Why Did Method Man Say He’ll ‘Never’ Perform At Hot 97’s Summer Jam Again?

Method Man had a busy weekend for himself to kick off June. With Redman by his side, the duo had a pair of performances this past weekend with the first being at The Roots Picnic in Philadelphia and the second being at Hot97’s Summer Jam in Long Island, New York. The former seemed to go without issue, but the latter left Method Man with a sour taste in his mouth. Hours after completing the Summer Jam performance, Method took to Instagram to say that he will “never” perform at the festival again.

Method Man Summer Jam 2024 Critique

“Not our crowd at all,” he wrote after the performance at UBS Arena. “Thanks again, New York and the whole tri-state (that showed up to the event) plus Pete and Ebro. I got love for you guys. But never again.. at this point the generation gap is just too wide for me. #nevercomingback.”

Method Man and Redman appeared on the Summer Jam lineup alongside Doja Cat, Sexyy Red, Offset, Sleepy Hallow, 41 (Kyle Richh, Jenn Carter, Tata), and Tee Grizzley who are all artists that entered the hip-hop game at least two decades after Method Man’s peak in it. So, in his defense, his gripe with the “generational gap” at the festival is absolutely warranted. This gap was presumably not felt at The Roots Picnic where artists from all decade, past and present, were included in the lineup.

Peter Rosenberg Wants Sheff G & Sleepy Hallow Pulled From Summer Jam Lineup Over Donald Trump Endorsement

Recently, Donald Trump held a presidential rally in NYC, where he was joined onstage by Brooklyn-based rappers Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow. Sheff G had nothing but nice things to say about the former U.S. President. “One thing I wanna say,” he began. “They always gonna whisper your accomplishments and shout your failures. Trump gonna shout the wins for all of us.” Sleepy Hallow didn’t say much as he stood nearby, though he did approach the microphone briefly to say “Make America great again.”

The unexpected collab left many fans confused, and some angry. Peter Rosenberg, for example, recently shared his take on the endorsement on Ebro in the Morning. According to him, they should be pulled from Hot 97’s Summer Jam lineup because of it. He didn’t hesitate to channel his inner “Karen” and tell his higher-ups that, either.

Peter Rosenberg Slams Sheff G & Sleepy Hallow For Donald Trump Rally

In a clip from the episode, Rosenberg explains that the rally appeared to be a “big joke” to Sleepy Hallow, who he claims “laughed through” his entire endorsement. Regardless, he’s not giving him a pass. In fact, that made it somewhat worse in his eyes, as he suggests it indicates he’s not taking the issue seriously. “He could barely hold himself together from laughing,” he said. “What kind of endorsement is that?”

Rosenberg went on to claim that he’s asked a journalist friend of his to dig into why and how the appearance came about in the first place. What do you think of Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow speaking at Donald Trump’s presidential rally in NYC? What about Peter Rosenberg claiming they should be pulled from the Hot 97 Summer Jam lineup because of it? Do you agree with him or not? Doja Cat, Offset, Sexyy Red, And Davido Will Headline Summer Jam 2024

As if this summer’s music festival season wasn’t already stacked enough, Hot 97’s Summer Jam lineup has been announced.

The staple hip-hop festival will be held on June 2 at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. This year’s official headliners include Doja Cat, Offset, Sexyy Red, and Davido. But it doesn’t stop there: Method Man and Redman, Tee Grizzley, Sleepy Hallow, and 41 (consisting of Kyle Richh, Jenn Carter, and Tata) are also slated to deliver bookend sets, according to the event’s flyer.

Offset has performed several times at Hot 97’s Summer Jam festival as a member of Migos (most notably 2019 and 2021). However, in June, this will be the “Worth It” rapper’s first time gracing the stage as a soloist. When asked about the possibility of bringing out special guests, he played coy. “I might do my Summer Jam set with just me,” he said. “‘Cause I deserve that.”

But he did reveal that his set will include several elements from his debut solo headline tour’s production and possibly even a moon walk tribute to the late Michael Jackson.

