe Budden’s Roast Of B5 Gets Response From Group Member Dustin Michael

If you’ve never heard of B5 before, they were a boy band-ish group signed to Bad Boy Records back in the early 2000s. As such, they were among the artists that could’ve benefitted from Diddy giving the label’s artists their publishing rights back. Not only did they say they never received a call for this, but people like Joe Budden roasted them for thinking that they could enjoy this opportunity. It’s unclear if the rapper and podcaster insinuated that Sean Combs simply won’t do it, or if they’re not worth giving money to at all. Regardless, it seems like group member Dustin Michael took it as the latter, as he had a scathing response to his comments.

Moreover, he released a video statement to the We In Miami podcast, on which their thoughts on Bad Boy’s publishing moves is what inspired Joe Budden’s comments in the first place (which is now one of his many feuds). Michael told him to “shut the f**k up” and accused him of not doing his proper research on the group’s financials. In addition, he said that the former Everyday Struggle host loves to talk about people who had the success that he never found. All in all, these two parties probably won’t see eye-to-eye on anything related to this, as they clearly have different priorities and perspectives.

Dustin Michael Of B5 Claps Back At Joe Budden: Watch

However, Dustin Michael also tore into Joe Budden for his recent criticisms of Drake, which you’ve probably seen plastered all around media these days. This is another case that many interpreted as someone complaining about another’s success, although Drizzy’s response seemed equally bitter. Regardless of where you fall on that, a lot of this conflict is just the nature of commentary. Still, B5 and many others think that folks could be much more respectful and less extreme in their critiques.

Meanwhile, Dustin Michael and his group will likely develop themselves in other areas outside of the Bad Boy umbrella. Joe will keep his media endeavors going, and perhaps they can see that a sit-down conversation might inspire a lot of engagement. If they can hash things out, maybe there’s a lesson to learn here. On that note, stay posted on HNHH for the latest news and updates on Joe Budden and B5.

Diddy Makes Artists Follow Strict Set Of Rules To Get Publishing Rights Back, Aubrey O’Day Alleges

Recently, Diddy’s started to reassign publishing rights back to some Bad Boy artists. Artists like Biggie, Ma$e, The LOX, and more are all in the process of getting their rights back. During an interview with The Breakfast Club recently, he claimed that his decision came after some internal reflection. He also says it was sparked by his own criticism of the Grammys.

“Once you start asking for change in this world,” he explained. “You have to look within and be a part of that change.” Diddy continued, also adding that reassigning the publishing rights was part of his own personal evolution. “This actually was done two years ago,” he described. “It was more of me just evolving as a businessman, you know, a person that really wants change in the world. Though Diddy claims that he’s trying to do right by artists by giving them back their publishing rights, Aubrey O’Day appears to think otherwise.

Aubrey O’Day Speaks On Diddy Giving Publishing Right Back To Bad Boy Artists

During her recent appearance on the Only Stans podcast, O’Day detailed the deal some of his artists were offered. According to the Danity Kane performer, the deal she was offered a few months back would only allow her to see the money that came after Sony purchased their catalog. “So streaming, for the past couple years,” she explained. “It’s about $800-$900.

She went on to list some rules the artists must allegedly follow in order to get their rights back. “I have to release him for any claims or wrongdoings or actions prior to the date of the release,” she described. “I have to sign an NDA that I will never disparage Puff, Bad Boy, Janice Combs or Justin Combs’ music, or EMI, or Sony ever in public.” Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates on Diddy.

Metro Boomin Sells Portion Of Publishing In $70M Deal: Report

Metro Boomin’s catalog is no joke. If any producer of this era were to go hit-for-hit with him in the Verzuz arena, they certainly would need to bring their A-game. Over the past decade, Metro Boomin has been one of hip-hop’s most trusted producers. From his days of working with Future as a budding producer, he became the go-to guy for hot sounds. Artists like Nicki Minaj and Drake have called on him for their projects, but that’s really the tip of the iceberg when it comes to his discography.

Metro played a massive role in the rise in trap in the past decade and defining the Atlanta sound, thanks to his numerous collaborations with Future and Young Thug. This ultimately led to contributions on Kanye West’s The Life Of Pablo (Father Stretch My Hands) and The Weeknd’s “Heartless” off of After Hours, among many other records. On top of that, he delivered two chart-topping solo albums, Not All Heroes Wear Capes and November’s Heroes & Villains, which will certainly be regarded as classics when all is said and done.

There’s been a major discourse in recent years surrounding owning publishing. Though many artists are quick to sell off that aspect when inking a contract, those who keep it tend to reap the rewards down the line. Metro Boomin, for example, just scored a cool $70M for a portion of his catalog, according to Billboard. The St. Louis producer struck a deal with Shamrock Capital, who famously bought Taylor Swift’s Big Machine catalog from Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings in 2020.

At this point, there’s little information regarding the details of the sale or the records included in the deal. But for $70M, we suspect that there might be some of Metro’s biggest hits as part of the agreement. However, Shamrock previously stated that they raised $600M in funding to acquire the rights to TV shows, video games, music, film, and sports. Prior to their deal with Metro, Dr. Dre sold his music assets to Shamrock and UMG in a $200M acquisition. We’ll keep you posted on anymore updates surrounding Metro’s deal.