Although a pre-sale date hasn’t been revealed, the station has hinted that one will be. To gain access to the pre-sale, you must sign up for the station’s Insiders List email list. The general on-sale date for Hot 97’s Summer Jam 2024 is Friday, March 22, at 10 a.m. local time. Find more information here.

Lil Tjay Was Reportedly Restrained By Security At Hot 97 Summer Jam After He Tried To Fight Backstage

While hometown festivals can constitute a great opportunity for artists to connect with some of their earliest supporters, they can also be a lightning rod for backstage shenanigans. The latest example comes from Hot 97 Summer Jam, where a video has surfaced of Bronx native Lil Tjay being restrained by security guards as he apparently tries to attack someone during an altercation backstage.

Tjay, who is only a year removed from a life-threatening situation in which he was shot multiple times during a robbery attempt in nearby New Jersey, is riled up in the video, struggling to get free and repeatedly warning the guards, “You gonna be fired.” While it’s not clear he has the pull to make that happen — at least in regard to the guards he doesn’t directly employ — according to the person filming, he’s attempting to retaliate after the altercation was instigated by the other party. “N**** popped on Lil Tjay, bro,” he says.

Not to be a killjoy or anything, but it’s probably better that Tjay didn’t get to escalate the conflict. After all, we’ve seen far too many times how these things can go bad in a hurry, and he’s already on his second life. Not for nothing, Tjay’s also been involved in too many run-ins with the law recently; as recently as January, he had no fewer than two arrests for firearm possession. Let’s all hope he can stay out of trouble for the foreseeable future and enjoy the life he very nearly lost less than a year ago.

Lil Tjay Seemingly Involved In Backstage Beef At Hot 97 Summer Jam: Video

Lil Tjay listeners have been happy to see the New York native back in action over the past few months. He previously took time off to recover from his traumatizing shooting incident. The young star’s most recent performance took place in his home state on Sunday (June 4). He joined the impressive roster of artists entertaining the crowd at Hot 97 Summer Jam. Not only did Tjay pull out some of the biggest hits from his own discography, but he also brought out Ice Spice to show the world their “Gangsta Boo” collaboration for the first time live.

The Bronx-born lyricist’s set went incredibly well, but as HipHopDX reports, he appears to have run into some trouble backstage. In a video posted to TikTok by @lilmacc_, Tjay is seen being held back by a full team of security while yelling at someone on the other end of the hallway. “You’re gonna be fired!” he shouts multiple times while fighting to break free from the guards.

Lil Tjay Wants Someone Fired ASAP

It’s unclear at this time exactly who or want warranted such a reaction from the 22-year-old. Nevertheless, he appeared ready to get physical should his team not have intervened. From behind the camera, the person recording can be heard saying “N*gga popped on Lil Tjay, bro.” Thankfully nothing serious seems to have come from the altercation, which means DaBaby’s backstage run-in with a fan tops this year’s list of wildest Summer Jam moments.

Following his own performance at the festival, the “BABYSITTER” hitmaker was approached by a female fan who offered to perform oral sex on him in front of the crowd surrounding them. While he seemed to momentarily consider the offer, reaching his hand down his pants, Jonathan Kirk ultimately declined and briskly walked away with his security. Afterward, the rejected patron didn’t hesitate to lash out at DaBaby on Instagram. Read more about that at the link below, and check back later for more hip-hop/pop culture news updates.

Ice Spice Catches Heat For “Lip Syncing” At Hot 97 Summer Jam

Ice Spice has quickly become one of the most talked about rappers around. But after a performance at the always high-profile Hot 97 Summer Jam, talk is exactly what people did. One thing fans were talking about were the various artists Ice Spice brought out with her during the course of her performance. Kali, Flo Milli, and Lil Tjay who already has a song with the breakout star all joined her on stage during her performance. But after a tweet containing a video of her performance also accused her of lip-syncing fans’ got fans’ attention.

The tweet reads, “So my boy sends me a clip of Ice Spice performing at Hot 97 Summer Jam. I see her & her mouth moving but only heard her record.” The post came with a video attached that sees the rapper doing what looks like a lip-synced performance of her hit song “Princess Diana.” While the post isn’t particularly viral, fans who did see it expressed similar disappointment in her alleged choice to forego performing live. “My one question is where is the performance at??? Much love and respect to her come up and the X but am I lying??? or bugging???,” the tweet concludes.

Ice Spice’s Supposed Lip-Sync

Ice Spice was also subject to another controversy resulting from Summer Jam over the weekend. During Cardi B’s set, she used imagery that some fans interpreted as a direct diss of Ice Spice causing Cardi to have to clarify later that there are no hard feelings. The weekend provided two more headline-grabbing stories for an artist whose public fascination has been at an all-time high in 2023.

Within just the past few weeks Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj’s collaboration “Princess Diana” was remixed by Skrillex during a festival set. She also joined Taylor Swift for a remix of her song “Karma” which shot up the charts as a result of their team-up. Spice has also promised fans that a deluxe version of her “Like..?” EP would be dropping this summer. Though the lip-syncing allegations aren’t likely to affect the trajectory of Ice Spice’s career much they are proof that people are paying pretty close attention to the star. Let us know what you think of Ice Spice’s supposed lip-syncing in the comments below.

Coi Leray Twerks In The Splits During Summer Jam Performance Before Turning Up In NYC

The drop date for Coi Leray’s sophomore album is nearing closer and closer, and the “TWINNEM” hitmaker’s excitement is obviously growing. She’s had an impressive rollout so far (though the tracklist has left some fans a bit confused), and it’s only getting better as June 23rd approaches. Most recently, the 26-year-old performed in New York on Sunday (June 4), not only giving the crowd big energy while pulling out some of her biggest hits but also showing off some seriously sweet dance moves.

From kung-fu skills to twerking her petite booty in black sweatpants, Leray made it clear she’s been putting in work at the studio. Her backup dancers perfectly kept up with the Massachusets native during her lively set at Hot 97 Summer Jam, causing the crowd to overwhelm them with applause. The multi-talent has since shared a short and sweet recap video on Instagram, captioning it “CoiJAM 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑 @hot97 thank you NY 🗽shout out to @biggtrendsetters !!! @jasnationn you held the team tfff down!!!! I love you!!! 🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑🆑.”

Coi Leray Shows Off Serious Moves at Hot 97 Summer Jam

Earlier today, Leray also gave us a look into her rowdy, post-performance night out on the town, which included plenty of liquor and salacious dancing. In one clip, she and a female friend get up close and personal on the dance floor, and in another, we see how far gone the rising star was by the end of her celebratory night.

She’s already given us singles like “Bops,” “My Body,” and “Players” this year, and we’ve heard a preview of “Make My Day” with David Guetta as well. The latter earned Coi backlash last month for sampling “Pump Up The Jam,” but she seems unbothered by what critics have to say.

Ice Spice Brings Out Flo Milli At Hot 97 Summer Jam, Twitter Questions Why It Wasn’t Other Way Around

On Sunday (June 4), New York’s annual Hot 97 Summer Jam festival lit up the city again, with locals like Ice Spice and Cardi B showing out. Others on the 2023 lineup include French Montana, Fivio Foreign, Lola Brooke, and Lil Tjay – not to mention the special guests brought out by headliners. While Bardi tapped Latto to join her for a performance of their new “Put It On Da Floor Again” collaboration, Isis Gaston recruited Flo Milli, who she has yet to collaborate with, for some on-stage fun.

Spice’s lengthy red hair was styled in mermaid waves for the show, and her booty made several cheeky appearances beneath her plaid mini skirt. After the concert she shared a photo dump on Instagram, giving a closer look at her outfit, consisting of fishnet tights, a cropped Supreme polo shirt, and her signature chain. In the comment section, Milli dropped by to write “Goated! 😍,” proving that despite the discourse flowing on social media right now, there’s no drama between the two.

Ice Spice Takes Hot 97 Summer Jam

After seeing videos of the “Pussycat Doll” hitmaker’s surprise appearance at Summer Jam, several Twitter users have expressed their opinion that Milli “ate Ice Spice up” with her vivacious energy. “Do y’all peep the difference in stage presence… Flo Milli should be in Ice Spice’s position. This is crazy,” one person wrote.

On the other hand, some feel as though the southern starlet’s fans should do less comparing (as Milli herself has previously requested) to other rap divas and more streaming of their favourite’s music. “If all the people that complained about Flo Milli not being as big as Ice Spice actually streamed her music… Maybe, just maybe,” someone in that camp quipped.

Fans Are Convinced Cardi B Dissed Ice Spice At Hot 97 Summer Jam But Cardi Thinks They’re Being ‘Messy’

Here we go again. Cardi B has spoken before about how much she dislikes being pitted against “every new female rapper” but that won’t stop fans from looking for signs of friction every chance they get. The latest opportunity came with Cardi’s set at Hot 97 Summer Jam this weekend, where one of Cardi’s background graphics caught fans’ attention and has them thinking that Cardi’s latest target is “Boy’s A Liar” rapper Ice Spice.

During Cardi’s set, she set up her performance of “Tomorrow 2” with a clip from Annie while an illustrated caricature of the red-headed orphan appeared on the screen behind her. Fans seeing this image online decided that this was somehow a reference to Ice Spice because the rapper’s look — which usually consists of bright orange curls styled into an afro — has become so iconic in such a short amount of time. This led to an avalanche of tweets accusing Cardi of spoofing Ice Spice’s look — although, inarguably, Annie did it first.

Of course, it should be noted that the fans driving this particular narrative seemingly all come from a specific fan base (rhymes with “carbs”), while others — including, apparently, the person who created the graphic in the first place, called it out as ridiculous. A video of Cardi defending Ice Spice recently also surfaced as evidence she wouldn’t feel the need to shade the new rap it-girl, even though she recently collaborated with Cardi’s ostensible rival.

Incidentally, Cardi’s verse on “Tomorrow 2” contains a nod to Ice Spice’s breakout hit “Munch,” which Cardi also considered remixing, although she decided later not to put the song out. But Cardi herself went on Instagram Live shortly after her performance to lay the speculation to rest. “Cut the bullsh*t, please,” she said. “Get the mop. Y’all being too messy and y’all being annoying.”

Cardi B is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Cardi B Announces as Headliner for Hot 97 Summer Jam 2023

Every year, Hot 97 does it big by throwing the biggest Summer Jam concert possible. Every year, they reel in the who’s who of the rap game. But this year serves as Hip-Hop’s 50th year anniversary, and the lineup is undoubtedly one for the books.

Announced today, this year’s Summer Jam will take place on June 4th at UBS Arena, with Cardi B as the headliner. With Cardi B being from the Bronx and Hot 97’s roots being in New York, it’s only right that the “Bodak Yellow” closes the show.

Fans that attended last year’s show at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey can be thrilled to know that weather will no longer be a factor. With Summer Jam going on their 29th year, the venue change to the beautiful UBS Arena in Long Island will definitely have concert-goers looking forward to the upgrade.

Besides Cardi B, other superstars performing include Ice Spice, Coi Leray, GloRilla, Lola Brooke, French Montana, Fivio Foreign, Lil TJay, and even a special set celebrating 50 Years of Hip Hop with The LOX.

During an interview with Ebro In The Morning today, Lola Brooke expresses her excitement. “This means everything to me,” Lola states. “This is a New York City artist’s dream. It’s so crazy because the first time I ever been to Summer Jam, I said I wasn’t coming back until I was on stage and I never came back.”

She added, “Since 2012, I never came back. It was hard though, I made it work.”

Lola Brooke isn’t the only artist who will be taking the Summer Jam stage for the first time, joining Ice Spice, Coi Leray, GloRilla, and Lil Tjay.

Tickets go on sale this Saturday, April 8th at 10am EST on Ticketmaster.
